Thank God Almighty no human casualties reported.
Now,I only hope that the proprietor of the property(if private)has some adequate insurance.

Professor Sachs - how much were you paid?

You seriously do not expect the people of Nigeria to believe that a tenured professor of economics (Harvard, Columbia) would be so ignorant of what is going on in the world. You seriously do not expect people to believe that you ventured an opinion on a subject you knew little about.

He dosn´t need to do any research on the economics of fuel subsidy in Nigeria. He could have just dialled the telephone extension number of his colleague,Prof.Xavier Sala-i-Martin, in the same college, who has done a great espose on the subject matter.I am beginning to see a trend of behaviour amongst all these IMF/World Bank attachees.

Heh.

That I can agree on. I wasn't planning on wasting any more time 'splaining to you anyways. I guess I just need to learn to ignore you subjects like this. Note to self: On things related to economics, pay as much attention to KoboJ as you pay to Fstranger in general.

Should I assume that you are pretending not to understand where @Kobo is coming from, concerning the figures that NBS keep churning out viz a viz the realities on ground?

Beaf!:

Students with B.Sc ing and B.Sc (Ed) ing are both trained to be ants. The difference is while both are studying ing, the latter also took some modules on how to teach ing in a classroom. Notice the (Ed) which is education.

Summary: Both are ants but the dude with (Ed) have a little edge because if ing job is not available he can simply apply for a teaching job grin

@ OP
Take the quoted above and run.

Gaffes once in a while are ok,reason why we are humans. And it makes us better humans to accept them and immediately either retract them or apologise outrightly.

It becomes worrisome though, when they take a pattern and happen every now and then,as is the case of this istration in the ways they are handling almost every issue in our national polity.

Now they are taking it up a notch by depending on hear say.

And that, my friends, is scary.

Beaffy is working over-time tonight.

If Beaf likes, let him work from now till eternity, there are some gaffes that you cannot spin your way out of.

This Hyundai Heavy Industries´ story is one of such.

Whoever attempts to spin this needs the gift of humility to carry on with his or her life.

The Presidency went low on this.Personally I have accepted that fact and moved on.

@ Okada_man,I appreciate your clear mindedness and patriotism.

@ Payless,

Am not seeing enough provisions for pillars in your pictures.

I see the house big enough to require several pillars to be able to hold the roofing work especially if you are considering the kind of roofing that @ Am Alone is using.

Or is the new builder going to improvise for them in a redesigned form?.

]I dove my hat for you oooo, lol. Do you know i have never heard of anywhere a decking was done for 600k before but seeing the above i believe its possible only if you know and understand the whole process,no bricklayer and carpenter can drain you, My 2 hands are up for you. If i may ask,is it the same laborers that started it will finish this job cos you must have cut down all their corny ways of embezzling the owner.[/color]

Oga Calculusx, have you not heard the saying that¨the fear of german floor and decking expense quotations by dodgy professional builders have made many potential home owners into perpetual tenants?.

How I didn´t fall a victim of that has been one of the many miracles in my life.Today,I would have still been dreaming of my castle in the air while living in another man´s.

@ All that has contributed to this thread so far ,especially the original author spyder880 and the one and only strong lone child,I say a big well done and more power to your able elbows.

@ am alone,
I referred this thread to a builder and he commended your eyes for details and also made an interesting comment that some  projects like yours are done with a plan of converting the building into a duplex or multi-purpose guesthouse in the future, because it will have a lot of spaces to manouver and erect things like lift or stairs.
It sounded like a good idea to me and I want to ask you if that is part of your plans because a friend of mine seeking advice from me is interested in doing something like that,ie build a cute bungalow where he will call home for a very long time with his current resources and converting it into something bigger as resources flow in and family sets in or when the community opens up opportunities for tourism or something.

Cheers and peace to all.

A thread opened solely  to promote an already debunked myth/lies.
Wonders shall never end.
I wont be surprised if some of the posters challenging the outspoken honesty of the woman in question are already ing on the lies of Nigeria being the giant of Africa to thier offsprings. And that my friends  is very dangerous, because it will blow in your respective faces.Your kids will not remain under 13s.Sooner or later they will be opportuned to leave their gated enclaves and see things on ground elsewhere for themselves.By then,I hope you will have the sincere courage to ask them their opinion about your so called moniker.

@Elsafema My friend, dont despair at all! YOU DONT KNOW YOUR LEVEL AT ALL but l will share "your level" with you now.

First , let me state that all the people building this 10M naira houses did not "win jackpot" grin Most labored hard and sweated hard!

