Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa Awards N31Billion Contract To Build New High Court Complex, N1.2Billion To Renovate Govt House VIP Lodge

The approval was given at the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the governor, a document seen by SaharaReporters showed.

Ondo state government led by Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved N31.1 billion for the construction of a new High Court Complex in Akure, the state capital amidst harsh economic conditions facing residents of the state.




The approval was given at the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the governor, a document seen by SaharaReporters showed.

The contract was awarded to Westfield Global Construction Company at a cost of N31.111 billion and it is to be completed in 48 weeks.

In another document, the Aiyedatiwa-led government also awarded N1.2 billion for the renovation and furnishing of the VIP lodge in the Government House in Akure.

The contract was awarded to a company named Oakland Construction Concept and it is expected to be completed in 12 weeks.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported how the award of N775 million for the remodeling of main gate and perimeter fence of the Government House in Akure by the governor generated controversy within the state.

One of those who questioned the cost is a lawyer and activist from the state, Kayode Mogbojuri.

Kayode in a post on Facebook had said, “Mr. Aiyedatiwa reportedly awarded approximately N800M for the remodeling of main gate and perimeter fence of Government House grounds main gate.



“Aiyedatiwa is becoming financially reckless and Ondo State people need explanations on how the resources for the state is being spent.”



Another Facebook , Funmilayo Moyosoore had said, “I learnt Aiyedatiwa approved Fence (Wall of Jericho) construction for #774m …….. Who will curtail Lagidigba.”

Days after the report, the state government, through the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Emmanuel Igbasan, said the figure listed was a typographical error.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has accused the governor of spending N2.4 billion on projects it described as wasteful and irrelevant to the people of the state, especially during a time of widespread poverty.

In a statement by PDP spokesman, Kennedy Peretei, the party condemned Aiyedatiwa for approving N1.2 billion for renovating the state’s V.I.P Lodge, asserting that building a new lodge would have cost lesser if corruption is not involved.

“How many Ondo residents will benefit from a renovated V.I.P Lodge?” Peretei said.

“A governor who neglects the welfare of his people cannot claim they are fortunate to have him in office,” it said.

In response, Ondo Commissioner for Information, Wale Akinlosotu, defended the spending, stating that the approvals were aimed at enhancing the state’s infrastructure.

The Nigerian economy since President Bola Tinubu took over the affairs of the country in May 2023 has grappled with a series of complex challenges, with the prices of food rising almost on a daily basis.

Hunger and poverty have increased across the country, including in Ondo State, as a result of government policies such as fuel subsidy removal, among others

Ondo Guber: Youths protest, call for redeployment of INEC REC, Babalola

—Accuse her of hobnobbing with politicians
—- Redeployment of REC beyond us here- Secretary

Youths under the auspices of Ondo State Youth Vanguard, in Ondo state, have protested against the alleged hobnobbing of the state INEC REC, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, with politicians in the state and called for her redeployment ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
The protesting youths, who stormed the commission’s office in Akure, the state capital, were armed with placards of various inscriptions.
Some of the inscriptions which read “Ondo REC must be changed”, “Our election must count”, “Ondo is not Edo”, Ondo REC must go” among others called for the removal of the REC.
The leader of the group, Olawale Ijanusi, said that the peaceful protest became necessary to their grievances over the activities of the REC.
Ijanusi alleged that Babalola has been holding private meetings with leaders of some political parties.
According to him, a discreet investigation conducted by the group on Babalola has been holding nocturnal meetings with some political.

“This raises serious concerns among the citizens, voters, and stakeholders in Ondo state of the impartiality and neutrality of the INEC

Ijanusi who said that Babalola is from Ondo state, added that she had been living with her parents for more than ten years before she was appointed as the Ondo REC while her parents are card-carrying of a political party.

According to him “The Ondo State REC has been living in Akure the state Capital at No.3, Majekodunmi Street, Ijoka area, Akure with her parents for more than ten years before her appointment as the State REC and her parents are known to be card-carrying of a political party.

“The above facts which are in the public domain are an attestation to the fact that Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola will not and can never be fair, unbiased, and an uncompromised umpire in the forthcoming Ondo State Governorship Election as the REC.
“We have been hearing rumours that the REC Chairman, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, has been engaging with certain political parties. We do not know whether it is the APC, PDP, or Labour Party, but we want to caution her and demand that, if true, she should stop.
“Because if she is d with the APC, PDP, or Labour Party, there is no way the election will be free and fair. That is why we are demanding her replacement for the sake of this election.

