Read the press statement below…
The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party says the appointment of the former State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi as the Minister of Transportation will not make any meaningful impact to the Rivers people because he is a misfit. Bro Felix Obuah, the State chairman of the party said this through a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam while reacting to the official swearing in of the new Ministers and asg of portfolios to them.
According to the State PDP boss, a ministerial slot for Rivers State given to Amaechi is a loss to the State because he (Amaechi) is at war with the State and does not believe in the development vision of the State Governor, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike. His appointment has put a question mark on the Buhari’s war against corruption and has given Nigerians a clear picture that Buhari’s war against corruption is targeted at perceived political enemies and opponents.

Amaechi, the State PDP boss noted, has demonstrated in his actions and conduct not to or appreciate any development plan that does not have his endorsement or that of his acolytes which is not good for any group of people that desire progress. “Rivers State has an appreciable number of qualified, prudent and humble sons and daughters with burning desire to move the State forward and help promote the existing peace and love among the people which Gov Wike has graciously put in place in only five months in office.

We’ll therefore be happy to have the federal government or any other agency that means well for the State to always pick from this pool of resourceful and more enterprising human capital other than those with penchant for misleading, mishandling and mismanaging the scare resources of the State as exemplified by the Amaechi istration”, Bro Obuah advised.

It would be recalled that despite the stiff opposition to the nomination of former Gov Chibuike Amaechi as a Ministerial nominee by both Rivers people and Nigerians, President Buhari still went ahead to ratify his nomination by appointing him the Minister of Transportation.

To their disapproval of Amaechi’s appointment, all PDP Senators walked out of the National Assembly for allowing the APC ’ insistence on Amaechi’s confirmation which the PDP described as official institutionalization of corruption in Nigeria. Majority of Nigerians also have in one voice kicked against Amaechi’s nomination and appointment as Minister of Transportation.

Signed: Jerry Needam,
JP Special Adviser on Media and Publicity To the Rivers PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah

The premiere of the much talked about movie, Taxi Driver (Oko Ashewo) held over the weekend at FilmHouse Cinema Apapa. The movie which stars Femi Jacobs, Saka, Odunlade Adekola, Ijeoma Grace Agu and others has been generating a lot of excitement because it’s the first time the three will be acting together in a movie in a predominantly English language movie. Besides, Odunlade who has become the king of mass market will be making cinema debut in cinemas for the first time. It remain to be seen whether he can translate the mass market appeal to the cinema.

Taxi Driver (Oko Ashewo) tells the story of how Adigun copes with dealing with the multitude of odd characters he comes across working at night from Delia the queen prostitute, to Kakanfo the unseen vigilante, the notorious assassins ‘three wise men’, to the Godfather, Baba Mistura and many more interesting characters that ply their trade in Lagos at night.

A strong contender as one of the most beautifully shot film ever, to have come out of Nigeria. This dark comedy story brings a rich mixed bag of emotions from love to greed to betrayal, shenanigans, contradictions and self-discovery.
The movie directed by Daniel Emeke Oriahi will be in cinema across Nigeria from Friday, November 13.
Speaking on the movie, Dom Omope, the in-house producer at FilmOne said, Taxi Driver (Oko Ashewo) is the last of three films I have produced this year as head of film production at filmOne and it’s by far my most ambitious of all.
Taxi Driver (Oko Ashewo) presented us with a great and refreshing opportunity to create something visually stunning and standout in Nollywood.
We are really excited about this moment in Nollywood’s history where FilmOne is at the fore- front of the creation of cinema films to add more richness and diversity to the industry.
The movie which will be in cinemas across Nigeria from this Friday, November 13 will see the iconic 1980s Peugeot 504 Lagos Taxi with a miniature ‘eyo masquerade’ mounted on the bonnet touring the cinemas with some of the leading actors.
The movie which has been described as a good mixed of talent and ambition by movie critics is expected to be a big box office hit.

Sepp Blatter, the suspended president of soccer’s world governing body FIFA, is spending the week in a Swiss hospital following a stress-related incident, according to his personal spokesman Klaus Stohlker. Blatter, 79, had originally undergone tests and planned to stay home, but his doctors elected to keep him under observation in hospital over the weekend, said the spokesman.

Stohlker added that Blatter, who is serving a 90-day suspension imposed by FIFA’s disciplinary body in October, is doing well and “fully working on his fight against the ethics committee.

In a statement relayed by Stohlker on Wednesday, Blatter said: “I’m the elected president of FIFA, elected by the FIFA Congress and its 209 , and no committee can replace me.” Blatter, who has denied any wrongdoing, is accused of making a “disloyal payment” of 2 million Swiss francs ($1.99 million) to Michel Platini, who is currently suspended from his role as head of European soccer, in 2011, and cutting a television rights deal that was detrimental to FIFA.

Nigeria U17 team coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has been relishing the feat of successfully defending the U17 World Cup title following his team’s early Monday morning victory over Mali in the final of the 16th FIFA U17 World Cup, Chile 2015..

Amuneke reiterates that it’s a dream come true, for his lads, and he is absolutely happy to have nurtured them up to achieve the historic goal for Nigeria.

“It was a beautiful and entertaining match. I think the people in the stadium enjoyed it today. We knew that Mali are technically very strong, have great individual players and are very fast,” Fifa.com quotes Amuneke, a former Nigeria international as saying about the explosive match with African champions Mali.

“We wanted to make no mistakes but we lost the ball many times in the midfield in the first half. But I don’t want to complain because they are all kids. We changed some things in the second half and made some substitutes. That brought us more safety in our game.

