Work permit, valid port, N80k fee… how Nigerians in diaspora can apply for BVN

Nigerians living abroad are now required to pay $50 (about N80,000) to for the bank verification number (BVN), according to findings by TheCable.

On May 13, the CBN, in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), launched the non-resident bank verification number (NRBVN) platform to ease access to financial services for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The NRBVN platform allows Nigerians abroad to obtain their BVN remotely, eliminating the long-standing requirement of physical presence in Nigeria.

Olayemi Cardoso, governor of CBN, said the NRBVN is aimed at increasing financial inclusion, particularly for Nigerians living outside the country.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NRBVN

Applicants can access the new platform and with a recognised email by visiting the link https://nibss-plc.com.ng/nrbvn/.

After registration, a link is sent to the email address provided to activate the applicant’s . The link also redirects the applicant to another page for creation.

The next process requires them to scan a QRcode using any two-factor authentication (2FA) app like Google Authenticator.

When this is successfully achieved, applicants are taken to a page with options to “Onboard, Open Bank , or Remit Money.” From here, applicants select their appropriate type status from three options: ‘Nigerian, no BVN’, ‘Nigerian, BVN’, and ‘Nigerian by descent’.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR NRBVN ISSUANCE

To use any of the services on the platform, a valid port is the primary requirement, according to the portal. However, where this is not available, other documents that can be used are the Nigerian port (valid or expired), proof of foreign residency (valid foreign port, residence permit, green card etc.), utility bill, work permit and/or proof of employment, proof of tax payment in the country of residence, and foreign bank statements.

N80,000 REGISTRATION FEE

On the new portal, applicants are notified of a mandatory $50 non-refundable fee to process their registration using either a Visa card or a Mastercard. This contrasts with the free BVN registration for Nigerians living in the country.

After confirming the information, s are redirected to a secure Tazapay checkout page to complete the transaction using their debit or credit cards.

The payment portal, powered by international gateway provider Tazapay, was launched to process applications from diaspora residents who are unable to travel to Nigeria for biometric enrollment.

Once all the required information and documents are provided and payments made, the NRBVN system will validate and screen the information. Once approved, an NRBVN will be provided within 72 hours.

As of May 2025, with the naira trading at around N1,600 to the dollar, the BVN registration fee represents a cost of approximately N80,000 per applicant.

The initiative is expected to enhance know-your-customer (KYC) compliance and reduce identity fraud across Nigeria’s banking system, particularly in the face of tightening regulatory oversight over fintech operations, foreign exchange (FX) inflows, and diaspora remittances.

Canada has introduced stricter rules in its Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), raising concerns among skilled foreign workers, including many Nigerians, who now face greater risks of deportation due to tighter hiring conditions.

Under the new regulations, employers must raise wages for high-skilled foreign hires to at least 20% above the regional median wage.

Companies can now only fill a maximum of 10% of low-wage roles with foreign workers.

These reforms, which took effect between September and November 2024, are designed to prioritise Canadian citizens for available jobs.

The government has also reclassified an estimated 34,000 positions from the high-wage to the low-wage stream, exposing more foreign workers to stricter oversight, fewer benefits, and increased job insecurity.

Many employers, particularly in sectors like hospitality, construction, and agriculture, said the changes are forcing them to scale back foreign hires or avoid renewing contracts due to rising labour costs.

For temporary foreign workers, this means expiring permits without renewal and limited options to secure new qualifying job offers, both of which can lead to deportation.

The caps and wage hikes are also reshaping Canada’s reputation as a top destination for skilled international talents.

Critics warned the policies may deter future applicants, disrupt travel and seasonal employment sectors, and trigger a loss of much-needed labour.

While the Canadian government insisted the reforms protect domestic employment, businesses and migrant advocacy groups are urging for a more balanced approach that recognizes the vital role foreign workers play in sustaining the country’s economy.

Man U is not a big club anymore. In fact this is where their problem begins from. They must accept that they have fallen and that there is need for a humble rebuilding. All this illusion of 'big' is why they will never recover.

