The President of the Houdegbe North American University in the Republic of Benin, Prof. Dada Houdegbe, on Saturday announced that about 90 per cent of its students were Nigerians.

Houdegbe made the remark at the University’s award of Degrees and conferment of Honorary Awards to its graduating students and other local and international personalities.

“Three years ago, we graduated about 3,000 students from different areas of studies.

“Today, the Houdegbe North American University is graduating about 2,000 students, as well as the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees on deserving personalities.

“Let me say that about 90 per cent of students in our university are Nigerians, who are happy being our students,’’ he said.

According to him, there is currently a growing interest of many young Nigerians in the courses being offered by the university, its affordability and good learning environment.

The president said that the university was meant to build bridges across political, economic, linguistic and cultural divides in West Africa, in particular, and Africa, in general.

Houdegbe commended former president Olusegun Obasanjo for his belief in the institution’s ideals, as well as the encouragement he had continued to give to the university.

Ms Samia Nkrumah, Founder of the Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Centre, said that the time had come for West African and other African countries to embrace the policy of “Education for All’’.

The daughter of former Ghanaian President Kwame Nkurumah, said that the overall development and transformation of the region and the continent would largely depend on education.

“We must be more committed in encouraging and promoting educational exchanges between West African countries and other African countries.

“We must realise as Africans that we currently have a very fast-growing young population that should be given qualitative education.

“We need to ensure that we actually prepare our young population to be more productive. We, therefore, need to encourage our young men and women to freely acquire education in any university of their choice, across West Africa and Africa in general,’’ she said.

Prof. Peng-Khuan Chong, an Emeritus Professor of Political Science, Plymouth State University, in the United States, ened the graduating and undergraduate students to learn to be competent, confident and have comion.

“Young men and women in the Republic of Benin, Nigeria and other African countries, should learn to be competent, be confident and have comion.

“And then, they must be courageously strong, innocently hopeful, and most importantly, be forever hopeful,’’ he said.

A Nigerian undergraduate at the university, Linus Richard, said that he and many other Nigerian students were happy to have had the opportunity to study at the institution.

Richard said that the institution’s ission process was devoid of the problems associated with writing a qualifying examination, it’s academic calendar hitch-free, with affordable fees, as well as a conducive study environment.

The university was established in 1992 in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, as a private tertiary institution, which offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Fashion house Dior showcased its Fall/Winter 2017 couture collection at the Paris Fashion Week currently holding in Paris, and Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie sat front row at the event.

Chimamanda who inspired the brand’s collection showcase at last year’s Paris Fashion Week with her popular saying “We Should All Be Feminist” made a bold statement at this year’s show runway show.

Clad in print, as usual, Chimamanda seems to be rocking a Nigerian fashion brand’s design as part of her ‘Wear Nigerian’ campaign. Although we aren’t quite sure who the designer is, Chimamanda did look Paris Fashion Week worthy in her attire.

Yoga is definitely not something that comes to the mind of the average Nigerian when they consider taking up a fitness routine. People who have heard about yoga actually think that it is a kind of religion where the followers mostly meditate and chant “Ohmmmm”, or contort their body in different ways. Their assumptions are not far-fetched; although it is not a religion, it is indeed a spiritual, mental, and physical practice extremely beneficial to mental and physical health.

Yoga is not very popular in the country (there are not as many yoga centers around the big cities as gyms or dance studios), it has been around for ages. Its benefits have only just become increasingly popular, as many are starting to realise that it offers a lot more to the body and mind than just increased flexibility and muscle strength.

Are you wondering what these benefits from yoga are, and why you should the #yogalife gang?

Immunity boost
Over the years, studies have shown that yoga actually can help boost a person’s immunity at a cellular level, and it does this through changes in gene expression. Our immune system consists of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body and fight off infections and diseases, so this sounds almost incredible as the exercise seems mostly eternal and nothing is literally absorbed into the system. Research has, however, also shown that this particular benefit of immunity boost can be experienced rather quickly, sometimes while you are still on the mat. Certain yoga postures, such as wheel pose, head stands, straddle ford bend and downward dog, imply that your head is below the heart for some time. This helps lymph move into your respiratory organs, a channel for most germs and infections into the body. When you get back upright, gravity drains the lymph and cleanses out your system. This in turn, strengthens your internal defence system, boosting your ability to fight off disease.

Tones the Body
A toned body oozes a level of sexiness which no one can truly ignore. Thanks to yoga, you do not have to be on the treill or elliptical for hours or necessarily carry weights for days to achieve this. Like a push-up or a pull-up, yoga only uses your own body weight as resistance. For the ladies, yoga won’t make you bulk up either. It will, instead, give you a nice, lean figure.
Yoga postures, such as the four-limbed staff pose and the boat pose, work the muscles in the same way as standard push-ups or abdominal crunches – a great choice if toning is the desired result. You must keep in mind that, while some yoga styles will you help tone muscles, it may not necessarily help you shed weight.

