I'm on Alberta Student Aid but studying in Ontario. My classmates on OSAP have way more grant than I do. In fact, Alberta did not give me any grant. The little grant I get is from the federal government.

I don't know about point 1 i.e. student loans and stuffs like that, but point 2 is absolutely spot on.

I don't see any confusion here because what Nigerians call circumcision is carried out as FGM. That is the reality on ground. Unfortunately "circumcision" here is carried out by unskilled and unprofessional people who don't even understand anatomy.
Some females are lucky and don't get severely mutilated. Some are not so lucky.
I do not any form of "circumcision", be it hoodectomy, clitoridectomy, excision or FGM.
abdullahi45:
I see that people are really confusing circumcision with female genital mutilation (FGM). Circumcision which I know is just hoodectomy, which is the removal of the clit prepuce, just like removing the pen*s prepuce, that is safe and doesn't pose any health threat or result in reduced sexuality. Although, there is no enough evidence to prove that it reduces the risk of STDs, it is well known to prevent hypersexuality in female.
FGM on the other hand is demonic and repugnant, and could make a lady become hyposexual and frigid. FGM is an umbrella term for clitoridectomy, excision and infibulation. Clitoridectomy involves the partial or complete removal of the clit. Excision involves the removal of the clit, in addition to the excision of the labia minora. The worst case is infibulation, which involves the excision of clit, labia minors and majors, and partial closure of the vag*na.
So, Op, if your wife was only circumcised, and not genitally mutilated, then there is no problem, you just have to delve into each other's sexual world and harness whatever makes it more enjoyable for you two.
God bless.

They actually do enjoy it, especially my mum who has arthritis. It's quite stressful getting around these big airports on their own. They've done it before and are quite grateful for the option of being "chauffeured" around.
19CannyMum:
This is a brilliant idea. Do they actually have to sit in the wheelchair? Or they can just walk beside the assistant.
Because I can imagine naija parents being like "you want to turn me to paralysed person"

I usually request wheelchair assistance for my parents, this ensures that they are not left to sort out things themselves. Also, it can be stressful for them walking from one boarding gate to another.
toboy:
Greetings everyone,
Please is anyone coming to Canada with the Turkish Airlines 626 flight leaving on 24th Oct? I have my Mum traveling to Canada for the first time with the flight. Am looking for someone who could possibly help give directions during transit. She has enough time for transit, just worried abit as she is not a frequent air traveler. Anyone, please, feel free to offer some suggestions.

Just to add to this, I only got part of my living expense allowance at the start of the semester. Also, only a semester portion of my tuition fee has been paid. The balance will be paid in January at the start of the 2nd semester and I'll also get the balance of my living expenses then. I don't know if this is because I'm receiving the aid from Alberta and studying in Ontario, or if it's based on the structure of the academic program. But I like the feeling of looking forward to another payment in January
Majesticniyi:
Based on PMs I got from my last post, I’d like to clarify and explain how the Education/Loan system works according to my little experience. Please note, everything below is from personal exposure in Alberta and may not be 100% true for other provinces!
So obviously, the first thing to do is apply to a school. There are lots of schools around and preference can be based on field of study. E.g
-SAIT/NAIT for technical, business related and medical science courses
-Bow Valley College for Office management, Arts, Business related
-University of Calgary and University of Alberta for Bsc and Post-graduate
-Etc. Please avoid private colleges, it's not worth the tuition.
It is better to choose a course after adequate research (employment rate, entrance salary, job conditions etc). I know people who have gone to to school, finished and realized they wasted their time...and then start all over again, wasting money and precious years and sometimes accumulating over a hundred thousand dollars in student loan.
Minimum requirements for ission differ, could be a function of school / course. For instance, It’s SSCE for SAIT or in other cases you need Course by course evaluation.
Student Aid: There are two parts to this; student grant and student loan. Student grants are grants you dont have to pay back but you only qualify for them if you apply for student loan..student loan, you have to pay back in monthly installments six months after your studies. The tuition is paid directly to the school and balance paid to you. This balance is about 80% of living expense based on family size and its paid in lump sum.
E.g If your tuition and living expenses for a semester sums up to $10,000. Then tuition of eg $3000 is paid to the school and $7,000 sent to your at the start of the semester. The percentage of this $10,000 that comes as grant depends on your family make-up, previous investment and family income (Those with children have upper hands here as they get more percentages of Grants)
So basically when you apply online, you would be asked to mail some documents and the school would be ed to confirm your studentship before funds are dispersed.
Note: The requirement is, you must have been resident in the Alberta for 12months prior to applying. But if you are new to Canada and can prove that you have been resident in Alberta since your arrival in the country, you are eligible for the loan (you would need an ID card from Alberta to prove apply).
Another question is on how much you can combine with work. As a PR you dont have limitations on how many hours you are legally allowed to work. You can work to cover your basic living and keep the loan part of the money and refund once you are done with school and no longer require it. With weekend work and some sort of driving for small deliveries, you can make enough money to live within your means.
Disclaimer: Seniors in the house, please correct any errors in assumptions I might have made

I applied for a Canadian visa while I was in US last year and was approved. I stated that I was visiting the US and also included my ticket for my trip back to Nigeria. This was even while my PR application was ongoing.
oluayebenz:
That is not true......
She will be automatically rejected.
You can't apply for any visa as a visitor in any foreign country..... It can only be done on different visa categories not on visit visa

Welcome to Calgary! Did you ask about the "5th Class Power Engineering Training Program" at CCIS? You can check and see if it's somehting that interests you.
gogedda:
Finally landed 2 weeks ago as a single man. ed through Immigration and customs without no problem in MMIA. Both Luggage were over 23 kg while carry on was over 7 kg. The guys at Ethiopian airline stand allowed me to add more weight to the carry on to make it 12kg while the luggages were left at 25kg each. Trip to Adisabba was long, and then Dublin and then Toronto. Couldn't eat the food served in the plane, only ate the bread and Red wine. Landed on Saturday, went through immigration and customs in Toronto without any problem and then the final leg of the journey to Calgary. I am currently staying with a friend who is married. I have done my SIN, Health Card, bought a sim, visited 2 immigration services (CCIS and Mustard seed ministry) in downtown. I was able to get a reduced bus for the month of June and paid $37.5 instead of $104 or so. If you are less than 30yrs, You can visit CCIS, they have a 2 weeks employment training. I met a Nigerian there and he told me about the training and also showed me his check . If you attend it without missing a class , they will pay you $900. I couldn't do it cos I am over that age. I have also learnt the bus and train route system after ing the Calgary transit app. I am also currently studying for the Alberta driver's license exam. Both fields that I have experience in (Geoscience & Real estate )are licensed here, so I am currently looking for a job while I prepare to do a 2 yrs course in SAIT. Please kindly link me up if you have any. Thanks

A special thanks to EVERYONE for the best wishes and prayers . You guys said it. We just started Part 8 and from your mouths to God’s ears, it has happened beautifully.
Express Entry has got us with different stories to tell and it’s been one hell of a ride………a roller coaster ride indeed.
