We from the south, we have a wrong perception of Northern tertiary institution... It is very difficult for a southerner to be offered ission in a northern University especially for professional courses except by merit. By merit I mean being the highest from his state.
Due to catchment area policy of ission in Nigeria, no southern state is in the northern state catchment area and vice versa. So a person with 262 from Jigawa may be itted to ABU yet a person with 305 from OYO may be denied ission.
Northern Universities are not easy to get as a southerner except you are a very high flyer.
As per 2nd choice school, hardly a federal University accept 2nd choice, Uniport, EBSU, ESUT and some other state schools allow second choice to sit for their post UTME but must change to first choice to be offered ission. EBSU don't do post UTME, and state schools are expensive.
My advise, focus on your first choice. State universities are less competitive and easier to get compared to federal universities but are more expensive.
If you have the finance go for state University like EBSU, no post UTME, and with a little above 250 you can get MBBS or choose a federal institution in your catchment area with a little above 290 average of both UTME and Post UTME you are in. If you chose to go outside your catchment area... To be on a safer side, gun for an average of 320.

It is only if u had tried Northern Universities that u would know that it's not easy to get ission there especially that of MBBS. The hardest is the Bayero University Kano medical school. If u are not from Kano state or the sister state, forget it. If u are an Igbo, u must be a genus ...probably the best for u to get ission into MBBS in BUK. It is easier to get MBBS in southern universities than the core Northern universities.

If u are coming to BUK, your JAMB score must be 320 and above except that u are from the North West region. BUK is very very competitive especially when u are from the South. You can try ABU or UNICAL. However, BUk is the best medical school in Nigeria.

I never knew the reason Univarsity of portharcourt nicknamed itself "unique Uniport "until I realised that Gracious David-West , the Rivers serial killer graduated from Uniport.

I was in the last MBBS/BDS induction in Buk, the president Of the MDCN was there, Prof Sanusi. He extolled BUK for its quality products.
Let me tell u that in the Northern Nigeria, BUK is the best in Medical field. Have u been there? Have u spoken with its products?
BUK has 150 as quota for mbbs but it itts only about 100 to make it up using DE in yr2 .
I want to charge u to Google about last Nigeria medical Students competitions organized by NMA. BUK WON It. All the equipment u want is there ...standard and comfortable class rooms. Very quality lecturers. I know 2 Egyptians lecturers in Physiology department.
I know 2 Indians in Pathology and 1 Pakistani in Pharmacology...and many stronger men. They don't make noise like the other universities...just come there are see. Unijos spend like 8yrs minimum in Medical school due to poor / lack of equipment and manpower.
Ask people people that are there.

Kano — Kano State government has explained that the structures of the Christ the King Catholic Church, were demolished by the Kano State Urban Planning Development Agency (KANUPDA) because the Church officials refused to acquire Certificate of Occupancy before commencing building.
