Genevieve Nnaji has reacted to the xenophobic attacks carried out by South Africans against foreigners mostly Nigerians in their country, which has led to an outrage on social media and the media.

The screen diva in her Instagram post, stated that South Africans have shown Nigerians countless times who they are. She affirmed that a life with Nigerians isn't the worst thing and they (South Africans) need to see another side of life without Nigerians.

A 16-year-old boy arrested by the Gombe State Police Command for cyber fraud, has blamed his actions on Naira Marley whose song and lifestyle he claimed influenced him.

While the police said that the suspected internet fraudster is 18 years old, the suspect identified as Gabriel Michael insisted that he is just 16 years old.

“I learnt hacking through tutorials on YouTube; for so many months I was at it. The lifestyle of a Nigerian musician, Naira Marley, the way he spends money influenced me. Marley talks about being a Yahoo boy (cyber fraudster). My addiction to computer started at the age of seven,” Michael said.

“I’m 16 years old, from Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State. I finished from the Nationwide Academy in Gombe. I was arrested for hacking into someone’s .

“I generate software like IP protocol, Angry IP scans, linos and I use them to do the job" he added.

Pleading for mercy when paraded before newsmen, Michael said he can channel his skills to legal ventures but has no one to encourage him.

“I regret my actions. I pray to be pardoned, so that I can use my talent in other to work for them (law enforcement agency). I can channel my ideas to legal ventures but the challenge has always been that nobody encourages one to use his talent to do good things. For instance, friends will push you to do so because you are making money. My ambition is to work hard to become a member of the Department of Security Services.”

On how he has been able conceal what he does from his parents, the suspect said he hides under the cover of his everyday job which is aluminum works.

“I hide under the cover of my job; I’m into aluminum works. My parents did not suspect my heinous activities,” he said.

Revealing how he was able to hack into the bank of one Deborah Tanko to withdraw N187,000, Michael said;

“Once you can guess a name or number you will formulate it. Usually, I start from getting your telephone number from your social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. After getting your names, telephone number and your bank, I will formulate it, and attempt to get your personal data base from the bank and thereafter generate your token for transaction. I don’t usually exceed two attempts; if you do it thrice, you will be caught.”

Punch reported that the state's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mary Malum said Michael was arrested on August 30, 2019 around the PZ Quarters ( a commercial area of Gombe) for fraud, cheating and cybercrime.

“Michael used his computer to hack into Tanko’s and withdrew the sum of N187,100 cash from her GT Bank and the suspect has confessed to the crime. Exhibits recovered from Michael include one mobile handset, N10,000 cash, two pairs of shoes and clothes, amounting to about N33,000. The items were bought with the proceeds of the illegal withdrawal.

“The suspect is under investigation with a view to charging him to court. In line with the IGP’s vision and mission of the Operation Puff Adder meant to reclaim the public space from heinous criminal elements that are threatening internal security, the Gombe State Police Command is determined to ensure that Gombe State remains peaceful.”

Recall that Naira Marley was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in May 2019, shortly after his heated exchange with his colleagues in the entertainment industry on cyber crime. The "Am I a Yahoo Boy" crooner was subsequently arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos on 11 counts of cybercrime and credit card fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

A 34-year-old man, Yusuf Oladimeji, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into his father’s tenant’s apartment and stealing two phones and N150,000.

The defendant, who resides at Dopemu area of Agege, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate O.A. Aderibigbe.

The prosecutor, Mojirade Edeme, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large, on August 20 at his residence.

Mr Edeme said that the two phones worth N33,000, adding that the phones and the money belonged to the complainant, Peter Agbo.

“The defendant and his accomplices entered the complainant’s apartment with dangerous weapons at night and commanded him to surrender his phones and money or risk harm.

“They forcefully collected his valuables and took to their heels.
Some days later, the complainant saw his phone with his landlord’s son.

“He reported the case to the police, and the defendant was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

Mr Edeme said that offences violated Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ imprisonment for stealing, while Section 411 prescribes two years’ jail term for conspiracy.

Mr Aderibigbe itted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until September 9 for mention.

A Nigerian man who refused to share with his accomplices proceeds obtained from victims of a Love Scam syndicate was kidnapped by his countrymen in Batu Caves last Saturday.

However, he was rescued by the police following raids at two hotels, in Mahkota Cheras and in Selayang.

The victim, aged 32, was reported to have been kidnapped by six Nigerian men in two Honda City cars.

Gombak district police chief A Samsor Maarof said in the raid in Mahkota Cheras, police arrested three men and a woman, while another two men were arrested in Selayang.

“All those arrested are Nigerians, aged between 21 and 35. The victim was found safe,” he said on Sunday.

He said the Nigerian who was kidnapped had valid travel documents, while the six who were arrested did not possess valid travel documents.

It was found that the victim was kidnapped for refusing to distribute US$49,000 (RM206,559) which they had obtained through the Love Scam activities, he added.

