His comment is only but polital correctness.
Come to think of it, Okiro is an Igbo man by tribe. Is he saying okiro is not Igbo?
Igbos should beware people who sow seed of discord amongst them. They should avoid people who would declare a republic 24 hours after Biafra is declared.
Let us all learn to live in one nigeria. It is the only country we have and can call our own.

this is not a case of racism, xenophobia or control of private enterprise. Every country should defend its own first, put its people's first. No country is this world is 100% free market. The state has a role in the private sector, its not about controlling nationality of who is employed. In most countries, there are immigration laws that ensure that locals are considered for a job before a forienger, in the UK if a comapny wants to employ a non UK citizen, they have to prove that the UK citizens could not do the job, before a foreigner is employed,
In Nigeria, it is which foreigner can do the job first, before they think of nigerians, the case is not just about the indians but about our labour policies in our country and general preference over anything/anyone not nigerian!
Spot on.
I find the assumption that that nigerians are not as diligent as indians rather ludicrous. I have worked with people from all races and come to a conclusion: Ones attitude to work is a function of the individual. It is absolutely independent of race or breed.

read the news on yahoo. mind you guys, atiku's name was not mentioned. it reads http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070604/ap_on_go_co/congressman_probe
extracts
Jefferson is accused of soliciting bribes for himself and his family, and also for bribing a Nigerian official. The scheme was complicated and Jefferson set up a front company to hide the money, prosecutors said.
mind you atiku's name is not a nigerian official
The impact of the case has stretched across continents and even roiled presidential politics in Nigeria. According to court records, Jefferson told associates he needed cash to pay bribes to the country's vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
Abubakar denied the allegations, which figured prominently in that country's presidential elections in April. He ran for the presidency and finished third.
The indictment does not name Abubakar. But it describes Jefferson's dealings with an unnamed "Nigerian Official A" who was a high-ranking official in Nigeria's executive branch who had a spouse in Potomac, Md. One of Abubakar's wives lived in that Washington suburb.
note that atiku was not named. only Nigerian official A was named.
conclusion: atiku is not corrupt. FBI must have been bribed by proponents of 3rd term. third term is still alive. nigerians, watch out.

That is not disputable, with Osuji a whole Prof. carrying Ghana-must-go bags to distribute bribes. Shame on him and his people. He's really full of shit.
Wabara the senate president also descending so low.
Both men are unsurprisingly Igbos. Igbos are the most corrupt in Nigeria, that should be made clear because they are also the most capitalistic set of people in Nigeria. That is why they go around looking for money rituals. I think it is really God's will that they have not have a real chance to rule Nigeria their govt would be the worst. They still need more training in governance and I hope they will learn soon.

So what happens to other ethnic groups, my friend? Is nigeria composed of the Hausa/Fulani and the Yorubas only? Stop this yapping compatriot. Come on, it's time we outgrew this tribal politics.

In order for Nigerians in Nigeria to compete more effective for jobs, our standard of education in Nigeria must improve. Good point!
So, what about enticing Nigerians from abroad with job opportunities at home, instead of enticing the Indians? This used to be the case back in the days.
We must bring back those beautiful days before we trade or sell the pride of our country to foreigners.

The visa application process will continue to be made harder until the nigerian government improves our lot here.
Once our system is ok, there will be no reason for these countries to be apprehensive once a nigerian wants to travel abroad.
As things stand now, the impression is that every nigerian granted a visa is on the run.
And do you blame them? How many nigerians who travel out have the intention of coming back before their visas expire? Less than 10% my brother.

We have tried loud people before, let us try a quiet person. We have tried arrogant people, let us now try a humble man. We have tried military men, let us try a civilian.

