Hi guys, I go by the Pseudonym Africandaemon. A scientist, cosmologist, python developer, and software developer. I am trying to generate a bunch of ideas and suggestions on how interest in science can be reinforced and rejuvenated in Nigeria. I have tried creating a blog where you can ask any science-related question and get a response within 3 days. But I need more innovative suggestions; perhaps something someone has in mind that may work and can be turned into a software or technology solution to have a life of its own. Hardly has there been a nation in the world that thrives without soaring on the wings of science, and it is our prime duty to put Africa on a journey as well. It may not get us to immediately take a position in the Olympus of tech, but we'd sure be on a journey of our lives, meaningfully. So guys, enough talk, let's throw in suggestions. Would keep everyone in the loop as soon as we settle for one and start development. Ad astra

Your submission is correct and your friend's wrong. Einstein's Special theory of relativity clarifies the issue--the speed of light is the same for all observer i.e 3*10^8 m/s. This means there's a speed limit, it's not instantaneous! Light travels roughly 300000km per second. But there is 151 million in between Earth and Sun, hence when we divide 151 million by 300000, we get 503.33 seconds light takes to go from Sun to Earth. Convert seconds to minutes gives ~8 minutes. Perhaps this would help your friend Highlighted is for TL;DR 3 Likes |

Lantern is a platform formed to bring mathematicians together to earn money solving Math problems and researches. From handling Math-based projects (Uni Level) to problem sets and home-works, once ed on the group, you can earn from your knowledge. There are a few requirements though. 1. You are a good mathematician (preferably a degree in Math, Phys, or Stats) 2. You are proficient with MS Word and Excel (Because you'd have to type out your solutions) 3. You should be able to meet deadlines 4. You should have a bank How Lantern Math Works * the phone number below on whatsapp stating your name and why you are reaching out * If accepted, get added to the group * When problems come, group would be ed based on area of strength * If awarded the project, you work on it/them and get paid afterwards. It's that Easy This may not be a full-time job, but can be a very useful side-job for intelligent mathematicians. Hi, If like me, you have searched for a group of likeminded scientists. People discussing the future of Africa and the world, folks interested in the laws of physics and how they can contribute to them, those whose dreams reach to the stars and back--the Einsteins and Newtons of this continent. Maybe its time to drop your torches, you found it. Jump in here. Its a whatsapp group where you are free to massage your curiosities, ask questions, answer some, get critiqued constructively, talk the Big Bang and Artificial intelligence. Think not what your country can do for you, rather ponder what you can do for your country. Perhaps we can reach Mars before the United States does so. We are looking at collaborating in a PolyMath project soon on a topic of choice. Hop in this moving train folks. I would have pasted the whatsapp group link here, but some folks get in and spam the participants, so Message me on: 09026083246 and I'll add you up

Hi guys, It takes 0.4 seconds to get a reader to decide whether to finish an article or not; it might also take 70. I have been a writer for 6 years now, and know what it takes to get readers asking for me before in no time. Writing is my trade and if I know anything well enough, its my onions. I have written books and articles published across several platforms from book clubs to medium and blogs. me for samples of my work: 09026083246 (WhatsApp) 1 Like |

Hi, Everyone (or many people...) knows that freelancing (whether writing or web development) is one of the most lucrative jobs to do, especially for countries with high rate unemployment, but it comes with its own challenges as well. And of most freelance platforms like fiverr, iwriter, freelancer.com, and the rest, upwork (in my opinion offers more juicier opportunities to scale and make a fortune); am sure there are testifiers here on nairaland. So as a freelancer, it is a great entrepreneural sprint to consider managing an upwork of your own. Some benefits of working on upwork 1. It's a perfect work-from-home platform. I've seen people who bought cars from their upwork earnings working from the comfort of their homes, in their boxers, on the comfort of their beds. I don't need to work for anyone. My earnings will cripple what some government workers make. Plus, it gives me time to serve God. I can go for any service I want at any time I want to knowing that I can come back to work early in the morning 2. You deal with Americans or foreigners who at least know the value of your skill. When I deal with foreign clients, I charge between 5 to $10 for 500 words (that's like 3600 for 500 words) but in Naija, some clients can price you for N500 for 1000 words. hehe The best part of it is, you earn in dollars and this has a higher return when you convert it to naira. 3. Jobs are constant and consistent on upwork Every ten seconds a job is ed on upwork. Lots and lots of jobs are availble for the freelancer to bid for. You are only hindered by how good you are or not in sending proposals and getting jobs. The only disadvantage of upwork is: Opening an can be very tasking. Infact, 9 out of 10 s from Nigerians are rejected if you don't know how to answer their registration questions. It might not be so easy creating an and getting it approved too (those that have tried know best). Thats where I come in. I will create an approved upwork for you with your details, nature of job, and all. You just get it and start proposing for jobs. Umm... maybe needless to say, if you know your onions, the rest would eventually be smooth for you and you can earn as much as you can plan for. Just in case you don't trust us, you can make payment after the approval and set up. Whatsapp only: 09026083246

It is true that science and technology are the principal vehicles upon which major economies of the world thrive. From Russia to China , the UK and America, science has proven to be an engine capable to driving revenue growth and improved living standards. African science has been undergoing a steady growth from advances in telecommunications to agriculture and space science. But there is no doubt a huge vacuum to be filled in the quality, depth, and volume of research outputs from the continent. As at 2015, Africa produced less than 2% of global scientific research products; a red flag on matters of science, technology, and innovation. A lot of pioneering efforts to improve the status quo have been emerging from indigenous Africans, as well as immense from the World Bank and other countries. There has been s and interventions from countries like China, , and the US. But in recent times, China has been a major pillar of funding among the rest, including the U.S. https://www.africansciencepost.com/a-report-on-chinese-investments-towards-the-growth-of-african-science/

People now feel "seevia pains" over a well-meaning bank alert. Am impressed, there's hope for Nigeria... with this spirit, corruption might not last one more decade!

Ephramed: Hi man. You might want to consider handling freelance gigs on fiverr. Its a great way to keep developing yourself while getting paid. Plus, it affords you the independence you deserve for all your efforts. Trust me, the skills you possess are in high demand, and you are 2.4 times likelier to enjoy a successful freelancing career than most average guys. In all, have fun exploring! 4 Likes |

Jarus: Interesting perspective, remarkable. But then I have a thought on this: "Personally, I believe the eventual winner going whole hog on deregulation will not be a bad idea" Don't you think deregulation is risky? That it has more tendencies, especially in an economy like ours, of creating an uncertain long-term policy environment and undermines public trust? PS: I like your style of writing. 2 Likes |

Great thoughts man. There can hardly be a better reform in the sector more significant than diluting the power of the petroleum minister. Jarus: 1 Like |

Opzyyy: I would go with big4 without much considerations; except we are talking about investment banks (like Rand and the top ones). Working with the big4 gives you a platform to move on to other industries if you wish and even to the bank at a later time and as an experienced hire. Then you would still be very valuable at your age in Nigeria. My opinion though ![]() 5 Likes |

To all those who have seen their invites, congrats but do not forget its still a stiff competition ahead; and to those who haven't, stay hopeful. Not all journeys go through the same route; don't be broken-spirited. With persistence, it always ends in glory.
