Do you have pure hetero broomstick?

Wishing you all the very best!!!

Hello NUVEMBARZINTL,

By Pure Hetero, i believe u are referring to the species that has its dorsal fin truncated half way to its tail.

Not At all.

My collections are just like the ones in the pics.

sir your advices are very appreciated, as for the breeder he said they are 9wks old though i dnt trust him cos since i bought them he never called to ask about the fishes and when i called him that almost 40 piece are not growing he didn't say anything, i think it should be the last business btw us...... But with baba God that i rely on, all is wel wit me and my fishes. As for the fish in basket its vry heighty, sir thanks and God bless.

Hello Godwinufi68,
Perhaps i could share my experience with my breeder.
I needed fingerlins, and my breeder said the fishes he had would not be ideal for surface tank farmers like me. I pressured him to sell 200pcs of his so-called 'Poor growing batch to me' to see if i could get d best out of them - also to test if the breeder wanted post me. Below are my facts:

Pick-up date - 01/02/15
'Execution date' - 10/5/2015
Duration - 3mnths 9days
fingerlin Qty - 200pcs
Feed consumed - 4bags of Vital 2mm (60kg/ N16,800)
Water quality - Daily change
Total qty/weight as at 10/5/15 - 170pcs/ 21.7kg/ N7,595
Overall assessment of growth - Poor (Pure waste of time and resources)

This doesn't necessarily apply to your situation, but watch the growth of your fingerlins and don't pray they get to your desired size on time. Cut your losses by disposing them if their growth is below expectation.

Hello Everyone,
As a benefactor of diverse info from this thread. I would like to make my little contribution to everyone.

I am privileged to know that the Dollar price is going higher, and CBN has withdrawn their set Exchange limit. The implication is that the Dollar has been deregulated - even though the word is highly placed at the back seat due to the sentiments attached to the word deregulation. News has also been going round regarding the challenge of oil marketers is purchasing refined oil due to the high exchange rate. Black market rate has soared from N340(about a month ago) to N374 (today).

The "likely" outcome of a floating Dollar to farmer is that the prices of imported feeds are going to rise, petrol is also likely to be affected. Much more is that cash in the bank is gradually devaluing, as N50,000 for 10bags after another price hike will not be able to purchase d same qty of feed. Rather than buy feeds in bits, i advice to purchase more into storage. While am not sure how this gradual Dollar price increase will take its toll as it head to N300/Usd frm N283/Usd btw banks, we can take positions now to convert our cash to needed commodities b4 it hits our needed commodities.

Kudos Robonski15,
For cheering d price increase. Been seeking information on d likely farmgate price despite increase price of feed n other resources.

These forum seem d be d only robust forum for seeking info on marketing n production.

Its not going to be easy to negotiate d prices u mentioned, but d earlier we all start resisting rediculous price offers better.

I decided to smoke n sell my slow growing fishes to reduce d burden of feed n pressure to sell. So i can negotiate within d range u suggested.

robonski15:
# Hello fellow farmers, We will no longer sell fish at the mercy of buyers, Feed cost has gone up drastically and its high time we also increase the price of fish. We should henceforth start selling our catfish of 300g to 800g for #500 while fishes Above 800g should be sold for #600-650

Lets adhere to this price as we will no longer be rearing fish for months for the buyers to still come to our farms to dictate the price for us. Enough is enough..

Very important also let us stock the amount of fishes we can conveniently cater for to avoid panic selling..

Sorry about your loss bro, like you rightly said without the right info one is gambling which is so true, that was also my case back then, but thank God we have more info to guide newbies.. Are you still in the business or you have backed out?

Hi Robonski15,
Perserverance has kept me going. Still doing d biz o.

Robonski's experience is exactly like mine. The loses (which i kept records too) were in hundreds of thousands. And recovery frm such loses isn't easy, let alone sustaining d interest in d biz.

I kept hearing d same pattern of when i sought help. Looking back, I wish i took time to consult when trying out feeds - in particular. Learning frm experience could be bitter.

On d other hand, i have a rookie friend whom we started about d same time, and he discovered his own pattern of feeding and stuck to it, and he gets good returns.

At d end, without d right info, one is gambling.

Dear all,

In my opinion, farmers using earthen ponds have less worry about d extra expenses that results from power supply (fuel price hike) and repairs, when compared to surface tank farmers that require frequent water change.

The reality is that d market women (Iya-Eleja) association, with their strong union, peg price to dat of earthen pond farmers (outskirt settlers) bearest minimum offer - thereby putting metropolis farmers at a disadvantage. And truely, they dont care if metropolis farmers incurred additional costs.

Recently, poor power n fuel supply has driven a lot of farmers out of biz. And currently, based on d number of phone calls for demand, i can say dat d scarcity of catfish is rising within Lagos. And having a supply isnt a guarantee that d price offer will increase because of earthen pond growers; if it does, the buying will be in bits - quite annoyin frequency.
Even my fish breeder confirmed a sharp drop in demand for fingerlins, despite struggling with N5000 diesel consumption daily.

Smart farmers within town logged out or reduced capacity when power supply dropped to prevent losses. And smoking d fishes seems like a better alternative for city farmers.

My question is, what pricing are fellow city farmers likely to peg prices - despite power outage n fuel at N145/litr.

U seem to 4get Nigerians are very good at what they do. U simply 4gotten so soon the advent of switching a different car engine make for another(Datsun engine for Mazda back in the days).

U guyz need to pay a long visit to Lawanson(oshodi area) and ile-zik(ikeja airport area) and see transformation on car.-i have! e.g zebra interior upholstery, u dont even have to replace yur front lights when they look worn-out or dull. simply consult them. they might lack technological ideas, but when comes to knowing attractive and expensive things that can enrich pockets, omo-unaS(igboS) are very good at it.
