Nobel Laurent, Professor Wole Soyinka, has affirmed that June 12 and not May 29 should be marked as Nigeria’s democracy day.

Speaking at a forum in Lagos over the weekend, Prof Soyinka described the May 29 celebration by federal government as ‘fake’, saying that “June 12 is the real democracy day.”

He also made jest of his ‘grounded plane and helicopter’ ahead of a planned flight to celebrate June 12 abroad.

Nigeria has celebrated the return of civil rule on 29th of May, since 1999 when the newly elected President Olusegun Obasanjo, was sworn in after over 30 years of military rule. The day was tagged, Democracy Day.

June 12 is the date renowned for Nigeria’s most credible, free and fair election in 1993 when late MKO Abiola was elected President.

Keturah Hamilton – “I Wasted Six Years Of My Life With Jim Iyke”
Posted by: Haliwud on June 10, 2013
Nollywood actor Jim Iyke’s sad and heartbroken Jamaican ex-fiancee Keturah Hamilton tells Diasporan Star:
“These days, I ask God: Why has thou forsaken me? How can a man with whom we had gone through the highs and the lows – a man who had professed so much undying love for me over the past six years just walk away like that? I don’t know what happened and I wish I could put a finger on it. He took away six years of memories, of of love and all that I did for him – just like that. How mean and callous can one get?
Jim was supposed to come to New York and stay for six months, during which time, he would go to an acting school here in New York and then we would move to Los Angeles and get married and pursue our acting dreams. I was looking forward to that with eagerness and then he just walked away” she began to sob and Diasporan Star asked what could have been the reason for such a change of heart, Keturah said “we had problems like normal lovers do, but we always resolved them amicably. I know there was something Jim asked me to do, which I didn’t want to do right away, but that should not have made him to do what he did.” Pressed to reveal what it was that Jim wanted him to do, she said it was personal.
Keturah said she feels used and dumped “I played along in the reality show as if I truly was a jealous and crazy lover. It was an act, but now I feel as if Jim set me up. He is a wicked man. I stood by him through all his troubles and tribulations. I helped bring him to the limelight when the light of his career was dimming. He is an ingrate and I leave him to God.”
One area that seems to have pained Keturah more appears to be the rumor making the rounds that Jim left her for the Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari. “That is the rumor I have heard and I know it is not just a rumor.  They have been hooking up in Ghana. They were together at Tuface’s wedding and appear to be everywhere together. I just can’t believe Jim would be this ungrateful – after all I have done for him. I have not been able to accept this and I am truly in a state of shock. If Jim could treat me the way he did, after six years of being there for him, ing him, encouraging him in all that he did, then I wish Nadia the best of luck.”

Jim according to sources is living in Nadia’s house in Ghana and is constantly seen driving her car on the streets of Accra the Ghanaian capital. He is said to have told friends he and Nadia are mere friends, but most people find that difficult to believe.
Meanwhile, Keturah appears to have moved on with her life. “I am a strong woman and I am moving ahead with my life. God cannot give you that which He will not provide you the platform to stand and deal with. I wish the best in his life.”

Boko Haram: CAN want Buhari arrested over provocative statements

By Ameh Comrade Godwin on June 5, 2013
Tweet Pin It

The Nigerian Christian community under the auspices of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Tuesday, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the former Head of State and national leader of Congress for Progressive Change, C, General Muhammadu Buhari ((rtd), over alleged provocative statements.
CAN, under the leadership of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Kenny Ashaka said that the former warlord, having in various occasions justified the action of the sect, remains a big security threat to the country’s corporate existence.
He insisted that it was unfortunate that when every Nigerian was praying for successful military onslaught on the insurgence, Buhari, rather than sharing the same feeling with well-meaning Nigerians, was busy indulging in careless statements, without regards for the victims of the attacKs whom he said were mostly Christians.
The statement reads in part, “The retired General was widely reported by several national newspaper Correspondents, who monitored the Liberty Radio programme “Guest of the week”, to have questioned the “special treatment” given to the Niger-Delta militants by the Federal Government while the Boko Haram were being killed and their houses destroyed by government.
“They (the Niger-Delta militants) were trained in some skills and were given employment, but the ones in the north were being killed and their houses were being demolished. They are different issues. What brought this? It is injustice”, the former Head of State was quoted to have said.
“I cannot wish away the outburst of harshly critical statements, especially as some of them are directly related to the defense of the Boko Haram sect whose have continued to kill, maim Christians and burn Churches. I feel the pain inflicted on Christians living in the north is too deep for us in CAN to ignore any unsavoury statement that tend to portray innocent Christians who have been killed by the sect as the aggressors.
“It is shocking that at a time well-meaning Nigerians are praying for the success of our soldiers, Buhari, rather than reflect the mood of the nation in his statements and conducts is indulging in careless statements without regards for victims of the sect’s violence who are mostly Christians.
“I have, several times been vindicated that Boko Haram is not inspired by pecuniary motives, the latest of which is the statement by Robert Fowler, the released former United Nation’s envoy to Niger Republic who said in a BBC programme, “Hard Talk”, aired on Tuesday, 4th of June, 2013, that his captors never talked of poverty, but islamisation of Africa.
“Spent and defeated politicians with outburst of temper and elders like Buhari who take delight in inflaming religious and ethnic ions should, therefore, be arrested and made to explain some of the issues raised by them. This is why I call for the arrest of Buhari now. Buhari is a big security risk to Nigeria’s cooperate existence.
“It is laughable that Buhari, an ex-Head of State, a General in the Nigerian Army who has served this country in different capacities would Islamists who are confronting those in his constituency who are fighting to keep the nation from dismemberment. For Buhari who has led a Brigade of troops in 1982 to repel invading Chadian troops from the same north-eastern borders of Nigeria, the first major foreign invasion, to oppose a state of emergency when some parts of Borno and Yobe States had been occupied and the Nigerian flag replaced with theirs, burnt Churches, schools, government institutions, killed innocent Christians, attacked traditional rulers and others not sympathetic to their cause, speaks volume.
“The retired General’s sad commentary has not portrayed him as a national leader. As a retired General, he should have known that fights against terrorists are not mere child’s play. They are much more difficult than conventional war which he fought in 1982. If Buhari is a national leader, he should have been more concerned about the killings of innocent ones by the sect and the success of the troops and not that of terrorists as he has been doing,” it added.

