It appears that Kathy Griffin has been suspended from Twitter for impersonating Elon Musk. Griffin had changed her name on the service to Elon Musk, and was tweeting as Musk imploring people to vote for Democrats in Tuesday’s midterm elections. “After much spirited discussion with the females in my life,” Griffin-as-Musk wrote in one tweet, “I’ve decided that voting blue for their choice is only right (They’re also sexy females, btw.)” Musk tweeted on November 6 that anyone impersonating a public figure would be “permanently suspended,” unless the was clearly marked as parody. Blank Check co-host Griffin Newman also had his suspended after impersonating Musk, even though he clearly marked the tweets as parody. Mr. Legalize Comedy has been having trouble with his new website purchase, making mass layoffs only to reportedly ask some employees to return. According to Bloomberg, some employees were sacked “by mistake,” while others turned out to be more necessary to daily operations than thought. Griffin, who has survived cancer and death threats after that whole Trump photo thing, surely will never recover from being suspended from Twitter.

![]() The Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 begins on Sunday, following a group stage which provided two major shocks, history on the field and several off-pitch talking points. The tournament has come to life following a slow start, which saw nine 1-0s and two goalless draws in the first round of group matches. Favourites Emerge? Two teams have stood out so far: the hosts and Nigeria. The Super Eagles are the only side with a 100% record, a statistic made all the more surprising by the fact they dismissed long-serving boss Gernot Rohr just four weeks before the tournament. Yet the side have gelled well under interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, dominating seven-time champions Egypt in their opening game and going on to beat Sudan and Guinea-Bissau comfortably. After an underwhelming World Cup qualifying campaign so far, the West Africans are a side to watch. Cameroon, meanwhile, enjoyed fine wins over Burkina Faso and Ethiopia to top Group A, with skipper Vincent Aboubakar netting five goals to equal a tournament scoring record for the Indomitable Lions. Heavyweights Have Contrasting Fortunes The biggest storyline on the pitch has been the unceremonious exit of defending champions Algeria. The North Africans drew 0-0 with Sierra Leone in their opener, then lost against Equatorial Guinea before being soundly beaten by Ivory Coast. Four-time champions Ghana were also dumped out, finishing bottom of Group B after a stunning 3-2 defeat by debutants Comoros. Senegal, among the pre-tournament favourites, finished top of Group B despite only managing to score one goal. The Teranga Lions were without goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and captain Kalidou Koulibaly for their first two games because of Covid-19, and their performances will surely improve. Another side struggling to find the back of the net have been Egypt. Mohamed Salah's Pharaohs drew a blank as they lost to Nigeria and then could only beat Guinea-Bissau and Sudan 1-0 - although they hit the woodwork three times against the Djurtus. Do Nnot Underestimate Anyone The tournament has provided two seismic shocks. ![]() Equatorial Guinea belied being 85 places below Algeria in the world rankings to end their 35-match unbeaten run which stretched back to October 2018. Then came Comoros's first Afcon goals and maiden win over 10-man Ghana, giving the side ranked 132nd in the world a famous scalp which ultimately saw them qualify for the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. The Gambia, the other first-timers in Cameroon, qualified for the last 16 after winning their opening game against Mauritania, grabbing a late draw against Mali and also beating Tunisia. Malawi also made the knockout stages with some enterprising football, being narrowly beaten by Guinea before beating Zimbabwe and securing a draw with Senegal. Some Organisational Hitches Cameroon should have held the 2019 Nations Cup, but slow preparations delayed the arrival of the continental showpiece. Despite the time and vast expense spent on hosting, the major disappointment has been the state of the pitch at Douala's Japoma Stadium. Only opened in 2020, the surface has proved virtually unplayable at times - prompting scrappy games, player errors and the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to consider moving matches away from the 50,000-seater stadium. Another moment of controversy came when Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe blew for full-time 13 seconds early in the Mali-Tunisia game - but Caf rejected Tunisian protests. A more positive officiating story came when when Rwanda's Salima Mukansanga became the first woman to take charge of a men's Nations Cup game, refereeing Zimbabwe's win over Guinea. Attendances Building Despite Restrictions Nations Cup matches which do not involve the host