I could literally feel your pain from just reading the last line you wrote. Sorry about the denial and I pray your next trial will be an approval story. I'm curious about your profile since you're an undergraduate applicant...are you fresh out of secondary school?

Not Fresh. 2017 Grad.

Interview Slated for 10am but went 6am and got interviewed around 9am. The VO was denying so many B1/B2 and only gave just two people(One is a woman with her 2children and husband and she looks and sounds like she knows what she's doing). There were only few F1 VISA and I think I was the second or third F1 to be interviewed.
VO was a white guy, looks like he's in his 30s. Has a skinny head and looks fresh. He's the only person available for all NON-Immigrant Visas that morning. He was at window 1.
School: WIU
COA: 33k
DEFICIT: 26k
SCHOLARSHIP: 7K
FAMILY FUND: 43K
Programme: Biochemistry (Bachelor)
Interview was at Lagos.

VO: Good morning, your I-20 and port please.
Me: ed and said I stammer a bit
VO: It's fine, don't worry.
VO: Why are you going to the US and what course will you be studying.
Me: I'm going to the US for my bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. I will be majoring in Biochemistry at Western Illinois University.
VO: Kept looking at my I-20
Me: I guess he was confused Chemistry was on my I-20 and I'm going for Biochemistry. So I cut in and said my school actually put the course on my I-20 as Chemistry, but it's Biochemistry I will be Majoring in.
VO: Nods head like "okay, I understand now"
VO: Why this School?
Me: The biochemistry programme at Western Illinois University has an added concentration on Molecular diseases. The programme also provide undergraduate research opportunity for undergraduates which is an added advantage for me as I will be furthering my degree as a Clinical Scientist.
VO: Was staring hard at my I-20 and said, this is about One hundred and something...(didn't hear clearly, but knew he was referring to my tuition or COA), who will be paying this huge amount of money for your Education.
Me: I have a merit scholarship that covers about half my tuition and my mum will pay the rest.
VO: What does your mum do? me
Me: She owns a Private Primary School which she founded 15years ago. She also runs a Palm oil Plantation business...VO cuts in
VO: What did you say... about Palm oil?(looks confused)
Me: Palm oil Plantation business. I further explained with gestures that Palm trees grown in farm and harvested to produce palm oil....she supplies to the whole Western part of Nig...Vo cuts in
VO: He was looking at his screen then asked; Do you have a sister in the US(or maybe he said outside the country)?
Me: (I thought he was referring to my other siblings and that is a No. Although, I have an elder sister in another country, but she's never been to the US. I also filled in my DS-160 that I have other relatives in the US and that is my Dad's step sister, we bare thesame surname) So, I said No straight up. I was further saying I'm the last born...then cuts me and asked
VO: Have you travelled outside the country before?
Me: I've never had a reason to.
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: I applied to four schools which includes Western Illinois University, Georgetown Southwestern University, University of Lynchburg, and Southern Illinois University and they all have me ission.
VO: Sorry, you are not qualify for this Visa...es blue slip and...Omo...I just felt so disorganized and felt like I had something to tell him that I can no more. Painful oh.

That's why he asked if there are no other ways of saying that.
It doesn't have to be my uncle works in Bleep company and has real estate in Bleep where he owns Bleep properties. It's a common line.
I've observed as well.

Imo, you could say, my uncle works in Bleep company and earns Bleep annually. 40% of his earnings are from his company and 60% from family's Housing Business.

Muleriders:

What if the uncles are actually into real estate?

Visa approved, 5th attempt, Lagos, 2nd Nov 2021.