Yar'Adua sworn in as president
Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, 55 years old masters degreee holder in analytical chemistry and immediate past Governor of Kebbi State, has been sworn in as Nigeria's new president at a colourful ceremony at the Eagle Square, Abuja. Yar'Adua?s inauguration marks the first time in Nigeria's history that one civilian leader has taken over from another. Opposition activists have promised to go ahead with demonstrations in Lagos despite a ban on protests. But with the pledge: "I, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and hold allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, That I will protect and defend the constitution," Yar'Adua, took his oath of office before Chief Justice Idris Kutigi. Earlier, Goodluck Jonathan, was sworn in as Vice-President. Nigeria's 36 new state governors also took their oaths of office around the country. Security for the ceremony in Abuja was tight as police prevented people without es from entering the arena. Outgoing President Olusegun Obasanjo was driven into Eagle Square for the ceremony in an open jeep, waving to spectators in the reviewing stands. Anglican Bishop Peter Akinola and the Abuja Chief Imam gave opening prayers before military bands and Nigerian soldiers in dress uniforms performed a slow march around the square. The ceremony was witnessed by more than 12 African heads of state and government

I used to be told that I should not be a Local champion when I was a Kid.
Being a Nobel Laureate does not mean anything than it is. Being called a man of God does not mean that you should be the President.
We should respect the view of Wole soyinka. But we should not be obsessed with his person.
Personally I would rather learn IGBO OR TIVI than learn one more word of any other language.
The Personality of OBJ I say is one that breeds a high level of discipline.
Those that know Obj personally know that killing Bola Ige is a waste of the bullet.
If you have experienced combat before and you read through the profile of OBJ you will see that it is very rare for Obj to kill IGE. Infact what i know is that OBJ had confidence in BOLA IGE and was never ready to let him go out of his istration.
Every one knew who IGE was he was a no nonsense man. HE NEVER ANSWER "RHETORICAL QUESTIONS"
People tried to kill Akunyili was it from Obasanjo?
People in Ghana that have run from effcc if they hear ribadu is dead they will Jubilate. Do you know how many attempts on Ribadu?
let us not decieve ourselves we have a good literature writer in Wole soyinka it is not a license to be a political antagonist.
A proffesor is supposed to be a man that work for the Good of the students that he teaches. He should be working to simplify learning and adding wisdom to wisdom.
I ask is there nothing that the literature that some have written can do to change Nigeria?
Aren't there many Nobel laureate that never went to school?
In fact you can know how to read and write but you may not be able to contribute LOCALLY to the development of your LOCAL PEOPLE.
You may be an international man but have nothing in your home.
The books you read cannot make you completely. The book (Ake) WS wrote had local content. Some rappers in the USA will do well to entertain and Enlighten better.
Let us treat our leaders with respect Talk is cheap even the most expensive ones can be said cheaply. If you think i am lying ask SOLOMON, THE RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD HE TALKED AND WROTE PROVERBS BUT WAS FOOLISH.
Spot on.
Very sensible response. I wonder why Wole did not assemble the so-called Laureate winners for revolt in 2003, or was there no rigging then?
Let's be practical and judge him based on his utterances and not on a Stockholm award for literature. We are talking politic here and not drama.