team are often poorly attended, but crowds in Cameroon have been better than in previous tournaments, where "neutral" ties have historically struggled to attract interest. Because of the coronavirus pandemic crowds have been capped at 80% of capacity for Cameroon games and 60% for all others. But after low attendances for early games in Bafoussam, Douala and Limbe, Cameroon's prime minister ordered schools and civil servants to finish early so that they could attend games. Local people have complained about the cost of tickets, and the long queues for the compulsory Covid tests - although the stipulation regarding proof of negative tests is not always enforced. Yet fan parks, which do not require the rigmarole of lateral flow tests, have been well attended. For the delegations themselves, it has been nigh-on impossible to avoid Covid cases. Cape Verde, Malawi and Tunisia have been among the hardest hit - but all three managed to reach the last 16, and all games have gone ahead as scheduled. Security Concerns Remain ![]() Security was a major concern on the eve of the tournament because of the separatist demands of the south-west region of Cameroon, where the city of Limbe is hosting eight matches, but the tournament has been largely unaffected so far. A small improvised explosive device went off before the tournament, while on the first day of games in Limbe two individuals were shot dead in nearby Beau in incidents believed to be unrelated to the Nations Cup. At the same time, the leader of local militants who have clashed with the Cameroonian army since 2017 issued another warning, declaring: "You people think that you have taken all the security measures but wait and see what will happen." Armed groups - who argue that the Anglophone regions of Cameroon have been marginalised by the primarily French-speaking government - hope to form a breakaway state called Ambazonia. Two Algerian journalists were subject to a knife attack in a mugging outside their hotel in Douala in the opening week, while teams have been more affected by breaches of security within their own camps. Meanwhile, Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - who has not played in Cameroon after testing positive for coronavirus - took to social media to deny widespread reports he had returned late to camp after a night out drinking. The Arsenal striker returned to his club for further tests on what the Gabon FA described as "heart lesions" but he declared he was "completely healthy" on Thursday. |

How are people primed to want things they don't deserve? As I prepared to write this article, I decided to surf through my Twitter feed, and a particular tweet caught my attention. "I want to be a billionaire before 30". This tweet had thousands of retweets and likes. Here we had thousands of youngsters who had the singular goal of becoming billionaires. Ordinarily, you may assume that this goal is lofty or maybe even inspiring. However, it seemed to me like a desire that was born out of influence. I clicked on the person's profile and found that the person had just retweeted a tweet about Jeff Bezos entering $200 billion. This is how the society around us conditions us to wish for things that we often do not deserve. Worse still, we often feel downtrodden when we cannot reach these lofty heights. Many people around me want to be stinkingly rich simply because of the "love" and "respect" that wealthy people amass. While a few others want to be rich to buy material things and enjoy experiences that make them feel alive. In all honesty, certain things help us come alive, and it is normal. However, it is essential to understand your desires and control them before they control you. In this article, we will go through a broad perspective on how desires are formed. Then we will try to understand why humans often want those things that we do not deserve. To gain a proper understanding of this topic, we will go through specific questions. If you are as eager as I am, then let's get right into it; WHAT IS DESIRE? Many scholarly definitions help us understand the meaning of desire. However, I wouldn't want to bore you with technical and jargon. In simple , Desire refers to a feeling or motivation towards a particular activity, object, or person. Desires cause us to behave in a certain way with the hope of attaining a feeling/ reward that we aspire. Our desires can be hierarchically divided into four categories; Physical desires: This refers to all forms of sense gratification, i.e., those bodily desires such as food, clothing, comfort, etc. Emotional desires: This category refers to desires relating to the need for love, recognition, companionship, and anything that causes you to look outward for fulfillment. Intellectual desires: These kinds of desires last longer than those mentioned above two. They are often borne out of a need to create something bigger than oneself. Unlike physical and emotional desires, intellectual desires help you to look inwards for fulfillment. Transcendental