The All progressive congress has advised the people of osun State to brace up for austerity measures as the only way out of the economic crisis facing the state.
The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of
the APC in Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, gave this
advice in a statement made available to our
correspondent in Osogbo on Saturday, while
congratulating the labour unions and the state
government for finally resolving the salary ime.
The APC attributed the economic crisis in the country
to the alleged 16-year misrule of the Peoples
Democratic Party-led Federal Government.
He said “This will take a lot of sacrifice and belt
tightening to fix. Every citizen must be prepared to
experience one form of austerity or the other in the
meantime if we are to expeditiously overcome the
damage done by the PDP to the nation’s economy.
Something has to give way for better things to
happen.
“It is not the government that will bear the brunt
alone, the people should be prepared to share in
making sacrifices, so that we can build a future for
our children.”
The ruling party in the state blamed the PDP for the
inability of the state to pay workers for many months,
saying the opposition party orchestrated the attacks
against the government to discredit it.
He said further, “Of the number of states in the
country where this same crisis persisted, it was only
in Osun that a satanic twist was orchestrated by the
PDP to magnify the sad event. This is because
desperate politicians murderously seeking power will
stop at nothing to exploit people’s misfortune for
their selfish political ambition.”
But the opposition party has said they would not stop
criticising the alleged malistration of Governor
Rauf Aregbesola’s istration.
The Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy of the
PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, when
ed by our correspondent, said the criticisms
against Aregbesola were more severe than in other
states because the governor was the only one
involved in reckless spending with impunity.
The PDP said the ruling party’s advice was a
confirmation that Aregbesola was planning to
retrench workers and to impose heavy taxes on the
people.
He said, “Rather than prove us wrong, the APC has
just corroborated our position that it has lost focus
and cannot bring smiles to the faces of the people
but hardship.
“It is sad that a government that promised workers
good welfare packages during campaign would
withhold their salaries for nine months and when
given bailout by the FG, would fix it in a bank and
embark on series of tactics to delay payment.
“We are aware of what hardship the party is
promising the people of the state and they are heavy
taxation, retrenchment, introduction of school fees
and further delay in salary p

It is certainly not good times in the power sector.
There are complains everywhere about poor power
supply and now the investors who bought over Yola
Disco to provide power in the four states in the
Northeast has demanded for a refund from the
federal government.
Experts in the power industry see the request as
critical and could portend ill for the much trumpeted
successes of the power asset privatization executed
by the outgoing istration of President
Goodluck Jonathan.
According to the report published by Daily Trust, The
Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing
Company (IEDM), core investor in the Yola Electricity
Distribution Company has applied to the federal
government through the Bureau for Public
Enterprise, BPE, for a refund of its invested funds.
The company has invoked the force majeure clause
in the contract agreement citing the activities of the
Boko Haram militants as having collapsed its
businesses in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba
States.

There was laughter at the Sharia Court, Samaru, Gusau, Zamfara State,  during the week, when a housewife, Aisha Dannupawa, asked the court to dissolve her one-week marriage to her husband, Ali Maizinari, because she could not bear the size of his penis.

When the case came up, the woman told the court that she married her husband after her first marriage failed.

The mother of three revealed that  before she packed into her husband’s house, as the tradition demanded, she was invited into his parents house.

She told the court that “when he came, we had sex but the experience was a nightmare. Instead of enjoying the sex, it turned out to be something else because his penis was too big,” she told the court.

She also told the court that after the experience, she took some medication, which was given to her by her mother.

“I told my mother the experience but she told me to endure and that with time, I will be able to cope. She then gave me some drugs,’’ she added.

According to her, “two days later when he came to visit me, we had sex again, but the experience was too much to bear. It was then I knew that I coulld not continue with the marriage because of the size of his penis.’’

The husband, Maizinari, did not deny what his wife said. He told the court that he was willing to divorce her but that she should pay back the dowry and all that he spent on her during the courtship.

When he was asked to state the amount, Maizinari disclosed that what he expected from her was N60,000.

President of the court, Alhaji Mamman Shinkafi, told the couple to try reconciliation before the next date.
