shymmex: This the topic Nigerians at home and in the diaspora should have a discourse about. Let's leave countries we have no stake in alone, and focus on our continent..

My hypothesis:

Till we rid Nigeria off retards - and uncle toms, we would continue to be the most disappointing country on this planet... Nigeria has so much potentials - but nothing to show for it... Most of our so-called 'educated' people are clowns with herd mentality who can't think critically... Nigerian educated class are also notorious of having low self-esteem.. cool

Obviously, South Africa is more developed because of the oyinbos there! Our time will come eventually. You can't force development on a people; they have to grow into it and adapt it to suit their style. On the other hand, you can't stop a once developed country from sliding into decline. Take Greece for example, once the most developed in the world and has been declining for decades. The Euro debacle is just the latest stage in it's slow painful decline.

Throughout history, civilization and learning has been foistered onto peoples through colonization and being conquered. Egyptians on Greeks, Greeks on Romans, Romans on British, British on West Africans etc. Unfortunately, the Romans only came down as far as Libya centuries ago. Mosquitoes and Tse tse flies must have impeded them. If they had succeeded in reaching west africa, then the story most likely would have been different.

Anyways, the british came to us and all we need to do is remain in Nigeria and dig it out, rather than seeking easy money abraod.

From my personal experience, the pretty girls who are vain etc., are the ones who've been pretty right from when they were little and maintained or even improved in adulthood. They are the type when told they are pretty will so "I know".

On the other hand, you have the late bloomers. The ones who were ordinary as kids then suddenly bloomed in their mid to late teens. They look really fyyyynne, but inside they're still ordinary. Sometimes they wonder what the fuss is all about them being pretty. Such girls are generally nicer and more homely.

From the comments I see on NL, its very easy to see why Nigeria has the type of leaders we have. A people deserve the leadership they get. Nigerians are the indeed very vile, evil, selfish, unpleasant and wicked people. Never will you come across such blind, unwarranted and unprovoked pure undiluted hatred, as is displayed on a daily basis. It's almost subhuman. God forbid!

OK. I'm not a GEJ hater, but I place all this squarely at his feet. Like WTF!! Does this man really understand what's going on in the security forces? Why do we still have an acting IG, and why is he who he is? At this rate, if GEJ doesn't sit up, they'll be parading him on camera and in handcuffs as a suicide bomber!

How can you even compare fake durag, usher wannabe twins with Dbanj and wizkid

Their ibotic accent piss me phuck off.. Tell them twins to start acting their age...

Wizkid is doing sold out big arena concerts in the UK, by himself... P-square ain't even on that level yet...

Ok, this bittyend guy is a joke and a straight time-wasting Igbo hater, so nothing reasonable can come from him. It looks like you've got a huge hard-on for Igbos so much that once you hear the word 'Igbo' (or the sekzy accent wink), it get's your blood rushing.

I've got a solution for you. Grab a large tub of vasiline and,... wait for it... Igbo, Igbo, Igbo, Igbo, Igbo, Igbo, Igbo, Igbo. Oya, u know what to do with the vasiline.

Fool, Rita Ora is NOT NIGERIAN!! And Tinie was featured, the record don't belong to Tinie... FYI, Rita Ora is signed to Roc nation, and she's Rihanna's replacemet, so she would have made number1; with or without Tinie.

You guys are claiming oyinbo people as ibo too?? shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked grin grin grin

Omo you need to slow down o! Or cant u read properly. U r so deeply biased that you cant even read straight again. I bet you're even foaming in the mouth as u type.

Let me repeat myself bwouy so that mans like u can understand. There are two NIGERIANs involved in the singel (1) Tinie Tempah who was featured and (2) Nneka whose song was sampled.

Let me know if u r still confused. Also please note the operative word, NIGERIANs

Fool, is Tinie Tempah on Dizzy's level?? Dizzy's dad is Yoruba, and he grew up around Yoruba dons... Danny Shittu, the naija footballer is his don, and I know Danny Shittu... Skepta is doing his thing, and lowe that thrash pop Tinie is dropping...

Has Tinie ever made a tune by himself without featuring people?? Dizzy has done that bare times, and Skepta made himself... Man like Skepta, is a don... Dizzy is like a god to Tinie...

Don't ever compare Yoruba music legends to ibos, that's like comparing a midget to a basketball player... grin grin grin grin

Yoruba culture is music itself, don't get me started.

Really son! What's Dizzy's real name then?? Go sleep jare, Dizzy is Ghanaian, if anything.