They will end up like Everton and the likes who were once powerhouses in English football. Like play like play, Man U will be relegated if they keep thinking that they are big and always going about buying overpriced players. Let the media keep deceiving you and other fans. Una eyes go soon clear. grin
Hahahaha, my brother, Man Utd is still a big club ooooo, not only big but one of the biggest. I am a Chelsea fan and I am telling you the truth. Man Utd problem is very very deep and something is going on in that club that some people don't know.

Maybe, they also need to change their Mentality.

You will see some of their players that left Man Utd and now playing better.

Also, they need to lower their wages to the players.

Visa Processes for Nigerians: See the easiest, hardest, and most expensive countries.

Some countries offer affordable e-visa systems, while others require detailed documentation.

Securing a visa as a Nigerian port holder often involves navigating complex, time-consuming, and sometimes expensive procedures.

Some countries offer streamlined and affordable e-visa systems, while others require detailed documentation, interviews, or even clearance from multiple agencies. In this guide, we break down and rank visa processes based on cost, accessibility, and overall experience for Nigerian travellers, highlighting the easiest, most confusing, underrated, misunderstood, and trickiest ones.

Ranking Visa Processes for Nigerians

India – Most Expensive Visa

The cost of the Indian visa is $585 + $3 ICWF (approx. ₦860,000). This high visa fee is a significant barrier for many Nigerian travellers. This is a basic tourist visa that is valid for just 3 months and allows only a single entry. If your stay exceeds this period, be prepared to pay at least $250 in additional fees. The processing of the visa applications may take up to six weeks.

Requirements

• Valid port with at least six months' validity

• Proof of residence

• Travel itinerary and accommodation details

• Financial statements

Application Process

• Apply online through the Indian Visa Application Centre

• Schedule an appointment for biometric data submission

• Submit the required documents at the visa application centre

• Track application status online

United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Most Confusing Visa

They won't even be able to attract good players at the moment cos they are not in Europe at all. Amorim has a big job on his hands right now. There's something going on inside that club that makes players go bad. There is something there that stunts players development. When Ronaldo came out to speak, it wasn't a joke. The club is in ruins. Spurs beat them 4times this season. Quite shameful! Even with how poor spurs are
I tell you, something is definitely going on in that club. And for Tottenham that was so so bad this season beat u 4 times sums it up.

When I told some ManU fans here that Tenhag is actually a good coach, they kept saying the man is terrible. Now they should be asking themselves how Tenhag managed to use these average players to win back to back trophies. Amorim is also a good coach but united need to recruit players that suit his style and he needs to offload the ones who can't fit in properly. Onana needs to leave ASAP if anything is to change. His mistakes have really cost them this season. Congrats to spurs. They were poor too but managed the game better.
I think the problems at Man Utd is too complicated. See, we keep blaming their players all the time, but when these players leave the club and other clubs, they excel, they play well. Look at Anthony, look at Wan Bissaka, look at Scott McTominay, and other players, they are playing well at their various clubs, so I think in my own opinion that Man Utd problem is too complicated.

They also need to change their Mentality, I am a Chelsea fan, but common, this is not the old Man Utd I used to know, Since Sir Alex left the club, they're not the same club again.

The only Coach that tried small after Ferguson era is Mourinho and he tried to change their Mentality but I think the players don't want that.

Anyway, good luck to them.

It's not easy for a Big Club like Man Utd not to play in any UEFA competitions.

Tottenham end 17-Year trophy drought with Europa League triumph over Manchester United.

For Tottenham, this victory marks the end of a long wait for silverware, their last trophy being the 2008 League Cup

In a historic night for Tottenham Hotspur, the North London club secured their first major trophy in 17 years by defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.

The decisive goal came in the 42nd minute, with Brennan Johnson converting an assist from Pape Sarr to send Spurs fans into raptures.

Though Wednesday’s match was by no means a dream final, Manchester United enjoyed the lion’s share of possession early on, pushing Spurs deep into their own half.

The Red Devils threatened several times through Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Højlund, but Guglielmo Vicario stood firm in goal.

A key turning point arrived in the 42nd minute. Pape Sarr launched a quick counter, sending in a low cross that Rodrigo Bentancur cleverly dummied, allowing Brennan Johnson to tap home from close range.

Despite United’s 60 per cent+ possession and territorial dominance, Spurs struck with precision—one attack, one goal.