“Our vote must count because Ondo is not Edo State. Our vote must count,”

The youths who demanded the immediate removal of the Ondo REC said ” This demand became necessary and imperative to safeguard the electoral Integrity and fairness and level playing ground in the forthcoming Gubernatorial Election in Ondo State.
“It is our firm belief that your Commission has the sacred duty and responsibility to protect the integrity of the Electoral process and maintain public trust in the forthcoming Election in Ondo Staten
“We hereby urge you to use your good offices to immediately transfer Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola out of Ondo State and to be given another role within your Commission and appoint a neutral, unbiased, and credible individual as the REC of Ondo State to superintend the forthcoming governorship election.

“This is not merely a request, but also an imperative duty to safeguard the integrity of the INEC as the Commission responsible for protecting democracy and electoral processes carried out in the nation at large”

But while addressing the protesting youths, the istrative Secretary of the commission in the state, Abiodun Amosun, lauded the peaceful manner the youths expressed their grievances.
Amosun who assured the protesters that every vote would count during the election, said that “INEC, as the umpire, would ensure a free and fair election in the state.
Speaking on the allegations against the REC, Amosun, said the allegations against the REC would be handled at the National headquarters of the electoral body.

According to him “We have heard your demands. The issue will be handled at the headquarters because she was appointed from Abuja.

“It is not easy for INEC to tamper with your votes or results. Ensure you have a situation room where you collate results from the polling units.”

IT IS TIME TO IMPEACH ROTIMI AKEREDOLU.

The time has come for the Ondo State House of Assembly to immediately begin the impeachment process of Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN for violation of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

It is no longer news that Ondo State has been on auto-pilot for nearly six months, grounding all activities of the government due to the ill health of the Governor.

Unfortunately, rather than tell the citizens the truth, most of Akeredolu’s handlers have resorted to insulting the sensibilities of the people by making a public show of their ignorance. The handling of Akeredolu’s condition by his aides has robbed the Governor of public sympathy.

The Constitution envisaged that, it is possible for a State Governor to be ill or incapacitated as it is the case with Akeredolu now and therefore made safeguards.
Section 193(2) states expressly that “the Governor of a state shall hold regular meetings with the Deputy Governor and all Commissioners of the Government of the State for the purposes of –
a. Determine the general direction of policies of the state” amongst other provisions.

When was the last time Akeredolu held a State Executive Council meeting?

It is not a crime to be ill, but that will not be reason an entire state must be brought to her knees.

Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) Ondo State Chapter calls on the State Assembly to invoke sections 189(1) to cause a Medical to be instituted to ascertain Akeredolu’s medical status and do the needful in the interest of the people of the state.

Our party wishes to urge the Governor’s aides to stop ridiculing themselves by defending the indefensible and standing logic on its head.

HOW AKEREDOLU LED APC FAILED TO STALL "AKETI MUST RESUME OR RESIGN" PROTEST.

As early as 6.00 am this morning, a combined team of Police, SSS men and Anti-cultists Unit of the Nigerian Police stormed the Ondo State PDP Secretariat with Amourned Personnel Carrier (APC), more than 8 Hilux vehicles and nearly 400 men in all to seal off the secretariat in order to stall a PDP Youth Wing protest to demand the whereabouts of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu who has not been seen in Ondo State since April this year.

Even staff of the secretariat were denied access to their offices. The stern-looking officers offered no explanations.

However, it took frantic efforts of of the PDP State Working Committee before the secretariat gate was opened amidst serious tension and confrontation.

PhotoJournalists were threatened to stop recording anything lest, their cameras were smashed. But as the PDP youths forced themselves into the secretariat, proceeding on a street protest would amount to daring the trigger-happy police to do their worst.

As much as the officers tried to stop the protest, they failed because the youths displayed their banners and placards to Journalists who gained entrance into the secretariat.

As we speak, the policemen are still in front of the secretariat with their vehicles. I want to use this medium to appeal to the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police and the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command to immediately withdraw their men from our secretariat. We cannot be intimidated by security agents who are paid with taxpayers' money. We have the right to demand for the whereabouts of the governor if he is missing in action.

Early yesterday, the APC spokesman in a fear-laden statement accused the PDP of instigating crisis in Ondo State. We make bold to say that the presence of the security men is not unconnected with the APC's fear of its shadow and their failure to get Akeredolu to come to Ondo State for the assignment he was elected for.

Let it be known to all, that we shall continue to demand for Akeredolu to resume or resign until either is achieved.