Before I share my story, I will like to say just a few things. My interview was scheduled for 11am but I got there few minutes to 10am (Lagos and Traffic). When I got to the premises, those “opportunist” were trying to milk me. They took me to a shop saying I have to arrange my documents in a certain way. I told them I have the right documents and they are already arranged accordingly. They said the picture I have on my DS 160 confirmation page is different from the hard copy port photograph I had, and I will have to take a new photograph. I didn’t oblige and I insisted I will use it like that. They said I have to photocopy the data page of my port and take it in else, I will be sent back. I told them that, this isn’t my first time here and I have never heard of such before. The guy gave up on me and left.
It is very important to have your complete documents and arrange them appropriately so you don’t end up getting scammed by those guys. They will say many things to you but don’t pay attention.
There was no crowd at the Lagos Embassy today, and I noticed that they have made some remarkable changes (I am not quite sure if they relocated to another floor or just renovated the place. But whatever the case may be, it looks entirely different from the last time I visited in Nov 2020). There were lots of approvals from a particular white guy with tattoos and piercings. You could win his heart if you are very confident, chatty and have a good sense of humor (People he denied gave only one word reply and they stuttered a bit).

TRANSCRIPT
Me: Good morning Sir (with a big smile on my face)
VO: Goodmorning. Please me your port and I-20

Me: Sorry, I am very nervous Sir (I said this while ing my documents to him)
Vo: Oh don’t worry, It’s Ok, I understand. So I can see you are going to Middle Tennessee State University to study Information Technology?
Me: Yes, that is very correct.

VO: What is your latest certification/degree?
Me: I had my first degree in Information and Communication Engineering from xyz University, I graduated in July 2018.

VO: That’s your undergraduate study right?
Me: Yes, it is.

VO: What have you been doing since then?
Me: Oh after my undergraduate studies, I went for the compulsory NYSC program, where I served as a Software Analyst at XYZ limited after which I got a job at XYZ. I am working as an Information Technology Auditor and I have been with them for 2 years.

VO: How did you know about MTSU?
Me: MTSU was first recommended to me by my supervisor at work, Mr. John Pink and I furthered my research by ing my program advisor, Dr. Amy, to know more about the course curriculum.

VO: Why MTSU?
Me: MTSU offers one of the best course curriculum in the US. The university offers an additional certification in advance data analytics and visualization. Also, the course curriculum perfectly aligns with my career goal and it will provide me with the advanced knowledge and hands on experience I critically need to implement a decision system in my department on my return to Nigeria. This system will collect business data, analyze it and transform it into useful business intelligence thereby providing solutions to complex business problems.
In addition, I have a high CGPA of 3.64/4.0, and MTSU was kind enough to offer me 23% off my cost of attendance

VO: Great! Who will be sponsoring you?
Me: My Dad! He is a professor at xyz university and an established business man. He owns a logistics company that is into transportation of petroleum products within Nigeria. He has operations in Bauchi, Warri, Edo and Akwa Ibom. Presently, he has an average number of 25 staffs in those operations

VO: (He kept on nodding his head and seemed impressed) How many siblings do you have?
Me: I have 2 elder brothers who are married, and a younger sister studying law in the university of xyz.

VO: Did your elder brothers study in the US?
Me: No they didn’t but the 2nd studied in UK and he is back in Nigeria and married.

VO: He was sponsored by your Dad too?
Me: Yes Sir, he was.

VO: Awesome! So what’s your plan after the completion of your Master’s degree in the US?
Me: Oh in the organization I currently work, we have been working on quite a number of projects and proposal which are targeted at the top organizations in the technology industry. By next year, we will be sealing the deals and we will be starting the Information Technology audit the year after. I want to be at the center of this massive growth so after the completion of my degree, I will be returning back to my organization and get integrated into the process. The decision system I plan on implementing will also be tested in the IT environment of those organizations.
VO: (he kept on nodding his head) I can see the course is for 2 years, what are you going to be doing when you leave them? Why do you still wanna come back?
Me: (I smiled) Oh no, I am not leaving them. I am only going on study leave for 2 years after which I will be back to even take on a higher role. I have a letter to that effect Sir, and it is here with me.

VO: Oh don’t worry… Ok so what if you get OPT and most likely get a job?
ME: (We both laughed) and I said no Sir, I really want to be involved in the project going on in my organization on my return and the decision system I plan on implementing, won’t be done if I remain in the US. I would love to come back.

VO: But what if it is a job that will be paying way higher than what you are currently earning? Won’t you take the job? I mean, it will be a good thing to be paid that high and just enjoy yourself
Me: (We both laughed again) Sir, the organization I currently work is a multinational firm and we have presence in over 167 countries. I have a dream to become the youngest and first female audit partner in the organization and I can’t achieve this if I remain in the US or accept a job there. It will be a dream come true if I am given the opportunity to study in the US as it will be a step to achieving my dreams.