Nigeria's Okonjo-Iweala for World Bank?
Fri 18 May 2007, 5:36 GMT
[-] Text [+] By Lesley Wroughton
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, whose name has topped lists of non-Americans to head the World Bank, said she had not been approached about the job.
In a telephone interview with Reuters, Okonjo-Iweala said she was convinced the poverty-fighting institution would be able to overcome damage caused by a pay and promotion scandal that forced the resignation of Paul Wolfowitz on Thursday.
Asked if she would be interested in leading the bank, the former World Bank executive said: "No one has asked me, let me make that clear. But who wouldn't be interested?"
While Okonjo-Iweala's name has been tossed around Internet and other circles as a possible candidate to replace Wolfowitz, a non-American has never been nominated to head the bank.
The White House indicated on Thursday it was not about to change that tradition.
"What has happened has happened. It's time to move on," said Okonjo-Iweala, a distinguished visiting fellow at the Washington-based Brookings Institution, adding that developing countries ought to get a stronger voice in running the World Bank.
"It is an institution that is very worthy and I really believe in the institution. It needs a lot of healing."
Okonjo-Iweala has been praised for her fight against corruption and spearheading free-market reforms in her native Nigeria, one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
When she was suddenly reassigned by President Olusegun Obasanjo to foreign minister in 2006, a move that was never properly explained, Wolfowitz traveled to Nigeria where he praised her leadership and fight against corruption.
Anti-poverty activist and U2 singer Bono has also shared platforms with her and praised her work.
In the interview, Okonjo-Iweala said that as a former World Bank official who had also been in government, she knew the bank's worth.
"The World Bank still has a very strong role to play, not only for poor countries but also for middle-income countries, not only for Africa but also developing countries, so it's an institution that needs to be nurtured," she said.
Wolfowitz found an ally in Okonjo-Iweala in his fight to make anti-corruption and good governance more of a priority in the World Bank, eventually succeeding in ing a strategy that put it at the forefront of the bank's work in poor countries.
Later, as the controversy swirled around him, World Bank staff accused Wolfowitz of having "double standards" and "not practicing what he preaches."
But Okonjo-Iweala said his anti-corruption strategy could still be effective, even after his resignation.
"The anti-corruption initiative started before Mr. Wolfowitz, who gave it a strong push," she said. "I think it will be continued and should be continued."
For the story on Wolfowitz's resignation

