The National Working Committee of the PDP has suspended its immediate past Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. According to a statement released this afternoon, Alhaji Tukur was suspended for taking the party to court without 'exhausting the internal redress avenues'. Mr Tukur had recently dragged the party and its current chairman Adamu Mu'azu to court, asking the court to declare his resignation as the party chairman in January null and void. Find the statement after the cut... The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic (PDP) at its 395th meeting held yesterday, December 3, 2014 reviewed recent national developments as they affect the party. Among others, the NWC deliberated on the court case instituted against the National Chairman of the Party, Ahmed Adamu Mu'azu by the former National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur. The NWC reasoned that for instituting a claim and counter claim in suit FHC/ABJ /821/2014; Gurin vs PDP & 3 others without first exploring and exhausting the party's internal mechanism of redress and for attempting to stop the forthcoming National Convention to nominate the party's presidential candidate as well as regularize the position of the National Chairman and other of the National Working Committee is unacceptable. The NWC hereby suspends Dr. Bamanga Tukur and Aliyu Abuba Gurin for one month and refers them to the National Disciplinary Committee for infringing on section 58(1)(a)( b)( h)( l) of the PDP Constitution 2012( as amended) Barr. T he Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has provided rare details of what he said was the actual reason behind his long-drawn row with First Lady, Patience Jonathan, saying Mrs. Jonathan had asked that state funds be corruptly shared with her. Speaking Saturday, Mr. Amaechi said Mrs. Jonathan, an indigene of the state, became angry with him after he turned down the dubious demand. The governor spoke in Port Harcourt at the t graduation of the students of University of Ibadan and pioneer graduates of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. Recounting his role in stopping militancy in the state, the governor said the First Lady deliberately ensured militants, who had fled the state to Lagos, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, returned to fight him. “I refused to give them money in Abuja because if I do that, I won’t be able to carry out any development project or finish the road from Rumuolumeni to Rumuepirikom. “The quarrel between me and the wife of the President is because she said I should bring your money, Rivers people money and share with her,” he explained. Mr. Amaechi called on the people of the state as well as of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to ensure the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, does not manipulate and rig the 2015 general elections. Mr. Amaechi said if the PDP was allowed to rig the election and President Goodluck Jonathan, a member of the party, was voted back into office in 2015, poverty and underdevelopment would ruin the state. “Now that you are graduates, you are now eligible voters that can use your voters’ card to change society,” he said. “Ask yourselves this question that I have always asked Rivers people. What have we (Rivers people) done to President Jonathan that he has refused to bring any project to Rivers State. We had to fight them before they could do the East- West road. “I had to abuse the federal government and they abused me back before they could do the work you now see on that road,” he said. The governor alleged that Mr. Jonathan, who is from the South-South zone to which Rivers State belongs, had taken the state’s oil well from Soku to his (Jonathan) home state, Bayelsa State. He also said 41 oil wells in Etche Local Council of the state was given to Abia State. He asked, “Is the President or his wife from Abia State? Why do they want us to suffer? If President Jonathan comes back to power in 2015, Rivers State economy will crash.” Mr. Amaechi lamented the consistent shortfall in oil revenue and the negative impact it had created to frustrate innocent Nigerians and urged the graduates to question the inconsistencies of the federal government in revenue sharing between it and the states. “Graduates like you have the opportunity to ask the federal government to explain what they are doing with our money,” Mr. Amaechi advised. “Since September this year, the federal government has not been able to pay any state from the federal allocation. They said they don’t have money. This is the first time that our president is emerging as the 6th richest person in Africa.” He tasked the graduates to as eligible voters ahead of the general elections. Mr. Amaechi also blamed the failure of the Rumuolumeni Road construction project on the immediate past minister of state for education, Nyesom Wike, whom he described as incompetent. He said the state government awarded N1.5 billion for the construction of internal roads in Rumulumeni and had already given the indigenous contractor, who is also from the area, N700 million. “We said Rivers money for Rivers people because they don’t have capital. This man took the contract and gave it to a man who now wants to be governor. “This man that is being backed by Mrs. Jonathan gave N250 million to the indigenous contractor and disappeared with N450 million without constructing the road. And this is the man who wants to be governor, with billboards screaming the concept of ‘New Vision’. “What kind of vision is that for a thief? They have been thieves for too long so it cannot be new vision. The only thing that is new is that he has industrialized stealing. The former minister of state for education in a radio interview said, he ‘shedded tears’. Everyone knows there’s no word like that.” Mrs. Jonathan’s media assistant, Ayo Adewuyi, could not be reached to respond to Mrs. Jonathan’s allegations. His mobile telephone is switched off the several times saharareporters.com/2014/10/26/patience-jonathan-angry-me-because-i-refused-share-rivers-money-her-—-amaechi 1 Like 1 Share |

T he monthly “Environmental Sanitation” exercise in Ondo state turned bloody at Igbotako township in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo state on Saturday as soldiers posted to the council area shot and killed at least two people in the community. A resident in the area told SaharaReporters that Mr. Niyi Pirisola, the local government council chairman led soldiers form the Barracks in okitipupa to enforce the exercise in the community. The source gave names of the two deceased persons as; Yomi Akinyemi and Sunday Adejuwon both youths in the area who tried to resist the soldiers from seizing wares of poor women heading to the market to eke out a living. The duo died as a result of the bullet fired by the rampaging soldiers while trying to scare away residents; the source added on the telephone. Apart from the two deceased, a little girl was knocked over by a motorcycle and woman died in the melee when the council boss drove and escape a mob that had mobilized to resist the soldiers. Reports revealed that many people were badly injured as violence erupted in the community. Saharareporters gathered that the trouble first started when the council boss accosted some residents trekking to the market asking why they refused to observe the environmental sanitation exercise. The women reportedly told the chairman they needed to eke out a living and could not perpetually remain at home and die of hunger. The council boss then allegedly assaulted some youths for disrespecting him and laws of environmental compliance in the state. An argument ensued for several hours and the local government chairman zoomed off in anger only to returned back to the community in the company of armed soldiers who began indiscriminate arrest of violators of the exercise. “Mr. Niyi had to slap some guys including a motorcycle bike rider for transporting residents to the market and the process of running away, the guy on a bike knocked down a small girl which led to pandemonium. In retaliation, the youths made attempt to attack the LG boss and he immediately fled the scene in his official vehicle with the help of a policeman but while rushing to get out of the area the chairman’s vehicle knocked over another woman, a resident narrated on the phone. A member of the vigilante group in the area, Omogbemi Oyekan, told a SaharaReporters correspondent in a local language that residents refused to observe the sanitation exercise because the day fell on the community’s market day. “Today was our Market day and we have to sell our goods and eke out a living. Even people from other parts of the state and neighboring community have traveled down since Friday, slept over night till this morning (Saturday) to buy goods and farm produce from our farmers, in order for them to travel back to their destination on time. “It was surprising that the local government chairman came with soldiers and some mobile policemen to disrupt activities of the community and shoot at some of our people. Some of us are badly injured while we have rushed several persons to the hospital. “I just learned that two people have died on their way to the health center. This is saddening especially because of the neglect of this community by the present istration,” he said. Saharareporters correspondent could not reach the council chairman as his mobile phone was switched off. When ed the Spokesman of the Ondo state command of the Nigeria Police Force,Wole Ogodo, said details of the incident was still sketchy but added that Police commissioner, Isaac Eke alongside other senior officers of the command have moved into the community. He promised to get back to our correspondent when details are available.
