uche87:
A high school friend with a heart of gold named Jamiu decided to open a WhatsApp group to connect all the old students of All Saints' College (ASCOL) Jericho reservation, Ibadan - precisely 2004 set with each other.
I almost cried when I was added to the group. I loathe WhatsApp group chats and I always have difficulties leaving the ones I have been added to prevent making the wrong impression. Jamiu is a unifier and I will forever respect him for his humble and peaceful nature. He loves to stay in touch with the high school family. He endured the embarrassment of talking several supercilious folks into being of the group. Trust my judgement, ASCOL had a lot of cocky guys who have achieved more than Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg in their imaginations. But that's not my focal point today.
In barely two months of the creation of the group, the death of one of us was announced on the platform. I rushed to check who it was and I was enveloped by shock when I discovered it was my secondary school crush, Boluwatife Ejiofoh. It was unbelievable and I apparently felt a blackout!
It was as if I instantly teleported back to the year 2001 at the SS 1 class when I first set my eyes on the wonderful soul.
I battled with low self-esteem when I got ission into All Saints' College, a private school where I spent the remaining three years of my secondary school education. You wouldn't blame me. I was coming from a public school - Government College, Apata, Ibadan (popularly called GCI till date) where vernacular was like the official language in the school. Most of my colleagues were generally from poor homes so we all felt comfortable with ourselves. All Saints' College was different, the students were divided into two major economic classes. The supposed children of the rich and that of the struggling. I belonged to the latter. While the pupils of the upper-class talked about designer wears, cars, houses, foreign music, exotic meals, computers, internet, new video game technologies, holidays and other good things of life, my gist couldn't meet up with theirs. They were even more fluent in the English language than me. For the first time in my life, I felt lost. I was difficult to deal with the feeling of looking like an outsider. Envy started to creep into my heart and I started wishing I was born into their class of families. During my days at GCI - an all-male school, I seemed popular among the girls at the extra moral classes I attended. I couldn't continue the feat at ASCOL. I thought I was a lion but I was just a mere cat, the one that makes funny noises around your windows at night.
I maintained a low profile relating with the people of my class. When I moved from the science class to the art class due to my challenges with my sums, Boluwatife was one of the upper-class girls that loved my style. She was interested in my story and my jokes. She was an open-minded beautiful, dark-skinned, busty and tall girl who appeared to have experienced life at the upper and lower strata. I think the massive size of her boobs made her easily noticeable among the female folks. She was a product of an intercultural marriage between Yoruba and Igbo individuals or so. We would sit down for long hours and talk about the Yoruba movies most people were ashamed of discussing. She particularly loved the characters of Baba Suwe, Moladun Kenkelewu and others in that circle. She loved laughing. She would laugh to the extent of shedding tears and at times might end up sitting on the bare floor. She was really crazy!
She will comfortably share my snacks with me and drink from the same bottle with me. She was to an extent careless with her body but not in an indecent way. She could hug you tightly despite being the opposite sex. She could sit on your laps while you guys talked. On some occasions, she would rest her soft bosom on my back while we discussed. I loved that feeling, I swear to God! Many started feeling erroneously that we were dating. As teenagers then we were excited about dating each other as we were just attaining puberty. I'm sure they wondered how an amateur and ill-equipped hunter like me would drag an elephant home from the forest.
My closeness to her helped me gain confidence and comfortability in my own skin. To my amazement, she easily looked down on the so-called upper-class guys which didn't go down well with them.
Most of them must have started feeling there was something special about me. Some of them would accost me on the road to make inquiries about Boluwatife. They wanted to know if we were dating. The feeling was so enjoyable even though there was nothing like that between us.
Gradually, I started proving my mettle academically as one of the top students in the school. I gathered strength that I was able to walk boldly around and tell my own stories from the world I belong to with the number of listeners increasing. Through me, Bolu became friends with other guys who later loved her personality. I liked Bolu but I didn't want to lose the friendship we shared so I killed the feelings. One thing my association with Bolu taught me was to be proud of who I am as well as my background. Till date, I confidently tell people my parents were civil servants and my first school fees at All Saints College was paid from a loan my father obtained from the bank for the purpose of giving me a better future.
In 2004, I ed my SSCE in flying colours and proceeded to the Obafemi Awolowo University while she went to Bowen University and we never spoke again. Then social media was absent. I ed Facebook in 2008 during my third year in school and I couldn't find her. Connecting with most of my old schoolmates was discouraging as many had moved on. They were very hostile and snobbish on Facebook. I moved on too and put the memories behind me.
I was devastated when I heard about Bolu's demise. She had already married with a lovely daughter. She stayed in the same city, Lagos with me and our paths never crossed. I wished I made extra efforts to connect with Bolu on Instagram while she was alive. I was told she died in the hospital on Wednesday night - 20th of March, 2019 after battling with an undisclosed ailment.