Second Half

United threw everything forward in search of an equaliser. Garnacho came close, Bruno missed a sitter, and Højlund had a header blocked.

However, the Spurs backline, marshaled brilliantly by Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, held firm.

Time-wasting yellow cards and constant clearances showed Tottenham’s tactical maturity.

Late changes by Ruben Amorim, including the introductions of Garnacho and Zirkzee, added urgency but not the breakthrough.

Spurs absorbed wave after wave of pressure, with Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma making critical tackles and interceptions.

Wild celebration

As the final whistle blew, the Tottenham players fell to their knees in jubilation. Ange Postecoglou’s men defied the odds, soaking up pressure and delivering when it mattered most.

Manchester United dominated much of the match but paid the price for their profligacy in front of goal.

For Tottenham, this victory marks the end of a long wait for silverware, their last trophy being the 2008 League Cup.

British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has emerged richer than England football captain Harry Kane and heavyweight rival Tyson Fury as his net worth has soared to €232m, according to the newly published Sunday Times Rich List.

The two-time heavyweight world champion has seen his earnings increase by a whopping €24m from €208m last year to €232m currently.

Joshua has also been listed among the wealthiest under-40s in the UK, sitting in 24th place.

Despite his impressive financial standing, Joshua isn’t the number one athlete on the Sunday Times’ list.

That accolade belongs to golf star Rory McIlroy. The 36-year-old is worth a jaw-dropping €304m compared to his value of €263m a year ago.

McIlroy’s earnings saw a huge spike last month after he finally got his hands on the Masters, and in doing so, achieved a career grand slam. The win saw him scoop €3.68m, which saw his total PGA Tour prize money go beyond €117m.

Joshua’s rise on the rich list has seen him stay ahead of the likes of Harry Kane, whose €117m value placed him at No.38 in the list. The only other name included on the staggering list from the world of sport was Andy Murray, who placed at 35 with €128m.

The boxing sensation hasn’t fought since suffering a devastating knockout to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September. It looked like the pair would square off in an immediate rematch, but ‘AJ’ suffered a slight setback after picking up some minor injuries in the first encounter.

Over the last few years, the heavyweight boxer has become accustomed to pocketing life-changing paydays. It was reported that he earned around €35m for his second-round KO of Francis Ngannou last year.

Joshua reportedly banked a guaranteed €7m following his defeat to Dubois—but roughly took home around €29m in total following pay-per-view sales.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Tyson Fury was crowned the highest-paid boxer in 2024, ahead of rivals Oleksandr Usyk and Joshua, according to Sportico.

In total, the ‘Gypsy King’ pocketed a total sum of $147m (€137m)—with $140m (€131m) coming from salary/winnings, whilst the final $7m (€6m) came from endorsements.

From endorsement deals alone in the world of boxing, Joshua earned the t-most, featuring alongside Jake Paul.

However, in of the highest-paid athletes in 2024, ‘AJ’ didn’t feature in the top 20. Instead, the Brit was placed at 30, pocketing a grand total of $60m (€56m) last year, with $50m (€47m) coming through salary/winnings.

Victor Osimhen scored to help Galatasaray claim their 25th Turkish league title on Sunday, cong Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce to the runners-up spot for the fourth straight season.

Turkey’s most successful club swept aside Kayserispor 3-0 with Osimhen opening the scoring to move eight points clear of Fenerbahce with two rounds of games in the Turkish Super Lig remaining.

Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera scored a late penalty to wrap up the win.

Out in front since the third game of the season, Galatasaray qualify for the Champions League league phase.

They were ably assisted in their push for the title by the 25 goals scored by Osimhen since his arrival on loan from Napoli last September.

Losing out on silverware meanwhile could trigger Mourinho’s departure from Fenerbahce one year before the end of his contract, local media suggest.

Mourinho’s team were last crowned champions 11 years ago, and were undone this season by failing to win any of the four Istanbul derbies against Galatasaray and Besiktas.

The pressure got to Mourinho. After losing in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals to Galatasaray last month he grabbed the face of their coach, Okan Buruk.

Here are 10 countries that allow foreign students to come along with dependants.

The trend of Japa (emigration) has been a last resort for a lot of Nigerians looking to find greener pastures and better living conditions.

