@RiyadhGoddess The issue is a very complex one that needs a complete societal overhauling.

SEX-FOR-GRADE: A NATION WHERE HYPOCRITES SIT ON JUDGMENT OVER HYPOCRISY! I do not like writing on trending social issues but I have been pissed off by the usual display of 'JUDGMENTALISM' by Nigerians since this Unilag (again?) story broke out. Nigerians can pretend and I will explain why. Some time around 2015 or 2016, a younger female friend I knew through this platform, Olateju Modupeola Arike, called me and asked if I knew one particular school in Ogba and I answered in the affirmative. She later told me a nephew of hers was to write Common Entrance exams there. We eventually got to the school, with the little boy. When we got there, we noticed that a woman was addressing parents but I didn't know what the issue was. We were to find out later that the woman was the general supervisor and she was complaining bitterly that invigilators had been put under intense pressure by parents who were offering various forms of gifts and inducements to allow their kids to be "assisted" during the exam. In a nutshell: PARENTS WANTED INVIGILATORS TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY WHEN THEY (PARENTS) BRING 'EXPO' TO doIR WARDS INSIDE THE EXAM HALLS. Yet, this was just Common Entrance Examination! If as a parent you were doing this for your 10 year-old child, what MORAL FOUNDATION were you laying for him or her? Parents pay for 'special centres' for the kids to WAEC. They pay for placement in federal unity schools. They pay for issions. They pay for good grades. Mind you: MOST TIMES, THEY ARE NOT ASKED; PARENTS OFFER. I can tell you authoritatively that I HEARD OF A PARENT WHO TOLD A LECTURER TO NAME HIS PRICE TO HELP HIS SON PRODUCE HIS LONG THESIS AS THE BOY WON'T HAVE TIME BECAUSE OF SUMMER HOLIDAY. Yet, SAME YOU are on Facebook condemning sex-for-grade in Unilag. Can you imagine? There was a time we did a Special Report on issue of sex-for-marks in varsities and you will be SHOCKED to discover that most times, it was OFFERED rather than being DEMANDED. Why is this so? Students are greatly distracted from their studies. Only few pay attention to what they were sent to varsity to do. A female student could leave University of Benin to Lagos to come and greet a man/boyfriend and will stay for over a week while her studies suffer. We all know this. "Send me transport and I will be in Lagos tomorrow." These are usual lines on Facebook messenger. Am I lying? Some eat their 'patrons' money and yet others show up. Many do not have time for Continuous Assessment yet, they want to be given 20 over 30! Secondly, ask an average Nigerian graduate to write an essay for you and you will weep for Mother Nigeria. They are simply poor (AND THEY KNOW) but they want good grades. Now let us it: THERE ARE SITUATIONS WHEN SOME IRRESPONSIBLE LECTURERS ASK FOR SEX. SOME EVEN FAIL YOU IF YOU DON'T COOPERATE. I am not disputing that. But if a female student knows she is good, why can't she take up the case and report to appropriate authorities? I just read on Doyinsola Ajokeade Ilori wall how a friend of hers in her varsity days "succeeded" in changing her E grade to an A grade! I can go on. It is a societal thing. And many of us are guilty. Many men ASK for sex to assist. And many females OFFER it to get what they want. Let the randy lecturer face the music. But it does not change the fact that we are a NATION OF HYPOCRITES. What you offer or demand might even be worse than sex! *Copied* 1 Like |

NIGERIA’S premier university, University of Ibadan, has again confirmed its lead position by ranking as the topmost university in the country in the January edition of the 2018 Webometrics. It, however, ranks 1099 in the world (still the only Nigerian university in the top 1000 bracket in the world). University of Ibadan is trailed in the second position by the Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State (the only private university in the top 46 bracket) and the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, in the third position. Despite being held down by protracted and debilitating industrial crisis last year, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, still got rated as the best state university in the current Webometric ranking, 14th in the country and 3680th in the world. The highest ranked polytechnic is the Auchi Polytechnic 48th in Nigeria and 8623rd institution in the world; followed by the Yaba College of Technology (65th Nigeria, 10,911th world) and The Polytechnic, Ibadan (77th Nigeria, 12,202nd world). TStv, a new pay TV company, is beginning a journey to challenge the largest company in Africa by market valuation. Naspers which owns MultiChoice operates the DStv brand across sub-Saharan Africa. DStv is a digital satellite TV service which leads its category in the region. It is well funded by South Africa’s Naspers which has a valuation of $100 billion, more than 30% of the total market value of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. In this piece, I explain the opportunities before TStv and its strategy. I also explain why DStv will be a hard to crack. DStv has answer for TStv via GoTV. StarTimes is also there along with video-on-demand players like iROKOtv, Netflix and DStv's Showmax. Sure, Goliath has been defeated before and TStv should go for it. At the end, I do think we will have Apple iOS and Google Android scenario here. DStv will be the Apple while StarTimes/TStv will be the Android. The latter set will be everywhere while the former keeps the profit. So, at the end, DStv with its contents and higher pricing will keep more than 60% of the profits in the sector. That profit is what Naspers is really interested in. http://tekedia.com/tstvs-goliath-challenge-of-dstv/ |

The problem of Nigeria is unemployment. Give the youths jobs to do and they will be too busy to engage in such protests as the IPOB. The truth is that these youths are sponsored by very wealthy people outside the country and that is the secret of their readiness to die while in operation. They must satisfy their employers. President Buhari should be more humane, create jobs and grant amnesty for the youths under trial and things will change for better. IPOB thrives in Aba, Umuahia, Onitsha, Nkpor, Abakiliki and Ogidi because those places are largely occupied by school drop-outs and the unemployed youths. Let good roads and social amenities also be provided for the South East and the youths will not have reasons to be restive. |

cold:I attribute miseries such a creation to a supreme; which your atheistism cannot explain, same way religious books could not give its true . I need not to know the supreme being in question, all I need is to see unfathomable misseries beyond the scope of science to know that he/she exist. |
![]() |
cold:Clearing my throat!! I believe that something is behind the miseries on this earth, yes I do. I believe that religions were fabricated, yes I do. I believe that religion should be separated from God, yes I do. If religion is separated from God, atheicism cannot strive. You guys are using the flaws in the religious books to refute the existence of supreme being. You have no evidence to proof the non existence of God, yet you believe he/she doesn't exist. One does not neede religion to know that something is beyond the miseries that scince could not fathom. I don't need to pray/communite with him: that can only be found in the religious books. So, you even know some gods despite refuting the existence of God? What a brilliant contradiction. |
