WASHINGTON – Around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2000, Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore called his Republican opponent, George W. Bush, to concede, and he began making his way to the War Memorial Plaza in Nashville, Tennessee, to address his ers. Gore retracted his concession only an hour later. And networks retracted their projections that Bush had won Florida's 25 electoral votes. By the time the sun rose, the presidency remained undecided. Bush was ahead by only 1,784 votes out of about 6 million cast in the state, a very narrow margin that triggered an automatic recount. What followed was five tumultuous weeks of back-to-back legal fights that reached the U.S. Supreme Court. Gore pushed for manual recounts in certain counties; Bush pushed back against them. By December, the high court ruled 5-4 in Bush's favor to stop the manual recounts. The final tally had Bush ahead by just 537 votes. What happened two decades ago is far from what's happening now in 2020, legal experts say. In 2000, the outcome hinged on just one state: Florida. A win in the Sunshine State would push either candidate toward victory. In the end, a difference of only a few hundred votes was key to deciding the presidency, and this very narrow margin allowed both sides to fight aggressively over every ballot. In 2020, President-elect Joe Biden is ahead by thousands of votes in five battleground states where President Donald Trump's team is pursuing legal action to challenge the results. The closest state, Georgia, which will hold a recount, has Biden ahead by more than 12,000 votes as of Nov. 10. A recount is unlikely to change the outcome given the current margins. Claims of widespread voter fraud have not been backed by evidence. And election law experts say voter fraud is rare and, when it happens, it typically affects a miniscule number of votes. 'FRAUD' FACT CHECKS: *No evidence that 14,000 dead people voted in Michigan. *Ballots in video of "Trump ballots" being burned is fake, city officials say. *Nine military ballots were incorrectly discarded, but it wasn't an instance of fraud —and they weren't in a ditch. *Arizona election department: Sharpies can be used on ballots. "Basically, the election is over. There isn't anything that has come out that could plausibly affect the outcome," said David Boies, who led Gore's legal team in 2000. "There's no legal avenue for the Trump campaign to plausibly dispute the results in any one state." Boies acknowledged that the Trump campaign is entitled to recounts. But, he said, "recounts are going to affect hundreds of votes, maybe. They're not going to affect thousands of votes." 'Very, very narrow' path to the U.S. Supreme Court. source: https://news.yahoo.com/why-donald-trump-isnt-al-213050765.html 1 Like |

The Nicaraguan FA, Fenifut, have clarified the situation involving Juan Barrera and his vote for Lionel Messi in FIFA's The Best awards. Barrera had claimed that he didn't vote in the awards despite FIFA's documents saying that he'd voted for Messi, the eventual winner. Instead, it was vice-captain Manuel Rosas who voted for Messi and the Nicaraguan FA have blamed the mix-up as an "istrative error." Rosas was chosen to vote in the awards by Henry Duarte, coach of the Nicaraguan national team, because he'd previously voted. "Fenitfut would like to clarify that this whole situation was a misunderstanding," the Nicaraguan FA said in a statement. Rosas voted for Messi first, then Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo in his top three for FIFA's Men's Player of the Year. Agnes Yewande Savage was born on the 21st of February, 1906 in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a Nigerian father, Richard Akinwande Savage and a Scottish mother, Maggie S. Bowie. In 1919, at the tender age of thirteen, Yewande Savage gained entrance into the Royal College of Music and was awarded a scholarship to study at George Watson’s Ladies College. Agnes Yewande Savage later studied medicine at Edinburgh University and graduated in flying colours. She was awarded the Dorothy Gilfillon Memorial Prize for the best woman graduate in 1929. She became the first Nigerian female doctor . After graduating at Edinburgh University, she worked with the colonial service in Ghana where she faced backbreaking gender and racial discrimination in her medical career. Yewande Savage was a brilliant and exceptional student but still, she was paid a meagre wage and also lived in the servants’ quarters. She later worked as a teacher and medical officer with Andrew Fraser, heaster of Achimota College, in 1931. After sometime, she returned to the Colonial Office medical service and with the help of Andrew Fraser, her wage and job benefits were pushed to an equilibrium with other white staffs. Agnes Yewande Savage later retired in 1947 and lived the rest of her life in Hertfordshire, England, looking after her brother’s son and daughter. She died in 1964. Source oldnaija.com

