It amazes me when people talk like this. You have to save to be able to buy any asset.

There is no issue here. He is not a US citizen, so he is not entitled to the visa free status.

That is not correct. it is still visa free, you just need to apply for an ETIAS, which is valid for as long as your port is valid or 3 years, which ever comes first.

But there was Aminu Mohammed up there as one of the arrested drug couriers. I'm wondering why you only saw the igbo man. Please write intelligently next time.

Personally, i am better off than i was in Nigeria. No comparison at all. I can only speak of my own situation and situations of my personal friends. I don't even make money at all. My friend that was in the same office with me in Nigeria, who was also paid the same thing i was pain in Nigeria, now works as a manager in Amazon and makes about 20k usd a month. I think, amongst my group of friends, i make the least.

You are partially right. I say partially because, yes the standards of living are very different, the value of the currency are also very different. But if i use my self as an example, after paying my rent and other bills, I can still save about 55% to 60% of my monthly net income. Meaning, in a year I can save an equivalent of about 40m. If I use your own example, it means I can almost build that 25m house twice in about a year in Nigeria, and conveniently still have a mortgage here. So when you say, I may not be living as well as those in Nigeria, I beg to differ. Cos in addition to all that, in canada roads are good, light and water is available, security is guaranteed to an extent. You can't say that about Nigeria.

It is impossible to save that amaount on just your normal pay. I put that target cos I hard so much overtime a week. I worked about 90 to 100 hours a week. But I wont advise that, it a lot of work and stress.

Before tax, at the moment I make $5687cad every 2 weeks on this job. That's about $11,374 a month. Somebody on this thread once said I was lying when I told him lecturers here can make up to 11k a month. He was quoting the average Canadian pay to me, and I told him, i am not one of the average. My other lecturing job pays me about $3600 monthly, because I teach there only 10 hours a week.

I never said i saved that. I said my target was to save 120k in 2 years. i couldn't make that target, but having that target helped me save.

Its fine. I always made sure i back up anything i said here with receipts. So attached is my pay stubs from the beginning of this year from my main job. And for those trying to reverse search the image, don't bother, you wont get any hit. I'm trying to see if i can fill my weekends with some classes. Next semester my classes end by 3 pm everyday and only run till thursday. So i think i may be able to find another school to teach in. But guys, the taxes are crazy. I pay almost 4k a month in taxes from just this job. Felixamos: 5 Likes |

Just be patient, it happened to most of us. I left a job that was not to bad and came here in 2017, did warehouse jobs and security initially. It was hard, no doubt, and sometimes you wanna give up, but I was always ed my family, and giving them have another option in another country apart from Nigeria is what I wanted. Fast forward today, i have a son, he is a Canadian citizen, and and my wife are Canadian citizens, and i am doing pretty well now financially. So just be patient and be strong willed.

There has been a lot of arguments in this thread about the positives of travelling abroad. I don't know about everyone's situation, but for my own situation, i used to make about 4.8m in Nigeria a year (not that bad), but i make about that in a month here before taxes. So i feel i am doing ok. It was not that way for me from the beginning. I worked in a warehouse, worked as a security for some years, then i took out a couple of years to get my Masters degree and things changed after that. My advice, try and go to school here. I made that mistake initially, i didn't really consider schooling. I was making money as a security guard, but i was working a lot of hours. It is not bad for a start, but thanks to my wife, she made me to look at the big picture and made me realize what i can achieve outside being a security guard. Honestly, a good woman is everything, but you gotta be good to her too. 21 Likes 2 Shares |

Hey guys, I just got to know that Canada now allows students to work as many hours as they want. No more just 20 hours. That's really good news for prospective students.

Actually, he didnt. 25% of votes cast is 145,316. Tinubu scored just below that.

I really wished Obi could have won this election. It doesn't seem likely the way it looks, but, you never know. I actually thought Nigerians were tired of suffering, but it seems they are not. If Tinubu wins, i truly wish he succeeds and makes Nigeria better. I am dual citizen of Nigeria and Canada so it does not really affect me, but i still have family back home. But, Obi still changed the political status quo, were youths now have a voice. He hope he builds on this and he will be an unstoppable force.

Seeing this news is so heart breaking. Myself and my family just returned from burying my father in law. We travelled from Canada to Amsterdam to dusseldorf to Istanbul to lagos to owerri back to lagos, to Amsterdam, again to Frankfurt to Canada, and no single flight issue. I am so grateful to God and I pray for families of all those who lost their lives. It's really sad cos we are no better than all those who died.

I don't any political party, but don't be selective with information to further a particular narrative. In addition to the names you mentioned there is also the following names that were connected to various drug arrests, Olaleye Adeola, Oke Abosede Ronke, Taofeek Yusuf, Umar Hassan, Alfred Vratombo, Rabilu Sa'ad Abubakar, Muhammed Ahmed, Yusuf Ayinde. But you purposely mentioned only those of eastern extraction. I know its all politics, but if you want to relay an information, relay the full correct information.

How do you guys come up with all these nonsense. Please, not everyone living abroad, lives on credit. I don't even own a credit card anymore. Only loan i have is my student loan and i have only $5850 left. And i have a good job. I am coming back to Naija to bury my father in law, and i am spending almost 8k on flights and much more on the burial. I didn't take a single loan, or use credit or borrow from anyone. And i still have almost 4 times that in savings.

This is a very wrong statement. My dad has never been able to buy a new car all his life. I can buy one now if i want, i don't leave above my means, also i have no credit card bills. Only loan i am paying off is my student loans and i have $5850 left, which i can pay off now if i want. Its not any fault of his, its just the hand he was dealt in Nigeria.

But i don't need those things my dad had. I can buy it myself because i am paid well, that's the point. And i teach Cybersecurity. But, not withstanding. I want to work here till i am 40 and spend more time in Nigeria. I was not suffering when i left Nigeria, i used to work with Shell. But i left because of much more than money. Right now, i am a Canadian Citizen, my baby is a Canadian citizen and my wife would become a citizen by the end of this year. Canada is boring, no doubt. But you can come here, grow your finances, get better education and go back home if you want.

Let me explain better. The college i work for, my starting hourly rate was $60 an hour ( Class hours). Our contract was reviewed a couple of months ago and the pay was reduced to $41/hour but we have no more than 20 class hours a week and 17.5 hours. That means i teach for only 20 hours and get paid for 37.5 hours a week. Marking students scripts doesn't take me time at all. The second college i work for is a private college so the pay is less. I get paid $35/hr, for 10 teaching hours. I also have 15 hours of time. So i teach for only 10 hours but get paid for 25 hours. All my courses are online for now, so i don't leave my house. i just got an offer from another public college to teach for only 5 hours a week at $80 an hour. So There may be an average pay, it doesn't mean everyone gets paid the average.

I am a Nigerian based In Canada. I dont think Nigeria is nearing collapse. I just feel people are just tired of putting in the same amount of work and not getting anything in return. My dad is a professor in Nigeria and has been in the university for 35 years. His monthly salary is about 500k naira a month. I am a instructor at a college in Canada, ed the college January this year. I make an equivalent of almost $8k a month after taxes. This is the problem with Nigeria. Once I get my PhD, I will be earning close to $15k a month. And I am 36 years, my dad is almost 70 years. This is the reason for Japa.
