The Nigeria Police Force on Monday made a U-turn on its earlier warning to voters to stay away from polling centres after exercising their civic duty on days of elections. The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, had on Thursday said there was no need for voters to stay back after casting their votes because two or three policemen would be stationed at every polling unit to guard their votes. “Cast your votes and go and cool down. If you remain there, there is a likelihood that you will commit an offence,’’ he had said. But the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and others faulted the warning, saying there was no aspect of the electoral law that prohibited voters from stay behind to monitor ballot counting. “As many of the voters may wish to remain to see the actual counting of the votes after voting has ended,” Jega had stated. However, the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, said that people could stay behind as long as they maintained the peace, and obeyed the electoral guidelines. “Anybody who commits any offence against the Electoral Act would be dealt with in line with the law. Voters are free to stay behind if they chose to,” Ojukwu stated. Credit:www.punchng.com/news/police-make-a-u-turn-say-voters-can-protect-votes/ |

LAGOS — Christopher Ezekiel, who is currently being investigated by the Lagos State Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba over the death of his facebook lover, Adekemi Faboro, has revealed how she died. Recounting the incident that led to the victim’s death, the father of two said this was actually the second time he was visiting her house in Lagos. He said: “I met her online sometime between September and October 2014 on facebook and we began to chat. Early this year she came to Sagamu to visit me and she spent two days with me. She actually came on Friday and went back to Lagos on Saturday. “I have an apartment where I work in Sagamu but my wife and children live in another apartment in Ibadan. I came to see her in Lagos around first week of March where I spent the weekend with her. This was the second time I visited her. “On that fateful evening, we went out, spent quality time together and later retired to her apartment and slept. ‘’At about midnight, she began to complain about headache and then she started coughing. She coughed for a long while. It was when the coughing persisted that I had to go and knock on her next neighbours’ door to help me locate a nearby hospital, since I am not familiar with Lagos terrain. “So with the help of her neighbours, we went to a nearby private hospital (names withheld). After examining her condition, she was referred to the general hospital. At this time, her condition was getting worse, yet I did all I could to get her to the hospital. “With the assistance of her neighbours, we made it to Ifako General Hospital in Ogba. By the time they began to attend to her, she had ed on. I am not in any way responsible for her death.” Ezekiel was arrested over the death of his facebook lover, Adekemi, who died during his visit to her apartment at 5, Folorunsho Street, off Ajayi Road, Ogba. It was learned that the suspect’s wife who works with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in Ibadan, was at the State Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, last Wednesday to see her husband. Confirming the incident, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said autopsy would soon be conducted to determine the actual cause of the victim’s death as investigation continues. source: www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/how-my-facebook-lover-died-suspect/ 2 Likes |

AISHAT Buhari, wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has told President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience, not to have the fear of going to jail if Buhari emerged winner in the forthcoming March 28 presidential poll. The APC presidential candidate’s wife, who said the country had long suffered bad governance, said her husband would not have time to witchhunt anybody. Aishat, who spoke on Thursday in Benin, the Edo State capital, where she interacted with women in the state, was reacting to statements credited to Patience that Buhari would jail women if elected as President. “For those that are campaigning, saying that he (Buhari) is coming to jail Nigerians, I don’t know what their fear is. “But they shouldn’t be afraid because we are all yearning for change. “The insecurity in the country, the very poor healthcare system, lack of education and other basic necessities that people are lacking, I believe Nigerians need somebody like General Muhammadu Buhari now. “Already, they have painted him black, using religion. “I’m happy today that Nigerians realise that they use religion as a cover to loot Nigeria,” Aishat said. She added, “In each zone of the country, we have peculiar problems; our problems differ. For me, in this zone, girl-child trafficking should be considered (as) one of our problems, though I know that there is unemployment. Unemployment is a major factor that contributes to brain-drain and also the girl-child trafficking. “Buhari is a leader. He was a leader; he led Nigeria some decades ago and he is coming back now to sanitise the system.” While urging women to uphold and not sell their Permanent Voter Cards but to use them to vote for a new Nigeria, she however assured the people that her husband’s istration would uphold the development of the girl-child, if elected. “I am here today to say that when my husband is elected into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, all these are going to be history. The insecurity, girl-child trafficking, suffering of the widows in the South-East will; all of them will come to an end.” There must be a cultural design to accommodate the widows; a design that will make the girl-child to be comfortable wherever she is in this country. “The collection of PVCs is also important. Don’t ever sell it; it is like selling your future again. When you sell it for N5, 000, you won’t see N5, 000 till after four years, which is too bad for you. Get your PVC, vote for the APC. Vote for freedom, good education, good healthcare, good road and all the basic necessities should be given to you. Thank you, so much for waiting in the sun for hours to see me; I love you all,” Mrs. Buhari said. Also speaking, Governor Oshiomhole stressed that the party desired to deliver quality development and achieve success in the various sectors of the country, especially in the area education and job creation, as it had done in the state. He noted that the party was known for “workable projects” rather than “symbolic projects.”