Again, let me add that "Savings is not money you HAVE LEFT, after ALL expenses are met"! SAVINGS IS THE FIRST MONEY YOU PUT ASIDE BEFORE ANY EXPENSE IS SETTLED"! (I read that somewhere, am not exactly sure now, maybe What Rich  people Teach their kids that the poor dont)

Having said the above, l know peeps with wife and at least two kids, who live on a salary of 40K/month! Some "Teachers" still do! shocked
Their standard of living might be "comparably low" but at least, they cut their coat according to their cloth.

Now, imagine if you could "cut down" on ALL non-essential expenses and live like your salary was actually 40K/Month?
That means you will be having a savings of 40K/month!; almost half a million/year!
NOT EASY, REQUIRES EXTREME DISCIPLINE, might even imply postponing having more than one or two children (though income may/do rise as we progress in life sha)

THIS IS "YOUR LEVEL": Someone with half-a-million naira in savings within one year! How does that sound? Do you think you wont be able to these "Landlords in less than 3-5years? YES, you would.

Again, you might just put the first 500K in a savings (healthy bank pls) that yields 15%/annum and take it out to buy land after the second year! You can even arrange to pay for the land in "installments" - say 40K monthly! Land can still be bought for 500K at Ikorodu, in Lagos  wink

Now, Any form of Owambe (Naming, Burial, Age-grade), Aso-ebi, Beer-Parlor, Isi-Ewuu and "Aaristo activities", e.t.c must be off-limits for you grin grin
And avoid churches were the Pastor will love-vendor you of your money in the name of some "miracle jackpot" deliverance service! You will only end up loosing the little you have (,,,,,,,,,,and it shall be taken from those who do not have (the foolish ones), and given to those who have (the smart ones) grin shocked )

And you have to keep repeating and telling yurself that you will build a house, sleep it, dream it and live it. Remain focused.
Pray to God also, for "inner, spiritual strength" so that "unexpected expenses" will not your address grin
Its not a question of "if", it is a question of "when" you will come here and tell us about price of Cement, nails and Iron bender grin

I wish you luck and God's grace

Oga Lastpage open a church or a mosque and I will .Lol.

The story above is my story and it dosn´t get any better.

46. Festus Iyayi (From wikipedia: "He left the shores of Nigeria to pursue his higher education, obtaining a M.Sc in Industrial Economics from the Kiev Institute of Economics, in the former USSR and then his Ph.D from the University of Bradford, England. In 1980, he went back to Benin and became a lecturer in the Department of Business istration at the University of Benin. As a member of staff of the University, he became interested in radical social issues, and a few years after his employment, he became the president of the local branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), a radical union known for its upfront style on academic and social welfare. He rose to the position of president of the national organization in 1986, but in 1988, the union was briefly banned and Iyayi was detained, in that same year he won the Commonwealth Prize for Literature for his book Heroes."wink

I haven't read his work. I'll need to read up on him.

I will recommend you read ´´Violence´´ and ´´Heroes´´.

Though a professor of business istration and an astute business consultant, you will be amazed by his literary ingenuity.

An ideal realist. He just writes about his surrounding environment with some literary flair of a professional.

He is kind of relaxed now in his activism since the exit of the military dictatorship in Nigeria.(He was actually a thong in thier flesh back in the days). But I guess he must be disappointed by the crop of political leaders of the democracy that was ushered in.

Now he has his current State Governor as a consolation prize for his struggles.

What are are all these things about ¨intelligence/brain¨,¨makes me laugh/sense of humor¨ and all what not.
What happens to  honesty and humility(2 non physical qualities every single woman should pray to have in her man to guarantee a lasting relationship).
Intelligent enough to play tricks on your asses and humorous enough to make you laugh and hence forget about their weaknesses.Lol
Wake up young ladies and look for what you need and not what you want.
Peace and good luck in your search.

Nice one @Yinka85.

One of these dream girls should put up a similar thread, this time directed to men and lets see how many of them that will mention the  intelligent and humorous woman over a virtuous one.
For me and my household,it is the virtuous woman all the way.Lol

Benstino:

Nairaland ladies are crazy. All these talks about intelligence is boring. An intelligence guy can still be a criminal,he can be harsh on his lady,he can be a sex maniac. Now concerning sense of humour,a guy with a high sense of humour can be a pauper,he can be a gay et cetra. Now ask urself,do u want an intelligent guy who will be eager to use his lady 4 a money ritual?Do u want a guy with a high sense of humour who will only be interested in the constant ripping apart of your lingeries, defiling you only to abandon you when you conceives.I'm a guy but I think that one of the major thing which matters is being God-fearing. that the fear of God is the beginning of all wisdom.Make your choice wisely.

@Benstino,
This is not a christian thread we are talking in general.Mind you not all the respondents  believe in God the same way that you do.
