Are you aware that sometime in 1939 some Anioma communities in present day Delta and Edo states was carved out of the core Igbo heartland despite protests from Anioma kings then to the British colonial authorities? The same period the Ezza community of present Ebonyi state was carved into Benue state of present day. Again, in 1976 during the Murtala Mohammed regime, Ahoada and Port Harcourt was ceded to Ijaw dominated River state. Do you still wonder how Igbo speaking people are now minorities in other states? This was carried out despite rejection by the people to the Willink commission on boundary adjustment. Still in 1976, oil rich Obigbo LGA in Aba division of old Imo state was ceded to Rivers state. Obigbo is Ndoki clan and has over 50 oil wells, they are pure Igbo people separated from their Azummili kins by the Imo river. Ohugbu, an oil rich Ndoki community was ceded to Akwa Ibom state. Ohugbu is one of the highest onshore gas and oil producing area. In the same 1976, the Egbema community was balkanized into three towns with the highest oil producing town ceded to River state from old Imo state. Same time too, Ndoni was carved out of Aboha and given to Rivers state. Ndoni and Ogbaru are same people. Ogbaru is in Anambra with some of their kinsmen in Delta state. We know that these oil producing areas of Igbo land was the highest oil producing areas pre 1966 and that the Hausa/Fulani led military government has partitioned our land in other to remove Igbo land as the highest oil producing region in the land. The envious Hausa/Fulani government acted contemptuously in other to gain control of our oil and soon after these sordid act, they started sharing our oil wells to themselves hence, today they control almost eighty two of such. This is where I expect Ohaneze to act. They should do all within their ability to recover all our lands dubiously ceded to other regions. Only then can we see them as true representatives of our people. 1 Like |

The federal government has been commended for the rearward, quality and speed of the ongoing rehabilitation of the 9th Mile – Opi Nsukka Road. Stakeholders and road s who expressed delight at the rate the reconstruction works were being handled by the contracting firm, Arab Contractors, also commended the former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and others for facilitating the project. Seeing Ekweremadu as the leader of the facilitators, the stakeholders most of whom are from Enugu West Senatorial District described him and their two other representatives, Hon. Toby Okechukwu and Hon. Dennis Amadi as three wise men. They described Ekweremadu as a unique statesman, a leader worthy of celebration, and one who always keeps to his words. One of them a university lecturer, Dr. Obinna Eze said Ekweremadu is a leader that has been able “to move above and beyond any egoistic and primitive need for power, attention, or establishing his personal agendas and works with the intention of good-for-all. “It is very unusual to see political leaders these days keeping their words with the people instead ‘they are going to do one thing while they intend to do another. Then they do neither what they said nor what they intended, so I consider Senator Ekweremadu as the real superhero because it takes a great leader like him to keep to his words by making sure that this road project to Opi Nsukka becomes a reality.” |

Leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Chief Edwin Clark, has said former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, should have allowed Igbo to secede at the start of the civil war in 1966. Clark said this during an interview on Arise TV, where he condemned unfair treatment meted to the South East through concentration of power in the northern region. He stressed the need for the region to be treated with a sense of belonging and called for political parties, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to zone their presidential tickets to the South East. He said: “My idea of zoning the presidency to the South East is well known. No Nigerian will like to live in a country where certain people believe they have the only right to lead. The APC believes the 12 million votes by President Muhammadu Buhari might be eroded, if it is zoned to the South. The PDP is also considering zoning to the North. This is unfair. “Nigeria stood on three legs, and it has never been steady since one of the legs was destroyed during the Civil War. I unpacked all these facts in my forthcoming memoir, Brutally Frank.” He said there was no moral justification for keeping people who are not being treated fairly, stressing that the region must be accorded sense of belonging. Clark said it was unacceptable for a region to have a domineering spirit because of its population, adding that those opposed to a South East presidency in 2023 are ready to see the end of Nigeria. He said: “Gowon should have allowed the Igbo to go, if they are to be treated as second-class citizens. If zoning, which will heal the wounds, is not done, there will be no Nigeria. Nobody will remain in this country as a second-class citizen. “The North believes their population can be used to oppress other Nigerians. This is not acceptable. The era of that has gone. There are many good Northerners but the Fulani-oriented ones want to dominate everywhere.” 2 Likes |

Governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike has stated that he s the agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) but he is against the violent activities linked to the group. Recall that IPOB and its security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN) have been blamed for the violent attacks in the south-east and parts of south-south. But the proscribed group has denied involvement in the violent attacks in the south-east. Speaking on Tuesday in an interview with Channels, the Rivers governor said there was a time Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB’s leader, was singing his praises over his for the group’s agitation. Wike added that his problem with IPOB started when they allegedly came to Rivers to set ablaze government properties and force their hip on the residents of Rivers.

Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that Israel grant his country control of the Alexander Courtyard in Jerusalem as the previous Israeli government had promised, in a letter delivered to Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett last Sunday. According to The Jerusalem Post, Putin’s letter came barely a day after the Foreign Ministry in Moscow slammed Foreign Minister Yair Lapid for accusing Russia of war crimes in Ukraine, saying that Israel is using Ukraine to cover up for its own conflict with the Palestinians. The Russian Foreign Ministry also summoned Israeli Ambassador Alexander Ben Zvi for a reprimand on Sunday. Transferring the ownership of the church land could cause diplomatic trouble for Israel at a time when its Western allies have been sanctioning Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. Church of St Alexander Nevsky, Jerusalem. (photo credit: Wikimedia Commons) The Alexander Courtyard, also known as the Alexander Nevsky Church and the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, is in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City. Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised Putin that Russia could take over the landmark in 2020, as one of a series of gestures meant to help free Naama Issachar, an Israeli woman held in a Russian jail on drug charges. Soon after, Israel’s Land Registry commissioner listed the Russian government as the owner of the church. The current Russian government, sued, arguing that the transfer of ownership was political. Kaduri said that Prime Minister Naftali Bennett would have to decide because it is a diplomatic matter. Former Russian prime minister Sergei Stepashin, chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, said during a visit to Israel in recent days that Russia is “fighting for a return of the compound, and it is very difficult.” Stepashin accused Israel of “playing both sides, playing ping pong” on the issue. 2 Likes |

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Just received from a friend. I think it's time we stop over focussing on this PDP/APC, PMB and the rest issues and start looking where our problem is. I believe our problem is in the institutions of this country. I don't want to mention that of police now. It's for another day. On the 14th day of March, I drove into one of the police stations to obtain the new tinted glass permit. In the process, it was discovered that the plate number of my car is being used by another car. My first question is "How is it possible?" Because I obtained this number from FRSC with all documents intact. I never knew that the car was going to stay for 12 days in the station. A file was quickly opened and the car became an exhibit. Thank God the car was ed by a very high ranking officer of the FRSC who was brought to the station. As the investigation was going on, it was discovered that some people were producing these fake and duplicate number plates and giving out to innocent and unsuspecting Nigerians thereby ripping them off of their hard earned money. My question is, should we now go and buy this number plates at a shop in Alaba or at Idumota instead of the Federal Government approved agencies? In the course of my research, I stumbled upon the Number Plate Verification System online. I started ing Cars of Friends, Church and even cars that I see on the road. A shocking Revelation was made that OUT OF EVERY 10 CARS you see on the road with LAGOS and ABUJA number plates, that at least 4 is FAKE. You can check your own now. (1 )Go to https://nvis.frsc.gov.ng/VehicleManagement/PlateNo (2) Enter your number in the space provided. Eg "ABC863AP (3) Click on button. Then an information will be displayed below the button. Because FRSC don't want the general public to see the full details of the registration, you will only see the name of your car and the date of registration. Here are some samples: 1. This number plate has been produced by FRSC and assigned to Toyota Highlander on 20/01/2015. If your car is Toyota Highlander, then you are lucky its done. But if your car is for instance Toyota Camry and your Verification shows the above message, then you are in as me. #Solution is to go and Re- your car afresh. 2. This number plate has been produced by FRSC and assigned to Matrix however the vehicle is yet to be ed. If your car is Matrix, then just go back to the person that ed your car and tell him/her to complete your registration. 3. This number plate has been produced by FRSC but yet to be assigned to any vehicle. It means that they just gave you a number plate that is not even ed in their system. Solution is to go to them to your car and your information. 4. An Invalid/Wrong number plate. Do I need to explain this?. NO. your car first and sort yourself out with the FRSC before you even proceed to police for tinted permit because, if police are the ones to find out, then you know what follows. Many Innocent Nigerians are suffering now because of the impunity in our institutions Note: This verification is only applicable to the number plates with this format ABC123AB not AB123 ABC. Let us spread this news until everyone is aware of this evil FRSC is perpetuating. |

