Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede has tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus days after he returned from the United Kingdom.

A statement from the media office of the service on Sunday signed by one Sunday James said Babandede had since gone into isolation.

The statement reads;

“The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service Muhammad Babandede health status with regard to Corona Virus and his self isolation since he returned from UK.

“As a top official of government he has adhered to the NCDC instructions to self isolate and undergo test.

“The result of the test came out positive, hence the need to make it public, he convey his goodwill to all and he is in stable condition responding to treatment.

“The Comptroller General is active and directing as expected the affairs of the service online, while the Deputy Comptroller General Overseeing the istration of the service is in touch online to keep service activities running within this period.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service community will continue to deliver on its mandate for the nation even in this trying times as we pray the whole world get over it, Nigeria inclusive”.

Babandede had returned to Nigeria through a British Airways flight which touched down in Lagos on March 22.

Unfortunately, my fiancé’s results came back positive while all 31 others tested have come back negative including our baby. We are however doing perfectly fine and she is even still yet to show any symptoms whatsoever. She is now being quarantined and I have also gone into full self isolation for the minimum 14 days. A pastor has been arrested for flouting the directives of President Akufo-Addo.

The Head pastor of the Open Arms Ministry, Apostle Kofi Nkrumah Sarkodie reportedly organized a church service despite a ban on public gatherings including church services.

According to Peace FM Ashanti regional correspondent, Samson K. Nyamekye, the church initially resisted attempts by the police to pick up the Head Pastor, and started chanting prayers and singing.

The church is located at North Suntreso in the Ashanti Region. The president in a broadcast on Sunday suspended all public gatherings in the country with immediate effect following the increased cases of coronavirus in ghana.

“I have decided, in the interest of public safety and protection of our population, to review the public gathering advisories earlier announced. You may recall that on Wednesday, 12th March 2020, when first spoke to you directly on this matter, I announced the first raft of enhanced measures taken in response to the pandemic. At the time, there had been no reported, confirmed case of the Coronavirus in Ghana,”
President Akufo-Addo said.

Ghana has recorded 7 cases of the pandemic so far. The country is currently faced with over 350 people having had with the affected persons being observed.
