Hello Guys,

Decided to share this so as to encourage others.

Had my Visa interview on December 17th, 2018. Questions asked were the same as posted earlier by others.

5 weeks later, I received the mail requesting that I provide insurance details and confirmed travel date.
My employer had already informed me in week 3 that approval had been granted by the foreign office .

Visa was delivered earlier this week, week 7.

Special thanks to Sam, who took time to help out in the early days. I went with so many copies that Mr. Paulinus was confused, I was confused too at some point

My profile, I am currently an SAP ABAP developer with over 5 years experience. Preceding that, i have 5 years experience in other fields like Java and Oracle ERP.

Dear Building Professionals and enthusiasts, kindly assist a lay man with your candid advice on roofing materials.

I wanted a good quality and affordable roofing material for my building, so I approached the major stone coated roofing companies, the prices they quoted made me run away with my tails in between my legs.

So I decided to find out about aluminum step tiles. From the information I gathered, the 0.55mm gauge is the best and First Aluminum is a reputable company. I was surprised that their step tiles go for around N3,450 per sqm now.

A carpenter then told me that I can get good quality stone coated roofing materials. Upon visiting the recommended party, I was told that Korean/New Zealand sheets go for N3,000-N3,100 per sqm. I started wondering how stone quoted could end up being cheaper than Aluminum step tiles? I am afraid that I might have a washed out roof within a few years if I use this option.

As I was driving along one day, I saw Nigerite office and branched in, I actually believed that their products are for high end customers but was surprised when I was told that they have ceramic roofing materials (crete tiles) going for N2900 per sqm.

After considering other factors in my total cost estimation i.e. woodwork, labour, etc. The Nigerite crete tiles still turned out the most expensive but only slightly above the aluminum step tiles, the stone coated sheets being the cheapest. I feel I should eliminate the aluminum step tiles since it can’t give me the cost benefit I want, so I am left with choosing between the stone coated roof and the crete tiles.

I want the house to please advise me on the choice to make, are those Crete tiles really of good quality, will they last, do they leak? Can I trust the quality of these cheap stone coated materials? Please help!!!

Eventually did as advised. Two coaches/courses outside walls and three interior walls.

Next stage concrete fascia and roofing but make I drink small water first....

As per cost incurred.

Foundation approx 980k, would have cost less if not for corrections made, raising the building up to this point cost approx 1.120m...all in.

So, completed the lintel stage.

@EgunMogaji The plan is not to install ceiling fans but to rather use that as a basis to get the appropriate height

I would appreciate some professional guidance from the house please.

How many coaches should be laid after lintel. My engineer said three coaches inside and two on the outside walls.

I am worried cos I don't want the ceiling to become too low after POP might have been done. If a ceiling fan is installed, an adult rai his/her hand should not be hit by the rotating blades.

Experienced builders, Kindly help. How many coaches should be laid to provide sufficient clearance?

Got somebody else to handle the construction

Also made a slight change...moved the childrens sitting room to the kitchen and moved the dining forward...so we now have a fourth room that can be made either a bedroom or play room for the children

We were almost through when rain started falling heavily. But we were still able to continue after it stopped. We also ran out of sharp sand (20 tonne load o) we were able to buy a few wheel barrows from a kind neighbour..though it wasn't enough we were had to use more of plaster sand in the mix...at the end of the day, job was successfully completed!

@joyli, I might not be able to give that at this instant as it would require that I get out my working papers and do some calculations. But I will let you know later a rough estimate of what it cost me to complete the foundation.

A question, please advise the house why you used pillars on a bungalow. The reason I asked is that there are certain sectors who thinks that it is a waste on a bungalow to have pillars. I of course disagree and have pillars on both of my bungalows.

As for the pillars, I am not a building professional so it wasn't my idea, but was advised to include pillars cos of the weight of the roof. Also, you will notice that the house is narrow and long. So that also contributed to pillars being included.

Filling with laterite

We went on to blinding and block work for the foundation. After laying like three coaches for the foundation. I came one afternoon to check on progress. As I walked around looking at the job, I noticed that there was a problem...the back of the house was distended and was wider than the front part.

The guy supervising and Mason said that was not the case and insisted that it was cause I was trying the gauge the size by eyesight and cause the land itself wasn't of equal length on all sides. I insisted and requested that they bring their tapes...when I measured the sides my fears were confirmed....I immediately lost it....

I started screaming at the guys...I had never built a house, yet I am able to identify an error as serious as this. Then the blame game started..Mason said it was the guy supervising who caused it, the supervisor said the Mason didn't take to his instructions...

It took the help of my neighbour who is experienced in building to correct the mistakes, we had to break down the blocks that had been laid for the back, and front. It cost me more of course and pushed my expenses higher but it had to be done and done correctly.

I was infuriated during that period and totally forgot to document the whole episode in pictures...but I learnt a lesson. Even if you have people supervising your job for you, ensure you cross check to ensure they are doing the right thing.

I wanted to fire them instantly but my neighbour told me to keep them so as not to lose more money and rather keep on closer eye on the job they are doing.

March 2016, decided to go ahead with the foundation