[i]AISHAT Buhari, wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Microsoft Nigeria on Wednesday announced July 14, 2015 as the expiry date for its Windows Server 2003 Operating System, which powers over 35 million payment cards, popularly known as Automated Teller Machine cards, currently in circulation in the country. The development puts the over 35 million cards issued by Deposit Money Banks in the country at risk of hacking by Internet fraudsters. The Managing Director and Country Manager, Microsoft Nigeria, Mr. Kabelo Makwane, who stated this at a press conference on Wednesday announcing the company’s end-of- for the WS 2003 operating system, which has been in existence for 12 years, however, said the American company was already in discussion with Nigerian banks and other organisations using the OS over the development. According to him, talks are also on with payment card companies like Visa and MasterCard, which own the cards. “We will formally end for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 on July 14, 2015. We will no longer provide security updates, technical updates and patches for the Windows Server 2003,” Makwane said. The Group Director, Microsoft Cloud and Enterprise Business, Microsoft Nigeria, Mr. Yomi Alarape, said the company was already advising Nigerian banks and discussions were currently ongoing on how the lenders would migrate to the Windows 2012 or Microsoft Cloud platform within the shortest possible time. Alarape, who stressed that Microsoft would not postpone the July 14 expiry date, noted that the WS 2003 operating system had exceeded its five-year normal product life cycle and an extended life cycle of five years. He pointed out that the operating system had been around for 12 years, exceeding the normal 10-year life cycle. According to the expert, it is expedient for Nigerian banks and other affected organisations, including government agencies, to migrate as soon as possible because it takes an average of 60 to 150 days for moderately large organisation to migrate from the WS 2003 to the latest operating systems. “Just last year, 20 critical security updates were released by Microsoft for s of the WS 2003 operating system. There is no safe haven for Window Server 2003. There is no way we can escape the challenges. The best thing is to migrate as soon as possible,” Alarape added. Apart from the risks of being hit by hackers, the expert said banks that failed to migrate before the July 14 date ran the risk of being fined by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, the global body that regulates banks and other companies that deal with payment cards. He said, “Banks that deal with payment cards issued by Visa and MasterCard may not be compliant with the Pillar 6.2 of the PCIDSS. Also, in of competiveness, they may not be able to progress much. “This actually provides opportunity for the banks and other companies using WS 2003 to have a rethink about the way they are doing their business because it bothers on compliance, security, costs, competiveness and other issues.” The Chief Technology Officer, Microsoft Nigeria, Mr. Olayinka Oni, said the company would engage with the Central bank of Nigeria and the banks in order to facilitate discussions that would help the banks to comply ahead of the July 14 deadline. He said meetings were also going on to help governmental organisations using WS 2003 to comply with the deadline. “We have learnt our lessons from Window XP. Stakeholders said the industry was not well sensitised enough to its expiration last year. This time, we are taking our time to engage the high-risk areas. This is why we are engaging the stakeholders and our customers,” Oni said. Findings by correspondent revealed that none of the 20 banks in the country had migrated to the new platform barely 116 days to the expiration date. The mobile telephone number of the Chairman, Committee of E-Banking Heads, the umbrella body of heads of electronic banking and card-related issued in banks, Mr. Tunde Kuponiyi, was switched off when our correspondent put a call through to him. A text message sent to the same number did not also deliver. The Vice Chairman, CeBIH, Mr. Dele Adeyinka, said the banks were already in discussion with Microsoft and the CBN to facilitate their migration from WS 2003 before the July 14 deadline. Although the WS 2003 expiration date is close, he expressed hope that all the banks would beat the deadline. Adeyinka said banks knew the implications of non-compliance and none of them would like to take such a risk. “Banks that issue cards are PCIDSS- certified. This certification is renewed every year. Any bank that fails to migrate will risk not getting its PCIDSS certification renewed. So, no bank will want to do that,” he said. loomer:the goodluck istration is seeing to that. at least we can now boast of a number of almajiri schools in the north. The introduction of free feeding programme has also gone along way at encouraging northerners to send their wards to school. Violence is both a psychological and physical phenomenon.if people are tot au to value human life,au to sheath their swords, embrace dialogue in the face of misunderstanding they r likely to avoid using violence to settle scores. morever, the curriculum of almajiri system of islamic education as practised in the north shud be reviewed and made to suit current trends.military action wl not totally eradicate terrorism as it is more of a psychological phenomenon than it seems..The ministry of national orientation shud organize grassroot sensitization programmes on the dangers of militancy.. 1 Like 2 Shares |