Improves breathing pattern and respiratory health
Inhalers, air humidifiers, nasal sprays and eucalyptus oil are great, but yoga offers simple breathing practices that not only reduce stress, quiet your mind and connect you to your inner self, but also sets you on a path to great respiratory health. Certain yoga poses allow you to move your spine in ways that stretch and strengthen the muscles all around your upper torso. These poses help you your respiratory system by keeping respiratory muscles strong and flexible. Again, yoga Asanas, breath awareness, and pranayama can help with managing mild asthma by improving breathing efficiency and decreasing inflammation.

Improves digestion
Food is a major part of our lives as humans; we suffer such things as indigestion, cramping, bloating and constipation from time to time. No matter the culprit: too much food, or something more serious like irritable bowel syndrome, they can be absolutely no fun. While eating high-fiber and probiotic-rich foods can help reduce incidents of indigestion, practicing yoga can also benefit your digestive system by cleansing, stimulating, and regulating your bowels. A number of yoga poses, including peacock pose, wind relieving posture, seated forward fold, corpse pose, massage the internal organs and keep food moving along. It is not best to practice yoga right after a meal, though.

Better, hotter sex
Sex is a great way to pleasure the body and yoga is one way to enhance time spent between the sheets. First, Yoga makes you more flexible generally, making it easy for you to try and actually enjoy a lot of sex positions…especially complicated ones like head over heels, the erotic accordion, and the pinwheel. Furthermore, it helps reduce anxiety and increases body awareness and confidence – a precondition for great sex. Finally, it accelerates the release of hormones that boost arousal and increase blood flow to the genital area, which is important for erections in men. Women are not left out in this, as a study shows that yoga helps strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, leading to greater lubrication and more powerful orgasms.

Actress Ebube Nwagbo, could care less what haters think or say about her.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the talented actress, who came under immense fire from followers on social media over her outfit to a concert, made it clear she pays no attention to haters.

“I am not even aware of anything like that because I don’t waste my time focusing on what’s not relevant. As long as it is not improving my life in any way or increasing my back , I don’t listen to it. People saying that my dress was short, were they expecting me to dress like a nun at a concert? There was nothing indecent about what I wore and I know my true fans would never complain about that. As a matter of fact, many people have reached out to me, saying that they loved my attire and would love to have the type.”

On rumors of having had her breasts enhanced, Ebube said:

“I wonder where that came from. My breast is all natural and I’m proud of it. Probably because there was a picture of me in which my boobs were partly revealed, people felt I must have gone under the knife. But that’s not true. With me, what you see is what you get.”

At its first ever “Soft Power” global conference aimed at tackling the lingering global issues of women equality, Irina Bokova – UNESCO Director General invited 55 women experts in field from Women Leadership to Global development to lead the conference as speakers and ists, in exploring this soft power approach.

They include current and past female Presidents, female of Royal Families from Jordan to the Netherlands, First Ladies, Female Foreign Ministers, and 14 year old filmmaker Zuriel Oduwole.

Zuriel was invited to share how she believes the media can play an active role in changing the negative perception and portrayal of women. And for her continuous work in speaking for Girls Education, she was also honored during the conference by a member of the Global Council of Women Leaders and current President of Malta Marie Louise Preca.

Speaking to UNESCO and French media afterwards, Zuriel was asked what she took away from the conference. “I learned that privilege is invincible to those who have it, because they cant see it, and cant see the effect on those who do not have it”.

Earlier in January, she was also honored by former U.S. Secretary of State – John Kerry, for her work on empowering Girls across Africa and the Americas, through her basic ‘Film Making 101″ class.

For hours now, a huge pot of boiling well kept hate embellished with rage and jealousy, has spewed over on the internet in form of harsh, lame and downright hateful unwarranted tweets, IG comments and what not towards rapper Falz, for having the audacity to not only mention FRAUDS/FRAUDSTERS but, also chastise artistes who use their music to promote the heart-wrenching, murderous trade. This event may have just taken a new turn with fresh facts presented on the length at which this theme has thrived in the industry.
With all the hate finally paving the way for some low self-esteemed, mentally displaced, self-loathing individuals to suddenly be consumed with ego and bragging rights they lack in real life, it should be noted that these norm (glorifying fraud/fraudsters) have actually been in play for a very long time.

To the carriers of the slogan 'I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, so I must 'Chache', here are 10 songs by Nigerian acts promoting fraudsters.

D'Banj - Mobolowowon
Olu Maintain - Yahoozee
Kelly Hansome - Maga Don Pay
Reminisce - 2Mussh
9ice - Living Things
Olamide - Prayer For Client
Junior Boy ft 9ice - Irapada [Now this song was meant to be about redemption but instead, it had the artistes hailing fraudsters and giving a couple of them cameo appearances in the video]
Shobzy ft CDQ, Ycee - Eruku Remix
Small Doctor - Penalty
Olalakeside - Elegushi Spender

Heated debates, shades and the likes, have for hours on end been taking place all over the country as to if Falz is right or not. With some agreeing Falz is right, but should have just turned a blind eye like few others have been doing, and others suddenly locating the writing spirit in them, composing lengthy open letters....what do you guys really think? Is Falz right and if he is , will he win the brewing war?
