DOES the thought of living life sugar-free fill you with horror? If so, you may unknowingly be addicted. In fact, sugar is believed to be eight times more addictive than cocaine. Some people are more sensitive than others, but the more sugar you eat, the more likely it has taken hold of your addictive pathways and is driving you to eat – and drink – far too much.
When sugar hits the bloodstream, it stimulates release of a brain chemical called dopamine, which makes you feel good. The feeling is usually short-lived. By the time you’re licking the chocolate off your fingertips or picking the last crumbs of biscuit from the plate, your dopamine levels will probably have fallen, taking you into a mini-withdrawal. This can trigger cravings for more sugar, urging you, against your better judgement, to pick up another biscuit or break off another square of chocolate so your brain can have another hit of dopamine. Before long, the biological signals that would normally control hunger and satiety (fullness) are swiftly being overwhelmed by this dopamine stimulation, to the point where your body (and brain) starts listening only to sugar’s cues and ignores the fact that you have already eaten far more than you need.
If you have even the mildest addiction to sugar, there is every chance that your ‘off’ switch no longer works properly in response to eating, either. That’s why one biscuit or scoop of ice-cream never seems like enough, even after a huge meal. The more sugar you eat, the more your tolerance adapts, so you end up needing more and more sugar to get the same boost – drug addicts and alcoholics experience the same cycle.
QUIZ: ARE YOU A SUGAR ADDICT?
ANSWER honestly yes or no to the following questions …
*CAN YOU eat sweet, starchy or fatty foods until you are over- full?
*DO YOU feel hungry even after eating a full meal
*CAN YOU eat large quantities of sweets or stodgy foods even when you’re not feeling particularly hungry?
*DO YOU ever feel ashamed (self-loathing, disgusted or depressed) about your eating habits?
*DO YOU ever turn to sugar when you are feeling down or upset?
*WHEN things are bad, do you find you need more and more sweet foods to feel better?
*DO YOU plan to eat a small portion (such as one biscuit), but end up binge-eating (demolishing the whole packet)?
*DO YOU find starchy, sweet or fatty foods the most difficult to cut back on?
*DO YOU find it difficult to stop once you start eating starches, snack foods, junk foods or sweets?
*ARE your eating habits having an impact on your social life, work or physical abilities?
*DO YOU find it impossible to stick to healthy-eating resolutions?
*DO YOU feel you need to (have to) have something sweet after lunch or dinner?
*DO YOU eat sweets and chocolates secretly and hide the wrappers because you don’t want anyone to know?
*IF YOU cut yourself one piece of cake, do you then find yourself coming back for more and more?
*DO YOU get a foggy head after big meals (or mid-afternoon)?
IF YOU answered ‘yes’ to five or more of these questions, you could be a sugar addict.
This means that understanding what to eat and how much to eat is only part of the story.
Your relationship with food may be stuck in a destructive pattern.
Perhaps you comfort eat or binge. Perhaps sugar (including processed carbs and junk food) fills a greater void in your life than just satisfying a physical craving
Sugar addiction is far more common than you might think. It often triggers a compulsive pursuit of foods rich in sugar and carbohydrates in response to both positive (‘let’s all celebrate with cake!) and negative (‘only chocolate will make me happy’) feelings.
But quitting sugar is the nutritional reset that will enable you to break the cycle of reliance and addiction.
AVOID SWEETNERS
ALTHOUGH artificial sweeteners can confuse your system. and make it tougher to quit sugar, if you rely on them long-term (they can ‘feed’ your sweet tooth and spark sugar and carb cravings], on occasion they can make the change to a sugar-free life easier. So avoid
aspartame, Splenda and Canderel, don’t touch diet drinks and only use more natural sweeteners such as stevia and xylitol.
If, however, after two or three weeks on your LCHF programme, you are still feeling hungry or noticing sugar cravings, then sweeteners could be to blame, so gradually reduce your intake.
ANY WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS?
YOU may experience slight physical discomfort, such as a headache, or cravings for sugar and carbs, but stick with the plan – this will . After a few days, you should notice improved physical well- being, less bloating, a clearer head, increased energy and improved mood.