Ghana cedi ranked 2nd worst among 15 top-performing currencies in Africa The Ghana cedi has been ranked as the second worst-performing currency. The local currency has depreciated by 4.70% to the US dollar. A report by Joy Business indicated that the cedi is currently trading at GH¢6.60 to one US dollar on the forex market. The depreciation has been attributed to upside risks to the economy including high debt and interest payments, inadequate revenue, and rising expenditure. The report stated that the Zambian kwacha which was one of the top-performing currencies in Africa in 2021, is the worst so far in 2022. It has declined in value by 11.29% to the dollar. Earlier, Bloomberg tracking of African currencies revealed that the Ghana Cedi placed 14th on the league of African currencies in 2021. The local currency was classified among the currencies with the 'worst spot returns'. According to Bloomberg, the cedi lost 4.98% in value against the US dollar in 2021, although data from other research institutions show a slightly lower decline in the value of the local currency to the American currency. In the West Africa sub-region, the cedi placed 3rd in of performance. See the table below for the top-performing currencies in Africa.

Chief Mbazulike Amechi, popularly known as ‘The boy is good’ was a first republic parliamentarian and first post Independence Minister of Aviation. He was a strong member of the defunct Zikist Movement and since the first bloody military coup on January 1966, which sacked the politicians, Amechi has been living in his community, Ukpor in Nnewi South local government area. He spoke on his experience: ON the coup: On January 15, 1966, themy struck and turned the weapons which we issued to them to defend the country, on the government and the leaders that issued the weapons to them. In the process, they killed the Prime minister of the country; they killed the premier of the West; they killed the premier of the North. They were about to kill the premier of the East but what saved Dr Michael Okpara was that Archbishop Macarious, the president of Cyprus, was his guest that night and probably they wouldn’t want war between Cyprus and Nigeria. On the other hand they could not kill Chief Dennis Osadebey because there was no Army in Benin at the time of the coup and so Osadebey managed to escape. They also killed Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh, the Federal Minister of Finance. They also killed some of their own group. For example, Brigadier Maimalari was innocently killed. My close friend, Colonel Arthur Unegbe was also killed. He was in charge of the Armoury and because he was reluctant to release the Armoury to them, they shot and killed him in his house. Since then, Nigeria has never been the same and Nigeria has never attained anything near the dreams of the founding fathers and nationalists and fought for independence of the nation. Many people had the impression that the coup was tribal in nature in view of the way casualties were recorded. I don’t know about that but I have told you the reason why Okpara could not be killed. I was going home myself. The first time the military entered the Midwest, I met them at Abudu because my wife had a baby at Charles Borromeo Hospital at Onitsha and that day they were to be discharged from hospital. So after the parliamentary session on 14th January, 1966, I drove from Lagos through Benin. I slept in Benin so that I could get to Onitsha in good time to be able to pick my wife and the baby. They were moving to Benin from Enugu or so. By then I didn’t know that something happened in the night because it was already morning. My car was carrying the NCNC and the Nigeria flag and at Abudu, one Army jeep swerved off the road and ran into our lane. My driver swerved into the field and the jeep came into the field also. An Army captain came out of the jeep and ordered his driver to move on. I didn’t know a coup had taken place. I just took it that the soldiers could be drunk and could do anything. It was only when I got to Onitsha that my mother in-law told me that the Army had taken over government and killed the prime minister and others. She said the radio had been announcing it and that was how I knew that there was a coup. There and then, I told my driver to remove the flags on the car. By then, the coup plotters had announced that Dr Nwafor Orizu, the acting president had been removed because the president, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, was abroad on medical trip. They said they were handing over the government to General Aguiyi Ironsi and were expecting a broadcast. So I rang my confidential secretary, one Mrs. Marinho to go to my house in Ikoyi to ask one Joe Obi to pack all my things, separating government property from my own and put my things in a lorry and send home. That was how I ended my ministerial appointment. By the third day of the coup, everything I had was at home here and I said thank God. Well, the Army took over and they continued to blunder. They continued to do what they were trained to do; that is to destroy; to kill and to loot. Then the quarrel between two Lieutenant Colonels – Ojukwu and Yakubu Gowon – eventually led the country to a civil war. Ojukwu said he was senior to Gowon and that Gowon cannot be the head of state when he (Ojukwu) was a governor. Killing of Igbo soldiers Gowon said if you want to be head of state, come to Lagos so that soldiers could take order from you. The argument continued until it led to the killing of Igbos in the north and killing of Igbo soldiers all over the country, with one of them buried alive in Ibadan. The young man had insisted on not doing what they wanted and they threatened to kill him. He said he was prepared to die; after all it was only one bullet that could kill him. So they told him they were not going to waste a bullet on him and buried him alive after forcing him to dig his grave. He was a major in the Army. A lot of atrocities were committed then. What do you think could be the reason for the coup? I wouldn’t say I knew the intention of the boys who took over government because Ademulegun and other Yoruba officers never itted that it was an Igbo coup. It only happened that there were more Igbo officers involved in the coup because there were so many Igbo officers in the army at that time. 3 Likes |

