The only time using a sponsor is a problem is when you are not using your parents as sponsors or ur siblings.

3rd party sponsors like Uncles, Bosses, Aunties, Lecturers e.t.c won't fly if you are not really convincing of their commitments to your study and stay in Canada...

There is nothing wrong in using a sponsor, dont be misled.

I used an aunt-in-law as sponsor. That's my wife's aunt and my application was approved. It is important to convince the VO as you rightly submitted.

Airline: Ethiopian airline, Air Canada, WestJet
Time of flight: 1:40pm.
Route: LAGOS - ADDIS ABABA - DUBLIN - TORONTO - CALGARY - SASKATOON.


My final note is, if you're flying with Ethiopian airline, please just be mindful of your self. Alot of drug peddlers going to Oman, Brazil, etc use them. So be mindful when someone just becomes unusually friendly.

No one has the right to collect your old expired port when you go for renewal.
They only need to sight it when you go for capturing.

When I did mine, they asked for it, showed them,got captured and left with my old port.
I have the old and new one with me.

If you really know your way, you can capture in September and get your new port before travelling(Rub palm).

Nigerian Embassies abroad will make life frustrating for you when you want to renew.

I would have advised you try to wait a little while in Nigeria and get it done once and for all but dropping the expiring port is not an option since that's where your visa is stamped.

1. You can go ahead and travel with your port. You will sought it in Canada. The Nigerian Association in New Brunswick do collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa to assist Nigerians in the province who need to renew their port. They just recently concluded an exercise but not sure when the next one will take place.

Once you get to New Brunswick and the WhatsApp group. You will be informed when they are going to start another exercise.

2. Another option is you starting the online process in Nigeria as some guys have advised and then you come and continue in Canada.

You can weigh your options. All the best with classes!

Since your port is expiring in less than a year, I will advise that you simply renew it in Nigeria before you start coming. Alternatively you may wish to book an appointment at the embassy before your arrival, ensure the appointment date falls within your second month of arrival (if you intend to leave your port in the embassy), that way you can use your port for all the processes that will require port presentation within your first month of arrival.

Do consider the need for you to travel to Ottawa for the renewal application and the protracted wait time. You may be lucky to get your port ready within three months of application. you also need to pay 50CAD (in the form of money order to the embassy) in addition to the regular port fee you will pay online (108USD).

I would have loved to renew it here, but i was told i can't start until September (i.e 6 months to expiry) and they will collect the old port which has my travel visa on it which i am going to use in September. That has been the dilema.

It's your application, not mine. If you want to bombard IRCC with emails, please do that by all means. I only shared my opinion.

It is clearly written on the website that you can raise webforms once your application has ed the normal processing time. I sent one webform one week after the normal13 weeks processing time and they responded few days after.

I understand the anxiety, but it will end in praise.

You can start the process and book appointment but you will still need to travel to ottawa nigeria embassy for port photo capture ,complete the process and port will be mail by ed post to ur address in sant john when ready

Dear Seniors,

Please i need your advice and guidance on how easy/fast it is to get port renewed in Canada.

I am due to start my 1 year program in September at UNB Saint John. However, my port will expire 1st week of february 2023 hence my Visa expiry date is tied to it.

I want to ask if i can start the online renewal process before I leave Nigeria so I can get an appointment once I resume or I should wait till I get there before starting the process. Also, how easily can one got to Ottawa from Saint John?
