Presidential candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has confirmed that the former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe was a hero of the African liberation struggle.


Speaking about the dead former Zimbabwean president on his official Twitter handle, the former president of Nigeria ed other leaders in the world to confirm that Robert Mugabe was a hero that lovednhis country and its people.

Atiku said that although no one is perfect, Mugabe loved his country and its people, and took practical and patriotic steps to improve their well being.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to the recent Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had previously reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians in South Africa, were set ablaze by South Africans.

A viral video sighted by Igbere TV on Monday also showed several shops being looted by the angry South African citizens in their large numbers.

President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, said the attacks began on Sunday morning in Jeppestown area of Johannesburg.

Mr Olubajo said in a statement on Monday that the mob “looted several shops that were around the vicinity suspected to be owned by foreign nationals.”

Reacting to the development in a key note address he presented Thursday at the ongoing International Peace Summit in Sao Tome and Principe, Jonathan urged African leaders to strive to protect the rights and businesses of fellow Africans within their domain.

The former President who is the Chairman of the the African wing of the newly inaugurated International Summit Council for Peace (IS), emphasized on the need for leaders to protect lives and property on the continent.

“To make meaningful progress, Africans must be encouraged to treat one another as brothers and sisters, in love and unity. Relations within and between nations should never be allowed to degenerate to a level where citizens will resort to self-help by visiting violence on fellow Africans and their legitimate business interests,” he said.

He further added that “Growth and development can only be cultivated and sustained when leaders ensure that the rights and freedoms of citizens as well as migrants are respected and protected.”

Barely a day after the South African embassy in Nigeria was shut down over threats of retaliatory violence, the country's Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor has acknowledged the "existence" of afrophobia (resentment of other Africans) amongst its citizens.

Pandor in an interview with newsmen at the continental economic conference in Cape Town, said they decided to temporarily close the embassy in Nigeria for security reasons after receiving threats of violence, Igbere TV reports.

It was reported that she disclosed that South African authorities are working to restore calm in areas affected by the violence.

“There is an Afrophobia we are sensing that exists, there is resentment and we need to address that,” Pandor said.

“There is a targeting of Africans from other parts of Africa, we can’t deny that. But, there is also criminality ... because a lot of this is accompanied by theft,” she said, describing the attacks as a complex phenomenon whose root causes were not easy to define.

This is coming after the Nigerian government boycotted the three-day World Economic Forum (WEF) event holding in Cape Town, South Africa.

Hollywood actor and comedian, Kevin Hart, suffered three spinal fractures in his Sunday road accident.

Igbere TV gathers that the fractures have been operated on but Hart remains heavily sedated to deal with the pain.

Doctors, however, expect him to make a full recovery.

Mr Hart’s friend, Jared Black, was behind the wheel when the accident occurred on Sunday at Mulholland Highway, Malibu Hills.

Black also suffered major back injuries in the crash.

Pop singer, Davido, has disclosed that he and American singer, Chris Brown, are working on a t album.

MTN Nigeria said on Wednesday it will shut all stores and service centres in the country until further notice after its facilities in three cities were attacked.

Leakers.ng reports that facilities were attacked in retaliation after days of riots in South Africa chiefly targeting foreign-owned, including Nigerian, businesses.

“The safety and security of our customers, staff and partners is our primary concern,” MTN Nigeria said in a statement.

“MTN condemns any acts of violence, prejudice and xenophobia.”

The latest wave of unrest in South Africa has raised fears of a recurrence of violence in 2015 aimed at foreigners and in which at least seven people were killed. Before that, some 60 people were killed in a wave of unrest around the country in 2008.

President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday he was urgently sending a special envoy to meet with President Cyril Ramaphosa to secure the “safety of (Nigerian citizens’) lives and property”.

Police have yet to pinpoint what triggered the violence, which began on Sunday when protesters armed with makeshift weapons roamed the streets of Pretoria’s business district, pelting shops with rocks and petrol bombs and running off with goods.

Nigeria is MTN’s biggest market, with 58 million s in 2018 and s for a third of the South African group’s core profit.

N2.1bn Fraud Case Against Fugitive Ex-Pension Boss, Maina Dropped, Name Disappears From Watch List

There are feasible probabilities that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has gave up on the hunt for the Chairman of the inoperative Pension Reform Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, indicted for #2.1bn pension biometric scam.

