UAIT is a platform from Unilever which provides students from various tertiary institutions all over Nigeria to create business solutions and ideas to existing future and business problems. For this years edition, closeup toothpaste was picked out of the several products of Unilever such as omo, blueband, pepsodent, revlon, knorr, sunlight to mention but a few. Over 3000 entries were received after which it was shortlisted to 280 and then to the final 36 that will be coming to lagos fo the semi finals and finals.

The journey of a life time started on the 15th of August 2016 when we were among the lucky 36. We were called up by Unilever to make ourselves available for the bootcamp as our tickets had been bought and our flight booked. We left abuja on the 23rd of August and arrived in lagos just within 45mins. We were picked up by the Unilever staffs and taken to the headquaters at ikeji for registration after which we were lodged in a high class hotel in lagos. We then had dinner our dinner and went to sleep due to the fact that it was our first day in the bootcamp and we were already stressed out.

The next morning we had our aerobic excercise along with some of the Unilever staffs such as Yeyewa, Sally, Demola and Dolapo, after which we had our shower and also breakfast. Varieties of dishes were made available and it was all buffet serving grin. After breakfast we had a brief interactive session after which we were taken to the headquaters for the business of the day. We were opportuned to be given business talks by various high profiled individuals in Nigeria such as the MD Unilever, Mr Yaw Nsakor, Aruosa Osemwegie and our various group mentors. Each group comprises of 3 students and a mentor assaigned to them by Unilever. After the interactive session we had our lunch (one of the best part of the day grin). Diffrent varieties of food were made available such as pounded yam with loaded egusi soup, jollof rice, fried rice, salad (both fruit and vegetable) and all other good food you can think of because i later lost count. After lunch we got along with other participants and few of the company staffs that were less busy. At exactly 5pm we were taken to shoprite by Mrs Merilyn in order to have a better view of the state for newbies like us and also to display our marketing abilities. But to our utmost surprise all the closeup toothpaste had been bought so we couldnt display our marketing abilities to her (it was a bit dissapointing) but Unilever has a way of always making up..we were all compensated with ice cream of our choice in the mall after which we retired for the day.

Day 3 was our semi-finals day so the tension in the house was high... We were then taken to the mall for a budget dinner after the semi finals to ease the tension. Each team was given a certain amount of money and told to buy dinner of their choice in mall.. Team innovatus won the budget dinner and were given back their remaining money to share.... Fast forward to the day of the finals which was on friday the 26th of August, 6 teams qualified for the finals and team mugambbo which comprises of two males from futminna and a female from uniben were the first to qualify after which team adobe, innovatus, golden, cool cliq and dynamic crew were called.

The finals was really intense, loaded and funfilled as the audience were really entertained. Some of the audience went home with customised beats by dre and iphone 6s. Team adobe from UI were later crowned the winners and are to represnt Nigeria in south Africa early next year. I will like to appreciate the entire staff of Unilever, Mr yaw Nsakor, sally, demola, yeyewa, Dolapo, Jennifer to mention but a few. My utmost thanks and gratitude also goes to Mrs merilyn who was a mother to us all at the event as she stood as she stood by our side and was very caring to us as well

Lastly, i noticed that most of the staffs are always happy to come to work and they are always on casuals during week days which is rare in most companies. Unilever which is one of the best place to work, one of the top employers in Africa, gives out wonderful gifts such as customized iphone 6s, beats by dre, ipads, and other lovely gifts to their loyal fans on their facebook and instagram . You can also get a mentorship session, intern opportunity and also get to be their brand ambassador.