dangote is bringing good things to nigeria. before you start spanking me, here is the source http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=78025. nigeria is definitely moving in the right direction. 10,000 new jobs by the new cement production plant is no joke. ask tony blair. and , these jobs are not for the rich. the masses will benefit.
President Olusegun Oba-sanjo yesterday in Oba-jana, Kogi State said what Nigeria needed to turn its economy around were forthright and foresighted businessmen investing in the manufacturing sector rather than those who solely engage in buying and selling.
Obasanjo while commissioning the $178 million Obajana Cement plant owned by the Dangote Group of Companies said the President of the group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has distinguished himself as one of the few manufacturers who have faith in the country and are ready to help transform its economy.
He said his istration’s for Dangote was informed by his commitment to the growth and development of the country rather than favouritism as it is being alleged in some quarters. He also challenged other entrepreneurs to emulate Dangote in order to be equally favoured.
"People used to say Dangote is being favoured by the government and they also want to be favoured but they don’t want to do what Dangote is doing. Let them do what Dangote is doing and see if they will not be favoured”, he said.
The President said he felt fulfilled, satisfied and overjoyed that the cement plant came on stream before he would leave office.
The President, who also commissioned some projects in Kogi State thereby causing about four-hour delay in the take-off of the ceremony, went down memory lane and said Nigeria was not only celebrating the new plant but what he called the four Fs-Forthrightness, Fore-sight, fortitude and fortune of Aliko Dangote whom he said told him the truth that actually gave room to the project. "We are celebrating forthrightness, Aliko told me the truth when I invited him on the problem of cement importation and I did not argue with him. I went back to the drawing board and it is now a success.
"Aliko Dangote took the challenge and worked on it because people like him can smell good business from a distance. The foresight in this project is monumental and we are also celebrating foresight and fortitude. he did not give up and now fortune is beckoning on him."
The President said the lesson from the Obajana dream was that, "Nothing can be achieved unless we drive ourselves to achieve success. All that should be put together must be put together. If after 50 years we can produce only 2.5 million metric tonnes of cement and just now the Obajana plant is producing much higher quantity within a short time, then we are moving forward". President Obasanjo also used the occassion to confirm that he has directed the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE) to give the Dangote Group the right of first refusal in the Onikologbo Cement Company in Benin Republic, where Nigeria is a major shareholder".
"I have directed the BPE to give Dangote the right of first reusal on the Onikologbo Cement Company privatisation, and he has also been given the permission to establish a 50000 mega watts power plant, for which he has deposited $30 million. He has also been asked to deposit another $20 million for the establishment of a refinery and another deposit of $10 million for the building of a fertiliser plant in the country. Nobody will do it for us. If after 50 years of our cement business in Nigeria we could not get it right and under four years Dangote has gotten it, we have to him," he said.
President Obasanjo also regretted that the cement industry in the country was also a casualty of the rot that was visited on the country by successive istrations in the country. He said only three out of the seven cement plants operating before he left office in 1979 were in operation when he assumed office in 1999.
Dangote, while welcoming guests to the plant had explained that with the coming on stream of the Obajana cement factory, Nigeria would save about $460 million from the importation of cement while the plant would create direct and indirect employment for well over 10,000 people.
He regretted that "despite huge investment by both government and the private sector into cement manufacturing in the past, we have failed to achieve our objective of becoming a major cement producing country and net exporter of cement. Not only did we fail to meet this objective, we were not able to produce enough to meet our local demand. and have to depend on imports to meet the bulk of our local demand consumption. representing a huge outflow of forex from our economy."
Between the year 2000 and 2006, according to Dangote, "local cement production was 16.3 mm tonnes and imports during the same period totaled 39.2 mm tonnes estimating that Nigeria paid out a total of $3 billion during the period just to fund the importation of the product.
The Dangote group President, who traced his humble beginning from Kano to Lagos said "since Nigeria has given so much to me and I stand here before you to vow that I will give back to Nigeria." He urged Nigerians to him in the ownership of the company when Obajana finally goes public in December this year.
"I am from Kano, I do business in the East, West and the Middle Belt. That means Nigeria is one indivisible entity. I have been accepted in all parts of the country where I have been and it is encouraging that Obajana is a Nigertian company owned by Nigerians and the work-force is made up particularly with Nigerians."
The plant, Dangote said was one of the lasting legacies of the Obasanjo istration and urged the incoming government of Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua who had to leave Kogi for Abuja enroute Cameroon by 2.30pm on official state assignment, to ensure that the reform programmes put in place by President Obasanjo is sustained to buoy up economic growth.
Dangote also said he expected that by 2010, Nigeria will become a net exporter of cement as the present factory has capacity to load 100 truck per day and when the plants in Ibeshe Ogun State and the Benue Cement Company factory are fully rehabilitatated, the Dangote Cement Group will be contributing over 18 million tonnes of cement.
While thanking the former Governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, for the given him during the conceptual years of the project, he said his group is mindful of the community, where it operates disclosng that Dangote has partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a part sponsor of the project to institute a $200,000 HIV/AIDS programme in the Obajana area of Kogi State and will on Tuesday this week sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dangote and Power Holding Company of Nigeria on a N700m electrity project for the extension of power supply to the plant which will automatically benefit the community .
"We have to respond to the community. It is a life changing project. We have put in place an action plan on environment, schools health boreholes micro-credit and vocational skills to benefit the community," he said.
In his vote of thanks, Chairman/Editor-in-Chief, THISDAY Newspaper Group, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, said "we have to celebrate President Olusegun Obasanjo's for creating the enabling environment and the reforms he put in place for economic growth."
Obaigbena said it was only in Nigeria that you can see out-going governors and governors-elect and out-going President and the President-elect sit together on one table. "We need to honour President Obasanjo with a befiiting retirement as heleaves office May 29 to retire to his farm at Otta," he said.
The project when fully completed is estimated to cost $1billion and is expected to be the largest cement plant in the world.
The project site is located in Obajana, an area in Kogi State with a quarry in Oyo village connected by an eight kilometre conveyor to the cement plant. The gas pipeline end that also supplies gas will run for 70 kilometers from the manifold at Ajaokuta Steel Company, along the Okene road with the section running from Lokoja to Obajana.
The commissioning was attended by the President-elect, Yar'Adua who left earlier for Cameroon, his deputy, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, governors of Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, Delta, Kaduna, Cross River, Gombe as well as the host governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris. Some governors-elect such as Dr. Andy Uba of Anambra and his Bayelsa counterpart, Timipire Sylva also attended. Many captains of industries and political leaders also graced the occasion.