This is as the airline noted that it does not discriminate against the South East, adding that it is the same fare that is loaded for all the routes all over Nigeria. “Our fares start from N23,000, and progress to N60,000 which is our highest Economy Class fare. For a 136-seat capacity aircraft(12 Business and 124 Economy), the fare is allocated thus: N23,000 – 10seats; N27,500 – 20 seats; N30,000 – 25seats; N33,000- 15seats, N35,000 – 15seats; N42,000 – 10 seats; N47,000- 5seats; N50,000 – 5seats, N55,000 – 5seats and N60,000 – 14seats. The airline further explained that as the aircraft gets fuller, the higher fares start showing up, and on the Eastern routes, because of traffic, get sold out faster than some places thereby showing higher fares faster. But the other destinations, though slower, will also pay the same higher fares as they get fuller too, the airline stated. The airline management stated that it is highly mischievous of anyone to be accusing Allen Onyema and Air Peace of ethnic favouritism. “To feather their parochial interests, these propagandists say we favour the North. They published on social media a fare of N95,000 to Owerri and a fare of Kano showing N35,000 for the same date. “The N95,000 fare is not our Economy fare but our Business fare. It is deceptive for anyone to deliberately bring out our highest Business fare for Owerri or Enugu and juxtapose it against a Kano Economy fare selling at the time, thereby making the unsuspecting reader think that the Enugu or Asaba enger is paying N95,000 for the same class of ticket which the Kano person was paying N35,000 for. “Our fares are the cheapest in Nigeria for our type of aircraft. Even during the Christmas season, we do not increase fares. The N60,000 Economy ticket is there all year. During Christmas, you fly empty planes back to Lagos from the South East, yet we keep to our all-year-round Economy fare of N60,000,” the airline stated. The airline recalled that when it came on board, there was a paucity of flights in the South East and it provided several flights, making transportation easier for the Easterners. “These fares are loaded into the system for all Air Peace destinations- North, East, South, and West. No discrimination. If the first 10 seats of N23,000 fare finish, the system will automatically start showing the next fare which is N27,500. If the allocated seats on this are booked, it will migrate to the next until it gets to the last 14 seats pegged at N60,000,” Air Peace explained in a statement issued to the media. |

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has faulted the recent comment of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State over rotational presidency. Ohanaeze, in a statement on Monday, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, however, slammed Governor Bello, saying that he had demonstrated a remarkable obsession with ambition shortly after providence paved way for him to be sworn in as a governor in 2015 at an impressionable age of 40. The apex Igbo body pointed out that “there is no doubt that Bello has a date with destiny going by a smooth political ascendancy that life has presented to him.” that it would rotate between the South and the North in the interest of equity, unity and corporate existence of Nigeria.” It added, “the foregoing was the basis for the emergence of presidential candidates of the mainstream political parties from the South West in1999. Since then, the patriotic and peace-loving Nigerians have adhered to the rotation principle such that at the end of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo second tenure, President Musa Yar’Adua was elected; Goodluck Jonathan and then President Muhammadu Buhari.” Ohanaeze explained that it was on that basis that the Southern Governors resolved in the Lagos meeting that the South should produce the next President of Nigeria after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd). |
