Don't let anyone tell you that you need a degree to get a job as a dev. If you want a degree then get one, but don't feel like you have to. You need to sell your skills to employers, a degree is just one component. certifications, published research, etc; are all valid too. Your degree is only important to Tech companies in Nigeria that pays 20-50k per month. I can't speak for how other countries see degrees, but they are definitely not always required to work as a dev in either the UK or US. Then again, I'll freely it that sometimes, it is harder and requires more work to find a job without a degree, but it is not even close to impossible. 1 Like |

First, find people of your same level to hang around with, that can explain things in your own (experts explaining things over your head really sucks). Second, get a Raspberry Pi. Start "sysing" the Raspberry Pi. Find fun projects. At some point, start playing around with networking on it. Explore all the fun command-line tools, like 'traceroute'. Use 'openwrt' as your home router and "net" that heck out of that. Now install web services on your RPi and play around with that, watching how your web server can serve raw HTML containing CSS and JavaScript. Create your own website. Now buy a domain name and push out to an AWS server. Make a LAMP app that serves stuff from an SQL database. Now hack your server with SQL injection. Keep playing with bad server-side scripts until you get good at SQL injection. Play with Chrome "Developer Tools" to explore how websites construct their web pages. Now it's time for JavaScript. Spend some time learning abstract programming language theory with JavaScript as well as practical fun with it both inside the browser ("Developer Tools" again) and on the command-line ("NodeJS"). My best learning came not from mentors, but from people my own level. They, too, can suck, I still bitterly resent that 18 year explaining 'arrays' to me in a totally messed up manner when I was 14. But it's through talking about such things that we acquire knowledge. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Take a breath internet. Facebook cant track you across the entire internet for however long this outage is. for a brief few hours, "do not track" is actually working xD 1 Like |

Heard FB employees are unable to enter buildings to begin to evaluate extent of outage because their badges weren’t working to access doors. IMO this is the most sweetest thing I think I've ever heard. Facebooks door locks are IOT and rely on internet and dns - and because bgp routes took out all their dns, the door locks don't work anymore. So if today isn't a really really good example of "hey if you don't ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO PUT IT ONLINE, maybe don't put it online". Not EVERYTHING has to be cloud-enabled. Not EVERYTHING has to phone home. |

A bunch of Facebook networks has disappeared from the internet. This is the facebook.com authoritative setup: 2 DNS have disappeared from the global internet routing table, the other 2 are otherwise unreachable.

The hacker returned the money because they asked him nicely. You're a hacker and you've just stolen 600 million dollars. You know you can't keep it. What do you do with it to cause maximum havoc? Option 1: Write a smart contract that allows withdrawing 1% of the current balance once daily from an address Deposit 600M Publish private key to address Watch daily reorgs occur for months on end Option 2: return the money. 36 Likes |

BarrSly:Switch to Vmware workstation. After installing and launching the Kali instance, navigate to VM, removable devices and select your adapter to the Kali VM. Alternatively, you can plug it in after running the Kali instance. It should prompt you on whether you want to use the adapter on the host OS or Kali VM. 2 Likes |

BarrSly:A quick reminder that the seller probably isn't an hacker. I have one of those "with the same chipset as the description" laying around and it injects packets like a beast. But go whatever you feel ok with.

Sometimes I think about quitting my job for no reason other than I'm curious if I could make it in another industry. Working in tech doesn't feel like being successful, it feels like the final stage of a stock market bubble where everyone is convinced they're Warren Buffet. Would like to know if you guys can you survive if you stopped working in tech? 11 Likes |

So let's explore why I think people are irrational about thinking we can vote from phones. To make internet voting in Nigeria work, you first need to have a voter's card. This is ironic because this would mean you need to propose an internet voting that needs more of an ID requirement which voting laws shouldn't have. A question that might pop up in everyone's mind is, "But EvilSec, this doesn't quite add up??" Here, let me explain. Online banking works because banking tracks every transaction back to the . The principle of voting is that you cannot track votes back to the person who cast them. Voting is anonymous: you can track the fact people voted, but not who they voted for. The most important attribute of a voting system is "trust". If it's computerized, anybody can make spurious accusations that the election has been hacked, and without non-computer records, there's no way to refute. Well I think it's actually easy, something that a university student can do as a project. It'll require minor changes to the requirements we have with voting to match what's possible with cryptographic protocols.... But by "easy" I mean "in retrospect". It'll be a whole lot of infighting about exactly which requirements we are allowed to change, such as having a ID requirement. P.s. I don't want to discourage serious work in this space, but if it's "simple": 1 Someone thought of it already; 2 It doesn't work in practice 2 Likes |

You must be really smart to want to learn and be proficient in 7+ programming languages by just "taking zoom/whatsapp lessons".

Bahat:They can't intercept jack sh!t man. Normal phone calls and messages? Yes, they can intercept that. Whatsapp calls and messages like they just claimed? Hell no. Even WhatsApp can't decrypt the messages or sniff calls, only the ends can. That's what end-to-end means, nothing in the middle "like the government" can decrypt sh!t. I know money goes around around in the govt and they loot alot, but 4+ billion for a non existent crap is just too much man. |

tunaxy:In three more years you will be 33. And when that time comes you will be saying one of two things: “I've been coding for 3 years!” Or 2. “I'm 33, is it too late to start programming?” Don't be number 2. Because the only thing that will have changed is how long you've been asking yourself the same question. Also, quick advice. - learn programming because you enjoy programming, deep thinking, problem-solving, etc… If you learn to program because you think there’s money in it (and there is) you’re unlikely to be successful or happy. Money in this field is a slow start, and that’s a snails pace if you don’t actually enjoy programming. - If you generally have trouble sticking with things, programming may not be for you 10 Likes |
