Lightning strikes 9 students playing football in Anambra, kills 3



Lightning has killed three Senior Secondary School (SS3) students in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra.

The incident happened on Saturday.

An eye witness told our correspondent that the lightning struck nine male students who were playing football with their peers on the school pitch barefooted.

“The students were practicing on the football pitch with their coach preparatory to a football tournament.

“The coach had ended the training session before rain started, but some of the students stayed behind to continue playing football.

“Lightning, accompanied by claps of thunderstorm suddenly enveloped the area and the boys were struck in the process.

“A teacher heard the students screaming and running. He ran to the field and saw at least nine students trembling and jerking on the turf.

“That was when he raised the alarm and people gathered to help. The boys were immediately rushed to the school clinic, from where they were taken to hospital in Awka.

“Six of the nine boys were resuscitated and are currently receiving treatment, but three did not survive. Their parents have been ed,’’ the witness told NAN.

A resident, Mrs Hope Egwu, told our correspondent that news of the accident went round on Sunday and everyone had been held spellbound.


At the hospital in Awka, parents and sympathisers trooped into the ward where the survivors were receiving treatment.

A doctor, who requested anonymity, told our correspondent that three out of the nine boys were brought into the hospital dead, but six others were revived.

“As of now, parents of two of the dead boys have taken the corpses away, while one is still in the mortuary.

“It is sad that they were playing on the field barefooted. If they had boots on, the impact of the lightning would probably have been minimised,’’ he said.


When ed, police spokesman in Anambra, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident had not been reported to the police.

Speaking on the incident, Prof. Chukwudi Okani, Consultant Pathologist at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, said it was a natural disaster and not spiritual.

Okani said lightning could kill by electrocution through direct strike, side splash or ground current strike.

He advised that people should install thunder arrestors in their buildings to stave off electrical current in the event of lightning.

Chief Okey Ezibe was seen refusing to accept handshake from the ex governor at a public function.

Is Prof Soludo Becoming A Tyrant?



There has been so many brutal incidents that have happened in the istration of governor professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo since his assumption of office on March 17, 2022 that the governor has refused to condemn.

These brutal incidents were perpetrated by his Aides and political appointees but the governor's silence and refusal to investigate, suspend and sanction the Aides and appointees involved in those acts shows they have his to carry out such brazen impunity.

1. On June this year during the teachers recruitment exercise by the Soludo’s istration, there were inhuman treatments and verbal abuse of job seekers by the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma Udeh. There was a stampede at the venue of the recruitment due to improper planning, but rather than take responsibility for poor planning, the Commissioner transferred her failures to the applicants

Sadly, Prof Soludo backed her action and refused to sanction her.

2. On July 2022, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje was manhandled and physically beaten by the Anambra state task force while demolishing his church at Onitsha.

The video footage of Prophet Odumeje attracted condemnation online. Prof Soludo in his official Facebook handle condemned the assault but hours later, the post was deleted and pulled down from Facebook. It was gathered that the governor was unhappy that one of his aides could condemn the act with seeking clearance from him.

His istration backed the assault and physical beaten of Odumeje.

3. On September 2023, one Peter Uduekwelu from Agulu was killed by the Anambra state revenue collectors. The state govt has not publicly condemned the act nor arrested the culprits for prosecution. It took a daily protest of Agulu community for police to order for investigation.

4. Yesterday, there was a brutal attack with matchet on the driver of GUO motors. The attack was supervised by Hon Ossy Onuko, the ACTDA boss.

While the public was condemning the attack, the office of the governor issued a press statement backing the brutality and claiming that the GUO driver was reckless while overtaking the ACTDA boss on a high way.

This is a sign of tyranny. Prof Soludo should refrain from these excesses and restrain his boys to the tenets of democracy where human is treated with dignity.

The Board of Directors of Unilever Nigeria Plc has announced the resignation of His Royal Majesty, Nnaemeka A. Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, as a non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Board.


The resignation according to the company’s notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) will take effect from 31st December 2023.

The statement signed by Mrs Afolasade Olowe, Senior Counsel, and Company Secretary reads:

President Tinubu Gives Appointment To Former Anambra Commissioner.


