Clint02: You're going to be okay, my friend. You may be right about the length discrepancy because such does happen. And over time it may indeed cause issues with the upper body. However, one must start by confirming this to be true or find the explanation if this suspicion is disproved. Follow the advice already given and you should have answers at the end. 1 Like 1 Share |

In a private hospital, sure. In a general hospital he will have to go to the outpatient department first; seeing the specialist requires a referral letter. The general/family physicians will see him and they will either deal with the problem there, whatever it is or they will refer to the specialist, probably the orthopedist. Laird: |

It is amazing to me how we adopt all the modern conveniences of technological advances made possible by the thousands of hours of research into the understanding of all aspects of life. We use smartphones and cars and heaters etc without friction. With health, we suddenly become sceptical cavemen in our thinking. We no longer care about what is true or adopt what those who are knowledgeable have proposed. All of a sudden, our ancestors who somehow couldn't also figure out how to build a toaster know better than the modern health scientists. All of a sudden, the nearest uneducated fellow with herbs hanging around his yard is more powerful than the white man. The advise in this post is dangerous and unenlightened. The premise of the post is broken altogether. The life expectancy of a Nigerian is about 20 years lower than that of people who live in places where they listen to people who actually know what they're talking about. So, we may carry on with our so-called traditional ways, but let's not act surprised that we have more bad outcomes than necessary. Chapter 1: STDs Where do I even start with this one? The writer laments about STDs as though they are randomly thrown at individuals as they walk on the road. Rates of STDs are high because we don't take safe sex seriously. Everything from abstinence to condoms is now a joke. Having multiple sexual partners is now something we boast about. All of this among a population that has a collapsed healthcare system. Is it any surprise that the rate of STDs is higher? It is wiser to think about and adopt responsible ways of preventing ourselves from getting these infections in the first place, rather than roll the dice. The post also makes STDs appear to be moderate inconveniences that can be easily resolved with the right "medicine". The human body can be infected by various types of microscopic organisms. They are not the same and they do not behave the same way. Bacteria, Fungi, Viruses, Parasites all act in their own ways and are treatable or not treatable depending on what we are talking about specifically. Antibiotics are usually able to treat bacterial infections, with the caveat that if you treat late or improperly the damage done may already be irreversible. Viral infections like HIV and Hepatitis are arguably more dangerous and they can't be swatted away with antibiotics. CHAPTER 2: Antibiotics The idea that antibiotics are these magical forest creatures that you put in your bodies and they lay every bad thing to waste is very misinformed and frankly laughable. It's often as ridiculous as pouring salt on a snake just because you once saw an earthworm die like that. The right antibiotic may assist our bodies' defenses in killing only the right organism. What kills Staphylococcus may not kill Gonococcus. Staphylococcus and Gonococcus may be cousins but they live on different planets. In fact, what kills one type of Staphylococcus may not kill another type. It's a difficult field of medicine because these organisms are adapted to survive so they develop resistance to antibiotics relatively quickly. CHAPTER 3: How To Use Medicines Drugs are bad. Yes, I said that. All drugs are bad. They contain chemicals that can potentially harm you. Much the same way drinking too much water can harm you, or eating too much salt can harm you. They are meant to be used responsibly not just randomly. This applies to all drugs but it's more important for antibiotics because what they are targeting is an enemy that knows how to fight back. Antibiotics are like ranged weapons like rifles; yes, they give you an advantage, but if you put your rifle in close distance to a seasoned knife-wielding assassin, he'll disarm you and slice you in two then use your rifle to kill your friends. Alcohol is even worse. It is literally a poison in any quantity and it causes more cancers than most people are aware of. Using it as medicine just because it burns your throat is ludicrous. If you enjoy something burning your throat, save your money, buy pepper-soup, or lick Robb. CHAPTER LAST: What should you do 1. Don't be a fool. Protect yourself; be a responsible adult and use your private parts responsibly. If you cannot help but be impulsive, use a condom regularly at the very least. And try not to sleep with an entire town nor should you be sleeping with someone who is doing the same; you might as well be sleeping with all those people yourself. 2. Most STDs don't show any symptoms and you will still them along so relying on symptoms is a good way to start pointing fingers at each other when problems arise. 3. If you have symptoms or are concerned about exposure, GO TO A HOSPITAL! If they don't know what they are doing, go somewhere else. If you need someone to guide you appropriately still... me; happy to help for a token. 4. Alcohol is bad for you, don't be a fool. |

