I believe that turning the AC off gives the airplane more power for take off, especially if the plane has a faulty Auxiliary Power Unit or for some other reason It is out of use. The main power for Air-conditioning is drawn off a bleed compressor line that is usually only active during flight.

What these airlines should do is to minimize the amount of time taken to board and depart If they are looking to save energy or fuel by not running an APU for the air conditioning on the ground.

When the plane takes off and you're left with no air conditioning, that is when you should really begin to worry. Albeit, it may be too late then.

However, for some strange reason, this whole hot plane during boarding is saldy common practice for many Nigerian airlines.

The Army must release visual confirmation of the crash site if they want to truly discredit the boko haram video.

But then again, this istration has a penchant for lies and propaganda.

First of all a modern military jet is incredibly loud. Trust me if it is sweeping overhead you hear it

If it is strafing you, you will film it, even if it is to make a propaganda film with stirring music to show you survived the onslaught. ISIS did this all the time to bolster morale.

That a few clueless idiots may have tried to shot at it is a given. By chance it suffered mechanical failure, went down as they filmed the attack. The insurgents quickly tracked it to where went down and claim they shot it down.

Its makes for great propaganda and certainly has you worried. But the chances of that being true are low, unless Boko has SAM capability which they havent shown before..

Like I said lets calm down. Even a stray bird sucked into the jet engine can cause engine failure, which is possible if the plane is flying low..

Sure planes can fall out of the sky due to a gazillion reasons.

But this coincidence you're insinuating is way too convenient.

Mechanical failure in a complex machine like a jet can occur very suddenly that the pilot has little time to react. The idea of effective real time communication in Nigeria is laughable.

Please read my post that mentions the downing of a Jordanian jet over Syria. The exact same scenario played out.

Look I was educated in England and wanted to be a Tornado pilot. I studied heavily, but failed on of bad eyesight and a poor spot test performance.

The likelihood of the jet having been downed by Boko Haram is virtually zero..

Both scenarios are very probable.

But in light of the currently available evidence and facts now, it's much easier to believe that BH shot that plane down than it suffered a mechanical failure.
Real time communication? Aren't jets in constant communication with their base? Do they just hover blind?

They were merely filming it and attempting to shoot it down, which unless they had surface to air missiles would have been unsuccessful. As they were filming the plane suffered mechanical failure.

The Taliban who managed to oust advanced soviet forces mainly managed to shot down hind helicopters and not jets. They were armed with shoulder fired surface to air missiles supplied by the CIA.

Al-shabab managed to knock out helicopters but never jet fighters with the use of RPGs.

As a kid I loved military technology so I am well versed in military history.

This sort of propaganda has form. Muath Safi Yousef al-Kasasbeh a Jordanian pilot whose plane crashed over the then islamic state was claimed by Isis. Again they had footage, but analysis showed the plane suffered mechanical failure.

The only successful downing of a advanced jet by a native insurgent army was in the former Yugoslavia, where an advanced F117A stealth jet was shot down. But in this case again, a soviet era SAM battery (Surface to Air missile array) was involved.

Lets be clear, there have been no recorded cases of a jet being downed by merely machine gun fire or RPGs in the modern era.

As a fellow Nigerian, we both know our people dont have a strong maintenance culture, which makes mechanical failure even more plausible..

So, let me get something straight, Bokoharam films every jet that flies over them for entertainment?

Then this jet that 'suddenly' lost Comms with the tower happened to go down without a single mayday call just as Bokoharam were shooting a season film in the forest?

Mechanical failure nothing more..

Boko boys went to the crash site and claim they downed it...

Calm down everyone

Highly unlikely. The jet must have reported to the comm tower if they had engine issues.

It suddenly lost and these terrorists have video 'evidence' of when they actually downed the ill-fated jet. It's almost like they were actually prepared to shoot it down.

You are making my point. That's why it's a quasi ban. Unless you misconstrued the meaning of quasi.

Oh yes, I see your point.

But there are ways around it. If you're keen enough to drive that car.

That's a quasi ban. It's like telling me i can buy a car, but can't drive it.
No it isn't. It's like saying, you can buy a car, but just don't drive it in any official road.

You still have bushes, forests, off-trails, villages and the desert to drive it in.

Crypto was never banned.

Most Nigerians cannot read, assimilate what they've read and understand it. People just follow the popular narrative if it suits their agenda, it usually does.

Nothing has changed. All CBN said was don't transact crypto through the formal banking sector.

Just watch how because of this lonewolf incidence, Nigerians will come out to say Nigerians are the most intelligent in the world.. We too like hyping ourselves. I can't forget an argument I had with someone claiming Nigeria has the best army in the world.. I was like wtf!. Where do these clowns get their misinformation from.

Back to the topic, competitions like these, you don't expect attendance. Those Ivy league schools don't get time for such and even if they do, they just send some of their less serious students to attend. Nigerians on the other hands will send the best of the best to compete and at the end of the day start beating their chest over mediocrity.

You made sense....but only to a small extent.

True, despite having achieved a great feat, she is the anomaly and not the norm.

Our education system is nothing to write home about, and for every genius there are a thousand academically poor students.

However, don't rain on the girl's parade by alleging that other competitors didn't come with their best contestants.

She won because she was the best of the rest.

Congratulations to her for doing Nigeria proud.

The other day, I realised that there's a 50 naira tax on electronic transactions. Something called "electronic transfer levy."

The amount of ridiculous taxes that the ordinary Nigerians has to put up with is killing. This is in an oil rich country where millions are syphoned daily

The worst part is that these taxed money don't end up contributing to anything meaningful.

Are we taxing people to keep running our ludicrously expensive government?

So, politicians can just loot uncontrollably and then begin to tax the masses once their source of stealing ceases to flow?

Eventually, the citizens bear the brunt of their own docility and refusal to have a say in the affairs of their own country.

Nigerians, wake up!!!