Even in the picture of hers that was used to announced her eternal exit, I could see the traces of pure laughter on her face. She was indeed a happy and free-spirited person. I have been staring at her picture for days now with guilt. I wish I reached out to her to express appreciation for the sense of belonging she gave me as a lonely and insecure young boy. I feel she might have lived if I prayed for her. I can't losing any close friend to the cold hands of death and I appreciate God for that grace. Since I heard the bad news, I have been feeling the grace could have been extended to Bolu if kept in touch as good friends again.
Death is inevitable but it comes with immense pains whenever it happens too early. Bolu died too young, she would have been 31 this year I think.
May God forgive her sins and grant her a special place in heaven. May He grant her family the fortitude to bear the loss. No amount of lamentations or tears will bring her back.
I want to use this medium to advise anybody reading this to cultivate the habit of checking on those special people who made positive impacts in their lives at different levels. We don't know what tomorrow holds. I wish I said a final goodbye to Bolu. I wish I could watch her laugh and roll on the floor as I share my regular childish gist. Sadly, dead bodies don't laugh.
Please, forgive me for not checking on you while that ailment squeezed your precious life out of you. You might be gone but you will always live in my heart. You are never over Boluwatife Ejiofoh.

kcboy34:
Good morning nairalanders,
I would like to share my little experience and the challenges I encountered at the INEC office in Orile-Agege LGA, Lagos.
First of all this information is not to discredit INEC as a body but to tell Nigerian's how the EO of INEC in Orile-Agege has compromised her responsibilities there.
I would try as much as possible not to mention names except the names of INEC officials.
Few Months ago I saw a thread on Nairaland about the recruitment of INEC Ad-hoc staffs by INEC, so being qualified for the job, I decided to apply on the Inec website for the job.
The next day I decided to go and really get information from the INEC office close to my home concerning the job, they told me that they are not accepting the online Applicants that you have to apply physically at the office for you to have any opportunity of getting the job...
Luckily for me the form was still on so I decided to fill the form. But before I got the form I had to beg and beg, they said form has finished and there was no time to photocopy because they were busy giving out PVC's.. I had to pay 1000 naira before they finally gave me the form to fill.
Then and there I descovered that they are not following the online requirements for application, anyone who hasn't even gotten to secondary school before can apply for a job meant for potential Corpers (Penultimate Students), Corpers and Ex Corpers.
Few weeks after I got a message from INEC asking me to come for 3 days training from Thursday 31st January 2019 to Saturday 2nd February, 2019. 2pm daily at Government College school Ipaja road, Agege.
I was extremely happy afterall efforts have not been wasted. So the Thursday came, I took permission earlier from work. I rushed down to the Government College by 12pm and I saw nobody. The security man told me that there was nothing happening there on that day and so I decided to check their office maybe they changed the location... When I got to their office they said they have Rescheduled the training days to Friday, Saturday and Sunday.... I went home very disappointmented at least they should have concluded plans before choosing date or better still, send us another text for the rescheduled date.
The NEXT day which was Friday I went to the training ground again around 2pm... See crowd just like a BBNaija audition center... Over 5000 people still waiting for the officials to come.
When they came, they started pasting names on the doors of each class room. Everyone started looking for their names... They just scattered names, I was wondering why they didn't input the names alphabetically to make it easier for people to see their names considering the large numbers of trainees and how big the school compound is...
It took me over 2 hours to see my name.
I entered the classroom, hooked up with some guys in the class. We were all waiting for everyone and everywhere to be calm... Around past 6. The SPO(Supervising Presiding Officer) introduced himself to us as our SPO and a Lecturer from Unilag. He started lecturing.
By past 7pm everywhere became dark so he stopped and told us to resume 8am in the class on Saturday.
The classes held from 8am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday (I had to miss church on Sunday to avoid stories).
NOTE: no form of exam/test was done in my class, we complained to him that other classes was writing exam. He said that exam would not be marked, that it was attendance that mattered most.
After the three days intensive training they said they would get back to us.
Few days after the training one of the guys I met at the training center called me that they have started pasting names of successful trainees at Their office, I told him maybe I wasn't chosen because I didn't see any text... He said nobody got text so I took myself to the INEC office that day... See another set of crowd looking for names...(what would it have cost them to send text to successful trainees, that would have reduced the crowd coming to look for names)
They pasted list on already pasted lists.. they didn't care if people choked their self to death... Come and see people fighting to look at list...(very disorganized)
To cut the long story short...