US Places N1.1bn Bounty On B’Haram Leader, Shekau
Posted by: daniel on June 4, 2013
The United States took a bold step yesterday when it placed a bounty of $23million, an equivalent of N3.3 billion on the head of top Al- Qaeda-linked terrorists in Nigeria and West Africa.
Nigeria’s Boko Haram leader, Sheik Abubakar Shekau, leads the pack with a reward of $7 million (N1.1 billion) for anybody that can provide information that can lead to his capture.
The $23 million reward money announced by the US include the sum of $5 million placed on Mokhtar Belmokhtar, the Algerian-based Al-Qaeda leader who led the hostages attack in Southern Algerian town of Menas in February 2013. He was later reported to have been killed by Chadian troops in Mali.
Another sum of $5 million was placed on the head of Yahya Abou Al-Hammam, a top leader of Ansar Dine in Mali, while the names of two others were not available at press time.
The US which refused to bow under pressure into declaring Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organisation, (FTO), has with this move, set in motion a massive manhunt for the terrorist leaders who have been responsible for spreading insecurity and terror across Nigeria and West Africa.

Amaechi should go and "test his popularity" on the platform of another party. Inordinately aspiring to scheme his way to the PDP presidential ticket, in spite of the existence of an incumbent, is an act of insolence that deserves the harshest response from the incumbent. Democracy involves options, and thankfully, options (alternative political parties) are too numerous to mention. Let him take his ambition to another party. Why is this so hard?
I don't know y Masses are being deluded by the North,So they covertly forced GEJ to sign One term Pact & who knows whether its under duress cos this is purely undemocratic but now they come overtly telling us this. Please they should go secretly & sort it out again cos the last time i checked GEJ has constitutional right to contest 2015.
One thing is for sure GEJ has deepened Democracy in Nigeria and will lead us to the Promise Land. Despite the conspiracy of those who had made the Country Ungovernable he has arguably done well in all Spheres of the Economy.
GEJ should not allow North who has held Power for more than 38yrs without nothing to show for it to take it back.
Only time will tell, GEJ till 2019 !

Boko Haram: Dialogue must come first before amnesty
on MAY 31, 2013 · in SPECIAL REPORT
By BOLA AJIBOLA

THERE seems to be a muddle about the way we are handling this issue of Boko Haram. It is my view that we are already jumping the gun and pushing the cart before the horse.
While on one hand we have embarked on the issue of state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, on the other hand the Federal Government had already set up a committee on Amnesty.
It is difficult to be friends of those one is facing on the battle field, involving death and destruction of lives and properties. In view of the current situation, there is urgent need for Nigeria to take a positive line of action. This positive line of action must be by way of dialogue. Some years back when the League of Nations had its convention, they established this idea which used to be called “fact finding”.
Prince Bola-Ajibola
Whenever there is dispute between two entities, in order to find a lasting solution by way of peaceful settlement there is absolutely the need for dialogue. Such dialogue must involve the two parties to the dispute stating their causes of grievance.
Thereafter, there should be move by both parties to present their of settlement upon which both parties could come to by reconciliation and by way of give and take. It is after this that amnesty could come in. Talking about amnesty before dialogue is like jumping the gun which is not advisable in this regard.
It is like telling an accused person that he is found guilty even before he is asked to state his case. There is no doubt that the government must find out the immediate and remote causes of the grievance being nursed by the Boko Haram.
The idea of stating that Western education is wrong is a misnomer and cannot be part of the serious issue in this matter. In the first case, it is unislamic since the Sunnah and Hadith of Islam says, “Knowledge is a sine qua non”.
The Holy Qur’an is full of this issue of knowledge in its content. Secondly, it is unconstitutional to attempt such an idea. There is need for both sides to thoroughly address the issue of religion, ethnicity and politics.
In addition to all these, there is need for the government to address the issue of insecurity and corruption. The nation is disintegrating because of the social menace that at the moment plaguing our nation to the extent that we have now become a pariah among the comity of nations.
Talking about corruption, someone like me will find it difficult to understand that this is the same nation that I served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice for six years in the 1980s and I took no money home.
President Goodluck Jonathan and the ‘ghosts’
Then I directed that 35 percent of the money should be paid back to the government for good governance, 25 percent to Nigeria Bar Association as the root where I developed from and 40 percent to the needy and disable people of Nigeria (to about eight organisations including Red Cross and Red Crescent).
Now in retrospect, it is difficult for me to imagine that I was the one paying the salaries of the two staff that I personally engaged to work for the government in the Ministry of Justice throughout that period.