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Chioma Ejikeme as the executive secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) for another four-year term in office.
Dr Ejikeme’s reappointment took effect from Tuesday, October 10, 2023, according to a tweet on the verified X of the pension agency on Thursday.
Recall that Ejikeme had handed over the management of PTAD to the director, civil service pension department of the Directorate, Mr. Sulayman Shelleng, in September, at the expiration of her first term in office. She was first appointed into the position by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Born On the 31st Of August 1958, Dr Chioma Ejikeme started her Primary School education at the All Saints School, Enugu in 1964. She attended Queens School, Enugu from 1971-1975 for her Secondary Education. In 1976, Dr Ejikeme was itted into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where she obtained a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MB.BS) degree in 1982. She holds a Masters in Public istration (MPA) degree from the University of Lagos 2002.
Over her 36-year career, Dr Ejikeme has been a Medical Practitioner an and an Entrepreneur. Her career started as a House Officer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba in 1983. She served the mandatory National Youth Service with the Ministry of Defence (Nigerian Airforce Medical Services Onikan Lagos) and was retained after NYSC where she rose from Senior Medical Officer II to Principal Medical Officer II (GL 15) until the year 2004.
As a Medical officer in the Nigerian Airforce Medical Services for close to 20years, she was part of a team that, coordinated, improved and facilitated Health care delivery services within the Nigerian Airforce Medical space.
In 1997,Dr Ejikeme took a leave of Absence from the Ministry of Defence to take up appointment as Commissioner for Health in Anambra State. Dr Ejikeme was part of the team that handed over to the current Political dispensation in 1999.

Some of her achievements as Commissioner for Health Anambra State include the establishment of a Central Drug Revolving Fund for the State Ministry of Health, the establishment of a Traditional Medicine Board in the State which was the first to be established in the history of Anambra State. She also re-organized the existing revenue collection procedure in the State to ensure an effective and affordable health care delivery system. She embarked on the infrastructural rehabilitation of State-owned hospitals with refurbishment of wards, provision of bore holes etc. She made sure a state-of-the-art modern Dental Clinic with modern Dental Chairs and Dental X-ray equipment was provided at the General Hospital Onitsha and rehabilitated Primary Health Centers across Anambra State with the construction of a brand-new Primary Health Center in Nkpor Uno, Idemili Local Government Area. 
Dr Ejikeme while Commissioner for Health was also a Two-Term Chairman of the Anambra State Tenders Board during her tenure.
After her tenure as Commissioner for Heath Dr Ejikeme returned to the Ministry of Defence in June of 1999 from where she voluntarily retired from the Civil Service in 2004.
Since retirement, she has availed herself of update courses, attending courses at the then Lagos Business School (LBS) in Manufacturing Management, ing for Non-ants and the Stanford Seed Transformation Programme for West Africa in Ghana amongst many other update courses.
She is a Life Member of the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of the Pan Atlantic University (Former Lagos Business School), A Member of the National Association of Small-Scale Industrialists (NASSI) Lagos Chapter, Member Lagos State Chamber Of Commerce & Industry and Member Stanford Seed Transformation Network West Africa.
She is also a Member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a co-opted member of the Anambra State 2019 Presidential Campaign Team.

Body Of the Late Supreme Court Justice Centus Chima Nweze Arrives Enugu For valedictory Court session

The body of the late Centus Nweze, a former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has arrived in Enugu for a valedictory court session in his honour. Nweze died in July,2023.

Nweze, who was born on 25th September, 1958 was appointed as a justice of the Supreme Court on the 29th of October, 2014. He served in the apex court for almost a decade, until his death.

During his time on the bench, Nweze was known for his erudite judgments and contributions to the development of jurisprudence in Nigeria. He was also a prominent advocate for the promotion of human rights and access to justice.

The valedictory court session is seen as an opportunity to honour the late justice for his contributions to the legal profession and the justice system in Nigeria.

War In Anambra as Soludo's Aide Adichie, Hits Hard on Obiora Okonkwo, United Nigeria Airline Boss


I grew up knowing Obiora Okonkwo as a man of every election in Anambra state. He has come to be addressed as a serial contender and a serial election sore loser, contesting everything that is contestable and losing woefully all the time has been his hallmark, losing even to the weakest Co-contestants such as Valentine Ozigbo in the last PDP primary election before jumping into ZLP in the last election thereby finishing 36 out of 36.