I saw my name as APO2. On the list some names came out 3,4 and 5 times on different wards and NO APO3 on all the lists.... Out of 60+ people in my class only 3 of us saw our names... Same thing applies to every class... Everyone started asking who are these names on the list.... We descovered that over 80% of names on the list didn't come for training....
I felt very bad for people that didn't see their names... The officials came out to address the people complaining about the list.... They said, they should all go to the RAC center that most names on the list will not come for the job, they would replace them with people available for the job....
On February 15th(Presidential Election Eve) I went to my RAC center at 3pm....(the whole world heard what happened and the conditions they left us in but unfortunately only the Corpers were mentioned in news... Nobody considered or talked about the other ad-hoc staffs)
On February 16th I got a call that they have started paying trainee fees so I rushed down to the INEC office only for me to see that only Corpers were being paid...
On February 22nd(reschedule presidential election Eve) I got another call that they started paying other ad-hoc staffs their training fees so I rushed down to the INEC office to collect my training fees... When I got there I saw a new list... They said we should look for our names again and write out the ward/unit and we are to use the information plus an ID card to get our 4500 naira.
To my greatest surprise I couldn't see my name on the list... They changed some names on the list... In my mind I said thank God I took pictures of the list where my name is and my SPO,PO(Corper) and APO1 can testify to it. They replaced my name with a name without phone number... We couldn't call the person to know who the person was ... I wasn't the only one with this issue.... I went in to explain the situation... The INEC officials said they can't pay me if my name is not on the new list... I even showed him the picture of the the list where my name is and he said "sorry we are working with this new list"... In my heart I felt pain... I have been robbed of my hard earned labour and I have nobody to fight for me....
I asked them if I can still do the ad-hoc job, they said yes.... The INEC officials said I should just move with my team to the RAC center (which means that they know that those names they replaced us with are ghosts, they won't come for the job)..
I also asked on what assurance do I have that I would be paid after working... They said the attendance of those that worked would be used to pay us not this list...
So I accepted my faith, went home, freshened up, moved to my RAC... All my sufferings would not be in vain... After all I have had sleepless night at the RAC before, done 3 days stressful training so I have more to loose if I don't go....
I got to the RAC around 6pm, met with my team... Waited for materials to come in...
This time they gave us Mat to sleep on, they gave Corpers Camp bed to sleep on....
Around 11pm election materials started coming in...
Around 12am They called all the PO's(Corpers) and started distributing materials to them...
They finished disturbing the election materials around 4am on election day...
The INEC official(Mr Deji) at our RAC(Ward8) started calling attendance with the list they used in paying trainee fees...
The SPO's complained that most people on the list given to them are not around... They had shortage of manpower...
It was already 6am Mr Deji said orders was given to him by the EO not to replace anyone...
Some polling units had only one person on ground.... EO has removed all APO3 so 1 man(PO) is left to do the job of 4(PO, APO1,APO2 and APO3).
The Corpers said they can't go to field without complete team... People like me were on ground to fill in but Mr Deji said No...
I don't want to work for free, I called some other people at other RAC(under same EO) they said their SPO's had replaced absentees with people on ground since 3am...
9am Corpers were still at the RAC, election observers, Media and the likes have started coming to know what is happening at our RAC(ward 8 awa ul islam primary school at oba akran road headed by Mr Deji)..
We(those of us that was robbed) started begging the Corpers to go because we didn't want the election to end up badly...
As at 10am the Corpers left the RAC.
At 11am Mr Deji left the RAC with a danfo(yellow bus)
Unknowingly to us he went to pick up his people wherever they were to replace the vacant spots...
The Corper I was suppose to work with called me around 12pm that Mr Deji brought someone to his RAC to fill in the empty space APO 2 (my rightful position)..
He told the Corper that they took me to another polling unit... While they left us all at the RAC...
Some people that their names isn't on the "new list" and still followed the corpers to the polling units were changed around 1pm, they brought them back to the RAC...
Now these people wasn't trained nor through the stress people like me ed through....
The only names they didn't tamper with was the names of Corpers...
The reason I am sharing my experience with Nigerians is for them to know what people like me who doesn't have anyone in high position is ing through....
It is obvious that Mr Deji has used his position to compromise the election process at ward 8 and I am of the believe that the EO is aware because she came to the RAC around 5am... She didn't come down from the bus... She called Deji into the bus, they spoke for few minutes and she saw the situation on ground but didn't interfere... The SPO's called her attention to the issue but she told them that Deji would handle it then she drove off...
There are 41 polling units and 8 voting points at that Ward... Ward 8 has been compromised by Mr Deji the RAC center official.
Please pardon my grammatical errors if any and kindly help me push this to front page so the world can see this...
I would still post this on other social media platforms as I have no money to sue INEC for the pains they made me through....
