It's Still Possible

TEXT: LUKE 1:21-25

"Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men" (Luke 1:25).

Someone says, life is generally full of challenges and battles. The world in which we live has not always been particularly friendly to those that put their confidence in God. Satan attempts to hinder believers from getting their heart desires in order to discourage them from serving God.

However, the characters in our text have shown that they are a different species of people of God. Zechariah and Elizabeth had dedicated their entire lives to serve God in the temple though they had no children. Barrenness did not in any way reduce their commitment and consecration to God. In fact, it appears that the more the physical and emotional need, the more they re-dedicated their lives to God. They had become so engrossed in the work of God that they had practically forgotten the pressing needs in their families. Little wonder that when the angel appeared to Hezekiah to assure him that God was ready to give them a son, he never believed that it would still be possible. Elizabeth herself had grown so old that the hope of having a child had long been forgotten.

But the highpoint of the lessons in our age is set forth in the response of Elizabeth when she confirmed that indeed God has visited her. The flood of joy that surged through her heart gushed out through her lips in an ecstatic expression of thanksgiving and gratitude to God. She showed that, at last, her reproach of childlessness has been removed, her many days of mourning now turned into joy.

The story of this Christian home is a challenge to every family where there is a trial of faith by way of childlessness, prolonged illness, poverty and other forms of needs that may have brought shame to the entire household. The message is that God never sleeps; He is still alive and He will make all things beautiful in his time.

There is need for us to have absolute confidence in God, in His unfailing promises. What God says He will do, He will do, regardless of the surrounding circumstances. Once we remain steadfast and committed to Him, though weeping may endure for a night, joy will definitely come in the morning

Thought for the day: "There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel"

There is a plot of land that almost got a colleague into trouble in Lekki Phase 1 and a guy got my number from this site to help him market same plot. It's BLOCK 78 PLOT 18. Since the guy seems to be going around and calling agents randomly to help sell this plot, I'm using this medium to warn any agent that has been ed by this person to not even go near it at all as it was confirmed to me by a guy that I was directed to by the caller that it was a scam by the caller.

As a rule when it comes to sales, especially land, I only deal with people I know, either through referral from personal s or reputable agents.

Let's all be careful.

You turn off the road before you get to Eputu bus stop. Like I said, it's about 3 mins drive from the express. The land had been paid for by our company and you will get a contract of purchase from our company, while the deed of assignment will be from the family which we will obtain for you at no further cost; also the survey plan in your name. There is a Lagos State government gazzette covering that area.

Perimeter fencing round the plot of land. This land is secured from any omonile issues and can be bought and kept as investment for future purpose as there is no risk of it being taken over and sold to anyone else. Our company has fully paid for it and has all the documentation covering it.

Pictures showing perimeter fencing and road leading to the plots, about 3 minustes drive from the expressway.

Or @ Seun, why not create a Property Market like you have a Technology Market? I think most agents prefer to post in the real NL instead of Nairalist, I haven't checked out nairalist myself so I can understand that.

The trend in the property section almost smacks of desperation when you find that an agent starts a new thread for the same property that was posted a day before. It can get very confusing, and even as an agent it gives me a headache.

What you need to do is search through the adverts and select what you want, get a reliable lawyer to do a search for you. If you're not in the country, then arrange for someone you trust to do the ground work for you or you can visit yourself to what you are buying. Go through the topics posted by the to know what you should look out before you buy. Happy searching.

Yes, sadly only in the really expensive short let apartments and the really poor slummy areas and temporary shacks. This is the reality.

What you need to understand is that many landlords struggle to raise money to build their houses, there's no assistance from banks or government or cooperative societies except in very few organisations. The average landlord after building his house wants to try and recoup some of his investments, hence the demand mostly for two years rent and more recently some are lenient enough to collect one year's rent. I don't see this changing any time soon. The Lagos state government tried enacting a law with regards to this and it did go very far with a lot of noise made about it and expectations from the hapless Lagos tenant. But I've not heard anything for sometime.

Are you considering getting a divorce or you know someone who is?

Check this link. http://www.gotquestions.org/divorce-remarriage.html .
Question: "What does the Bible say about divorce and remarriage?"

Answer: First of all, no matter what view one takes on the issue of divorce, it is important to Malachi 2:16: “I hate divorce, says the LORD God of Israel.” According to the Bible, marriage is a lifetime commitment. “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has ed together, let man not separate” (Matthew 19.) God realizes, though, that since marriages involve two sinful human beings, divorces are going to occur. In the Old Testament, He laid down some laws in order to protect the rights of divorcees, especially women (Deuteronomy 24:1-4). Jesus pointed out that these laws were given because of the hardness of people’s hearts, not because they were God’s desire (Matthew 19:cool.

The controversy over whether divorce and remarriage is allowed according to the Bible revolves primarily around Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:32 and 19:9. The phrase “except for marital unfaithfulness” is the only thing in Scripture that possibly gives God’s permission for divorce and remarriage. Many interpreters understand this “exception clause” as referring to “marital unfaithfulness” during the “betrothal” period. In Jewish custom, a man and a woman were considered married even while they were still engaged or “betrothed.” According to this view, immorality during this “betrothal” period would then be the only valid reason for a divorce.