There you go again dropping these strange names, who in phucks name is Danny Shittu?

Skepta needs to ' the mic', he's trying too hard. He's done grime, hip hop, pop everything and he's just barely hanging in there. He's big in Tottenham though smiley

Mr. Globe:
Presently, NO Nigerian Artist is bigger than the pretty Nneka internationally. None. She is getting her weight up internationally while others are using fake hype to decieve ignorant Nigerians.

As we type, there are two Nigerians involved in the current UK no.1 single, Rita Ora ft Tinie Tempah - R.I.P. The song contains a sample from Nneka's song 'Heart Beat' and Tinie Tempah is Nigerian.

I'll give you Chamillionaire for Chiddy b.ang lol. Even my boy Phil Ade is better than Chiddy Bang lol.

If it's "Def Jam" Africa, then it has to be a subsidiary of Def Jam USA. From the way Dbanj was talking in that his infamous six-spliffcigarette-smoking-interview, I could tell he was angling for the Def Jam Africa role. This na serious business sha!

While I acknowledge the fact that it's not easy to be No.1 in any chart (even if its groundnut seller’s compilation charts), why mislead nairalanders by posting an obscure chart from shazam (Shazam New Release Chart UK) and presenting it as an official UK urban chart?

I'm afraid this topic is a bit of a red herring!

It's simply a case of Nigerians wanting to buy quality products at decent prices. I've seen people coming to shop in London with budgets ranging from a few hundred pounds to hundreds of thousands of pounds. They want a good deal and want to be sure of what they are buying. Apparently, these things are way overpriced in Nigeria ( where they are available & quality can be guaranteed ). If every American who wanted to buy quality products had to come to London, then they'll probably be outshopping Nigerians 100-1!

obo_man: The first reason I'm gonna give is climate.. Yes differences in climate could be the reason why africa is backward. Is it a coincidence that most of the most developed and innovative countries are temperate regions of the earth?

My reason for giving this reason is because temperate regions produce less social activtives that could hinder innovation. Eg, the long winter periods europeans experience every year makes them stay indoors, which in turn makes them innovative, because with serenity, quietness and tranquillity comes invention and creativity.

Whereas, in the tropics (of which africa is situated), there are noisy and sometimes chaotic activities, which most often have less time for ourselves to think and get creative..warmth as we all know encourage such actitivies.

My second reason for giving climate are diseases..it is a fact that there are more tropical diseases than temperate diseases. If malaria no kill u for africa, other tropical insects go kill u.. These diseases place our creativity @ disadvantage, because time spent in doing other creative things, our system, brain and selves use it to fight tropical diseases.

Finally, let's look at rate of decay in these two regions. A caveman in stone age that has jus hunt a deer is better off than an african in that same period.. The caveman need not worry about rot, nature serves as Freezer for him.. This enables him to do other productive things with his time, instead of worrying about his meal or going regularly to hunt like his african counterpart.

In summary, time you save, you use it to invent, get creative and you then these skills to your next generation.
Africans have never been socially backward compared to their european counterparts, the only place we lagging behind are in science, advanced medicine and technology. Socially, they not any better, they fought two senseless wars that almost killed 150 million people, yet there are places in africa that has been peaceful for 500 years.

I'll also have to disagree with you here too. The Indian sub-continent is also very hot, and in some areas, even hotter than places in West Africa. They were however, still able to come up with a form of writing and counting, and also make some very reasonable forages into philosophy and medicine before the white man arrived there.

I strongly believe that it is the negative aspects of our culture that has held us down throughout our history and is still affecting us now.

OzReal:
3. The effects of colonialism still reverberates in Nigeria, and all around Africa. As much as I believe that we are our own greatest enemies and cause of most of our problems, the 'invisible' hands of the colonial masters cannot be dismissed lightly. We all know the saying that: "He who pays the piper, call the tune"; in the case of Africa, this is very true. We already know that our continent possesses vast resources and all, but we also know that we are in a very weak position against the West and if I might add, China. This weak position has put us in a situation whereby we cannot easily dismiss or go against their(powers that be) vested or potential interests in the continent, otherwise the results of doing so could be more devastating than they already are.

These are some of the reasons I believe that Africa is in a backward state.

I have to disagree disagree with u here as u are missing the point entirely. Don't u understand that is this deficient culture that kept us in such a state that, when the white man came, we were practically defenseless? Didn't we appear on this earth before them? So how come they were so ahead of us when they came that they took us so easily and cheaply? Or are u trying to say that they are naturally more intelligent than us?