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, wants the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to clampdown on those he described as Yahoo politicians in the country alleging that they are responsible for breeding the internet fraudsters giving the country a bad name abroad.

Frank asks the anti-graft agency to team up with international security agencies to fish out the yahoo yahoo politicians who suddenly became rich after their tenure of office.

According to him, a situation where a governor, minister or any other government appointee who was nowhere financially before they get into public office suddenly become stupendously affluent after their tenure in that office need to be investigated

According to him, until the EFCC and the IC stop protecting ‘Yahoo politicians’, both in and out of government, it will be difficult to discourage the prevalence of internet fraud being perpetrated by some young Nigerians.

Reacting to the long list of internet fraudsters released by the FBI recently, Comrade Frank said “corruption is gradually becoming a criteria to get appointment, especially under the current istration.

“The ‘Yahoo politicians’ are the role models of these ‘Yahoo Yahoo Boys.’ Those in government today are not immune. They have turned Nigeria to the capital of poverty in the world.

“The ‘Yahoo’ appointees and governors will throw elaborate parties and dinners once they assume public office because they see it as an opportunity to loot the treasury.

“When you look at the antecedent of most of the of recently inaugurated federal cabinet, majority of them have been guests of either the EFCC or the IC in the past. If known criminals are accorded such privileges, then, what is the government telling the young ones?

“It is only in Nigeria that an suspect and an anti-corruption prosecutor, would later become of the federal executive council.

“In a country where about 90% of citizens are living in abject poverty, the ‘Yahoo Yahoo politicians’ in the National Assembly have no qualms budgeting N5.5 billion to acquire choice SUVs for themselves. That most university graduates are roaming the streets jobless is a cause for concern.

“The Yahoo presidency fights corruption only on the pages of Newspapers, labels the opposition elements as thieves while it openly and consciously protects the armed-robbers within the government.

“Even the institutions established to fight corruption have been politicised and heavily compromised. They dare not torch the ‘yahoo politicians’ in the good books of the ruling party”.

He, urged the FBI to help Nigeria in the fight against corruption by clamping down on the ‘Yahoo politicians’ who brazenly steal public funds and run to oversea countries like United State of America and other European countries to enjoy their booty.

Frank also asked the FBI and INTERPOL to focus on Nigerian yahoo politicians and yahoo judges who award jaundiced judgements to the ‘yahoo presidency’ and the ‘yahoo politicians’ to the detriment of justice, democracy and the well-being of Nigerians.

The Niger State Police Command has arrested an unemployed man, Luba Udoka Jonah, who allegedly specializes in defrauding people by sending them fake bank transaction alerts.

Jonah was arrested after trying to defraud a car dealer in Minna.

The car Dealer, Abubakar Yahaya of TK Motors reported Jonah to the Police after the suspect sent him a bank alert which did not reflect in his bank .

According to Yahaya, the suspect came to car stand to buy a Mercedes Benz C240 model which they agreed at the rate of N2 million. He deposited N50, 000 before taking the car for test running.

However, after two days, the seller retrieved the car from the suspect following his refusal to pay the balance even though the suspect took his details to pay the balance of N1.950 million.

Upon receiving the alert from the suspect, Yahaya went to the bank only to be told that no money had entered into his .

This made Yahaya to report the suspect to the Police, which led to his arrest.

The suspect confirmed that he sends fake alert to his unsuspecting victims upon transacting business with them adding that this was made possible with an application which he uses to manipulate bank s.

He said he uses the fake bank alert to buy expensive things and leave the area immediately before the person can discover that he or she has been duped.

“There is one application I ed which I use to manipulate any bank number that comes my way. I have been defrauding innocent people of their money without them knowing about it.

“I can buy goods worth millions of naira in somebody’s shop, once I complete the fake transfer, the person will get alert on the spot and I leave the area immediately.”

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar urged the public to be discreet with their banking transactions in order to avoid falling prey to fraudsters.

He said that the case would be charged to court soon.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged and acquitted a former Senior Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, and a banker, Joseph Iwuejo, who were charged with N1.6bn fraud.

The court, in a judgment by Justice Mohammed Idris, said it found it difficult to convict the ex-presidential aide and the banker because the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission failed to prove the charges against them beyond reasonable doubts.

The judge held that the EFCC failed to call vital witnesses, including Jonathan, one Somprei Omeibi, the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and ex-National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, who were essential to the proving of the case.

Justice Idris said the failure of the EFCC to call Jonathan, Omeibi, CBN governor, and Dasuki to testify in the case was fatal to the case of the prosecution.

While saying that money laundering was difficult to prove, the judge said the prosecution tried its best to prove the case, but its best did not measure up to the expected minimum requirement to secure a conviction.

Justice Idris said the case of the EFCC was built on suspicion and suspicion, no matter how strong, could not be used to secure a conviction.

He held that the EFCC did not conclude an investigation before rushing to court, thereby living loopholes.

He dismissed the entire 22 counts against Dudafa and Iwuejo, discharged and acquitted them.

The defendants had been standing trial since 2016.
