The Cameroon national team has withdrawn Joel Tagueu from the AFCON competition, over a life-threatening heart defect. 

Joel Tagueu, the Cameroon national team player who was withdrawn from AFCON over the life-threatening heart defect, plays for Portuguese club Maritimo. Tagueu had an “anomaly in his coronary artery detected by team doctor, William Ngatchou, which risks his life if he were to play,” the Cameroon Football Federation said.

“On the advice of the doctor, the coach (Clarence Seedorf) has decided not to risk the player, who is leaving the tournament. The news was greeted with a lot of sadness in the camp. The staff and the players could not hold back their tears,” the statement added.

A Federal High Court which sat today in Lagos, has ordered the arrest of Innoson Motors chairman, Innocent Chukwuma and two others. The court ordered the arrest of the Innoson Motors chairman, following an application by prosecuting counsel Julius Ajakaiye who prayed the court to order Chukwuman’s arrest for failing to appear in court to take his plea in a criminal charge.

Ajakaiye who claimed that the third and fourth defendants had been coming to court following a take-over of the case by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), stated that the first, second and fifth defendants refused to show up. Justice Faji who ruled on the case, said it was clear that the first, second and fifth defendants had not appeared in the criminal charge, adding that the application had merit. Recall that the Police had charged them with an alleged N2.4billion shipping fraud. The case, numbered FHC/L/565c/16, was taken over by the AGF on March 18, 2016.

Dayo Adewole, Nigera's ex-health minister's son has regained his freedom barely 24 hours after he was kidnapped at his farm in Oyo State. 

Though it couldn't be confirmed if the ex-minister's son regained his freedom after a ransom was paid, however an aide to his father, Prof. Isaac Adewole confirmed that he was released on Wednesday evening after being kidnapped on his farm in  Iroko near Fiditi in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State on Tuesday.

The aide said “He  regained freedom just this evening and he is with his family in Ibadan. Details are still sketchy but we will issue a statement soon.”

A yet-to-be-identified Nigerian man has been apprehended, after he killed a lady with his friends and reportedly used her corpse to cook peppersoup for sale.

The man who killed the lady and used her corpse to cook peppersoup for sale is from the Northern side of Nigeria, and she committed the crime with the help of some of his friends from same region. He was paraded by residents of the community, who questioned where he kept the head of the lady who was killed. He was thereafter forced to carry the pot used in cooking the deceased, as the residents of the area in Cross River State pushed on to nab other culprits linked to the crime.

Tukur Buratai, Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff who spoke on Tuesday at the opening of a five-day leadership workshop for mid-level officers and soldiers in Abuja, stated that some soldiers' insufficient commitment is affecting the success of war against insurgency.

According to the army boss, there were proven cases of soldiers unwilling to carry out assignments given to them, adding that reluctant troops should leave the service as the army would no longer tolerate them. Buratai who stated that these soldiers’ insufficient commitment is affecting the insurgency war, added that they were all an effect of modernisation, globalisation and Information and Communications Technology in the last decades had been the “decline in nationalistic enthusiasm.”

“It is unfortunate, but the truth is that almost every setback the Nigerian Army has had in our operations in recent times can be traced to insufficient willingness to perform assigned tasks or simply insufficient commitment to a common national and military course by those at the frontlines" he said.
