The journey to a fully recovered Naira was not expected to be smooth. There are bound to be swings in market sentiment which will be reflected the exchange rate. A sustained Dollar injection will eventually sway market sentiment towards a more favourable rate for the Naira.

The CBN is doing a very delicate job to get the economy out of the doldrums. It has to maintain the balance between stimulating economic growth and fending off inflation by applying policies that will keep the Dollar rise in check and encourage local production simultaneously.

There are no hard and fast rules to get out of the current situation. The earlier we it this simple fact, the better. When oil prices plunged, the economy contracted as expected. The CBN's response has stopped things from getting worse. Blaming the Bank for the recession and ignoring the clear evidence of recovery is similar to engers in an aircraft whose pilot successfully landed the plane with no serious harm blaming the pilot for the turbulence and accusing him of not landing the plane more gently.

With all the negative comments on this thread against the CBN, one can conclude that many Nigerians do not grasp the reality that things could have been worse without the CBN's intervention.

It has become the norm for these APC governors to owe salaries even after President Buhari gave them a bail out.
The same story in Osun, IMO and now Nassarawa. its evil for a governor not to pay his workers salaries no matter the circumstances.
NASS should criminalize non payment of salaries. It's the best way to handle this menace.

Louis88:

In that same vein i have decided to also beam the search light on the intervention of the SURE-P in the area of Maternal and Child Healthcare(MCH).

Now what has been done here by SURE-P includes the employment of midwives to set up mobile centers in rural areas to check on pregnant women, provision of medical advice and counseling on all they need to know to ensure a safe pregnancy and delivery,so as to reduce on the mother/infant mortality rate.

Then also is the introduction of what is called Conditional Cash Transfers(CCT) which was done in collaboration with UBA Bank to ensure transparency in the exercise with its main purpose being to provide funds for indigent patients to be able to access treatments and drugs in SURE-P/CCT designated health centers.

Also the organization of sensitization tours with medical personnel,in order to enlighten those living in the rural areas especially those whom ordinarily would not have access to such information on expected medical issues that arise in infancy stage and the processes to follow to seek medical assistance in such cases.

As a woman, I'm deeply concerned about issues that bother on Maternal and child health care. Every serious government must evolve practical steps to curb infant mortality and ensure that poor people have quality access to pre natal and post natal health care.
I must commend this initiative by SURE P to look in this direction. Most govt interventionist agencies ignore this area thereby leaving it solely in the hands of Ministry of Health and related agencies.
This approach by SURE P will increase funding and help ameliorate the hardships that poor women experience in Nigeria. I hope SURE P will be able sustain the programme.

first all the road i know in that list are bad.....east west road.....enugu port Harcourt roads
..
..

Many of the sections of east west roads have been completed. I ed through the PH end last 2 weeks and it was in good shape.
Let us not be serial critics. If we see a good achievement by govt, we acknowledge it.

It is never in doubt that SURE P is doing a good job on our major highways.
Unlike Buhari's PTF which concentrated only on Northern roads, SURE P is working across the entire length and breadth of Nigeria.
They did a wonderful job on the Abuja-Lokoja road. Anybody who plies that road recently will attest the sufficient progess so far.
I'm impressed.

If I were a federal lawmaker, I will concern myself about ing all the essential bills that have been pending in that NASS. It's unfortunate that executive bills like National Health Bill, Petrouem Industry bill forwarded by the executive is yet to receive serious attention by the National Assembly. They are the ones who deserve to be recalled for abdicating he age of PIB and exploiting the nations coffers through jumbo allowances
Bukkyade: 7:01pm On Dec 16, 2013
You can't help but agree with the op. I have always maintained that GEJ has performed more than so many of his predecessors. It is not in doubt.
Aviation- despite the allegations against that woman. She has done tremendous work in the Aviation industry more than any other Minister before her. It's just unfortunate that she allowed her greed to eclipse the remodelling work she has done in all the major airports.
Agricuture- Adeshina is very impressive with his reforms with improved value chain to cassava and exports, rice mills and fertiliser distribution reforms.
Works- Like the Op mentioned, GEJ is handling so many road contracts at the same time that one would begin to wonder what other presidents were doing before now. The Lagos-Ibadan road is a landmark which GEJ is doing after OBJ failed with concessioning.

Railway- Many Nigerians now travel by rail from Lagos-Ibadan.

