So I'm currently liking this girl, and with all things being equal, I am ready to marry her. But my fear is the age difference, I will be 33 next year while she is currently 24. She likes me too, but I'm still playing safe as I am still skeptical. Should I go on or just cut off the relationship before it becomes serious.

Good morning guys

I'm a graduate of Computer Science, and I have been a web developer for a couple of years now. I'm mostly a frontend developer (using Angular). Due to the market saturation in frontend dev, I would love to branch away (for now, the plan is to focus more on backend), and from my research, it seems Angular is often paired with C# (ASP.NET).

Would you recommend I go ahead to learn C#? Are there lots of opportunities in Nigeria for C# developers? And on average, how long d'you think it would take to get a job?

Thanks a lot guys

Sure, especially if you intend to work in fintechs and large-scale enterprise companies. C# and Java are the mostly used programming languages in those world.

Thanks for your response. Why exactly do you suggest Nodejs?

How about other languages like C#, Java and PHP?
If you want to make money quicker, especially in the nigerian tech job market, my brother, na nodejs , php or java oooh…I recommended nodejs cos it requires javascript which is a beginner-friendly language and you can jump from a beginner to a job-ready developer quicker. nodejs is widely used by most tech companies in naija, while java is actually used in those enterprise companies…anybody that tells you something different na clown. Even internationally, you can check how huge the demand for javascript developer is.

Asides from seeking a job with it, DSA sharpens your coding and problem solving skills as a programmer. So I will recommend it for anyone who’s into programming. At least the basics.

Please this is a serious thread and I'll appreciate responses.

I've been learning Front-End web development for 4 months now and I've made a lot of progress. Recently I tried to learn some back end with Nodejs, Express and MongoDB just to get some exposure, but I've realized it's not for me at all. Its so boring and I hate every bit of it. It literally puts me to sleep everytime.

I spend hours working on Front end projects and I enjoy every minute of it, but backend is like a chore.

Since it is apparent that frontend is my calling, can I possibly become a successful Front-End developer? Are there really opportunities for beginner frontend devs? I've been told that adding backend languages to your stack improves the possibility of you being hired, but it's clear I hate backend and would hate a job as a backend developer.

What's your advice for me?
Lol…just hold on to what interests you and know it really well. Backend engineers find frontend stuff boring and scary too, so it’s a normal feeling. And yes, picking up a career in frontend is a very lucrative path, so far you are solid with it.

Even though both ain't easy, but I think frontend is more challenging though. When I started working as a backend engineer coming from a frontend background, I swear, I didn't want to go back to doing frontend because backend is just so straightforward, can't say the same for frontend. BE engineers brag about BE being logically draining, but trust me, there's no way you won't be using your logical reasoning too as a frontend engineer unless na landing page you dey build. I haven't even mentioned the dreadful CSS and the various technologies FE engineers have to learn just to be at the top of the game. Seriously, it shouldn't even be a debate.

A UK startup I work for hinted they need an experienced c#/asp.net developer for full time position. Having little knowledge of devops is an advantage too. You can chat me up on 09064796976 if qualified and interested. Abeg, if you no get up to 3 years experience, no stress me ooh.

As a someone who is currently learning front end web development, research has led me to the realization that these days companies test both front end and back end developers on their knowledge of Data structures and Algorithms. The interviews are typically structured in styles similar to what you see in Leetcode and hackerRank.

JavaScript is currently the only language I know. People have advised to also concentrate on JavaScript at the backend with nodejs. But the problem is that you almost never see DSA learning resources for JavaScript. HackerRank doesn't even list JavaScript as one of the langauges to practice those sorts of questions. In most interviews the candidates are asked to choose between Python, Java and C family languages.

How does a frontend dev practice DSA? What is the best language to learn Data structures and Algorithms?
You can use any language op. There are some materials that teach DSA in Javascript. I once had a textbook that does, and if you want videos, check “codeevolution dsa with javascript” on youtube. The only reason python is favorable for dsa is because of interviews. You will solve your interview problems quicker writing in python.

Probably, your laptop’s screen size wasn’t on 100% when you were developing. Try to check this first and let’s see how it goes.