A few reasons why people choose to emigrate include: economic opportunities, better job prospects, economic stability, education, security and safety, healthcare and living standards, social and political freedom, family reunification, environmental factors.

In this article we’re focusing on ‘education and family reunification’, and here are 10 countries that allow foreign students to come along with dependents:

1. Finland

Family of international students can apply for a visa to them in Finland by making use of their relationship with the student. To be eligible, the student must hold a valid residence permit for study purposes in Finland. Additionally, there must be proof of adequate financial resources and valid health insurance to cover the dependent’s entire stay. The visa application fee depends on the age of the applicant adults are charged higher than children. Before making the trip to Finland the following documents have to be at hand; valid port of the dependents, completed residence permit application form, proof of family relationship, proof of financial means to dependents, health insurance for dependents, copy of the international student’s residence permit and port, proof of accommodation in Finland.

2. Denmark

International students in Denmark looking to reunite with family can do so under the Danish Family Visa scheme, provided they hold a valid study residence permit. This visa covers spouses, children, and even parents, allowing them to stay in the country for up to two years. During this period, dependents are permitted to work or run a business, as long as their residence status remains valid. The application process is handled online, with a standard visa fee. This family visa requires the following documents provided; valid port, student’s residence permit details, proof of relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.), proof of accommodation in Denmark, proof of financial means (e.g., bank statements, scholarship details, etc.)

3. Malta

Malta allows for family of foreign students to apply for a family reunification visa, this visa allows for spouses and children who are minors to travel to Malta for the duration of the student’s stay in Malta, and the student has to be financially stable enough to their family. The family would have to apply for a separate family visa while the student’s sponsorship and application is reviewed. This visa application is only possible if the student has a resident permit.

4. China

China provides two visa options for dependents of international students: the S1 and S2 visas.

The S1 visa, commonly referred to as a long-term visa, is designed for dependents planning to stay in China for more than 180 days. Now or never! Premier League giants hold crunch talks to sign Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen could land his dream move to the English Premier League, according to the latest reports.

Chelsea are reportedly planning critical talks with Victor Osimhen’s representatives this week, aiming to find an agreement to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian star, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, is expected to leave Naples on a permanent deal this summer. Despite Chelsea's firm interest, reports indicate that Osimhen’s wage expectations are the primary obstacle to a move to Stamford Bridge.

Both Osimhen and Chelsea are eager to make the transfer happen, but his salary demands are reportedly too high for the Blues or any other Premier League club.

The report claims Chelsea are now exploring creative ways to structure a deal that fits their wage framework, though Osimhen is unlikely to reduce his expectations without performance-based incentives included in the contract.

If no agreement is reached, Chelsea have lined up Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as fallback options.

Osimhen has been in scintillating form at Galatasaray, racking up 33 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances across all competitions this season.

Africa’s corporate landscape remains highly uneven, with billion-dollar companies—often referred to as “unicorns” in the tech world—found in only three countries across the continent. The limitation of this spread reveals an unlikely business environment, highlighting the struggles African businesses face in breaking even and scaling sustainably.

• Africa has a limited number of billion-dollar companies distributed unevenly across the continent.

• Factors like economic inflows and infrastructure investments fuel the versatility of these markets.

• Africa's billion-dollar companies are concentrated in South Africa, Nigeria, and Egypt, representing only 1% of global firms valued at $1 billion or more.

When compared to the global scene, Africa's business environment is struggling, with only a handful of countries hosting billion-dollar companies, known as "unicorns".

This limited presence highlights the challenges African businesses face in scaling up and achieving long-term success, revealing a tough environment for entrepreneurship and growth on the continent.

According to an analysis by Visual Capitalist, there are 5,522 publicly listed firms globally valued at $1 billion or more.

The United States leads with a market capitalization of $60.1 trillion and s for 1,873 billion-dollar companies—commanding 49% of the global market share.

Increasingly, a growing number of large firms are emerging out of India and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Japan stands out in second position with 404 companies valued at over $1 billion, having navigated persistent demographic challenges.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange's push to boost company valuations is part of broader efforts to unlock value in one of the world’s most undervalued major markets.

India follows closely in third place with 348 billion-dollar companies, driven by rapid corporate growth, increased investor participation, and infrastructure investment.