However, the Greek word translated “marital unfaithfulness” is a word which can mean any form of sexual immorality. It can mean fornication, prostitution, adultery, etc. Jesus is possibly saying that divorce is permissible if sexual immorality is committed. Sexual relations are an integral part of the marital bond: “the two will become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5; Ephesians 5:31). Therefore, any breaking of that bond by sexual relations outside of marriage might be a permissible reason for divorce. If so, Jesus also has remarriage in mind in this age. The phrase “and marries another” (Matthew 19:9) indicates that divorce and remarriage are allowed in an instance of the exception clause, whatever it is interpreted to be. It is important to note that only the innocent party is allowed to remarry. Although it is not stated in the text, the allowance for remarriage after a divorce is God’s mercy for the one who was sinned against, not for the one who committed the sexual immorality. There may be instances where the “guilty party” is allowed to remarry, but it is not taught in this text.

Some understand 1 Corinthians 7:15 as another “exception,” allowing remarriage if an unbelieving spouse divorces a believer. However, the context does not mention remarriage, but only says a believer is not bound to continue a marriage if an unbelieving spouse wants to leave. Others claim that abuse (spousal or child) is a valid reason for divorce even though it is not listed as such in the Bible. While this may very well be the case, it is never wise to presume upon the Word of God.

Sometimes lost in the debate over the exception clause is the fact that whatever “marital unfaithfulness” means, it is an allowance for divorce, not a requirement for it. Even when adultery is committed, a couple can, through God’s grace, learn to forgive and begin rebuilding their marriage. God has forgiven us of so much more. Surely we can follow His example and even forgive the sin of adultery (Ephesians 4:32). However, in many instances, a spouse is unrepentant and continues in sexual immorality. That is where Matthew 19:9 can possibly be applied. Many also look to quickly remarry after a divorce when God might desire them to remain single. God sometimes calls people to be single so that their attention is not divided (1 Corinthians 7:32-35). Remarriage after a divorce may be an option in some circumstances, but that does not mean it is the only option.

It is distressing that the divorce rate among professing Christians is nearly as high as that of the unbelieving world. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and that reconciliation and forgiveness should be the marks of a believer’s life (Luke 11:4; Ephesians 4:32). However, God recognizes that divorce will occur, even among His children. A divorced and/or remarried believer should not feel any less loved by God, even if the divorce and/or remarriage is not covered under the possible exception clause of Matthew 19:9. God often uses even the sinful disobedience of Christians to accomplish great good.

The house in question is located behind Femi Okunnu Estate at the Jakande Roundabout. It's not in Lekki Phase 1. There are clear guidelines for building houses in this axis but in an attempt to cut corners many landlords ignore these guidelines. The house is not the only house in that location that has this problem. The road is way higher than many of the houses and in particular this house. One of the other houses I saw there has the ground floor almost completely submerged by water and the owner still wants to rent out the other two floors, it's pathetic. Without mincing words, I and my colleagues that went to inspect the property told him that the whole house has to be brought down and a new house built. I cannot even imagine my enemy living in that place. The whole thing can just crumble one day having been weakened by water.

Having said that, there seems to be an attempt to discredit everything Lekki in this thread. I when it rained sometime in July of 2008 and there was flash flooding in Yaba. Most people living there were taken unawares and had to contend with the fallout of the rain of that particular day which flooded many houses.

What we see in Lekki in of bad roads is symptomatic of what obtains in most parts of Lagos.

I wonder if you have your answer yet. I'll just give you a first hand experience.

I lived in Lekki from 2007 till sometime last year and though I now stay in VGC I am mostly in Lekki at my sister's place. Until exactly a month ago, they bought water. They only succeeded with a borehole last month, which is still suspect and the water is hard and it's not used for cooking, but just other domestic stuff like bathing, washing etc. This was like the fourth or fifth attempt, even trying an industrial borehole which failed. Most of their neighbors have had the same exprience and resort to buying water or getting the one that comes from the public taps which is actually brown and if you leave it for sometime and it settles you can see the mud at the bottom of the bucket. Pretty sad.

I personally think that the water problem is peculiar to Lekki 1. I think the further down you go on the axis, the success rate of boreholes is better than in Lekki. Moreover, most of the private estates like Nicon Town, Northern Foreshore, Friends Colony etc don't seem to have problem with water as the estates have their own mini water works. VGC, definitely has good water from my experience. I know that when my sister and her family lived in Sangotedo, there was never a problem with the water.

So, yea, IMO, it's a Lekki problem. That's why water tanker business thrives on this axis.

I wonder what the road was like today with the rains. Last week after the heavy downpour of Tuesday or thereabouts I noticed that the drainages after the 1st Roundabout up to the Toll Gate were filled and the sides of the road were flooded. It's funny that the water was not channelled into the Lagoon which is right beside the road. It does not make any sense.
