You are free to call out the government as it pleases you. But it rather makes you insanely stupid, insulting a large number of people that are a million times better than your father.

My dear friend, tell the truth and Shame the devil.
The Iyaloja and babaloja, even in Yoruba tradition is a
feudal monarchy system that existed to subjugate, extort and exploit market women by proxy.
Just medieval feudal fckery has no place in a 21st century FREEMARKET system.

Make your simple choice: Medieval Feudalism or Modern FREEMARKET system.

Having one foot in both makes you an opportunistic freeloader.
Is collection of levies medieval or feudalistic?
Aren't we paying taxes/levies to both the federal and state?
In advanced countries, levies are being paid to local county.
It's not your faults but failure of Nigeria to practice true federalism whereby local autonomy exists.

[s]Since you're the genius here, kindly explain the role of Iyaloja and babaloja in a modern constitutional democracy, except for EXTORTION ?
By your cognitively dissonant logic, your Iyaloja and babaloja should also be overseeing Ikeja City Mall, other local Malls . In fact, they should go a bit further and oversea Customs street, venue of the Nigerian Stock exchange.
Empty Hypocrite . You claim modernity and sophistication when it suites your opportunistic whims, and then revert back to so-called tradition when it offers you an opportunity for unlimited EXTORTION.
Shame on you[s] .
Nigerian Stock Exchange grin
Dude, why are you embarrassing your parents?
NSE is a national assest, beyond state's purview.
The state government/StateHOA makes laws governing the traditional institutions, thus, empowering traditional custodians be in charge of affairs within the authority of the state.
Why do you think they are being installed and given the staff of office by the governor of a state?
If the laws empowered they take charge of all state's controlled markets, so be it.
Go back home & ask your parents if there are no chiefs in charge of market affairs in your homeland. Maybe your chiefs are just palace mannequins only useful at breaking kolanuts during palace meetings.
Ignorance is bliss.

Oh really ?
So the constitution has legalized Extortion for institutional Touts masquerading as Oyaloja and Babaloja ? shocked

Which part of Lagos State Law or municipal by-laws provide For this particular Extortion Racket ?
Dude, you're first class olodo.
Both iyaloja/babaloja are traditional chieftains appointed by the Oba and approved by state's traditional council. Traditional institutions l are empowered by extant laws to oversea domestic/local affairs as was equally recognised by the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.
Like other chiefs, they are responsible for overall welfare and ability of local markets.

Likewise, if you feel that a family or set of families have the right to reap from the sweat of other hardworking people, and you call that your culture and tradition, then live with it.
But stop trying to rationalize the forceful subjugation of unwilling victims of your EXTORTION culture.
We live , or should I say, we are pretending to live a modern democracy, where the rule of law and constitution guarantees individual liberty and freedom of assembly.
Mumu talk.
The constitution allows for states to domesticate laws as it affects them.
Go to Kano and stop Hisbah police. Rubbish!

Lol.

Same way that a Mafia Extortion Racket promises to protect their victims from crime , right ?
Nigeria can never be a nation because people like you rationalize , normalize and institutionalize criminality.

Call a spade a spade.
The Iyaloja and Babaloja is nothing but Criminal EXTORTION racket, hiding under the camouflage of tradition.
In Italy and other countries, this type of extortion system is called the mafia, and the participants are usually busted for running a criminal enterprise.
Mumu talk.
If the domestic laws in Italy are as basic as much as you claim you know, you can gently relocate your kiosks to italy and sell your wares as conveniently as you want.
As inconsequential as you are, If installing market heads is criminal to you, who then are the idiots in charge of task force in SE?

That dude is one of those who brought tribalism to nairaland. It was even rumoured back then he was FFK. Go to facebook and see how sensible Yorubas are condemning this nonsense
A tradition that preceded the existence of your forefathers can never be nonsense.
Never again, in your trashy, hollow and insignificant life, should such inanity as denigrating against Yoruba tradition slip off your slimy tongue.
The deliberate task of restricting the Lagos worms and inconsequential economic refugees within bounds, is a mission that must be accomplished. If you don't like it, bounce!