Wearing the toga of a serial election contender and a sore loser, and becoming an emergent TV analyst, Obiora Okonkwo hails from Ogidi, an election season philanthropist. It is shameful that having contested a series of senatorial and gubernatorial elections and spent a huge amount of money, he has not deemed it fit to construct a road that leads to his house or his father’s house nor even have a toilet built-in his name in his community.



Obiora Okonkwo is considered miserable in Anambra politics and has never achieved anything politically because of his inconsistencies and lack of vision. He has no followers to deliver him and has no clout to deliver anyone politically, even in his ward where he has continued to fail woefully. He should be reminded that his 2025 gubernatorial ambition which he has kick-started with his “Media Aide” -Uloka leading a very weak and cheap fake news on state institutions is a pipe dream.



For now, Ndi Anambra deserves their peace and the normalcy that Soludo’s istration has restored to all parts of the state, including the sanity he has brought on our roads and markers, free and qualitative education in all the public schools, free antenatal and free delivery in all the government hospitals, the over 350 km of roads currently ongoing across the state, security of life and property, prudence and open and e-governance, and among others. Ndi Anambra doesn't deserve doesn't deserve this madness from Obiora Okonkwo’s pipe dream ambition, he should totally be ignored by concerned citizens.

Encomiums have continued to come in torrents upon High Chief Dr Christopher Ndubuisi(Ikenga Umuawulu)the Founder of the High Chief Dr Christopher Ndubuisi Foundation & Chairman/CEO Pinnatech Group, for his recent philanthropic efforts in training and empowering over 100 youth and students in Obizi, Anambra State. The training, which took place on September 27, 2023, at Pinnatech Suites Awka, focused on Entrepreneurship/Vocational training and ICT Programs. It was organized in collaboration with the National Space Research & Development Agency and Centerview Business Concept Limited.

The participants, who were selected from different towns in Obizi, were taught the basics of computers, ICT technology, and internet usage. Miss Chinwe Okoli, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Innovation and Business Incubation, highlighted the various advantages of ICT skills and the opportunities digital economy presents. She encouraged the participants to make good use of the laptops they received, emphasizing the opportunity to contribute positively to society and become the active Anambra Digital Tribe. Miss Okoli commended High Chief Dr Christopher Ndubuisi for this unique empowerment and capacity building program stating that this is in line with Mr Governor's vision of making Anambra the digital and creative capital of Nigeria.

He urged the participants to apply the skills they acquired during the training to establish themselves and become self-reliant. The over 3000 drivers in the employ of Peace Mass Transit (PMT) have been receiving refresher training on safe driving at the Emene, Enugu, headquarters of the company.


The training, which has been ongoing since the onset of "Ember Months," takes the drivers through conventional safety drills and basic customer relations expectations.

PMT safety and customer service departments regularly oversee these rehearsals, which are designed to keep drivers properly grounded in matters of safety and customer handling.


The general manager of Peace mass transit, Ifeanyi Enete, has been impressing it on the drivers to make use of the opportunity of the refresher to update themselves with the rudiments of defensive and safe driving.

"Sometimes, doing the same thing regularly can make you take things for granted," he explained. "This exercise is meant to test them afresh and remind them of their obligations to our engers and other road s, particularly during this busy period when there are more vehicles on the highway, many driven by amateurs."

"We keep doing this regularly because that is the only way to go," Enete pledged.

The chairman of Nigeria’s leading transport company, Peace Mass Transit, Dr. Sam Onyishi, has been recognized with the 2022 Man of the Year award by influential Nigerian magazine, Top10 Magazine.

Top10 Magazine recently held its 2022 Annual Man of the Year/Excellence Awards with notable personalities, industry leaders, and policy influencers, as well as organizations that have contributed to the growth and development of their chosen career path and the economy at large.

The paper rewarded their unflinching roles and the impact they have had throughout the year.