A foreigner'<center></center> observation about Nigerians. It's so true. We have become so materialistic that other values are no longer regarded apart from money. If you don't have money then you are nothing. If you have money and even have the worst character, people will still praise you. Same thing I thought! A house in Toronto that goes for 2.5million looks a lot better than this. Maybe it just needs a little touch up. To be sincere and frank I never knew houses in Nigeria could even cost that much. I really do want to ask an honest question though, why does this Linda inspire people? Is it because she’s a great blogger or because she has made money from blogging or because she has a nice personality or irable character? It’s just a question. I truly intend no offence. I’m Tanzanian, visited Nigeria a few times and schooled with a lot of Nigerians back in the GTA both high school and UofT. I love their vibe and they are the best people to be around BUT I notice they place so much emphasis on money and materialism. Back in the days when we were in grade 11 and 12, and we wrote essays and articles on inspiration, success and role models, Almost, infact every Nigerians’ role model was on Forbes list or some type of rich list. Their articles always had this tone of underscoring wealth and equating it to success. This character is still very much prevalent. Very different from how I was raised from preschool. Is money the only motivating factor for Nigerians? Is one only successful in your country when they have or make money no matter how legitimate or not? This was supposed to be a question but it has turned into an observation. I hope nobody gets offended, that is not my intent. I have heard of this lady a few times on some platform and the emphasis of any news concerning her is always how much she’s worth, everytime, either subtly or conspicuously, that is always apparent theme. I’m sure she does other things like volunteering and charity or some other nice civic duty that does not relate to her wealth, but that never makes for traffic in the Nigerian news sphere I guess. The get rich syndrome is what has driven so many Africans not just Nigerians to step on the faces of other Africans just to be at the top and be praised or ired for having made it. A conclusion reached when new bank s are opened. A wish her more fulfilling years as a blogger. I hope she uses her platform to get to people if she hasn’t and more people if she has. That is what I was brought up to ire as success and you really don’t need the minty coloured notes to do that. Same for we all. Wanting more is no the problem. On the contrary we all need money one way or another to survive. The problem comes in when that’s an individual’s strive in life. My comment is just what it is, my opinion. It shouldn’t be taken personally as an affront of any sort. Article Written By Ccidi RH Source ++ http://www.thenaij.com/2015/10/read-what-this-tanzanian-has-to-say.html?m=1 9 Likes 2 Shares |

One billion views on Youtube is a rare club composed of names like Justin Bieber, PSY, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and a few others. Up until about a week ago, nobody in hip-hop had reached the milestone. If you would’ve thought someone like Drake or Eminem would become first, you’d be wrong. Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’ a heartfelt tribute record for Paul Walker off Furious 7‘s soundtrack, just ed the billion views marker. To be exact, the video has 1,004,350,672 views. Congratulations to Wiz! Do you think ‘See You Again’ would have got to 10 figures if Eminem and 50 Cent had recorded the track? For $12, one man briefly owned Google. Well, he owned its domain name. In a blog post on his LinkedIn page, Sanmay Ved, a student at Babson University, detailed how he was able to purchase one of the most iconic domain names in the world for just $12. Ved was playing with Google Domains, the company's domain registration product, when he found that Google.com was available to purchase for just $12. Like any rational human being, he added the domain to his cart, clicked "proceed to checkout" and boom. Ved now owned one of the world's most visible domains. His credit card was charged and Google.com began showing up in notifications in his Google Tools, seeming to confirm his ownership of the domain. This brief moment of triumph was followed by an email from Google Domains that notified Ved of the cancellation of his purchase. Since Google owns the domain registration service Ved used, it was easily able to transfer ownership back to itself, unlike Microsoft, which wasn't immediately able to reclaim Hotmail.co.uk when a similar incident occurred in 2003. A representative for Google was not immediately available for comment. In his post, Ved says he alerted Google Security about the issue and the company acknowledged the incident. A search on Google Domains reveals that Google.com is no longer available for purchase, though Google-Idiots.com is available for $12, if that interests you for any particular reason. Ved is currently an MBA student at Babson College, outside of Boston, but he previously worked for Google from 2007-2012 according to his LinkedIn profile. Generally, large websites, like Google, automatically renew their domains to prevent a situation like this from happening. It's possible that Google didn't automatically renew its domain, but it seems more likely that a bug in the system let Ved the domain. While Ved wasn't able to further prank Google, for a glorious moment, he owned the domain for the most popular website on the planet. Godspeed, Sanmay Ved. Social Media went crazy after Peter Okoye, one half of the super singing duo P-Square, responded on twitter to a complaint from a fan regarding the absence of their content on Tv Music Channel Soundcity Tv. Check the below Tweets from peter and a detailed response from Soundcity TV in what looks like a disagreement that has been silently ongoing for the past 8-9 months. So Peter replied a fan’s comment on twitter some hours back: And then went on to tweet the next few screenshots. . . Soundcity didn’t waste much time with a response, they posted a detailed of why they have not played any P-Square content since 1st January 2015 in a write up posted on their website. WOW! For 10 Years, @SoundcityTV has been a huge er of #PSquare and the #PSquare brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on @SoundcityTV than any other music channel. @SoundcityTV viewers sometimes complain about the dominance of #PSquare videos on the channel & charts. We were a huge er and gave everything to their works. We have assisted the #PSquare brand, toured with them over Africa at our expense. Gave them ad- spots for their events / projects. Gave them prime time slots for their videos and included them in our array of Programmes / programming. We invited #PSquare to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money. We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer?; this was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in #PSquare’s career as music talents / artistes & entertainers. The was, “WHAT HAS SOUNDCITY EVER DONE FOR PSQUARE? TELL ME ONE THING SOUNDCITY HAS EVER DONE FOR PSQUARE” (Jude Okoye, Manager). While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for #PSquare was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We decided to stop ‘doing anything’ with/for #PSquare, since our 10years of ing the group meant nothing to them. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided. Ultimately, #PSquare music videos stopped airing on @SoundcityTV since January 01, 2015. Soundcity reserves the right to air music videos on our cable / satellite or terrestrial platforms. Overall, we wish the duo the best in their endeavours. @SoundcityTV will keep airing works of the best and Nigerian artistes, and also, the best #African artistes to the world, especially nurturing their talents from inception till they become huge megastars and international superstars. Thank you.” What do you guys think? Who’s in the wrong? http://www.thenaij.com/2015/09/p-square-goes-to-war-with-soundcity-tv.html?m=1 |
