I that as a teenager, books by Danielle Steele were mostly tearjerkers. One of the books that evoked strong emotions in me was Lynda La Plante's "Entwined" about the lives and ordeals 2 women (identical twins) suffered as children in a Nazi concentration camp. I read this book almost 15 years ago and I still it vividly. It was a profound book and I will recommend it to everyone. I am not a La Plante fan and this is [I believe] the only book of hers that I have read. Also, it has been said that this book deviates substantially from her usual writing style and genre. I guess it was something she felt she had to write. |

opuro: Only with Naija people! If a woman is homo or bi-sexual, it is because she has not been shagged into submission or because she is filled with the devil. Abeg make una bite the bullet. The woman loves sleeping with women and that is that. JustGood: And pray tell, what will that achieve sir? JustGood: The last time I checked, in Nigeria (and even here in the UK), unfaithfulness (or adultery) as it is [legally] known can only be a ground for divorce if practised with a member of the opposite sex. The only ground that would be available here will be intolerable behaviour which the petitioner cannot be reasonably expected to put up with. |

@ Ndipe, your title is a little misleading. Mr. Akpan has not won the Commonwealth Prize. He is just the African Regional Winner. The overall judging is yet to be done. Moreover, his book is not a novel but a short story anthology.

And people wonder why more and more people are turning away from God or organised religion. Those Nigerian pastors and churches are something else. It is so disgusting the way they are so tuned into money. ![]() |

I turn my back for one minute. . . just one minute and you guys have cranked the Bradgelina versus Aniston brouhaha up several notches. Anyway, me I honestly do not give a damn about any of them o. But as for Karma saying that Brad left Jen for Ang simply because he wanted to start a family, all I can say is what a load of bollocks. It was lust; pure and simple. Let us not forget that before she hooked up with Brad, Angelina emphatically insisted that she was never going to bear kids of her own as there were already too many kids in the world without parents who needed to be adopted and loved and she was going to acquire all her children through adoption. If I recall correctly, her ex-hubby Billy Bob Thornton was not happy about this and it drove some sort of wedge between them. At what point did Brad take a look at a self-avowed adoption-only-mum and decide that since Jen was not ready to have kids yet, this woman who had sworn never to bear kids was the one who would provide the fastest route to his getting his own kids? Let's call a spade a spade. It was Lust! Lust !! Lust!!! Getting his own kids was an added bonus. Anyhow sha, na them sabi ojare. It wasn't the first time that a man left his wife for another woman and it won't be the last.

spikedcylinder: Abeg jo. Which useless colour? Place Rachel Woods dress side by side with Natalie and tell me that Natalie's dress is better. KarmaMod: Best ing Actress and Best Actress are not on the same level at all. It's like comparing best single or song to best album. Moreover, winning an Oscar in the past does not diminish the desire to win another nor does it reduce the disappointment when one loses (you need to check out Bette Davis's bitterness when she was deprived of her third Oscar by the machinations of Joan Crawford). |

KarmaMod: Abeg her dress was not the best. Not even best 3 (or in my personal opinion not even top 5). It is the Pink colour that made it stand out (Take away the colour and I am sure the critics would have barred their fangs at Natalie's dress). Did anyone else notice that there was a sort of similarity between the dresses of Natalie Portman and Evan Rachel Wood? Only that Ms Wood's dress was white. If the truth be told, I think her dress is way better than Natalies too. It has a nice exquisite cut. Marisa Tomei's dress was so much better. The intricacies of the dress, its cut etc was something else. |
