[b]have you ever kissed a caucacian lady?

Yeah bro. I'm currently rolling-in-the-hay with one grin
how often do you see trans?

Paddy, they're plenty over here. You just have to be extra careful when fishing.

Do blacks and whites still have their separate churches[blacks were killed in a church in SC a year or two ago by a white jerk

It's kinda complicated bro. I don't go to church that often, but the few times I've gone, I opt for a Catholic church close to my house. I haven't noticed any skin color issues in church so far cos both blacks and whites attend the church. As for the killings, guy, guns are everywhere. That's another issue in the usa, guns.

Aren't there substance usage control agencies like the police, ?sars or ?ndlea over there?

There are bro, but wherever there's a seller, there's a buyer wink

Lastly, what's the difference btw the price of their food[?a plate] and 9ja food [?a plate] at a restaurant over there?

From what I've noticed, most of the major fast food enterprises serve burgers, sandwiches french fries and light stuff like that. The prices vary from outlet to outlet.

I haven't quite eaten at a nigerian restaurant yet, but from what I've heard so far, the price of the food would tear holes in your pocket.

Alright.

Pls, tell me about any of your encounters with racists

Honestly, I haven't encountered any open, knife-weilding, "go back to your country" racists. But I noticed racism is not just about skin color, cos some of the blacks (akatas) I come in with, most times feel "superior" to Africans initially. But after a few conversations, them go humble. in the real sense, we no be mate, their level no reach.

see just post anything new

culture shocks etc

One of the major culture shocks I've experienced here is the drug addiction "culture". Relative to the sheer mass of the USA, my sample size is quite small. But I must say, substance addiction is a MAJOR issue here. I've been working (and conversing) with different persons at my jobs for like 6 months (or thereabouts). I've only come across two people who don't do drugs. One of them was a pre-med student at UIC, the other was pregnant and she has just enough sense to stay off pills for the duration of her pregnancy, she picked up where she left off as soon as she gave birth though. I once worked with one lady who itted to popping pills and getting high every single day, "you know that's addiction, right?" I asked, her reply shocked me. She said "I'm here for a good time, not a long time." shocked

Na there I realize say my IUO and Uniport boys dey learn work grin

Most times, at my burger king job, it looks like I'm the odd one out simply because I dont do drugs. I don't care though, I no come USA to pop pills.

@franknetter, I have been following your thread religiously ever since you started and I must say that it is quite educating.

Talking about this post, if the US government takes care of its citizens why do they have homeless people on the streets? One of your posts on Instagram shows a beggar inside traffic why can't the government extend social security to these people?

That's an interesting question bro. I'll make some enquiries and get back to you. It should be noted that most of these people are drug addicts who are on the streets seeking for easy money for their next high.
Most of these drugs are so addictive, you can't just get off the train once you get on.

Here you go:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidnapping_in_the_United_States

There must be asportation before you call it kidnapping. Also, the Illinois kidnapping statue lists "carrying another from one place to another" as one of the elements of the crime.

With videos and stories like this popping up everywhere, I doubt if I'd ever get married. I value my peace of mind. Marriage is scary.

Franknetter, there's a lot of misconceptions about Africa. Most of the time, i'm always irritated by the ignorance of some people but with time, i got used to it.

I've seen people who thinks africa is a country, people who think all African live in the desert with a dung hut. I have a Cameroonian male friend who told me about someone asking him if he has wild animals like tiger or gorilla as pet before coming to the states.

I think the media has been a real disaster when it comes to Africa bevause they only show the deserts, people starving and animals everywhere. I have a friend who think Africa looks just exactly as what was shown in French Montana's Unforgettable video. It's just too funny

Yeah, the ignorance is so appalling.

Update

When I engage in conversations with persons who were born here and I tell them, with a smile on my face, that life is easy here, they look at me some type of way. They don't know how easy they have it over here, you wake up every morning, light dey, water dey, food dey, job dey, nobody is owing you salary, school dey, any level of education you want to get to, you can; plus by virtue of being a USA citizen, you have visa free access to more than 170 countries. Most of them take these things for granted, some have never even been to Canada.
I've met some ignorant people, I've had some ignorant questions thrown at me.
One time, I was having a conversation with one lady at my job, when one other dude jumped in and asked me, "hey obi, do you guys have toilets in Africa? I heard you have to dig the ground to take a _shit". The question cracked me up a lot, I doubled up in laughter and couldn't stop.

Most persons think africa is one big underdeveloped jungle, where we jump around half naked, with sticks and stones.

Being away from my medical books for so long, I've begun to feel like a cave man. grin
These CNA classes I'm taking right now has shown me how much I've forgotten, in a way it has helped me, I find myself squeezing in time to read once more. See me, that was bristling with knowledge, naming enzymes, biochemical pathways, courses of arteries etc etc struggling to , struggling to recollect. The knowledge is still there, I find it hard to regurgitate them though, but they pop up when I try hard enough.

=============================================================

As I was saying earlier, the Government takes care of everything and everyone. that's why they go after anyone who doesn't pay their taxes. In Nigeria, you're basically on your own, worse still if you have a Physical disability. Here in the USA, the government takes care of people who are disabled and cannot work at any job, they call it social security. You get a paycheck from the government every month, coupled with Home Health services: a program where someone would come in and take care of you through out the day.

Over here, people would gladly accept to be called disabled, looking at it objectively, they get a lot of free stuff from the government. So, what's there to be ashamed about?

Moving on

I've come across a lot of things. I've had conversations with a lot of people and I've learnt a lot from these conversations.
Working this burger king job has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of persons I would not meet on a normal day. It has given me the chance to interact with (and pick the brains of) different persons with different personalities and different backgrounds.

Those that are drug addicts, serial law breakers, those that live in their cars, those that have different kids from different baby mamas and daddies, those that aren't even up to 20 and have 4 kids already, those that are 18 and have their lives on track, living all by themselves, filing their own taxes and being independent. Engaging in conversations with a wide range of people from varying backgrounds has taught me a lot. A whole lot... If I had the chance to do this again, to take this job and mix with these same people all over again, would I do it? Hell yeah!

Life is all about perspectives. If someone had told me some years ago, that I'd be flipping burgers and throwing out garbage in some years time, I'd have laughed it off, but here I am, flipping burgers and kinda happy about it. It could be worse, right?

@FrankNetter I have been enjoying your write-up from the onset, what about Chi-town chics?, you ain't told us anything about them.

Chicks are literally everywhere. In church, in the library, at grocery stores etc etc. But honestly, the fear of women, unwanted pregnancies and child is the begginning of wisdom. grin

I heard National Association of Resident doctors (NARD) and ASUU are simultaneously on strike. I feel for medical students in Nigeria, honestly. Both strikes would affect them.

Guys, why isn't anything being done to curb the number of silly people popping up on nairaland?

Take a look at other forums, reddit for example. Once a thread is posted, if you drop a comment that isn't linked to the original content in anyway, your comment gets deleted. But here, silly, tribalistic, brain-dead comments are left out in the open. Honestly, what kind of image are we trying to portray to the world at large?