VO: (He kept on nodding his head and was impressed). Ok I noticed you have been using a particular school for your prior applications and you are switching to MTSU. Why is that?
Me: Oh that is very correct Sir, I applied to WIU but switched to MTSU because the masters in IT program offered in MTSU comes with an additional certification in advance data analytics and visualizing which will provide the hands experience I critically need to implement a decision system on my return to Nigeria.

VO: (He smiled and started typing for a long while)

Me: (The silence was becoming sickening so I decided to complement his tattoos and ear piercings) I so much love your piercings and tattoos did you get it done in Nigeria or the US?
VO: (He stopped typing and looked at me laughing) Thank you! I got this particular tattoo in xx country, this one was done in xx country and this was done when I travelled to xx country. I travel a lot.
Me: (We both laughed) I love tattoos but I am scared of the needles and the pain I would have to through.
VO: hahaha the pain is only for a moment. Congratulations, I will be approving your visa blah blah blah.
I was speechless and suddenly turned deaf.
Me: Thank you very much Sir, you made my day!

So guys here are a few tips;
1. Pray like you’ve never prepared, and prepare like you’ve never prayed. You have to trust God with all your heart and commit your ways unto him. My approval today was purely by His Grace. I kept on confessing positive things, and calling my visa into existence while fasting and praying.
2. Don’t listen to what people say. I was told they hardly approve visa in Lagos. I was told there are always few approvals for those going for spring entry. I was told that once you have been delayed, it becomes difficult to get an approval. I was asked to give up and probably try other countries. But, all these didn’t stop me. I only focused my heart, ears and mind to what God said in the bible regarding victory and I stood by that word.
3. There is no “One answer fits all”, you have to be unique and stand out. You have to speak with ion, You have to be confident and you must first believe in your heart to get the approval. Anything is possible if you believe!!
WHAT GOD CANNOT DO, DOES NOT EXIST.

Could you share your previously rejected transcript?
Reasons could be there.

Sun1shyne:
My visa was refused at Abuja embassy on 29th October.

We exchanged greetings and he asked for my document (port and co) I ed it, he then kept it aside.
Looking at the system, he asked if I had ever traveled outside of Nigeria, I said No, I haven't had any reason to. I was looking at him and smiling, but he wasn't even smiling back.

Second question (still haven't touched my document), do you have any relative in the US?
I said no i don't

He then picked up my port and brought out my I-20. Who is gonna pay for your deficit?
My dad is going to take care of that

What does your dad do?
He is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at a federal teaching hospital in xx state

What do you do here in Nigeria?
I work as a Nutrition advisor with xx Nigeria Plc

Thank you for coming. Unfortunately, you do not qualify.....

What could be wrong?

Please I want to re-apply. My school resumes in January.
Someone is suggesting I select regular instead of previously refused when scheduling another appointment, and I'd like to know if that doesn't matter. Has it worked for anyone please or does it have consequence?

Your financial would be very important since most undergrad programs take at least 3 years to complete. That should be your major concern. You can easily choose any school based on how you like the program there.

My financial is capable for my first year with extra $10k available after first year if I chose to go for WIU. I may apply for full scholarship to another uni through transfer once I finish my first year at WIU.
Course is Biochemistry.

Hello everyone here,
Been a while.

So I applied to 4 schools for undergrad and all gave me ission but only 3 gave partial scholarships for undergraduate studies.

Southwestern University: deficit 40k after Scholarship
Western Illinois University: deficit 23k after scholarship
University of Lynchburg. Deficit 33k after Scholarship

I already provided neccessary documents to all for I-20 processing.
...but I want to ask from the experienced guys here, please, which of these three schools I-20 do you suggest I use for my Visa application?

I want a school that will be a plus for me during the interview and will reduce unneccssary fouls.

Thanks.

You asking for a "way to go about it" when you know you do not possess the required bank statement is a scam in its own right. Spend more time thinking of your own attempt to scam the visa process than others trying to scam you.