Power- he has privatised DISCOS/GENCOS and using proceeds of the sale to upgrade the national grid. Soon, the problem of electricity will be history

Job creation. I love his YOUWIN strategy. I have seen beneficiaries who never knew anybody in govt get it.

how much were you paid for these lies. E-liar.

It is very f.oolish of you to go through all the issues I raised and the distinctions I made between OBJ /GEJ and all you could do is to come out with this lame response. It shows your low and ignorant mind.
Try and bring out one issue and disprove it then I will take you seriously. Don't let your hatred for Jonathan becloud your sense of reasoning.
Bukkyade: 12:15am On Dec 12, 2013
As far as I'm concerned, Obasanjo should not be mentioned in the same breadth with Jonathan.
President Jonathan is by far better than Olusegun Obasanjo. President Jonathan has performed far better than OBJ did in every department of governance and i don't need rocket science to prove this.

1. Power Reforms. Obasanjo stole Millions of dollars from Excess crude in the guise of NIPP Power plants. None was completed till Jonathan came to office. In less than 3 years, GEJ has completed and commissioned over 5 power stations.

2. Agriculture. Throughout Obasanjo's stay as president, faint regard was given to Agric reforms. He was just busy appointing Northerners to siphon Agric budgets without no policy directive. You can't say the same of Jonathan's govt. the Agric Minister Adeshina is really pursuing reforms to the extent that he was awarded Times Man of the year for Africa.

3. Transportation. OBJ grounded our railway system totally before he left. But GEJ is the one now reviving those moribund rails and laying new tracks. Lagos-Kano is now running.

4. Education. OBJ funded education below 300B throughout his tenure. GEJ has jerked funding in Education budgets from OBJ's meagre 300b to over 450B. In addition, he is committing additional 200B to ASUU which OBJ never did. GEJ has built 12 new universities and over 185 Almajiri schools in the North.

5. Works. Every major road in Nigeria is receiving attention under Jonathan because of the poor state in which OBJ left them. We all know how Ore-Benin road used to be under Obj. but GEJ is now doing it. Roads like East-West road were awarded by Obj and abandoned but GEJ has taken over to fund it to a great level. The same goes for ABJ-Lokoja, Kano-Maidugri Dualisation and Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
GEJ is the one now working on all of these roads.

6. Aviation. The state of our Airports under OBJ was a hideous eyesore. OBJ raised 100 Billion intervention fund without no single turn around of any Airport. Today the story has changed, We have now witnessed the remodelling of 22 Airports including the building of a new General Aviation Terminal in Lagos. Enugu Airport now hosts international flights etc

Mekusnwa: APC should stop noise making in Abuja and face reality.
The reality is that supplementary elections are holding in Anambra on Saturday. They have no option than to participate or forever hold their peace. APGA is on ground in Anambra state and will win that election any time any day.
If Ngige truly believes that he is popular in Idemili, I don't see any reason why he should not go home and contest.

This is just an escapist strategy to Dodge a humiliating defeat.

grin grin grin I saw the pictures of women that were protesting in another thread. Many of them were Yoruba women led by Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Abike Dabiri. I wonder what their business is in Anambra elections.

Sincere 9gerian: Southeast and southsouth not part of the N42 billion road contract bazzar. Na wa!

The entire 42 Billion is not upto half of what FG is spending on East-West road alone in the South South. FG is trying. We must cut some slack for them. It is not easy given the modest revenue available for all of these projects. After tight budgeting, Ministry of Works had about 184B allocated to them for road networks across the country in 2013.

Most of the highways cost more than the entire works budget hence the rationing and delay in execution. For instance, the Lagos-Ibadan expressway was awarded to Julius Berger at 160B. That is almost the whole Budget for Nigeria. Yet the Minister is managing it well and achieving results with the 184B.

uzomagic: Our health sector may not be in a state of eldorado and may not compare with what is available in advanced countries but it is not as bad and gloomy as some critics like this OP may paint of it.
There is no major federal university teaching hospital that has not received upgrade and refurbishment since Goodluck came in as president. It is not true that our hospitals are getting worse either.

If you go to jos, you will see the new permanent complex and facilities at the Jos university teaching hospital (JUTH). They have installed a dialysis centre for treatment of kidney failure an all. There's a new trauma management centre in National Hospital Abuja. I went to see someone at the Asokoro general hospital and you can't help but notice the refurbishment that the hospital has received under the present istration.

