Alejo2000:
Hello fellow Nairalanders,
I find myself at a crucial crossroad in life and would greatly appreciate your valuable insights and diverse perspectives. I have worked diligently in a private organization for 15 years, managing to save up to N20 million. Additionally, I own a 3-bedroom apartment. and a few plots of land in three different states in Nigeria.
Current Situation:
Recently, I was disengaged from my job, and this has prompted me to contemplate a major life decision. I am 45 years old, and my wife is 42 years old. Together, we have three children, two of whom are in secondary school.
Contemplating Relocation:
Given the circumstances, I have been seriously considering the possibility of relocating to another country with my family via study route. Two countries have caught my attention: the UK and Canada. I believe that I still have around 15 years of active career working life by the Grace of God, and I am open to exploring new opportunities abroad for the betterment of my family's future.
Reasoning:
The motivation behind this move is to provide my children with a better education and quality of life while also embracing new experiences. However, I am fully aware that this is not without risks, as it would involve utilizing my lifetime savings and making a fresh start in a foreign land.
Seeking Your Advice:
I humbly seek your honest advice and opinions on this matter. Here are some key points to consider:
Family considerations: How will relocating impact my children's education and overall well-being?
Age and career transition: Is starting anew in a foreign country feasible, considering my age and ing background as my profession?
Financial stability: Should I be concerned ing my savings for this move? What steps can I take to ensure financial security in a new country?
Visa and immigration: What are the challenges and best practices in obtaining permanent residency in the UK or Canada?
Job opportunities: How promising is the job market for ants in these countries? Are there viable prospects for career growth?
Investment options: Alternatively, what investment opportunities in Nigeria can provide a stable income stream for my family?
Conclusion:
I am deeply grateful for any advice, personal experiences, or suggestions you can provide. Your valuable insights will play a significant role in shaping this crucial decision for my family's future.
Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond to my post. Your means a lot to me and will help me make an informed choice.
Warm regards,
Better use that 20m and set up a good business

I know pharmacy is business related and medicine is not

. pharmacy is more diversified and lucrative. If you have plans of traveling out after school, then pick medicine.
So medicine isn't lucrative in Nigeria? And pharmacists don't leave the country easily?

yuping:
Anytime any day pick Medicine is very diversified compare to pharmacy, any body can be a pharmacist even Emaka for shop self na pharmacist him be, as long as you have money you can have a pharmacy of your own employ as many nurses. Medicine is unique and don't let anyone scare you if you can dedicate your time its enjoyable.
Ok
Are you a pharmacist or a doctor?

Your ignorance stinks to high heavens!
Community pharmacies are not "chemist shops"! They're primary healthcare providers! I don't blame you, I blame the authorities that still license quacks to trade on drugs in this 21st century. Go to even our neighboring Ghana, there are no such thing as patent medicine dealers! Only licensed pharmacists deal on drugs there! Mind you, life expectancy in Ghana is far better than Nigeria due to their organised healthcare system!
FYI, every drug is a potential poison and only pharmacists can guide you properly on how to use drugs to avoid the poisonous effects. In community pharmacies, pharmacists not only dispense prescribers prescriptions, they also counsel patients on how to use their drugs, they follow up patients who are suffering from chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, kidney failure etc. They help such patients avoid the dangerous effects of their long term medications so they can live long and good quality lives.
Also, in some community pharmacies, compounding of extemporaneous medications take place. Need I remind you that community pharmacies are now vaccination centers for covid19.
Now generally speaking, pharmacy profession in much more broad than medicine and unlike medicine, pharmacists can change from one aspect to another. They can navigate from community pharmacy to industrial pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, academic pharmacy, regulatory affairs pharmacy, istrative pharmacy etc. Only thing is that you have to resign in one before you the other as your license cannot be used in multiple places at the same time.
Again, some of us chose pharmacy over medicine because it is easier to establish oneself on private practice in pharmacy than in medicine, in of financial cost and time required to open a private practice.
Medicine is good but as a matter of fact, pharmacy has much more options aside hospitals. Pharmacists who are interested in research also stand better chances of breaking through in research and gaining international recognition compared to medical doctors. So, next time before you expose your ignorance for the world to see, do your research well.
It is really a diverse profession
I'm a pharmacy aspirant