desires: This is the greatest of all kinds of desire. It refers to the burning need to find your true nature beyond your ego's needs. Those that get to this level often recognize the futility of trying to gratify our insatiable desires. WHY DO WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND DESIRE? Certain features are part of the universal human experience. Desires are a great example of an inseparable part of human existence as they drive our lives. It is safe to say that we are who we are because of an aggregation of our responses to our desires since childhood. Desires in themselves are neither right nor wrong; our conditioning often determines these tags. For instance, the Christian religion has some basic tenets that influence the desires of practicing Christians. Similarly, several other customs or beliefs condition us to see desires in a particular way. Desires (when carried out) can have either positive or negative effects on our lives. Our desires motivate us to act in different ways- and as a matter of fact, they influence our worldview. Since our desires have so much impact on our existence, it makes sense for us to understand how they are formed. HOW DO DESIRES EMERGE? Although the definition of desire is relatively straightforward, we often don't understand how our desires emerge. Generally, urges emerge when our brain recognizes and analyzes external incentives in contrast to our learned values. Every desire occurs due to a conflict in the human brain- between our immediate wants and our long-term values. Since childhood, events and their perceived outcomes have helped us become more conscious about desires. These events have shaped our conscious perception of rewards and, thus, influenced our desires. HOW HAS MARKETING INFLUENCED OUR DESIRES OVERTIME? While many people talk about marketing's effects on our desires, only a few know how far this influence reaches. To better understand the relationship between marketing and human desires, we need to understand social psychology. This aspect of psychology can help us to know why we want the things that we want. According to a renowned psychologist, Gordon Allport, social psychology "uses scientific methods to understand and explain how the thoughts, feelings, and behavior of individuals are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of other human beings." Since time immemorial, various forms of marketing have shaped our desires (both directly and indirectly). To understand the effect of marketing on our desires, let us take the example of cigarettes. Have you ever wondered how cigarette makers continue to improve sales despite the ban on advertising? Also, ever wondered how the cigarettes became "cool" even with its apparent implications to human health? The answer to these questions is simple and complicated simultaneously; it is what I call "strategic marketing." With strategic marketing, influential figures (whether real or fictional) are used to arouse certain things. In this case, the is made to feel the desire for some experiences due to an expected (portrayed) outcome. I the first time I tried smoking a cigarette; I had just binged a full season of my favorite movie series at that time- house of cards. I was struck by how the cigarette was made to appeal to me as something cool. My expectation for what a stick of cigarette would do for me was based on what I perceived from the main character. I expected it to help me "cool off," just as it allowed the movie's main character. Similarly, several large brands have found ways to influence our desires through the media and those we look up to for influence. Today, the internet and smart devices have brought us ever-closer to different people's experiences worldwide. Our unfettered access to the information has caused us to be influenced by the actions of others. Every time a desire is fulfilled, we get a temporary feeling of joy and pleasure. This feeling is short-lived because humans always aspire to new things; it is an innate feature. We live for the thrill of new experiences that cause us to come alive. WHY DO WE WANT THE THINGS WE DON'T DESERVE? While the human brain is familiar with some of our desires' expected results, we can only hope for others. This is why we often look to others to understand the expected feelings that we hope to get. For example, anyone that wishes to become a billionaire may look up to Jeff Bezos to understand what it feels like to become a billionaire. The outcome of this exercise may fuel your desire to become one. Our desires often come from a feeling that we lack something. Subsequently, it acts as a driving force that propels us to attain what we seem to lack. Like the cigarette example, many of us are influenced by movies, ads, and (in some cases) real-life scenarios. We see people who project feelings of satisfaction from certain things, and we subconsciously desire these things. As humans, we are conditioned to depend on the output of the collective to determine our desires. Every