Leakers.ng gathered that EFCC is no longer interested in the case following the fact that the ex-director was promoted after his controversial reinstatement into the civil service without sitting for the mandatory promotion examination by President Muhammadu Buhari’s government in 2017 which makes him enjoy official protection.

Some sources revealed that the commission had abandoned the hunt for Maina, noting that “he is more or less a free man now.”


"Is anyone talking about Maina again? He is no longer a fugitive and the EFCC has abandoned the hunt for him. If you are in doubt, ask Ibrahim Magu (acting EFCC Chairman) for update on his case and hear what he would tell you”, a source also complemented.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said there was no update on the manhunt for the former director.

Maina fled the country in 2013 when EFCC declared him wanted for #2.1bn pension biometric scam, leaving his ambition to become the governor and rule of his home state, Borno state.

He fled to the United Arab Emirates where he hibernated and didn't communicate with anybody in the country for three years until he allegedly met the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in Dubai in 2016 and he was reportedly guaranteed of his safety in Nigeria.

Shortly after the meeting, his name was reportedly taken off the wanted list of the EFCC, his name was also taken off the watch list at the nation’s international airports and he had been visiting the country more frequently.

It was gathered that the former PRTT chairman was being protected from arrest and prosecution by top officials in the Presidency and the Ministry of Justice.

Our correspondent also learnt that the former director, who was also placed on the International Police wanted list, was always in the country rubbing shoulders with senior officials.

A source claimed that Maina was “a friend of the government, no enforcement agency would dare take him into custody.”

Malami had, in November 2017, itted before a Senate ad hoc probing Maina’s reinstatement into the civil service that he met with the former PRTT boss in Dubai.

Sequel to this, Maina resumed at the Ministry of Interior where he was promoted as Director, Human Resources Department, without sitting for the mandatory promotion examination.

Against the backdrop of the revelations, the President ordered the sacking of the director and the Senate also set up an ad-hoc committee to determine the circumstances that led to the return of Maina to the country and his reinstatement into the service despite being on the security watch list.

But the report of the committee headed by the then Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishments and Public Services, Senator Emmanuel Paulker (PDP, Bayelsa Central), was not released till the tenure of the eight Senate lapsed.

Maina in January 2019, secured a court order stopping the EFCC from declaring him wanted.

Justice Giwa Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court described the action of the anti-graft agency in declaring Maina wanted as unlawful, but the commission vowed to appeal against the order.

When asked if the commission had appealed the court order obtained by Maina against his arrest, the EFCC spokesman pleaded for time to find out from the commission’s director of legal department.


He later said he could not reach the director as calls to his phone rang out.

Checks, however, showed that Maina is still listed as a wanted person on the EFCC website.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, and other Nigerians are reacting to a trending old video of the current South Africa Deputy Minister of Police, Bongani Mkongi, subtly justifying the Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreign nationals residing in South Africa.

At a press conference which held in 2017, Mkongi said;

“How can a city in South Africa be 80% foreign Nationals? That is dangerous. South Africans have surrendered their own cities to foreign nationals. The nation should discuss that particular question. You wouldn't find South Africans in other countries dominating a city into 80%.

Because if we do not debate that, that necessarily means the whole South Africa could be 80% dominated by foreign Nationals and the future president of South Africa could be a foreign National.

We are surrendering our land and it is not Xenophobia to talk truth. We fought for this land from a white minority. We cannot surrender it to the foreign Nationals.” he said.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has asked President Buhari to ban the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), an umbrella association of herdsmen in the country.

The association also called on the president to “completely scrap” the suspended ‘Ruga’grazing scheme. CAN made the request at the Church leaders stakeholders’ summit, themed, ‘RUGA: The church’s response in the 21st century,’ which was held in Lagos on Saturday.

Samson Ayokunle, CAN president, was quoted as saying the association came up with the recommendations after setting up a committee to look into the Ruga grazing scheme and related issues. He accused MACBAN of ing some herdsmen fingered in various attacks across the country.

“Anything that smacks of mutual suspicion should be avoided in the interest of national unity,” Ayokunle was quoted as saying. He said among the group’s recommendation are: “The federal government should immediately disarm and prosecute the Fulani herdsmen terrorists that have been recorded as one of the deadliest terrorists groups in the world.