I believe someone with a good heart and the might would stand up to fight for us.... It's unfair.
Thanks.
Clifford Kelvin.
Eh yah! sorry bro. same thing also happened to me at that same Orile agege INEC office. After parabulating d place so much until d election was postponed on Feb16, I just lost hope in the job already cos I attended d 3days rigorous trainings. I later went there on Feb20 cos I was informed that they are paying training allowances only to get there to meet nothing ( was devastated cos I wasted my tfare that fare). Then I noticed that d lists pasted on the walls has all been washed out only to be told another new sabotaged list is gonna be released d next week.
What pained me most was that i wasn't paid my training allowances after all the stress and money I've wasted.
But I have already leave them to their creator

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has barred Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or listing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ehime/Mbano/Ihitte Uboma Federal Constituency (Okigwe South) in Imo State,in the rescheduled February 23, National Assembly election.
The development sealed the hope of the APC of fielding any candidate for Okigwe South as the spate of losses suffered by the party continues unabated. This followed similar losses in Zamfara and Rivers states.
Justice Bello Kawu dashed the hope of the party when he declared as unconstitutional, illegal, null and void the primary election conducted for the federal constituency.
A House of Representatives aspirant, Mrs. Uzoma Chioma Ann, had filed a suit against the APC and two others, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, in the Bwari Judicial Division holden at Kubwa, Abuja, before Justice Kawu, seeking the nullification of the nomination of Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, as its candidate for the Okigwe South Federal Constituency, in Saturday’s elections. She claimed Nwajiuba’s emergence violated the party’s rules and guidelines.
Also ed as defendants in the suit were the APC and the INEC, as first and third defendants, respectively.
In his ruling, Justice Kawu cited various authorities and concluded that Nwajiuba’s nomination was “inappropriate, unlawful, null and void for failure to comply with the first defendants guideline for nomination of candidate.”
He also barred INEC “from further recognising, accepting or listing the second defendant’s name as the candidate of the first defendant in the 2019 ballot paper for Okigwe South House of Representatives election because the first defendant (APC) did not conduct primary for the office.”
Justice Kawu further held that having considered the case of the plaintiff and all authorities cited by the learned counsel, he was of the strong view that the question that calls for determination by the court was whether proper procedure was followed for selection or nomination of the second defendant as a candidate of the first defendant for Okigwe South Federal Constituency.
The court, which cited relevant sections of the Electoral Act 2010(as amended) and the APC constitution, said notwithstanding the provision of the Act or rules of political party, “an aspirant who complains that any of the provisions of the Act and the guideline of a political party has not been complied with in the selection or nomination of a political party for election, may apply to the Federal High Court as or the High Court of a state for redress.”
However, Nwajiuba, a lawyer and former lawmaker, had sensed and cited that the legal land mines had smartly left the party to pick the ticket of the Accord Party on which he is presently running, while the incumbent representative of Okigwe South, Chike Okafor, took up the ticket after another controversial primaries.
https://www.sunnewsonline.com/court-bars-inec-from-accepting-apc-candidate-for-okigwe-south/
I just don't know wetin concern this courts with d affairs of INEC or political parties. Its d choice of the party to field any candidate even it is a dog and the masses vote for it. I think its time courts stop focusing on political parties and there candidates. there are lot of others unsolved cases for God's sake

I surely hope the OP is not trying to mix up Inyass and the Holy Prophet in the above statement cos they are not the same. Inyass is the guy from Senegal that some people will be committing shrik by plastering his pictures everywhere and claiming to be use it for protection. And even going to the extreme of bowing down to his picture which could be likened to the Highest form of shrik.
And even if they claim to be celebrating the birth of the Holy Prophet its still not permitted as we never ever read it from the Hadith, Sahaba or the prominent four imams doing it.
Hence people should kindly desist from it... We have neither completed the obligatory duty nor sunnah but people be jumping on the band wagon of innovative duties...SMH.
May Allah guide us aright and count us among the successful ones both in this life and the hereafter...Amin

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has threatened to sue the Federal Government following his involvement in a road accident.
The human rights lawyer had broken his leg after falling into a manhole while walking to his office in Abuja.
He promised that he would not leave the matter to God like the ordinary Nigerian would, but will sue the government on Wednesday.
Falana who made this known while delivering his speech at the National Stakeholders Summit on Whistleblowing in Abuja on Tuesday said, “I am sure you saw me limping and using a walking stick when I was coming in. It is because I fell into a manhole while walking to my office on Shehu Shagari Way.
“I broke my leg and I am even wearing Plaster of Paris and I was even hospitalised. So, I won’t like the ordinary Nigerian leave it to God.
“I have decided that tomorrow I will sue the Federal Government.”