Over the past five years, its benchmark stock market index has surged 137%, suring the S&P 500’s 98% gain over the same period.

Canada ranks fourth with 228 companies, followed by the UK with 218. China takes sixth place with 216 billion-dollar firms.

The Asia-Pacific region as a whole s for 30% of all global billion-dollar companies—second only to North America. In contrast, Latin America and Africa for just 3% and 1% respectively.

The major characteristics fueling this global trend include strong economic growth, rising capital inflows, and favorable demographics.

However, the limited distribution of high-performing companies in Africa highlights a deeper reality: the concentration of investment, infrastructure, and market access in just a handful of economies.

This raises critical questions about the broader inclusivity and resilience of Africa’s growth story.

Africa’s billion-dollar scene

Africa remains a marginal player in the global landscape of billion-dollar companies, ing for just 1% of the world’s firms valued at $1 billion or more.

These companies are overwhelmingly concentrated in only three countries: South Africa, Nigeria, and Egypt—reflecting a stark imbalance in the distribution of capital, infrastructure, and investor confidence across the continent.

According to a report by McKinsey & Company, these billion-dollar companies operate across all major sectors, but six industries dominate the revenue landscape, collectively ing for 70% of total earnings.

These are oil and gas, mining, retail and consumer goods, financial services, manufacturing, and telecommunications.

South Africa leads with 43 billion-dollar firms, ed by a well-established financial sector, deep capital markets, and a number of long-standing conglomerates.

Nigeria, despite persistent macroeconomic challenges, is home to one billion-dollar company—an achievement largely driven by the growth of its fintech sector and expanding digital economy.

Egypt also hosts a single billion-dollar firm, benefiting from its strategic location and diversified industrial base, which continue to attract both regional and international investors.

Although Africa’s overall share remains small, the existence of these high-value companies highlights the continent’s untapped potential. As digital innovation accelerates and more governments pursue structural reforms, there are growing opportunities for broader corporate growth.

Victor Osimhen scored twice on Wednesday night to break Turkish football’s single-season record for most goals by a foreign player and help the Istanbul giants lift the Turkish Cup with a 3-0 win over Trabzonspor, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian striker entered the final with 33 goals and needed two more to sur the 34-goal mark set by Mario Jardel in the 2000/01 season.

He did just that, netting in the 46th and 63rd minutes to reach 35 goals in all competitions and lead Galatasaray to their 19th Turkish Cup title, a national record.

Baris Yilmaz had opened the scoring for Galatasaray early in the fifth minute after a clever from Yunus Akgun.

But it was Osimhen’s night. His first goal came just after the restart, a powerful low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner.

His second was even more emphatic, a sharp turn inside the area and a curling effort into the top corner.

He has now also moved up the club’s all-time foreign goalscorers list, with 35 goals in 38 appearances, overtaking Brazil’s Mario Jardel.

Only seven other foreign players have scored more goals for Galatasaray, with Romania’s Gheorghe Hagi still leading the chart with 72.

Galatasaray can complete the domestic double with a win over Kayserispor on Sunday, which would secure their 25th league title. It would be the club’s fourth double in history, having last achieved the feat in the 1998–99 season.

The t issions and Matriculation Board has announced a review of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results following a wave of “unusual complaints” from candidates after the results were released on Friday, DEBORAH TOLU-KOLAWOLE reports

The t issions and Matriculation Board on Friday officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination to the public.

Earlier before the release, the Board released official statistics of the results.

According to the examination agency, a total of 1,955,069 results were processed out of which Only 4,756 candidates (0.24%) scored 320 and above, considered top-tier performance.

7,658 candidates (0.39%) scored between 300–319, bringing the total for those who scored 300 and above to 12,414 candidates (0.63%).

Also, 73,441 candidates (3.76%) scored between 250 and 299 while 334,560 candidates (17.11%) scored between 200 and 249.

A total of 983,187 candidates (50.29%) scored between 160 and 199, which is widely regarded as the minimum threshold for issions in many institutions.

In the same vein, 488,197 candidates (24.97%) scored between 140 and 159, 57,419 candidates (2.94%) scored between 120 and 139, 3,820 candidates (0.20%) scored between 100 and 119, and 2,031 candidates (0.10%) scored below 100.