I'd reconsider and take the necessary steps.
It's not worth spending time explaining myself to you since you'd take every question and comment south.
Thanks

HOW TO WRITE A STRONG SOP.

Use Google to find samples to read, but don't copy another student SOP content. You are to create your own, which is why it is called Personal Statement.

1, The First paragraph should have a powerful opening. As a writer myself, the first impression matters when you're writing. If you open the SOP with shallow words, phrase or idea, you may disinterest the person assessing it from the beginning. Your first paragraph should wield strong words about your view concerning the program you want to study. There are many ways to do this. Some students start with talking about what they think about the field in general, some start with their childhood dreams and link it with why they want this degree. Personally, I recommend starting with a personal philosophy then link it to why an advanced degree is important to the next phase of your career and what you'd like to do with this career. So, make sure your first paragraph is strong, well written and concise.

2. Talk about your current academic and work background and their relationship with what you want to study or why it is essential for progress in the field. I have seen SOPs that even mentioned few courses taken during undergraduate in order to show to the ission committee reviewing the application that they have a foundation for success in the program they want to be itted for.

3. Is your program a research program? If yes, what do you want to research on and why?

4. Why this school? What do they offer that makes it stand out from more than 3000 other universities offering the same course or even better course, in the US? Really, why this school? If you are one of the people who pick up schools from people's approved visa transcript here, then you must do a proper homework by visiting the school website, the program department website, course structure, option for concentrations, etc. If you do this, you'd certainly find more than 3 reasons you want to study at this school you're writing this SOP for. Make sure you mention the school name in this paragraph. It is always better!

5. You are from a developing country, with diverse and rich cultural background, experiences that are unique to you. What are you bring to the school table? Why should they offer you ission? Why should they offer you assistantship (in case you'd be applying and you want to mention it)? Make strong points on these, then include it.

NOTE: There is no one fits all SOP. There is also no single way to write SOP. We all tell our stories differently! In fact, it must be unique and express your intentions for the next phase of your career, your academic goals, and so on. The word limit would also determine the contents you pour in. If you are applying to Tier 1, 2, 3 schools or Ivy League, make sure you put your best in the SOP. For top schools, your SOP is more important than the GPA benchmark they are using for ission. You will have competitors with the same GPA, but you can have a competitive edge over them and wow with your SOP that you are the real deal (in case you are applying to highly competitive schools).
Use strong vocabulary; show the school you are a unique student with value. If you have not been writing, you will need to take out time to achieve this.

A, create the first draft.
B, let it sit for some hours, then go back to adjust it.
C, remove the cluster and begin to rewrite.
D, let it sit again for a day or so.
E, pick it up and finish what you started for good.
(Share the SOP with knowledgeable friends. If you follow these instructions, you should get in, provided your GPA meets the requirement and you submit your application early).

FYI: this is for all applicants aiming at writing a strong SOP for fall 2021 and beyond. With this, I hope nobody will ask how they can write their SOP. Now you know how to. cheesy
All the best.

Massive.

Thanks

Well, I think first off, you sounded like "I just wanna leave this country". These are my pointers:
1. I really didn't care about the school, I just got it because someone there liked me and I got funding from it. Tip: Your reason for choosing the school can be a stronger point.

2. I don't have any money of my own, I'm going to live off donations and hand me downs. You didn't have to mention that even your living expenses is on them.... That's a red flag. Sounds like you can't foot the bill for even your meals Tip: Even if you have a fully funded scholarship, it's wise to show that you can foot the bills for other expenses as they arise.

3. But not itted bit, totally unnecessary Tip: Sell yourself, make yourself desirable. Don't sound like nobody wants me, I was just lucky to get this.

4. Gre score was okay. Tip: try a different technique next time, state score for each section before adding it up

5. A Lagos based NGO? Seriously. Wrong description. Tip: A Lagos based organisation committed to helping Nigerians bla bla bla. You can even further link it to your course (that's another reason I opted for this course, to come back and help the organization I work to xyz)

6. Package yourself better. It's an art and a science and of course, show home ties and a stronger ion.

Best of luck in your next application.
