Following that mail. I got series of calls again from very courteous ladies from the Spectranet customers service assuring me that the network issues in my area have been addressed and I should try them.
I subscribed to the 4Gig for 3k and I was happy I did. I was on Skype for 2 hours without a break. I update all my outdated softwares.
is it possible my first love has come back home to me?
Or I am just being deceived to subscribe again so that they can break my heart with maximum impact?

Such a happy ending...lets hope this reunion lasts smiley

Wow. Didn't know there was a thread dedicated to Ubuntu Linux. Have been dual booting Linux distros side by side with Windows for years until the advent of Windows 10. Since then I haven't looked back. Have abandoned Windows and now run Ubuntu Gnome on my 6-year-old Sony Vaio 8g RAM 320gb HDD. I very rarely run Windows in a virtual machine using Virtualbox. Here's a screenshot of my current desktop.

Nice to here your story, I have been dual booting for long as well but i decided this year to get a second hand laptop for Linux fully. Installed Kubuntu on it an hardly touch my Win laptop since then. Check out my screen

I'm in Abuja, so you can just get in touch with me for the unlocking. Meanwhile, if your device is that E5172s-925, NTEL won't work on it, but other devices are fine. And finally, NTEL is the king now....even as far as KuchiKau after Masaka....where I stay, it's damn blazing. grin cheesy

Woah, thats nice to know. I hope they upgrade quickly and give S/Lere fantastic service. I had a flickering one bar and it was blazing fast.
Looking forward to when I can boast of 3 bars on my modem. Speedtest showed 13Mb/sec as at the last time checked. Swift has not crossed 7Mb/s since i started using it.

Y don't u try cyberspace 4G LTE. I'm currently using it. Their data plans are cheap and the speed is good

Cyberspace? I thought they are B2B and dont provide individual or residential service. Please share the link where I can read up their plans/packages.
Thanks in advance.

I have been a Swift since 2012 and I haven't seen any reason to change to any other network up until now when Ntel popped up. Swift I will say has been relatively consistent and met my needs but i just hate how am restricted data wise. This applies to all networks anyways.
For me the catch is speed and the package.

Since Ntel has promised an uncapped data for N10k/month with their current speed then i will likely settle for that once their network coverage improves in S/Lere. If there service is not onsistent, I will stay with Swift.

To get out of owning too many ISP devices I went ahead to get a generic 4G LTE router, TP-link MR6400 so that I wont buy any network router again as far as 4G LTE is concerned. Just throw in my 4G SIM, configure APN, subscribe and then viola am online. This is my internet short to medium term strategy for now. Long term will FTTH, fibre to the home from hopefully ipNX (or whoever comes up) when their cable comes close to my abode or when i move close to them (whichever comes first) smiley

Hi

So this me thinking there must be something Linux/Open source can offer to our dear country Nigeria if only a collective & patriotic few can come together to work on it.
Yes, i mean you reading right now!

Because if you saw this topic and opened it then you are interested...am not wrong right? Of cos am right!

So here is how am thinking about it (pls note am very open to suggestions as this is my first time doing anything like this, tired of my comfort zone smiley
- First we start catching up on IRC channels (IRC means Internet Relay Chat, its Yahoo Msger-like. Buzz me if want to now more)
- Linux/open source and non-Linux s are welcome.
- We can cover software and hardware!!
- As we grow bigger we can then schedule face to face meetings for those in one state (it depends)
- Then we storm Naija with our amazing projects. Who knows NITDA might be interested with working with us.

How about that for a start (or better put dream)? So lets keep talking and see how this goes.

Waiting for your response...

Signed

sorry , i run debian not ubuntu
but i still had this error when trying to install an app

From what I can tell you are only trying to that app from Sourceforge.
In my opinion, I will not recommend your approach on using wget to install apps for now. Use the apt command as suggested by Maleeq and you should be fine.
Share your screenshot if you still encounter problems.

pls I want to lay my hands on Linux which one should I go for Ubuntu ? Fedora? Linux mint ? beside am planning on dual booting it with window system spec is Intel celeron n2830 500g ROM 2g RAM thanks

For your laptop I will recommend you look at lightweight distros. Apart from Xubuntu, Linux Lite and Puppy Linux are other suggestions.
Have fun in the process.

Linux is too big to restrict it to Fedora and Ubuntu...look for more and settle for the distro that really suits your needs. Check this site out; http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity for all distros.

KDE sadly has really been hit by the demise of Nokia and lack of corporate sponsorship. It should be recalled that Nokia owned Qt the toolkit framework which KDE is based as a result many KDE developers were sponsored by Nokia to work on Qt. Qt was all set to conquer the world and create a convergence UI that span from mobile, to desktop and KDE was all set to benefit. Then Elop happened, Nokia killed off Meego and by extension their involvement with Qt. Although Qt is still striving, development has slowed and as a result many KDE developers (especially the paid one) scaled back involvements.

The community bravely stepped up to the plate, but community effort is not enough to push the KDE and standards kde set. Dont get me wrong, project is still awesome and KDE 5 is looking good. But many projects are lack active maintenance (can't the last time Amarok had a release) and the result is lots of bugs which sometimes take time to fix. I even heard the oxygen project now lack maintainers sad.

Gnome on the other hand still has lots of corporate backing, especially from redhat and to some extent canonical. Gnome 3 has great polish although the usual annoying knack for hidden features and over simplification still plaques gnome. but a good hacker should be able to get round such silly limitations. I really enjoy gnome 3. Although it does come at a huge cost in ram.

Nice summary, I hope KDE picks up really quickly. I see it as the real winner in the UI convergence paradigm as far as community-driven Linux goes.
I am a KDE fan and Kubuntu does it for me. I might venture into Arch or Debian one of these days. Currently running KDE Neon on VirtualBox, who knows it might just be the next daily driver for me.