“We are thankful for everything. We wanted to bring the players to their dreams and we did it. Thanks for the . We feel like we are at home. We have worked very hard for this success and we hope to continue.

“The players will go home now but their journey is not over yet. Personally, I’m really happy. I have football in my blood, as a player and as a coach. This is what I want to to my players.“

Mali coach, Baye its that his team lost the U17 World Cup title to the Nigerians who were more organised on the night.

“It was a tough match. Nigeria was well-placed and we often acted very unorganised. We didn’t pay attention twice and conceded two goals. It is how it is,” a disconsolate Ba remarks.

“One team wins because the other team makes mistakes. It is the first time Mali reached the final. If you believe that you can win a game, then you are sad when you lose. Nevertheless we can be very proud.

“Not many teams reach the second place. Our goal is to have a senior team who can win. We will continue our work. Everything is installed in our youth programs so that we will reach another final in the future.“

Nigeria won the FIFA U17 World Cup title in Chile early Monday morning.

The victory ensured the Eaglets retained the title they won in 2013 and it was the 5th U17 World Cup title for Nigeria. The feat was achieved against a resolute Mali side who were playing for the first time in the final of the cadet World Cup. Completesportsnigeria.com‘s Izuchukwu Okosi rates the performances of the Nigerian young heroes in the 2-0 win against Mali.

AKPAN UDOH:
The keeper had an anxious start to the game. He had to make a quick dash to defend a goal-bound effort at the edge of the box when his defenders deserted him. Luckily the ball was deflected for corner. Udoh made outstanding saves throughout the game and had good distribution rate. 8/10.

JOHN LAZARUS:
The right back was at his brilliant best again, defending at the back and ing the attacking moves made by the team. Sometimes in the game though, his going forward was a source of concern. But overall he had a good game. 7/10.

UDOCHUKWU ANUMUDU:
The left back played superbly and displayed intelligence in timing his tackles, when to go forward and when to stay put at the rear. His thunderous shots was also part of his game on the night. 7/10.

EJIKE IKWU:
The left-footed central defender who plays on the left side at the back, made a world class defensive tackle in the first half and also made some timely clearances. 7/10.

LUKMAN ZAKARI:
The central defender may not be the most fashionable defender, but he does his job diligently. The defender took no prisoners and was willing to help out the often overlapping John Lazarus. 6/10.

DAVID ENOGELA:
The defensive midfielder received a yellow card from English Premier League referee Michael Oliver after committing his third foul in the final. Enogela had a good tournament but the final was apparently not his best game in seven games. 6/10.

KELECHI NWAKALI:
The captain of the team who was adjudged the Most Valueable Player of the tournament, was inspirational as usual. The deep-lying playmaker was seen at both ends of the field with his attacking and defensive duties. 8/10.

OSINACHI EBERE:
Ebere was at the end of some counter-attacking moves by the Golden Eaglets. He was also tracking back to help defend. He however lost the penalty kick and the ensuing rebound. 7/10.

FUNSHO BAMBOYE:
Recalled to the starting line-up after missing the semi-final through suspension, the pacey forward scored Nigeria’s second goal of the night after receiving a from Samuel Chukwueze before rifling to the left top corner.
His pace and strength were threats to the equally powerful Malians. 7/10.

SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE:
The skilful forward assisted Nigeria’s second goal of the night converted by Bamgboye. Chukwueze’s incisive es were on display in the final though he did give away a couple of them and had to be hurled off in the second half of the game. 7/10.

VICTOR OSIMHEN:
Top scorer of the World Cup with 10 goals, Victor Osimhen who was also declared the second most valueable player of the World Cup scored the Eaglets’ first goal of the night when he belted his left footed shot beyond Samuel Diarra in goal for Mali. 8/10.

SUBS:
Chinedu Madueke:
Madueke came off the bench to contribute his quota to the team’s win on Sunday night/ Monday morning. The attacking midfield player assisted Nigeria’s first scored by Victor Osimhen at the edge of the Malian box after making a run from the right side of attack. 6.5/10.

Sunday Alimi:
Sunday Alimi also came off the bench in the second half and helped defend in numbers as the Malians laboured all night for a comeback. 6/10.

Orji Okonkwo:
The forward came off the bench but unlike his wonderful performance in the semi-finals when he scored an unstoppable thunderbolt, he had less impact to make in the final because his team-mates were up to their races. The resourceful player was made to defend too as the Eaglets defended their lead. 6/10

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode today lamented on the state of insecurity in the state, stressing that Lagos with a population of 20 million people has only 33,000 policemen to cater to the security needs of the state. While speaking at the close of the state governments retreat for the newly appointed of the state executive council Governor Ambode, revealed that more money have been put into ensuring better policing in Lagos and asked the state police commissioner and his men to justify the additional funds allocated to security
“We’re not yet where we want to be. We have only just 33, 000 policemen in Lagos for a population of over 20million. Again, we don’t have control over these police officers.
We need to let the Commissioner of Police leave this retreat believing that the Police need to own their own business just the way we have told ourselves that we want to own the business of governance. We need to see some things change, there has to be some form of paradigm shift, we want to see our police officers patrol in convoy between 12 midnight and 4am. There should be presence; we want to show presence, security agencies must also show presence. We need to enforce, we want to see patrol vehicle moving, we don’t want to see stationery police men, they don’t have to stay in the vehicle, we want to see something different from what it used to be in the past. It’s still the same style, but people must see improvement on it. That’s why we on our own part, we have gone out of our budget limits, using our resources from the Security Trust Fund, to say that, yes, it might not be within our budget, but we would spend money to the Police because if the state is safe, the economy will thrive”, he said.
