Facts that call for sober reflection:akwa ibom state produces the highest quantity of oil in nigeria(qua iboe) and its also the most peaceful in the entire ND region. The present day rivers state was created in the 1996,after many riverine(ijoid) communities were given out to form bayelsa state,and some upland communities from east central states(south east) included to form our present day rivers state. Rivers state,"the treasure base of the nation" as we love to call our dear state has faced many problems in the past under the then ijoid rule hence after the creation of bayelsa state,most riverians thought that peace and security has finally returned to rivers state but posterity proved us wrong. Many of our problems in rivers has its roots to the deep moral and societal decadence in our communites and ofcourse lack of cohesion,most upland and igboid groups in the state has lost its roots. The discovery of oil and federal government idea of lumping up oil producing communities to form rivers state(whether ijoid or igboid) has been the major contributing factors. Violence,crime,cultism has taken over communities,igbo/igboid and ikwerre communities(upland) has been the most hit,places like; omoku,ahoada,ogbogoro,chokochoko,elele etc. However there are areas that offer insight to how peace can be restored in rivers,my own lga(oyigbo) has some lessons for other communities,three local councils in rivers state has remained relatively peacefull,etche,omuma and oyigbo lga's are now some of the few relatively peacefull regions in rivers state. How did this happen? We must go back to communual living and embrace our virtues which are fast elluding us. We must shun our politicians with their "rivers man" attitudes that has no bearing in our various regions whether igboid/ikwerre,kalabari/okrika,ogoni areas of our state. States like akwa ibom with their huge oil resources are still very peaceful and tourism friendly even northen delta state(asaba,ibuza,ogwashi,kwale etc) has also been peaceful. Ikwerre,ndoni,ogba,etche,ndoki,epkeye etc its time we unite and embrace our roots to foster peace in rivers state and indeed the niger delta... . . What is happening in some areas of rivers state is really shameful

Some people do not even know the contestants for tomorrow's Legislative re-run election in Rivers, all they hear is Wike and Amaechi. This is really sad.