Good afternoon sir. This is an important topic, and it is one which doesn't get enough discussion time. Lots of misconceptions! Religion does not seek to counter common sense, but the majority have a warped understanding of their various religions. God made our bodies in a way that is logical and we are able to study and understand, and through that understanding we glorify God for the wonders that we are, and we learn about how to treat problems that arise in our bodies. Not to dwell too much on that... This woman, if she does indeed have breast cancer, appears to have advanced disease already. Before now would have been the time to seek care. In the early stages, treatment is as simple as removing the cancer before it has a chance to spread. In advanced disease, the problem is bigger so there are medications involved (chemotherapy), in addition to surgery to remove the breast. It depends on what they find in the hospital. She has to go to the hospital for proper evaluation and better answer to this question. Summary: there's no drug to use in place of breast removal if the disease is advanced enough to require breast removal. at that point we throw everything that can work at it and hope it is enough to keep the patient alive 1 Like |

Celestialsword: Thank you. High cholestrol is often a contributor to the problem, but it's not always the case. We don't want to treat blindly something we only suspect might be present if we have reasonably affordable means of testing for it first. So, the best thing is to let the doctors work it out in the hospital. if that is an option. Vitamin E is not useless, and it can be helpful, but focusing on it in place of a complete evaluation will lead to a worse outcome. It should be a part of a comprehensive plan. 2 Likes |

Fineman2: I'm sorry your mom is sick and I understand this is a difficult time for you. Here's what we know: your mom was okay one minute, and the next she couldn't move her legs or speak properly. This is shocking and new to you, and I see how it may seem almost magical or spiritual... But it's not. We aren't shocked or surprised by this because we see this all the time. We understand why this has happened and where to go from here; it isn't spiritual or mysterious. You are inclined to believe whatever you were told at the facility you took her to since they are supposed to be more knowledgeable on the matter, but I can assure you that this has nothing to do with typhoid. They've only successfully wasted your time, money, and some of your hope that hospitals know how to treat diseases. It is not arthritis either because that affects the ts gradually over years in an entirely different way from this. What it appears she has is a Stroke, just as you suspected. Most likely this was caused by high blood pressure. How? Well, when the blood pressure is really high, especially when it's been that way for a long time, it usually causes damage to the blood pipes, especially those in the brain. Instead of blood flowing around gently throughout the body like a steady stream, it rushes around the body like a raging storm. That is where the damage comes from. Unfortunately, that often causes the blood pipe in the brain to be so damaged that it can suddenly become blocked/or blown and whatever that part of the brain is meant to control will simply not function properly. It's usually the arms, legs and speech that are obviously affected. What to do next: Ideally we would need a brain scan to confirm what we suspect (a stroke). The scan will cost upwards of 50k depending on where you are, and it will show us evidence that a stroke has occurred. Additional tests are usually needed to check on the heart, liver, kidneys, sugar level, and cholestrol , since we often find problems there in people who have high blood pressure. Those tests may be fine, and some of them may not be fine. Better to know so we can start treating early. It would seem to make sense that the priority is to control the blood pressure, but that's not the case. Meaning: the fact that her blood pressure is better doesn't mean things are fine now. With a stroke, it's a matter of how badly damaged that part of the brain is. If it's a minor injury then many people will recover the function over time; if it's a major damage, there's usually nothing that can be done. There's hardly any way to tell that now so we just have to wait to see how she recovers. You will hear a lot of random ideas about some spiritual or herbal treatment, and you'll be so confused by it all you'll just try whatever you see. It doesn't help. It's almost always a waste of time and money, and hope. What can help: go to the general hospital closest to you. They will stress you but they will help. What does that help look like? Well, the tests already mentioned. Then the appropriate drugs. And usually physiotherapy later on. If you take her home, she may or may not show some improvement but you will not see the next stroke coming if one does happen because the biggest fear in someone who has suffered a stroke is a repeat stroke. Please go to the general hospital so your money and time spent would actually count for something. I hope you have a better understanding now and I hope you are able to make the right decision in this difficult situation. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Also... Are we just all okay with this AI slop now? AI has no business in making that image, as surely as it has no business in predicting malaria outbreaks. It's just more bloody laziness. That's all it is. What if computer do all work. What if human sit on chair all day. I'm starting to envy plants and rocks more and more everyday 1 Like |