With insecurity, corruption and all other vices facing us in Nigeria at the moment, development will continue to be mere illusion.

Rubbish . GEJ all the way . GEJ is most marketable candidate now . He is capbale of wining SS , SE, NC some votes from SW and North . No other presidential candidiate is capable of this . No northern candidate will get vote from Ss and SE - this is the reality . Even if Amaechi or Rochas Okorocha contest as VP - no vote from SE and SS because those are regarded as saboteurs and are unpopular in both regions.
Definitely GEJ must clinch PDP ticket for Presidential Election or the Party will be destroyed. So when u compare GEJ and other Parties Candidate coming out for 2015 Presidential Election then u announce result yourself.

LEGISREPORTS NG – There are indications that the Anti Amaechi lawmakers has risen from 5 to 13 thereby heightening the alleged plot to impeach Governor Amaechi.

Although the names of the Lawmakers who defected to the PDP camp led by the Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike has not been made public.  The camp of Governor Amaechi has confirmed the deflection of its loyalists from the Assembly.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly who confirmed the defection of some Lawmakers to the Abuja camp put the figure at 8.

The Speaker who spoke through his Press Secretary Jim Opiki said the figure is insignificant to contemplate on the impeachment of Governor Amaechi who still boost of 19 loyalists.

deenee: Good for him but this is misplaced priority. The BOI is like our own local world bank or even IFC. Now let me ask this, will the world bank call somebody like "Lil Wayne", "Kanye West" or even 50 cent to be a brand ambassador? The answer is in the obvious. A typical BOI brand ambassador should be a successful entrepreneur who has benefited from any of their intervention loans and can be sold as a success to the public.

Quite frankly, I don't think Dbanj can even stand and speak about real sector development in front of an international audience (a sector that BOI was set up to develop) so I think the whole charade is like adding "salt to pap" as one poster put it.

The money that they have wasted on this whole exercise can be repackaged as SME loans for small business owners with very low interest rates. We will all be amazed at how many businesses close shop every day in Nigeria because they can't afford the high interest rates loans that banks throw at them and yet this.

Well this is my beloved country Nigeria where a satellite the size of three ships can just disappear in space and a gas turbine the size of two big warehouses can also get missing at the Port, so this is not news for me.

God bless Nigeria!

he youths of Ahiara community in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State yesterday locked the Catholic Cathedral to protest the ordination of Monsignor Peter Okpalaeke as the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese.

Okpalaeke, who is from Anambra State, was appointed bishop-elect of the diocese by former Pope Benedict XVI last December after the death of the pioneer bishop of the diocese, Victor Chikwe.

But while ordination was going on, the priests and Catholic faithful including the youths from the diocese, who preferred an indigene of Mbaise as bishop of the diocese, said the bishop-elect would not be allowed in the diocese.

The youths, who took over the church, locked up the entrance gate to the cathedral where the newly ordained bishop was to begin his 10- year tenure as the bishop of Ahiara Diocese.

The protesters, who disrupted vehicular and human movement in the area, vowed not to allow the bishop access into the cathedral, insisting that the diocese would remain without a bishop for the next 10 years. Some of protesters told journalists that “we will not allow this injustice. We don’t want the bishop who is not from our community.

That is all we are saying and we are ready to fight to finish”. Despite the protesters’ threat, Pope Francis directed Catholic authorities yesterday to ordain the bishopelect.

The ordination, which was carried out amid tight security at the Seat of Wisdom Seminary in Ulakwo in Owerri North Local Government Area, was held several miles away from the Ahiara Diocese.

This, according to a source, was to prevent the breakdown of law and order. However, many Catholic faithful and other dignitaries within and outside the country, including John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the archbishop of Abuja, attended the ordination. In his sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Archdiocese, Lucius Ugorji, said: “Only the Pope has the final say in the appointment of bishops.

There is no provision for quota system in the appointment of bishops.” According to him, the acceptance of the appointment is a respect for the Pope, while rejection, inflammatory statements and protests are spiteful and disrespectful to the Papal authority. Ugorji urged the people to work with the new bishop for the progress of the diocese.
Unbelievable ! It can only be Mbaise People.