individual often feels the need to belong to a group and subscribe to their method of thinking. This happens because such groups provide survival, a sense of belonging, control, security, and other basic human instincts. ROUNDING UP… Our desires are insatiable, and this is why you need to ensure that your desires are transcendental. This is the only way that you will focus on those things that you truly deserve. The other levels of desires will only cause you to focus on an endless maze and keep you coming back for more. We can only experience true freedom when we understand the insatiable nature of our desires and act accordingly. What does this mean? This means that you need to break free from those desires that come as a result of conforming to people's opinions of what is "ideal." You need to critically access your desires and break free from external influences. According to Kabir, a fifteenth-century Indian philosopher and poet, our desires constitute humanity's real wealth. He stated that people are born with countless desires, too many to pursue all of them. Instead of focusing on the aggregate sense of beauty, happiness, a good life, success, and so on, you can find true meaning. There is a need to understand desires because they affect the outcomes of our lives. Our desires influence both our long term and short term decisions and goals in life. Unfortunately, some people will go through life's journey feeling sad because they cannot get certain things. These things are often sold to us as the "ideal" or the "standard." Without proper regulation, our desires may spell doom; therefore, you need to figure out what works for your life. Live free! Thank you for reading this article. 2 Likes |

Good evening, everyone. I invested some money in treasury bills last year and it will mature in few days. So I went to bank today to tell them that I'll be renewing it. Unfortunately, I was told that it's been suspended by FG. I wasn't aware because I haven't been following the stuff. I am a student but I do freelancing during break. The money I invested the last time was what I made during a long break. I have started working again since they sent us home due to the covid-19 pandemic and I have been able to make some money I wish to add to the one that will mature in few days and reinvest everything. I want to ask if there's anyone that can suggest a legit and very safe way I can invest the money. I don't want to do fixed deposit because the rate is too low. I can't read all the previous messages because they are just too much. I can't go into any business because I won't be able to monitor it when school resumes. I'm a medical student. 1 Like |

Siblings It was dark. It was always dark when he went to work. He waited for the nights when clouds covered the moon and the world plunged into darkness. He needed all the cover he could get as he climbed the walls of the rich and privileged and broke into their homes. The man didn’t want to do what he did, but he didn’t have a choice. So, he climbed the wall diligently. He had his eye focused on a window on the top floor. The window was never locked and it would make an easy point of entry. Slowly, he climbed the wall, hoping that the moon would stay covered by the clouds and that he would stay cloaked by the shadows. Finally, his calloused fingers gripped onto the ledge of the window as he hoisted himself up. He balanced himself on the ledge as he opened up the window slowly. Luckily, the window opened noiselessly and he slipped inside. The duke’s home was lavish. Even in this forgotten attic, covered with dust and debris, there were valuables piled high that could feed a poor man for a year. But this man never stole goods. He only stole cash. A stolen good could be traced back to its owner and seller. Cash could not. No one looked twice if he paid in gold coins just as long as he had a nice shirt on. Moving quickly and silently he kept to the shadows as he moved throughout the house. Soon, after checking behind the duke’s self-portrait the man found the building’s safe. It was so typical for the rich man to hide his money behind his own portrait. Would they never learn? The man, taking a moment to check his surroundings decided that he was alone and that it was safe to proceed. He pressed his ear against the cold metal and listened to the heartbeat-like sounds emanating from behind the safe’s dial. Soon enough he heard the distinct click of the safe opening and he smiled in success. There was never a safe he couldn’t crack. Grinning, he looked inside to find a burlap sack. He grabbed it quickly and opened it to find gold coins. He grinned again before reaching inside the sack and grabbing about half of the coins. He quickly shoved them into his pockets. Moving quickly, he shoved the sack back into the safe and closed it. He retraced his steps, his pockets now chiming with the sound of fresh money. He climbed out the window, thinking about his actions. Did stealing make him a bad person? He wondered how