NO This sounds to me like the mental gymnastics we do with global warming; essentially placing the burden on the people who contribute the least. You know why malaria is still a problem in Nigeria? Government policies! That's it. It's not because people are not re-imagining or re-growing or whatever flowery language we are using today. We are asking why people don't stay indoors or wear bulletproof vests instead of stopping the man that is shooting indiscriminately. These measures are good, yes, but they are good in the same way a plaster is good for a wound. Sure it is part of the process but you should maybe stitch the gushing wound before fighting about who put the plaster where. |

Blitzking: I had an idea about this a while backhttps://nairaland.unblockandhide.com/8361740/service-paid-medical-advise. I haven't figured out the right way to push it so it's largely abandoned but in theory it would at least make one feel less used. 1 Like |

SmartPolician: When a man tells you to prove you're a man by showing him your p3nis, you don't stoop to his level. The same Americans invaded iraq because of wmds. What iraq was supposed to show them it wasn't true, and then they wouldn't have invaded. The American military machine lies for profit. Period. And when they say the truth, it's spun for profit too. What is the detailed evidence for what detailed accusation. We all went to school. We have AI to summarize the one we're too stupid to understand. Let them explain to us before they start another WMD with hunt for profit. You heard massive reserves of gold and you don't already know the greedy american military machine has an angle 15 Likes 2 Shares |

Don't live above your means. Cut what you can't sustain for now and figure out how to generate more income. By the end of one year hopefully your status has increased and you can afford more things. 550k is not a lot but it is certainly nothing to be discontent with 1 Like |

We need to start sorting out the herbalists from those who actually know what they're saying on this Nairaland. OP has intractable pain from what appears to be disc herniation and subsequent nerve compression. Imaging has confirmed it, all that is needed is for a surgeon to examine and determine the next course of action. Physical therapy and medications is the usual way to go in mild cases; severe cases (and this one might qualify) may require surgery. Why surgery? Well, if the nerve is being compressed and nothing else has worked, and the symptoms are progressing... you're just waiting for nothing at that point. The nerve will continue to be compressed till the point that it not only stops being able to perform it's function, but it might even get beyond the point which surgery can reverse its function. The surgery isn't a coin toss. Its not a blind adventure into complication land either. Believe it or not, surgeons actually know what the heck they're doing. The risks involved will be explained. I'm surprised OP wasn't offered surgery, but not because the doctors know less than me. What is more likely is that the info we are getting has amplified some miscommunication between OP and his doctors; something they didn't explain well/ something he didn't quite understand/ something some random person has thrown in to confuse the situation (like half the suggestions on this thread). Solution: If you can afford it, go to one of the fancy private hospitals like EVERCARE in Lagos. I don't work there but I've gotten good results from there. Their services are crazy expensive though. Advantage: they can afford to make you feel welcome and proceed efficiently. Otherwise, stick with the teaching hospital. Go to a different one if you're unsatisfied. They're are overworked and underpaid and they won't be as chatty as you might like but they are qualified to help. Overqualified even. Herbalists will probably not help. They'll waste time and money though A chiropractor will probably not solve this, but I don't have enough data to say that definitively Pain meds should have helped if they were ever going to. |

Just so it doesn't seem like you've been given an affirmation by silence, let me be the one to say it: Is your herbal tea maybe useful. Yes, maybe. Are you deliberately misinforming people about what is a common and typically harmless bacteria, yes you are. Yes you are. And it's not ignorance cos you know what you're doing sir. 1 Like |