“The group of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association which openly ed the activities of the murderous Fulani herdsmen be identified and banned immediately. President Buhari should suspend his hip and patronage of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association until he leaves office to reduce tension.”

Ayokunle was also quoted as saying insecurity in the country had become an embarrassment such that even military officers are afraid of travelling without escorts.

He added: “Enough is enough about insecurity in the country. It is totally embarrassing and people are having sleepless nights over it. There is no free movement anymore. Even military officers can no longer travel without heavy military escort; it is as bad as that. It is happening on a daily basis, it is no longer propaganda, neither is it political opposition talks.

“Our relatives are constantly being kidnapped and we are being compelled to look for money to pay ransoms. There are no other persons we can call upon other than the government because that is why they are there.”

Former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Joe Abah, has criticised Lagos authorities over the interception of a truck on Friday carrying 123 men and 48 motorcycles.

According to the Lagos State Environment Sanitation and Special Offenses Taskforce, the men were coming from Jigawa State.

The truck was seized at Agege area of the state following a tip-off by of the public who raised security concern about the manner with which the occupants of the truck conducted themselves.

After the interception, the truck and its occupants were moved to the office of the taskforce in Oshodi for interrogation.

Dr Abah, in a tweet on Saturday, questioned the move, saying the government was playing politics with the interception.

“‘Illegal mass movement’? 123 people? What if they had come by air? How many people are on flights to Lagos every hour? Is it because they are poor? The things that damage our country the most are those things we initially laugh about or play politics with. #ThisIsWrong!” he said.

According to the chairman of Lagos State Taskforce, Yinka Egbeyemi, some of the men said they came to Lagos in search of greener pastures.

Egbeyemi said that the Lagos Police Command had directed that a fact-finding be constituted to profile the detained occupants of the truck, but he added that nothing incriminating was found on them apart from the motorcycles.

The US embassy in Nigeria has announced that its offices in Abuja and Lagos would be closed on Monday in honour of Labour Day celebrated in the US.

Labour Day is celebrated in the US on the first Monday of September.

The embassy said in a tweet that consular services would not be available on Monday.

“HOLIDAY CLOSURE: The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019 to commemorate #Labor Day. No consular services will be available on this date. #HappyLaborDay to all those celebrating,” the embassy tweeted.

A young man was spotted in a viral video being harassed by police officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad popularly known as SARS on the road for not submitting his phone to be searched.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at ringroad, Oredo Local Government, Edo state.

The young man whose identity is not yet known was on the road with his mother when the SARS operatives apprehended him and asked for his phone to be searched as he was suspected to be a "Yahoo Boy"(internet fraudster) which he refused to give them for searching.

The man was Harrased and embarrassed on the road, he was beaten and his cloth was torn. His mother wasn't left out in the harassment. She was pushed which made her fell down flat on her back.

The man was eventually taken away to an unknown destination.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has said no one should judge Igbos based on the fact that 77 igbo men engaged in criminal acts in the United State and were arrested by the FBI, Igbere TV reports.

If you insist that we cannot judge the Fulani race based on the genocidal and barbaric actions of the Fulani terrorists and the destructive narrative of the Fulani supremacists then you dare not judge the Igbo race based on the criminal behaviour of 80 Igbos in a foreign land.

That race, tribe and ethnic nationality is NOT the Igbo, the Yoruba, the Ijaw, the Tiv, the Berom, the Tarok, the Kanuri, the Igala, the Idoma, the Uruhobo, the Itsekiri, the Efik, the Ibibiyo, the Kalabari, the Nupe, the Gbagi, the Igbira, the Eggon, the Kataf, the Baju, the Shuwa Arab, the Jukun, the Anang or any of the other indigenous ethnic nationalities that make up our nation.

The tribe that I am referring to know who they are. They are not an indigenous Nigerian tribe but came from a foreign and distant land and settled here. They are those that the late Bola Ige once referred to as "the Tutsis of Nigeria".

That tribe have questions to answer and explanations to make for their consistently outrageous, barbaric and horrendous behaviour and their not-so-hidden ethnic and religious agenda. Who are they? Who the cap fits, let them wear it!

"This will not be the last time , we shall come again depending on our resources," Alhaji Bukar said.