much longer he could fool himself into thinking he was good. But, the man didn’t dwell on the dark topic for long, instead he closed the window behind him. He grinned, knowing that no one would find a trace of his break-in. He always made sure to cover his tracks whenever he committed any crime. This was how he had managed to evade the police for so long. They could find nothing: no clues, no witnesses, nothing. He was like a shadow in the night that came and left without a trace. For this reason, he was able to leave the duke’s home with his pockets full of gold coins. He could have stolen everything within the safe, but he only ever took what he needed, never anything more. He didn’t steal because of an innate evil lurking inside of his heart, but instead he did it for her. 1 Like |

The Shadow moved quickly through the castle. She seemed to flow through the dimly lit corridors as if she were actually one of the shadows decorating the walls. If the servants happened to stumble upon her they would quickly hide away in fear, some of them even uttered soft-spoken prayers. No one dared to approach the Shadow. And who would? Dressed in all black, a hood obscuring her face, a massive bow slung onto her back, deadly arrows filling her quiver, and an excess of throwing knives decorating her body: she was straight out of a nightmare. It was a solitary existence being the Shadow, but no one asked her whether it bothered her or not. Everyone stayed away from the menacing force that was the Shadow. She now stood before the large oak doors that guarded the king’s throne room. As she stood there it seemed as if she were hesitating. Could it be that the ruthless Shadow didn’t want to enter the room? This woman could kill a man without hesitation and yet, why did she waiver before entering the king’s throne room? Eventually, however, she knocked on the door and waited while the dark-skinned individual from the meeting answered the door. He looked at her and shuddered a bit, praying to his pagan Gods as he stared at the she-devil. The Shadow paid the man no mind as she entered the throne room. Any hesitation that she might have had while standing outside the door was now gone. The king had his back to the Shadow as he looked out his window. His kingdom seemed calm, but there was a thief on the loose that needed to be stopped. He was breaking into the homes of the wealthy and even though he never stole much, he still needed to be stopped. The Kingdom of Vaisal couldn’t afford to have someone running around and angering the king’s most valuable allies. If he was left unattended he would bleed the kingdom dry. The thief had to be stopped. And with the help of the Shadow he was already dead. The king continued to look out the window. He seemed to have the audacity to keep the Shadow waiting even though other men would never think of doing such a thing. Most other men would be on their knees begging for their lives if they were to find themselves face to face with the she-devil. Eventually, when it so pleased him, the king turned around and faced the woman clad in black. The Shadow had yet to speak a word. She looked in his general direction, but the hood that covered her face obscured whether she was actually looking at the monarch or not. It had been a long time since anyone had gazed upon her face. “I have a new bounty for you.” The king said as he walked toward the bounty hunter. It seemed like he had no fear of this deadly killer and was now face to face with her. The woman was small compared to the well-built king, but there was no denying that the woman could have an arrow piercing through his chest in a moment’s notice. The king, seeing that she would not respond, continued. He pulled out a piece of paper with a rough sketch on it. “A criminal has been terrorizing the kingdom and I want you to get rid of him. He has already terrorized our neighboring kingdoms and it is only a matter of time before he bleeds our vaults dry as well. The police have been on his case for months with no leads. He has a way of blending into the night. Makes me wonder if he’s not one of your kind… Anyway… I want you to catch this man. I want his head.” The Shadow grabbed the piece of paper. The police had done a very poor job of depicting the man as she looked at the sketch. “Can you do that for me?” There was no response from the woman but as the king looked up he saw her leaving the throne room with the criminal’s sketch in her hand. The king grinned, knowing that the criminal was as good as dead. And a dead man couldn’t steal. 1 Like |

The Shadow “This cannot go on.” A man in a sharp looking suit stood up from his seat in excitement. “This is unacceptable!” “He will drive us to ruin!” “You have to do something about this.” A tyranny of voices sounded throughout the council room as wealthy men started to argue amongst themselves. One man adorned with a crown on his head and who wore a fur-lined cloak watched the council. He seemed calm. They were all angry with him, but he knew |
