Read again Luke 10:41-42, the Master’s commendation of her faith and ion for the Word, despite Martha’s complaints that she had left her to do the chores all by herself. It reminds of another of Jesus’ encounter with a woman at the well of Samaria. He had asked the woman for a drink of water, and she declined. Then Jesus said to her, “…If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water” (John 4:10). Like this woman, if Martha had known who Jesus was, she would have been asking for “food” from Him, not trying to get Him some.