From time to time, I spend the holidays with my mum’s elder sister and I used to get on well with my cousins. But early last year, I woke to feel the hand, of my eldest cousin under my nightie.
I was so frightened though curious that I pretended to still be sleeping. After this, he tried to have full sex with me, but I pushed him off. Then he started being very nice to me, introducing me to his friends and giving me presents.
I was having such a good time that when next he came to the guest room, I let him have sex with me. He now thinks he could do that any time he wants but I’ve told him to stop.
Recently, he’s been forcing me to have sex with him whether I like it or not. I enjoy the sex but I’m only 16 and he is my first cousin. How do I make him stop?

The South African Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande has announced plans to have witchcraft included in the curriculum from 2018.
Speaking to representatives from student unions around the country, the minister announced the shocking move and urged future university entrees to consider taking Witchcraft. “There is a lot we can learn from witchcraft, like how they fly in that winnowing basket. Imagine if we learn that skill. It will eradicate traffic jams and everyone will just get in their basket and fly. It also means we will not be importing fuel anymore.” Blade said.
The announcement was met with boos and bottle throws from the packed auditorium who had gone to the meeting hoping the minister would announce a 0% fee increase for the coming year. The unperturbed minister also invited renowned witches to make an appointment with his office so they can have their skills tested and those outstanding would then be hired as lecturers.
He also invited witches from across the border, promising them permanent residents permits. “I spoke to Gibs (Minister of Home affairs Malusi Gigaba) and he agreed to issue witches from outside South Africa with permanent residence permits. I heard Malawi and Zimbabwe have an impressive collection of witches. We are hoping they will heed the call”, he added.
Applications is said to be closing on the 30th of September at midnight, after which an appointed with conduct interviews. There currently is an opening for 109 witches.

Cristiano.R can win the Euros, he can claim another Ballon d'Or or perhaps more, but even if he were to win the World Cup with Portugal, he would still not be a better player than the Argentine attacker. Messi is simply superior on every level. Ronaldo scores loads of goals? Yes, he does. But Messi has still scored more in the time the two have played in Spain. And although Cristiano can boast some spectacular efforts among those strikes, most are via a single touch, a thunderous drive, a prodigious leap - especially these days. Pep Guardiola was once asked to describe Messi in words and said: "You can't - you have to watch him." And it is true. Look at Ronaldo's goals. Impressed? Great. Now look at Messi's goals. Then look back at Cristiano's after that. Still as impressed as you were before? The same can be said for the assists. The Portuguese produces his fair share, but the assist he claimed against Wales on Wednesday was typical - a mishit shot redirected into the net by Nani. Ronaldo shoots so often that many of his efforts fail to hit the target and some find a team-mate in a better position. That's logical. Not all of them are that way, of course, but again his assists are fewer, less spectacular and usually far less difficult technically than Messi's. That's why stats don't tell the whole story. Messi is much more than numbers and it is not the same thing to beat five players and score in a spectacular solo run than it is to hammer home from close range at the far post - even if both are ultimately worth the same. And it's the same with assists: a mesmerising run past three or four players before setting up a team-mate or a wonderful curling delivery from deep to take out several defenders is so much more difficult than a mere cross, a single or even a mishit shot. But even if you measure the two in numbers, Messi is ahead. And in of trophies, he is well clear. While Ronaldo has claimed 17 titles at Manchester United and Real Madrid (nine and eight respectively), the Argentine has won 28 with Barcelona (including two trebles) and he is over two years younger than the Portuguese. At international level, neither has achieved what many believe they should have. Messi, after helping Argentina to an Under-20 World Cup and an Olympic gold medal (with the U-23 team), has failed to add a title with the senior side - losing four finals (three Copas America and one World Cup) and calling time on his Argentina career after the latest disappointment in the Copa America Centenario when he missed a penalty in the shootout loss to Chile. Ronaldo, meanwhile, lost out in the final at Euro 2004, fell again in the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup and also in the last four at Euro 2012. He has come close, but was disappointing along with his team-mates in group-stage exit at Brazil 2014 and Sunday's showpiece in Paris is quite probably his last real shot at a major honour with his country. But even if he wins it and produces a match-winning performance at the Stade de , that will not make him a finer footballer than Messi. The Argentine creates more than Cristiano, scores greater goals, is less selfish, dribbles better, possesses superior technique and ing, and is also on top when it comes to free-kicks now. Victory for Portugal in the Euros won't change any of that. Football is all about opinions, of course, but it is fair to say that the only ones who believe Ronaldo to be better than Messi are either Portuguese, Real Madrid fans or (some) Manchester United ers. Everyone else, including neutrals, thinks Messi is the number one. And that's because he is - whatever happens on Sunday.