Few days ago, it was widely reported in the media that Dr Wada has successfully handled three kidney transplants in the hospital courtesy of the new equipment installed and dialysis center. The same applies to UBTH as my friend who is a resident doctor there can attest to the new cancer center in UBTH including rehabilitation of the hospital.
We know we are not there but lets acknowledge significant improvements that this govt has made in the health sector

You said the truth. But a lot of sentiments take the place of objective reasoning here. Someone will just come and poopoo all you have just said on the grounds that Patience travelled abroad for medical attention.
I hve always said it that patience Jonathan's trip abroad was a matter of choice and confidentiallity and not about the inefficiency of our system.
The first lady was suffering from ruptured appendicectomy and it is a surgery operation that many of our doctors handle here on a daily basis. The fact that she went abroad to treat it doesn't mean that we don't have competent doctors and equipment to treat it here in Nigeria.

Shebi this is the same Governor whoose son was caught travelling with over $10,000 dollars? He may also be the same boy whoose car hit a pedestrian in Kano? their own is becoming too much joor. Are they not well trained or what? This time around they are enmeshed in another fraud to the tune of 3 billion Naira. When I heard the news of their arrest and detention by EFCC, I felt it was a small thing until I heard the huge amount involved. This is very serious. EFCC needs to thoroughly investigate this matter and bring them to book. They say GEJ is not fighting corruption, maybe he has to set another example with this. This is too much. Too much corruption.

Maku is one of my Favourite and performing Ministers in the present istration. Even if you are an avowed hater of this istration, you can't help but ire the ion and committment with which he drives public information management.
Labaran Maku has a good way of addressing the public on the transformational agenda of Jonathan. I watched the ministerial platform and enjoyed his presentations all through the event.

Maku is seriously on point. He is highlighting all the remarkable achievements of president Jonathan in less than 2 years and I agree with him. He says the trains built by lord Lugard were comatose before GEJ came to power. But president Jonathan has in less than 3 years, rehabilitated the railway lines and got new locomotives with air conditioning systems to run the tracks. Under GEJ, train enger services have resumed between Lagos-Kano. The Itakpe-Ajaokuta has been completed with new tracks. By 2015, it's expected that train services will resume between PH-Maidugri while Enugu-Ph will be commissioned next month..

kokoA: Who cares if GEJ stayed up 24hrs to solve a problem?! Isn't that what he is elected and paid to do? If there is anybody ASUU should be concerned about, its our children who are at home instead of school, not a man who feeds on 1billion naira out of our pockets. The right thing must be done without sentiments. Our educational sector is far more important than one man's sleep!

GEJ wasn't elected to stay up late in the night discussing with ASUU to end a politically motivated strike.
No president in Nigeria's history has indulged ASUU with a direct discussion to end an industrial action.
GEJ went out of his way to do it and will be given due credit by posterity.

ASUU is not even interested in the education of our children. If they were, they would have returned back to classes immediately after that Aso rock meeting. GEJ allocated the highest funds to education in our history-450B in the 2013 Budget.

That nothwitstanding, He has offered an unparalleled 220B to ASUU to end this strike. Which other president has offered this much? Please be objective.

Initially, I didn't buy into the logic that ASUU is politicizing the strike. But when I listened to GEJ's last presidential media chat, I decided to give it a second thought. GEJ asked if ASUU was altruistic, state universities wouldn't be on strike.
That said. GEJ himself stayed up late in the night to discuss with ASUU for 13 hours yet ASUU is not touched. It's all politics.

At least we now get to hear about information on what SURE P funds have been used for contrary to the speculation in the media that all the money is missing. Where there is absence of government channels for information, rumours trend and wear the robe of truth.

From this op, it is evident that some part of SURE P was deployed to funding and resuming work on the long abandoned Abuja-Lokoja expressway. That is remarkable. Section 3 was inspected according to the OP, that is commendable. but they should keep on working and ensure speedy completion of that road so that motorists can have a smooth ride.

Sometimes, I wonder why some black people don't appreciate themselves. If not for anything, but for the reason that a black person can change the colour of their skin to white, but the white can never turn black no matter what you use and what doctor you visit. We are rare people, and specially made by Oluwa. Am proud to be black any day and anytime.
