Goodluck Jonathan the former president of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will become solid after the successfully conclusion of the December 9 National Convention. Addressing journalists after a visit to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike at the Government House Port Harcourt on Sunday, Former President Goodluck Jonathan said that an elected National Working Committee will set in motion the preparation for the 2019 General Elections. The chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) Dr Paul Unongo has stated that the North is dedicated to stick with President Muhammadu Buhari. Describing him as man of integrity and principle. If he contests with Buhari, he would win Atiku by 9 o’clock in the morning. Buhari is a tested and trusted principled leader. The presidency is not for the highest bidder. “We in the North have no problem on who to choose between Buhari and Atiku. We are not divided. But we are not going to vote to bring the PDP back to power. “The economy was knocked down by the previous istration and Buhari promised that he would bring it up and he did. The security situation in the country was terrible so much that the Boko Haram sect was taking over some parts of the North and Buhari promised that he would address the situation and he did. Nobody would contest that he has addressed substantially the issue of security in the country. He said he would fight corruption and today, they are recovering piles and piles of money including dollars even buried underground. Nobody had done that before. He promised these three and has delivered on all of them. Everybody is seeing what he is doing. There is no doubt that he is better than Atiku and I can assure you that we would stay with President Buhari.” When asked whether the north might miss out on the presidency if a strong candidate from the south emerges, he said: “I can predict exactly what the South would do. There appears to be cracks in the PDP ahead of its make or break national convention scheduled for December 9. It was revealed that there is a silent disagreement and misunderstanding between the former president Goodluck Jonathan and Gov. Nyesom Wike over who becomes the National Chairman of the party. A source said Jonathan wants any chairmanship aspirant other than Secondus to emerge victorious at the party’s national convention Wike is a key er of Secondus and is angry that instead of working to ensure that his fellow Ijaw brother becomes the next chairman, the former president was busy working against Secondus There are indications that former president Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State are at loggerheads over the Prince Uche Secondus’ bid to become the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Jonathan is said to be against Secondus, a frontline chairmanship aspirant in the party who hails from the Ijaw-speaking part of Rivers state and is reportedly mobilising serious opposition against him, The Nation reports. On the other hand, Wike and other southsoutth governors are strongly behind Secondus, a former acting Chairman of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC). Report has it that Jonathan is against Secondus because of the cold war between him and Wike and another southsouth governor who he believes frustrated an initial plot by his key loyalists to return him as PDP’s presidential candidate in 2019. A prominent PDP member who spoke in confidence, said: “Jonathan has continued to blame the failure of the plan on Wike and the other South-South governor. He believes that the duo frustrated his ambition to return as the party’s presidential candidate. “His next move is to stop any aspirant for the position of national chairman who has links with Wike. “He does not want Secondus, knowing that Wike is the one behind his ambition. “Unknown to many people, Jonathan and Wike have fallen apart and Jonathan’s wife is no longer close to the governor of Rivers state. “If Secondus is out of the way, Jonathan and his wife, Patience, will go for the structures of the PDP, especially in Bayelsa and Rivers states, to enable them to play key roles in the 2019 elections.” Report has it that Jonathan is working closely with PDP stakeholders in the north against Secondus and reportedly held various meetings with them to get their not to cast their votes for Secondus. The Logistics Command of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on, 18 November 2017, organized an environmental sanitation exercise for residents of Mafoluku, Shogunle and Ladipo in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, as part of its Quarterly Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) outreach programme. The CIMIC Programme, which was aimed at improving the cordial relationship between the Nigerian Air Force(NAF) and of the host communities, attracted a large turnout of NAF personnel. Residents of Mafoluku, Shogunle and Ladipo, who were the direct beneficiaries of the Exercise, expressed profound appreciation to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel for cleaning their environment. The residents, who were very glad at seeing the men in uniform cleaning their communities, expressed their willingness to continue to cooperate and the NAF in all its activities whenever the need arises. According to the residents, the proximity of the NAF Base to the communities has remained a source of blessing to the host communities. They, therefore, seized the opportunity to commend the NAF for its quick response to distress calls whenever there is a breach of peace in their communities. The Commander 651 Base Services Group Ikeja, Air Commodore Musibau Olatunji, who was represented by Wing Commander Alfred Ogbonda during the Exercise, stated that the concept of community relations is a crucial departmental activity in the NAF. He noted that engagements with the civil populace enhance relationship between the military and civilians while also encouraging mutual cooperation. According to him, “civilians see the military as unapproachable. We need to interact with them in a manner to show them that we are part of them,” he said. The Base Commander also noted that the Quarterly Exercise would reinforce the confidence and trust of civilians and create the mutual understanding, cooperation and necessary for the Nigerian Armed Forces to succeed in their operations.