RONALDO CAN WIN EURO 2016 AND THE WORLD CUP BUT MESSI WILL STILL BE NUMBER ONE...

THE leadership of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has said its strike, expected to commence today, would be total. The strike was called in view of alleged insensitivity of the Federal Government to resolve some issues affecting the oil and gas sector. This is even as the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, and the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, are expected to meet with the aggrieved leaderships of PENGASSAN and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, this morning to find solutions to the disputes. Speaking to Vanguard on phone in Abuja yesterday, PENGASSAN’s Public Relations Officer, Emma Ojugbana, said there was no sign to the effect that the strike, which he said would be a total shut down, would be shelved. Ojugbana, who said he was not aware of any scheduled meeting with the government today, stated: “The strike will hold today. I am not aware of any meeting organised by anybody with our association. Our leaders in various zones are mobilising and it will start midnight today.” The issues He said the association had been engaging with government over t Venture Funding and the non- age of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, which was pending at the National Assembly, among other issues, without any positive result from the side of the government. According to him, PENGASSAN had scheduled to meet with the Minister of State for Petroleum and immediate past Group Managing Director, GMD, of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on June 30. Unfortunately, the meeting could not hold as the leaders of the oil and gas sector were told, when they got to Abuja, that the minister was away on an assignment. He said the association planned the action because of government’s insensitivity to the oil and gas sector, which is the mainstay of the nation’s economy. Ojugbana said the strike, which would paralyse socio- economic activities nationwide, would involve the upstream and downstream sectors as well as the loading and export sector. “It is going to be a total shut down,” he said. We’re meeting with them—GOVT Meanwhile, a statement from the Deputy Director, Press, in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Samuel Olowookere, yesterday, stated that Senator Ngige and Dr. Kachikwu would meet with the labour leaders in the oil and gas sector today. The two paragraph statement read: “The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige and the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, will tomorrow (today) hold a crucial meeting with Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and Nigeria Union of Petroleum & Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, to find a lasting solution to the lingering problems in the oil and gas sector. “The meeting is scheduled to hold at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Minister’s Board Room, 11th Floor, NNPC Towers, Abuja at 10a.m. prompt.”

ABA—Police in Abia State are currently investigating the death of a female househelp allegedly killed by a toddler with his lawyer-father’s gun in Aba. Meanwhile, security agents in the state have launched efforts to rescue a kidnapped Medical Director of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba. Though information about the death of the househelp is still sketchy, it was gathered that the lawyer’s child, said to be about seven years old, jokingly shot dead their house help with his father’s gun. The child was said to have picked the father’s gun from his bedroom, thinking it was a toy gun. Tunde Olaniyan, an Ordinary National Diploma, OND
student of the Lagos State Polytechnic , can be
described as the proverbial cat with nine lives owing to
his recent narrow escape from a suicidal act. The 21-
year-old ancy student who concluded to end it
all by drinking a poisonous substance last month , left a
suicide note for his parents, notifying them of his
action. Reason? His school fees which his family
struggled to gather was stolen by suspected pick
pockets, while on his way to school penultimate
Tuesday, an act he concluded had dashed his hope of
furthering his education .
Confusion set in for
the undergraduate
who upon arriving
school , decided to
bring the N45,000
which he neatly
wrapped in a piece
of paper out of his
nap sac, only to
discover that the
bag was torn by
the side, from
where the money
was tactically
stolen. Calling his
parents was the last
thing on his mind .
Rather, the dark
skinned student
walked absent-
mindedly out of the class room, down to a church in
Isolo area of Lagos where he sleeps at night.
Crime Guard investigation revealed that the Olanyan
family struggle for survival, like several other Nigerians
out there, began after its bread winner , Amos
Olaniyan, was verbally suspended from the Nigeria
Police same year Tunde was born, by the Police
Commissioner in Oyo state, Abubakar Tsav, over
alleged bribery and corruption . Although report had it
that the Senate had on December 15 , 2016 directed
his reinstatement , after due investigation which
exonerated Amos from the allegation, till date, Police
authorities are yet to adhere to the directive.
Since his suspension as a Sergeant, Amos Olaniya has
been engaged in all manner of menial jobs in a bid to
eke out a living for his family. He is at the moment a
driver in Ibadan, Oyo state, from where he visits his
family in Lagos. It was further gathered that Amos’s
monthly salary and proceeds from his wife’s trade was
put together to make up the N45,000 needed for their
son’s school fees.
