Hi guys

Arrived Edmonton, Alberta yesterday. It was majorly hassle-free the entire journey. Now in quarantine.

LAGOS AIRPORT

Checked in online 24 hours to my flight on the 1st of Jan. Apparently, economy class for KLM only allows one check-in luggage plus hand luggage and an accessory. Paid 42k for another check-in luggage. I had my 24 hours old covid test result with me, that seemed to be the most important thing. They didn’t check any other thing for me, not even ission letter. Like I was flowing through immigration check points showing just the covid lab test result, port and one negative covid declaration other form I filled that’s required by Netherlands for transit flyers. Took off for the 6 hour flight to Amsterdam. Apart from occasional turbulence, it was smooth.

SCHIPHOL AIRPORT

Landed in Amsterdam for a 6 hour layover. Here, after normal stop and brief search, they just asked for ission letter, port and boarding . Boarded for the 9 hour flight to Calgary.

CALGARY AIRPORT

Landed here and went through same immigration hassle. You fill a deceleration questionnaire on one touch screen machine to state purpose of visit and mention if you flying with animal agric products and all. I flew with stock fish, crayfish and all and I clicked YES to say I was flying with animal and plant products. The immigration officer asked what I was flying with, mentioned it to him and he said those ones are ok, that I should have clicked NO. He also asked for LOI, ArriveCAN receipt on my phone and ission letter. It’s better one declare and you are corrected and not declare and you are held down. Thanked him for the insight and was directed to another border officer to get my study permit. Took about 10 minutes to get the study permit after showing them just my ission letter and LOI. I proceeded to board for the 25 minutes flight to Edmonton.

EDMONTON AIRPORT

Just showed my port here and that was all. Got my luggage and was out of the airport. My check-in luggages and hand luggage were open or searched. They were the same way from Lagos to Edmonton. But my bag crossed over my arm was opened and searched in Amsterdam and Calgary.

Note:

Please ask question when in doubt. While walking through a transit airport and the airport in Canada, you can sometimes miss your way and ultimately miss your flight cos time is of the essence. They are friendly and you will be directed. Please to have your face mask on at all times, except when eating, you can be fined for negligence.

All through my journey, I only had to present LOI, ArriveCAN, port and ission letter, that’s all. I wasn’t even asked for proof of funds or enrollment letter. This will not be the case for everyone as diff airports have diff checks.

Just in-case you want to retrieve the funds in your blocked (FINTIBA), it’s very easy. I recently got my funds back in just over a week after I ed FINTIBA saying I was withdrawing my visa application. It’s not difficult like some claim.

I can share the process if anyone is interested. Bless

A friend of mine finished her BSc in Ukraine and she had a valid resident permit but she still needed to get a student visa to study in even while still in Ukraine.

Has anyone close to you done this same thing..........because from the embassy website they said a residence permit from a schengen zone does not entitle one to enter and begin studies in .. That one still needs to apply for a National Visa(student visa)

For the sake of clarity create a checklist of all the documents you will submit
Concerning the travel history if you have ever been abroad before you should provide the necessary clear documents(copies of visas, tickets etc) if not state that you have not travelled outside Nigeria before and as such you have no travel history except within Nigeria

Your purpose of visit needs to be clear, precise and full of valid points on why you want to study the course, Why you choose Canada and the institution, how it connects to your past qualifications and your future plans (i.e, that is what you plan to do with the knowledge you would acquire)
Provide all the necessary bank statements and asset documents to prove you have enough funds for study, you can pay your first year or semester tuition to further assert you financial capability (add a financial table, clearly breaking down your proposed study expenses and funds available)

From the little i know, there seems to be a little problem with your academic files, probably you misplaced one or two of them, which brought about the “academic record , qualification from previous study, missing marksheet and level of establishment" reason. Make sure your transcripts, university certificate, waec result and every necessary academic documents is added

Did you add your IELTS result via the NSE program, if yes and you reached the cutoff, reiterate that your language abilities are excellent and you have had English as your basic educational language( a waiver letter from your university would help)

All my reservations via airbnb are being declined by the hosts cos they don’t want a international traveler that will quarantine in their shared living space.

I’m flying with KLM. Called their airport office to confirm and was told no Covid test required

Yeah...opening an at the airport would be the best or seems to be the norm but just in case one doesn’t get that option due to skeletal services from covid

I guess someone mentioned it here that cuz of this Covid and quarantine that one should try as much as possible to open your bank at the airport once you land in Canada I guess this is the reason so one can have access to do online transfers etc.

Please did anyone who already travelled or planing to travel open a Canadian from here in Nigeria. From the rules of quarantine, I can see one is supposed to remain indoors for the entire 14 days, unless there is a medical emergency. So how does someone get food and groceries for the duration of quarantine? Apparently, it is advised one make orders with online transfers or make payments with cards instead of leaving your accommodation to a store to spend cash. That can attract a fine. I got cash with me but I just wanna have options.

Will appreciate it especially if folks under quarantine tell of their experience

I would personally go for a diploma cos it’s has more additional units compared to a certificate programme, so it’s usually richer in content. That’s why some diploma courses are longer in duration.

That said, they are both good options.

Im traveling in January for winter semester and I have already completed my fall semester from here in Nigeria.

1. No, you don’t need to have paid your full tuition.

2. Just hold the tuition deposit receipt. It shows you have confirmed your place at the school.

3. I haven’t paid the tuition of winter semester but I was still given my enrollment letter. You just have to your courses for the semester and you will get your enrollment letter.

4. Don’t take risks, just have an enrollment letter at hand no matter the airline you flying with. I have seen it is also asked for at immigration in Canada.

1). Must you pay your full tuition before travelling?

2). Are they asking tuition receipt from pple who have started schooling from Nigeria or is it applicable to everyone even though u are starting school in january? I only paid tuition deposit and my school has not said anything about me paying my full tuition. I even mailed them about it but no response

3) for pple who are to resume in jan and haven't paid their tuition, in other words, haven't gotten their enrollment letter will it be a problem?

4). Has anyone who used another airline to get to Canada bn asked for the enrollment letter? Cos it seems it's only pple using Ethiopian airline that has shared this experience.

If you pay for the two way courier, VFS will send your port back via the same courier you already paid for. They won’t insist you pay the 11,310 fee.

After pressing 1...there is a long speech that you have to listen to. At the end, press 8. It will connect you to the customer care representative. It did work for me.

You can call between 9am and 3pm.

No it’s not. Email the ission office of your school informing them you have gotten your study permit. Also inform them of your planned date of arrival. Your school will then send you any ing document to ease your age through the port of entry (airport). Verification of enrollment letter will be part of the ing documents.

No need to panic. It’s normal with the whole covid drama now.

Yes it will be honored. You don’t need to pay the 11,310 fee. Just please follow up with calls. Not emails, it will be ignored.

For port return hopefuls, I just got off the line with VFS. The customer service representative said the delay is caused by the number of courier requests they have gotten these past few weeks. I was like...why then charge that exorbitant fee if you can't deliver. As usual, apologies followed. She said requests from the last few weeks are all being prepped for dispatch next week. I took that with a pinch of salt cos I have heard that before...I guess we have to be patient. It will be great if more folks get to call them today to pile the pressure, of course if your call can get through the traffic.