The award ceremony took place on Saturday, December 10 at the Sheraton hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

Dr. Sam Onyishi was given the 2022 Man of the Year Award because of the revolutionary touch he adds to every industry he enters, beginning with transportation.

He is currently extending his Midas touch to the education sector with the establishment of Sam Maduka University and the Maduka University College, Ekwegbe, Enugu State.

While the college arm of the university has commenced operations, the university is billed to commence operations by next year, subject to final approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The institutions are expected to tackle the problem of unemployment by training and producing graduates with an orientation toward self-reliance and job creation.

While receiving the award from the chairman of the occasion, Dr Sam Onyishi shared his life story with the audience gathered in the hall, starting with the story of how his mother gave him 1200 naira in 1985, which was the capital, and the mustard seed that gave birth to what is known as Peace Mass Transit, the largest transportation company in Nigeria with over 4,000 employees with interests in different sectors of the company.

The Man of the Year recipient also shared with the audience, which was on its feet clapping for the businessman at this point, what wealth means to him.

According to the billionaire businessman, wealth for him means his relationship with his wife Ify, with whom he has not had any issues since over 30 years that they married till date.

Nigeria’s most celebrated female medical doctor and the doyen of paediatrics, Prof Ifeoma Egbuonu has received the College Gold Medal Award in Accra, Ghana for her numerous impact towards the development of the medical profession in West Africa, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

The College Gold Medal Award is the highest merit award by The West African College of Physicians. She was presented the award of the college by the Ghanaian president, His Excellency, Nana Akufo-Addo at the recently concluded 46th Annual Congress of the West African College of Physicians held at Cedi Conference Center, University of Ghana, Legon, Accra, Ghana.

The annual congress, a 3 day meeting was held under the theme ‘Health and Well-Being Amidst a Prolonged Pandemic-Implications for Physicians and Patients’.

Prof Egbuonu, a former consultant of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Funds (UNICEF) as well as the World Health Organization (WHO) is the first female president of West African College of Physicians since the inception of the College in 1976. She is also the first Nigerian woman inducted as one of the 82 Foundation Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine.

Prof Ifeoma Egbuonu is the daughter of one of Nigeria’s foremost female politicians, late Chief Mrs Janet Mokelu OON. She is a consultant paediatrician who ed Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 1993 and rose to the rank of a Professor in 2005. She has contributed immensely to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in Africa.

The West African College of Physicians is the fraternity that sets the standard on how Medicine is practiced and the lead Agency for the training of specialists in the sub-region.

Friends and ers have drawn our attention to a fake news to the effect that Dr Tony Nwoye, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The fake news came with shock given that Dr Nwoye has never in the course of his professions as a medical doctor, business man, student activist and politician ever been invited or had any dealings with the EFCC. That is because he has never been involved with any financial or economic crime.

Our constituents know where this is coming from, the very woman who has sought to spread mud on Dr Nwoye on of his grassroots appeal and popularity.

Ndi Anambra and indeed, the electorate in Anambra North know that there is one person who has been facing trial and running from party to party to escape her date with the law.

Senator Stella Oduah has her date with the courts on February 13, 2023, and shortly after she has her date with Ndi Anambra North.

We advise her to robustly acquit herself of the 25 counts she is facing for alleged financial crimes amounting to N7.9 billion and also at the same time acquit herself of what she has done over nearly eight years representing Anambra North.

All is set for the 11th Zik Lecture Series themed: Nigeria in the Throes of Insecurity Towards 2023: Any Panacea?

The lecture series initiative was conceived in 2006 by distinguished Senator Dr Ben Ndi Obi CON, FNIPR to immortalize the good works of Nigeria’s foremost nationalist, statesman and pan-Africanist, the inimitable, Rt. Hon, His Excellency, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, First President, and first Indigenous Governor-General of Nigeria.

The overarching goal of the Lecture series is to serve as a catalyst for stimulating Intellectual engagement on critical issues confronting Nigeria, Africa, the black man and humanity as a way of keeping Zik’s values and contributions to national and African development, permanently ingrained in our memories.

The guest lecturer for the 11th lecture is a foremost constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Chief (DR) Mike Ozekhome, SAN, CON, OFR under the chairmanship of His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa , CON, Executive Governor of Delta state.