Over 75 per cent of all candidates (1.5 million) scored below 200, average score seeing as the examination is graded over 400.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, while reacting to the results said that the performance statistics for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination are in line with results recorded over the past 12 years.

He emphasised, however, that such results are not unusual and align with historical patterns.

“This is not peculiar to this year. The performance statistics are consistent with those of the last 12 years,” he said.

In 2024, 76 per cent of candidates who sat the UTME scored less than 200 points.

In 2022, 1.3 million candidates out of 1.7 million –or 78 per cent– who sat the 2022 UTME scored below 200, according to JAMB.

In 2021, only 803 candidates out of 1.3 million – or 0.06 per cent – who sat the 2021 UTME scored above 300.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, while also reacting to the results, said the high failure rate in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was clear evidence that the government’s anti-malpractice measures were yielding results, especially within the t issions and Matriculation Board system.

Candidates, parents allege discrepancies

But candidates and parents have continued to allege discrepancies in the released results with some calling on the Board to release the modalities with which it scored each candidate.

Some candidates have rejected their results, insisting they do not reflect their actual performance.

A group of candidates, numbering over 8,000, have reportedly submitted complaints regarding technical glitches experienced during the examination.

The candidates, their families and concerned Nigerians have also taken to social media to express concerns over the results insisting that the released results do not reflect their performances using the hashtag #thisisnotmyresult to protest their scores.

One social media , @Pennyfabz, who scored 156 expressed concern, saying she had previously scored 285 in the previous edition of the UTME.

“Dear @JAMBHQ, Something is wrong with my result. I’m very confident that this is not what I’m meant to get. Please look into this matter. I’m seriously comforting myself that everything is okay. Please listen to our plea. I can’t go from 285 to 156,” the candidate posted on X.

Another post by @quwam001 reads: “Dear @JAMBHQ, Something is seriously wrong with the recently released UTME results. These scores do not reflect the abilities, efforts, or track record of our students.

“Egbaze Victoria scored 295 in last year’s UTME, and now she’s being told she scored 132? And many others.”

A candidate who sat the examination at a CBT centre in Maitama, Abuja, told The PUNCH, “During the examination, for my Use of English, I noticed that some of my questions were missing. I raised the alarm, and I wasn’t the only one with the issue. When my result came out, I scored 170. JAMB has not addressed the missing questions.”

Another candidate who wrote the exam on April 26 said she was shocked by her result.

“Last year I scored 287, this year I got 173. Many others who wrote on the same day complained that their English questions were incomplete. This result is not mine.”

A parent also called for a review, saying: “We demand a remark from JAMB. These are exceptional students scoring below 200. Many complained of incomplete questions and other technical issues. JAMB has said nothing. This cannot be swept under the rug.”

The CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, noted that students have been demoralized over the results. He noted that over 11,000 candidates have filed complaints via a link he posted on X.

“JAMB is messing with these students destiny. The energy is low nationwide amongst students. They can’t write WAEC with this level of energy.

“We need all students mark-sheet released to them and also exams on 24th, 25th, 26th and 28th of April must be thorough investigation quickly. 26th April is the worst of them all with all its incomplete questions and blank questions.

“11,467 complaints have been filed already. Students may have to rewrite JAMB at JAMB’s own expense.

“JAMB may have to publicly apologise to all these Nigerian students.”

On Monday, JAMB announced that it was reviewing the UTME results.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the board said it is fast forwarding its annual system review, a comprehensive post-mortem of the examination process, as a result of the ‘significant volume of unusual complaints’ that followed the release of the 2025 UTME results on Friday.

“If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, as we do in the case of the examinations themselves,” the board said

The board said it is particularly concerned about the unusual complaints from a few states within the federation.

According to the statement, the board is scrutinising these complaints in detail to identify and rectify potential technical issues.

JAMB said the annual review encomes three key stages: registration, examination, and result release.

It explained that during the examination, JAMB ensures that every candidate is afforded the opportunity to sit the test, and should any technical issues arise, the board reschedules the examination for affected candidates.

JAMB said experts have been engaged to assist in the review.

The experts are: “ from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, Chief External Examiners, who are heads of tertiary institutions, the Educational Association and Research Network in Africa, measurement experts, and Vice Chancellors from various institutions.”

