Day 13 Zero Mortality (405 chicks)

Same as yesterday, only water was given to the birds.

Note: The chicks would have to be separated soonest. The new space isn't big enough for them any longer. I will definitely have to split them into 202/203 after tomorrow's Vaccination (1st Lasota)

Day 11 Zero Mortality

Happy Sunday to all.
Continuation of the anticocci treatment is still on. In my case, I am using Diclazor. 1ml to 4litrs of water and a little addition of multivitamins.

The Birds are doing excellently fine.

jidestroud(m): 3:53pm On Jan 13, 2024
. . . Aye!!! A preferred alternative would also be Embazin forte. I so much love that anticocci drug ehn (sorry for the PR).
An appropriate dosage such be used along side with multivitamins to help the chicks since they are still very young.

Day 10 Zero Mortality (405 chicks)

I will be treating them against cocci. The anticocci used is a liquid based one. This would be continued on Day 11 too.

Step 4
Remove the scales, intestines and bile. Rinse and there you have your meat to ready to be used to Prepare your soup or meat.

ADDITIONAL INFO: The turtle has 4 major parts after dissecting it.

jidestroud(m): 1:47pm On Jan 11, 2024
Step 3
Use the cutlass to crack the edges.
Put a pot of water on fire, place the cut off head of turtles in it and boil for about 20mins. This makes pulling the meat from the shell easy.

jidestroud(m): 1:38pm On Jan 11, 2024
Step 2
After washing, turn it upside down, get a sharp knife or cutlass (a cutting tool of your choice) and a plier or something to hold onto its head to easy cutting.
Once you pin the head down, simple cut it off and allow the blood to drain.

NOTE: You may need an hot object to place on the flat plate. This forces the Turtle to bring out its head.

jidestroud(m): 1:31pm On Jan 11, 2024
Step 1
Wash the Turtle very well to remove dirt from the body.

Please Note: Be careful not to put your finger in the opening around the head so it doesn't snap on your finger. It could be very painful.

jidestroud(m): 1:24pm On Jan 11, 2024
This happens to be my special way of preparing Turtles. Walahi, turtle meat sweet die... grin

Fortunately, 5 swamp turtles would be used to Prepare;
1. Egusi soup (melon soup)
2. Peppersoup
3. Fried stew

... other activities for the day includes; cleaning up their brooder room to reduce the amount of poop which could lead to ammonia gas build-up.
Moreover, I should be visiting Alaba International Market to see if i can get a digital scale to help monitor growth.

Day 6 Zero Mortality...

Stopped the Antibiotics but continued with the multivitamins (Vitaminolyte in my case). Prepping them for their first vaccination in two days time.

Everything looked fine and the birds are doing just fantabulous. More and more true feathers are visible now.

As a beginner, between broilers and layers, which one is advisable to start with?

My personal opinion if you asked me would be Broilers. Trust me, with layers, it could get boring and tiring after awhile. Broilers gives immediate results which further encourages you.

You have adequate technical knowledge to be an instituition. When will these rxperiments end ? When will you take up a few product ideas and establish a big factory out of it. Isnt this better than experimenting here and there year after year?
Hmmm... thought provoking criticism. Point well noted. Thanks for the observation.

Like I earlier mentioned, I doubted the place would hold 400 chicks in a week's time. I Was able to move 100 chicks to a refuge camp pending their brooder room will be ready. grin.

(Such a tasking Sunday... cry )

is not the use of tylodox enough for 3 days?these are pullets not broilers, why not switch to ordinary water for some days then multivitamins, those birds are more stronger than broilers the one major cause of heartbreaking mortality in young pullets is gumboro disease, very deadly, pls vaccinate regularly,
Thanks for the observation. I'm using a variation chart of Amo's Farms. Moreover, istering Antibiotics from Day 2 to Day 5 is very well acceptable in pullets brooding.