South east states cannot survive without FG monthly allocations. They contribute almost nothing to the economy. Their IGR is the lowest after the war ravaged North east states.
Therefore, it is extremely hard, asking such low IGR generating states with muddy and barren land capacity to boost their revenue base.

So, what were igboos in SE doing when the great Awo was thinking big and making these several unrivalled giant strides ahead of other Africans, the West and China?

According to history, their forefathers were in the thick forest urinating on each other and walking butt nàked. There were also reports of them licking their fingers after eating a plate of human flesh. In their report, the white men called them Primitive cannibals. Their cannibalistic instinct strikes a great amount of fears into any non native at the time. This was rife in the eastern part at a time civilization had reached the Western region several decades ahead.
While Awo was taking the world by the storm, their forefather's only achievement was the primitive thoughts of hunting a human flesh.

Okay so, stop been inferior and in denial whenever you also encounter any Lagos indigene on nairaland.

Moreover, choice of locations for buying properties varies depending on the social status and levels of the buyer.

Igbos may consider Lagos as their dream land, while the Yorubas look at the U.K., the U.S., etc. for choice of location as regards property acquisition. So it's all about levels.

I mean what's the point of me being super excited about owning a Lagos that I already know is all mine?

Yorubas (and Lagos indigenes particularly) have been aiming at beyond and aspiring to conquer the bigger world, while leaving the lifetime aspiration of buying in Lagos to the less privileged -- i.e. the Igbos. So, it's all levels.

Yorubas do this knowing fully well that the most document the Igbo man (or any non-Yoruba for that matter) gets for buying in Lagos is CofO and never Excision.

And finally, Igbos don't even feature in the first 6 richest persons in Nigeria, while the Yorubas repeatedly feature there and beyond. So, what's the fuss about?
Wetin?
You're wasting too much precious time on the dude. You have poured enough urine on his face, he's worth no more.

Go and read Land Use Act,
In section 28.
Compulsory and acquisition is recognized under the Act, the Government of Lagos State or of any State have power to revoke your righta of occupancy.

Section 29 obliges State Government to compensate you for value...but it is at discretion of the State.

You better wake up!

The best title you can get in Lagos is excision, not even CofO. No single Igbo man has ever been given excision in Lagos. It has never been done. What you get is CofO which can be revoked at the Governor's pleasure.

Lagos revoked Sir. Louis Ojukwu's CofO over several properties, what did you cowards do?

Even if they don't revoke your CofO, it expires in 99 years. All lands are vested in the Governor, he can revoke it for overriding public interest and use it to build a refuse dump. That law was promulgated by a Yoruba man called Olu. Obasanjo as far back as 1978.

We see the future and where we were 50 years ago, you can't reach there in 100 years.
Tell them, baba mi. Land use act in view.
All those houses they are building, na we still get them grin

The truth is that if any Lagos Governor buys the death trap Innoson sells, he would be compelled to buy one for himself and ride it as his official car.

Lagos State uses brand new Mercedes trucks to pack refuse and you want us to buy Innoson? Ki lon je Innoson?
Which Igbo Governor uses Innoson as his official car?
Do you the video of soldiers blasting the FG for buying Innoson vehicles for them to fight with instead of proper trucks?

Motor that is less than what we use to pack refuse in Lagos is what those flatheaded miscreants are peddling about.

We are still in the government and public service sector, we haven't moved over to the tech sector.

That one is already in place. We have Yorubas being founders of 8 out of every 10 tech companies and CTOs of the remaining 2. It is not coincidence.

A startup sourcing spare parts, testing and providing delivery and logistics would do a lot of good to our economy.

A startup delivering a combo of gala and chilled fan milk products neatly packaged for just 350 or 400Naira would cripple the economy of Ebonyi for instance. All they do there is hawk gala and fan yogo.
I look no further to this playing out pretty soon with systematic expulsion of ibos from strategic areas as all shops are now technically in the firm grip of iyaloja. We can innovate the sale of gala & fan yogo without anyone chasing after me at bus stops.