A public interest law firm, the Chambers of Evans Ufeli, has threatened legal action against the t issions and Matriculation Board following what it described as the widespread failure and systemic breakdown during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

In a petition addressed to the Registrar of JAMB, the firm, led by Evans Ufeli, cited numerous cases of technical malfunctions, poor logistics, and alleged safety breaches that, it claimed, severely compromised the credibility and fairness of the examination process.

Ufeli, who signed the petition in his capacity as both a legal practitioner and education advocate, alleged that the conditions under which the 2025 UTME was conducted rendered it unjust and detrimental to the mental well-being and academic future of many candidates.

One of the major issues raised in the letter was the early scheduling of exams where candidates, many of whom are minors, were reportedly instructed to arrive at examination centres as early as 6am.

This, the firm argued, subjected young students to undue stress and physical exhaustion before their exams even began.

“This instruction caused anxiety, fatigue and confusion among 15 to 16-year-olds who were already grappling with exam tension,” the letter noted.

Beyond scheduling, the petition alleged that some candidates were reported missing during the course of the examination period. The firm described this as a serious failure on JAMB’s part to guarantee the safety and security of young Nigerians placed in its care.

“Such incidents expose deep flaws in the planning and execution of the UTME and raise serious concerns about the ability of JAMB to safeguard the lives of the candidates,” Ufeli stated.

The firm also pointed to lengthy delays in the commencement of exams at many centres. These delays, according to the letter, led to heightened anxiety levels among candidates and, in some cases, disrupted exam schedules altogether.

In light of the above, the law firm demanded that JAMB immediately cancel the 2025 UTME results and conduct a fresh round of examinations under improved conditions.

“This examination, as conducted, failed to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and transparency. It must be set aside and a new one organized under conditions that meet acceptable standards,” the firm asserted.

Ufeli warned that if JAMB fails to act on the demands, his chambers will have no choice but to seek redress in court.

“Should JAMB fail to address these grave concerns, we will be compelled to initiate legal proceedings to protect the rights and futures of the affected candidates,” he wrote.

Skills are very important as well, and if we are talking of skills, we are talking about latest Skills and they are many, AI is part of it and many other latest skills and the way we are seeing it, technology might/may take some jobs from humans, even though it still needs human touches, but people need to capitalize on it.

Some months ago, I saw some advance tech in USA places online, like stadiums, eateries, hotels and so many other places.

So people need to learn new skills and AI too.

God bless us.

Time Out has named three African cities among the world’s best for 2025. Cape Town leads the list, with Marrakech and Lagos also earning places in the global rankings.

Each year, Time Out surveys thousands of people living in cities across the world. Respondents answer questions about different aspects of daily life, such as food, nightlife, culture, and how connected they feel to their city.

The publication also consults local experts who give input on which cities are most exciting to visit in the current year. Time Out compiles its annual list of the world’s best cities based on the combined data.

In the 2025 edition, three African cities made the list, with Cape Town claiming the top position.

Here are the 3 best African cities in the world in 2025

1. Cape Town – Ranked #1

Cape Town has been named the world’s best city for 2025. The city received top marks from residents, with 95% rating the local food scene highly. An even higher 97% of respondents said the city made them feel happy.

According to Andrew Hallett, content director for Time Out South Africa, Cape Town stands out because of its unique combination of nature, history, and leisure. He highlighted how visitors and locals alike can explore beaches, visit a colony of penguins, view landscapes from a recognised natural wonder, and sample a variety of cultural activities – all in one day.

2. Marrakech – Ranked #37

Marrakech also made the list, ranking 37th globally. Known for its hospitality, the Moroccan city earned praise for its developing food scene and community warmth.

Local expert Sally Kirby noted that Marrakech continues to grow in popularity due to its combination of tradition and modern development. The city has become a destination for travellers interested in both cultural heritage and new culinary experiences.

3. Lagos – Ranked #41

Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, took the 41st spot on the list. The survey found that 72% of residents feel it is easy to meet new people and form social connections.

Lagos remains a major cultural and business hub in Africa. Its energy, diversity, and population density contribute to a social environment where making friends is straightforward. The city has also gained recognition for its music and creative industries.
