Firstly, you don't need the Jews and Christians to agree on a matter about Islam before you believe it. As you never disbelieve in Jewish assertions because Islam is mute about it. And you don't need to discard what the Jewish and Christian books are saying about Abraham setting foot in Makkah as these books kept mute about the slave wife of Abraham who the Qur'an reported to have put to bed and visited by Abraham. Now check out the origin of ka'abah, hajj, and other Islamic doctrine which seem like a little moderation to the pre Islamic paganism. And you'd realise that it is not a moderation, but a sort of correction and reinstitution of the lost Ibrahim's practices

Muhammad/Islam adopted the practice with little modifications

1. Muslim kill the animal on the seventh day after birth
2. Muslim don't stain the head of the baby with the blood of the animal like the pegan use to do.

However, one thing I observed so far about most negative comments is this stress on 'RESPECT'. And that is the major problem with Nigerian marriages and Nigeria's sociocultural environment at large.
We interpreted respect as total submissiveness which I interpret as fear. (And that is what most people want in thier marriage relationship really;!).
However, respecting your opinion and suggesting something better which you might disagree with and end up discussing with your partner, makes you see things from each others perspective and that is respect. That is love. That is what make marriages work.
