Frankly I thought his response to your question was rather harsh, at the same time I just felt it was coming from a place of 'students who are not genuine spoiling it for others', so cut him some slack.

Don't take it to heart and I personally don't think any question is stupid, in your case I see sincerity of purpose most people mask their true intentions with schooling.

That said, study permit is solely for study purposes, after which you are allowed to work legally otherwise you 'll create avoidable problems for yourself in future (I am not talking from experience but research)

Why not try Express Entry, it seems to be what you want.
