How do i apply the dongoyaro fluid,i mean the quantity to mix in the 16 litre spraying tank.
jethro2:

The local method: Get some dongoyaro seed. Grind and soak in water for a week or more. Sieve the content and use the water as insecticide to spray the chilli pepper.
2. Plant basil leave intervally within the pepper farm.

Common method.
Use insecticide.
But over time insects becomes resistance to the insecticide.

Best is to keep trying different methods

Words cant express how happy i am on your quick response. Pls ma,how do i apply this Furadan(am a student of YABDI Abeokuta, doing chilli pepper presently on 4 plots. I love to farm tomato but missed your theory session).
jethro2:

Fungicide can be use to treat the soil before planting eg Furadan.
Bhurlagy(m): 7:52pm On Jun 10, 2015
Thanks alot ma,am talking about controlling tse-tse flies on chilli pepper.
jethro2:

To sterilize; You cook the soil to a very high temperature. This will kill all the remnants nematodes eggs from the previous season planting.
Solarise; During the preparation of the soil after ploughing you leave it to receive maximum sunlight for minimum of 2 weeks or more.
Tsetse fly/ white fly: Some hybrid tomatoes are resistance to this
Bhurlagy(m): 11:05am On Jun 10, 2015
Thanks Madam Jethro2,how do i sterilize or solarize the soil. Whats the cause if the big tse-tse flies are always on the pepper leaves.
jethro2:
@ Bhurlagy.
Once the foundation is wrong the house can not stand.
Vegetables are very delicates and one needs to get it right from the begining.
Your Soil is very important.
You need to know the history of the soil before planting.
By history i meant what was planted there before.
Steps in raising a healthy plant include but not limited to:
1. Treat the soil by sterilization or solarisation. Both nursery beds and the field
2. Use poultry waste or other organic content to revive the soil
3. Use resistance seed
4. Nursery management is very essential.
5. Regular and consistence watering.
6. Use net to protect against insects.

The possibility of having a healthy annd productive plant greatly reduced if any of the step is omitted.

Its hard and by luck for vegetables to recover or survive once they are infected.

Prevention is better than cure really applies to vegetables especially tomatoes.

Its one of the most delicate crop to plant.

I hope you are able to salvage some of your plants?

I also hope this help to some extent even if its coming late.

Best of luck

I only apply insecticide and fungicide on the pepper. Am using dried poultry manure as fertilizer.
jethro2:

How did you treat your soil?. What have you applied or have been applying in term of fertilizer etc

Pls answer my question @ Olamimo. How do i control/treat the soil which i planted pepper of nematode or termite infestion. Also when and how do i apply dry poultry manure(am practising organic farming).

That is stress. There may be many causes for it. The most common facror is insufficient watering. But if it is during hot weather in the afternoon, that is normal. They will regain strength when the day become cool. Then look out for termites. They might present in the soil, disturbing the roots. Thanks alot sir, what is the solution if the soil/roots are being disturbed by nematode/termite.

OLAMIMO12:

Causes of leaf roll in pepper and tomato are many. Stress, due to watering. Too much water or insufficient supply. If this is the cause, it could be easily reverse. Another one is too much nitrogen in the soil due to over-fertilization. Too much prunning at a time may also be the cause.
I want to believe that it is not fungal disease. Try to analyse the possible cause of leaf roll. Dont panic please. it is a common problem of pepper and tomato.
Thanks for your quick response to my question. Pls kindly help on this question, how can i rectify pepper leave weakenin(sorry for usin dis word as i dnt knw how best to describe it)bt in yoruba lang. ewe ata nro bi pe o fe ku.

@Bhurlagy people said there is a selective herbicide for pepper ie broad leave, but I have not personally used it if any one have used it should pls tell us the name and the mode of application. I know very well that u can use any herbicide but mind u, you have to be careful while doing that, other wise weed manually.... OLAMIMO12

Once a Tomato plant is infected with any disease, the best option for you is to remove and destroy the infected plant by burning or pouring chlorine on it. Leaving an infected Tomato plant on your field may be detrimental to all your crops and some insects may spread the disease all around your field.
The two diseases that wreck Tomato farms often are Blight and Bacteria Wilt. Bacteria wilt is prevalent in SW Nigeria so Bacteria Wilt resistant tomato variety is advised to be planted. This disease has no cure once it infects your tomato plant. You can however get your soil cured from it by using plastic solarisation or the use of methyl bromide (most countries have banned its use). I also heard that the use of organic inputs can significantly reduce the incidences of bacteria wilt. Hydroponic farming or the use of sterilised soil in planting bags will solve most of these disease problems.
For Blight, the best remedy is prevention. You must make sure your tomato plants have a fungicide coating always. Some farmers drench their tomato plants with fungicide before and immediately after any rain.
The black spot below the tomato fruit looks like Blossom End Rot to me. Its either your soil has inadequate calcium or your tomato plant did not get enough water hence its inability to fully get enough calcium from the soil.
I am not an expert anyway but I am talking from experience.
Thanks very much for the info. Learn alot from this cos i experince same on a plot i tried last year.
Can explain how it pains me when i missed Jethro's class at Yabdi Abeokuta last two month.
Where is your farm location sir,i like to visit so as to learn more as am already on pepper ny now(am in Ijebu-ode)
Once again,thanks alot.

The 7 decisive factors in successful farming of cucumber. (Most of these rules apply to farming in general).

1. The most important factor is the SEED you are planting.
Is it a local or a foreign seed?
Is it an open or a closed seed?
Is it a hybrid or General seed?
These and more are the things you find out before ever purchasing seed for planting. Some seeds can produce 1tonne of cucumber per hectare each harvest, others can produce 500kg, 200kg, even as low as 50kg. And some can produce up to 2-3 tonnes. Under the same agricultural conditions. (A kG of cucumber sells for minimum of N150 in wholesale).
Another role the kind of seed can play is in deciding how long you can harvest. Some 3-5 times some 5-10times while a select few can go 15-20 times before they wither. (Other factors contribute to how long harvest lasts)

So, you can see that the type of seed used is a very very vital factor

No. You can not intercrop with pepper and maize. Its a crawling/creeping crops that requires lot of space. Planting is 1m by 1m

I appreciate your quick reply.
Why staking then, though i learnt it makes d fruit neat and easy to spray.
Correct me if am wrong.
Bhurlagy(m): 12:09pm On Nov 18, 2014
1. 2-3 seed per hole for cucumber planting
2. NPK 2 -3 weeks after planting, liquid fertilizer when its fruiting
3 Yes, you have to take to the market. The agents in the market have their own commission.
4 Agritropic is the distributor of technisem products in Ibadan. name is Mr Dayo 08030886296.
The office is beside custom, close to secretariat at Agodi Ibadan.
